  • Oracle 9i for Linux, disk 2, download fails

Dear Oracle, can you please split up 9i to smaller pieces say
200 Meg each. This should reduce the failure rate. Just take
the cpio.gz file and use the split(1) command like this
    split -b 200m Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz
My several attempts to download disk2 (about 700 meg) keeps
failing. I'm behind a DSL link and something between my box
and Oracle box gives up. I have downloaded Disk1 and Disk3, but
for some reason Disk2 keeps failing. Somebody is timing out or
reaching some buffer limit. Note that Disk2 is the largest.
In my case it only downloads about 400 Meg of it.
    - Server name = oracle 9i Database
    - Filename = Linux9i_Disk2.cpio.gz
    - Date/Time = Sat, Feb 02 2002
    - Browser + Version = Netscape 4.7
    - O/S + Version = Linux RedHat 7.2
    - Error Msg = Installation fails, connection drops

  • I have two Arch Linux computers -- Avoid downloading everything twice?

Hello, I have two Arch Linux computers. A media center type computer, and a general work station. They are both x86-64.
Arch Linux is pretty intensive on bandwidth. Even though my two computers don't have exactly the same packages, they have a lot in common. What's the best set up so that I don't download these common packages twice when upgrading the systems?
Note: I've tried setting up a NFS mount for the package cache, but for some reason, both machines will proceed to redownload the packages and not use the ones that are in the package cache.
EDIT: Actually, I forgot to configure pacman.conf to use the NFS cache on one of the machines, so I guess this would work after all. Is there a better way to do it though?

I don't really see how that's easier. Pacserve comes with a daemon and the daemon uses multicast by default, so the network configures itself.
Multiple architectures were a problem before, but Arch started including the architecture in the package name for all packages a while ago. Since then, it's fine to mix and match.
Anyway, I just wanted to clarify. If NFS is easier for you, use that.

  • Linux .tar.gz download is missing files

    Hello,
The .tar.gz installation archive download is either missing files or the installation instructions need to be corrected. When untarred, only the file "libflashplayer.so" is unpacked. Per the installation instructions, "a directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created" and it should contain a file "flashplayer-installer":
    ~/downloads$ tar -tf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
    libflashplayer.so
    ~/downloads$
I've downloaded it 3 times, so I doubt this is an instance of random corruption. Also, if libflashplayer.so is placed in the Firefox plugins directory, it causes Firefox to segfault upon loading any Flash-using web page. Investigating with strace leads me to believe this is due to missing libraries (which, I'm guessing, should be installed by the nonexistent flashplayer-installer script).
Am I missing something obvious here?

I was able to get Flash working by installing libCURL and manually installing libflashplayer.so. I would like to point out that the libCURL dependency is not mentioned in the installation instructions anywhere. Maybe the non-existant installer program is supposed to notify you if you are missing dependencies?
    Either way, something is broken.

  • Unable to read Linux downloads

I have downloaded the Linux 9.0.1 files for linux three times. I did it first to a PC using IE than did a binary ftp transfer to a linux box. gunzip wouldn't recognize them and cpio just sat for hours and did nothing.
Then I went to the linux box and downloaded them using Netscape. The exact same results. SO I did it again right clicking and saving link as. Again the same results. Any Ideas?

  • Where can I download firefox for windows whils using a linux CD?

My current version of Firefox has become corrupt. When I try to download a new version with Internet Explorer or my current version of firefox it goes to 53% unpacked and then it comes up with file corrupt. I have had the same issue before and have solved it by using a linux CD to download a windows version and it unpacks and installs great. I now cannot find a place where I can specify which version I want and it insists on using the download for Linux which is useless for me.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have downloaded it using UBUNTU Put it onto a different partician and have burnt it to a CD and installed it. Its now working perfectly.

  • Downloading java for linux

I have red hat linux v7.0. I want to download jdk1.3 for linux. There are 2 downloads for it.
    1.RedHat RPM shell script
    2.GNUZIP Tar shell script
I tried to download RedHat RPM shell script ,but it failed.
Can I use GNUZIP Tar shell script for redhat linux.

Yes, you can use the tar.gz shellscript, no problem. It's maybe even easier than the rpm.
After making the package runnable (the same with the RPM, if that was your problem: e.g. chmod 750 j2se-{version}.tar.gz.sh) and run it
(./j2se-{version}.tar.gz,sh), where you will be asked to agree to the SUN Java licence, the shell-script will create a .tar.gz in the directory. Then simply uncompress it (gunzip filename.tar.gz) and unpack it (tar xf filename.tar, you can also make uncompression and unpacking in one way, see man tar). You can unpack it directly to the right dir, or somewhere else, or in the current dir and then move it where you want it. Adding the PATH, if preffered, and it should work.
You can also take a look to
    http://www.blackdown.org
for special Linux JDK's. IBM is also providing JDK's (or j2se's as now called) for Linux, which are often benchmarked to be the fastest on Linux (e.g. the ibm-jdk-1.1.8 was mentioned the prefered one in the Readme in apache jserv and other Java - Tools).
Why does the download of the RPM failed ? Linux also has Download Manager (e.g. caitoo), or you give the URL to the JDK to wget (wget -c can continue the DL later on, if it breaks). It is known that Netscape sometimes corrupt Files, even on Win.

  • Videos can no longer be downloaded

I have been using Firefox (for Linux Desktop) to download videos for offline viewing for a long time now. I've used DownloadHelper and Flash Video Downloader addons and they've always done the job, just fine. However, after updating to Firefox 29.0 yesterday or the day before, they will no longer download videos. I've tried a few other addons (to see if maybe it was the addons themselves), but the result is the same -- I've tried it on different websites, as well, but it still doesn't work. The download will initiate, 1-6Mb will be downloaded, then it will "fail." Even with a download manager that allows you to resume paused or broken downloads, it will fail. The strange thing is, if I download a video without using any addon, it works. The issue is, in many cases it's not possible to download a video without the help of an addon. I think maybe there's something wrong with the way Firefox is handling the downloading of videos through addons. Is there a fix for this? I'm happy to provide technical information (browser configuration, etc.) if it'll help.

  • Question about Portege 2000 boot with Linux

    Hi everyone,
My Portege 2000 PIII 750MHz, 512 RAM, 20GB is simply driving me mad. I would like to try to install Linux, and have downloaded some distros to try it. The point is I am using an external CD/DVD reader, with a 16 bit pc card connector cable. Booting starts until the BIOS is involved, but when it gets to OS drivers being involved, booting hangs up, with every distro, except of course win XP, with which it installs perfectly fine.
Anybody got any suggestions on how to proceed? I really would like something lighter than WXP on my machine. Thx!

    Hi
I do not have this Portege but I know that Toshiba recovery image (WXP) contains driver for external ODD and the installation can be done without any problem.
Maybe you can find some useful tips under http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html

  • Installation error, can you run a 32 bit database on 64bit Linux?

I have Oracle Linux 64bit but downloaded the 32 bit version of 11g as the 64 bit required 4gig of Ram (which would max me out)
I have followed the pre install instructions but when I ./runInstaller I get:
./runInstaller: /home/michael/database/install/.oui: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
    Any advice appreciated :)

    Hi,
Did you fulfill all prerequisites mentioned in installation guide?
how did you transfer the software to Linux after downloading? Using FTP in binary mode?

  • Adobe acrobat for unix/linux

hello, I can't seem to find any downloadable trial adobe acrobat 3.x for unix/linux in the download page.
can anyone provide me the correct link to download it? many thanks!
also I need to convert PDF version from 1.2 to 1.4 in Linux environment. Can anyone suggest suitable product that I can use? Thanks!

There are a lot of differences going from PDF 1.2 to PDF 1.4. But
these are all extra things that MIGHT appear. Every PDF 1.2 file is a
valid PDF 1.4 file, and the idea of converting them really makes no
sense from a practical or administrative point of view. (Of course,
if you had PDF 1.4 files and th company standard was PDF 1.2 it would
    be a different story).
Adobe have some Linux software. For example, FrameMaker and the
    Distiller Server product.
