11.3 upgrade and printer policy deleting default setting

Noticed something strange since since the upgrade to 11.3 on as far as I can
tell all of our Win7x64 machines. I have our printer policies assigned to
the machines using Network (SMB / HTTP) printers. No printer is set to
default in any of the polices. When a user logs in their default setting
from the previous day is gone and no printer is set as default.
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
there is a string value 'Device' that contains the users printer that is set
to default. When the user logs off in the evening I can see this value is
there at that point. After logging in the next day the value is gone. I
then tried logging the user out of Zenworks via the tray icon, the key is
still there. Then log them back in via the tray icon and very shortly after
the key goes away. So something has changed from 11.2.4MU1 to 11.3.
Anyone else seeing something similar?

Good catch.
But when's a fix coming. I've got a client that needs the join proxy.
I can't get that without a upgrade to 11.3.
Unfortunately, they just rolled out ~700 Win7/64 machines with ZCM
delivered printers with another 1200 to go out in the next 6 weeks.
Many or these are clinical nursing stations. I simply cannot have them
losing their default printer.
Does anyone know when this, and the bundle deployment issue that was
also discovered recently, will be fixed?

Don

  • What is the default screen brightness setting and keyboard backlight brightness default setting, and how to you go back to default?

What is the default screen brightness setting and keyboard backlight default setting? I just got a new Macbook Air and fiddled a lot with it, and now just want to know how to set the brightness levels back to default. Thanks everyone!

    Hey sberman,
I maxed out the screen brightness before I clicked on "restore defaults" in system preferences> energy saver (which has to do with battery, not exactly screen brightness) to see if the screen went back to a "normal" brightness level, but it didn't. I don't think it restored the brightness to default..

  • 10.3.9 upgrade and printer problem

As a house cleaning initiative I decided th upgrade the venerable "ruby iMac" (slot-loading, CRT, circa 2000) from OS 9.0 to 10.3 because I had a spare license & full retail CD. Took a while because I had to do upgrades to do upgrades to do the upgrades needed to install 10.3, but all went surprisingly smooth and all the files I needed were easy to find (try that with a Dell...) and all is working EXCEPT I can't get the iMac to recognize the HP3390 all-in-one printer that sits on the home LAN.
Add A Printer comes up but the printer isn't displayed in the possible choices. I can see other computers on the network from the iMac so I know basic networking is working. The HP printer installer is at best b**y but runs and terminates apparently normally with no errors. I only created one Admin user in the iMac knowing that multiple user can sometimes cause problems for substandard installers.
Anyone have any hints or what to try next?
    Thanks,

On the Add-a-Printer pane, the top box is the protocol choice. Mine defaults to Appletalk, but there are six other possibilities and I have several AppleTalk printers so I don't know if that is the default.
Unless you know it is an AppleTalk-capable printer, the best choice by far is Rendezvous/Bonjour. Then wait a quarter minute and see if it can find any printers using that protocol.
hp web site says that 3990 is not enough to identify a specific product.

  • Windows 8.1 upgrade and printing problema

I recently upgraded my to windows 8 to 8.1 now when I print to my HP Officejet Pro 8600 it intermittantly leaves text out.
An example I can print a school test and it might print the some questions and some answer choices or omit the question but print the answer choices or only part of a question. It isn't consistant about what doesn't print or where it prints. My husband has windows vista and has not encountered any problems, so I'm thinking it is from the windows upgrade. Any thoughts.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi jojomulherin,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I read your post and see that since upgrading to Window 8.1 the full text document isn't printing.
I will be happy to help you.
If you haven't already, I would uninstall and reinstall the printer software which should resolve this issue.
Uninstalling HP Printer Drivers in Windows 8.
HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a Drivers. Select the operating system and click next.
Click on Driver - Product Installation Software and download the drivers. Select the Full Feature Software and Driver.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4528 Is there any way to get rid of the recent iphone upgrade and revert back to default settings? Since upgrading I have experienced nothing but problems with Siri.

Since selecting the prompt to upgrade my iphone4s, I have experienced significant problems.  The "old" Siri disappeared and the new one is slow, ineffective and unavailable much too frequently.  The faded colors on my iphone screen are also troublesome.  I wish that I could revert back to the default settings
on my iphone4s.  Has anyone else experienced the above problems?

Apple does not support downgrading to a previous iOS.
You might first try a reboot:
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.
    If it doesn't help,  try
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settiings.

  • Lenovo Thinkvantage Access Connections prevents Microsoft File and Printer Sharing

We have several Think pad laptops deployed in our company, including G41, T61, and T500 models.  We are using Numara's Track It software to inventory our workstations and laptops.  The auditing process needs to have Microsoft File and Printer Sharing turned on in order to work.  We have enabled a group policy to set this to on by default.  However, the Thinkavntage Access connections manager for the LAN connection overrides the GP and turns off the File and Printer Sharing by default.  What's worse, with it off, we can't remotely manage the machine's services or even access the registry.  We know that his is the issue, because reconfiguring the access connections manager to allow the file and printer sharing will allow all of our remote administration tools to work, insluding the inventory audit.
Does anyone know how to disable the access connection manager from running remotely?  or does anyone know how to change the settings remotely to all for the microsoft file and printer sharing to be enabled by default.  I would hate to have to visit each user individually just to turn off a setting.

Can anybody shed some light on these errors. Especially the User daemon not found error.
We are running ZCM 10.3.1. Clients are WinXP SP3, most of them having the ZCM 10.3.0 agent on them.
    Thanks!

I have three labs on the 2nd floor. Students need to be able to print to all the printers in each lab just to be flexible in case there is a printer problem. However, each lab required that its printer be the default. So yes I created two printer policies for each printer that needed to be a default printer for one of the labs. But I'm not having nearly the amount of difficulty with getting them to work.
I believe there is a setting on the printer policy that will remove all other printers except for the ones delivered from ZEN. So that might be an option for.
I was frustrated, at first, that I couldn't have more than one printer per policy at times, but my current work around is really not so bad.
I end up with 7 printer policies to handle the 4 printers in three labs. However, because they are all single printer policies, it is pretty obvious exactly what is being assigned without having to drill down into the policy itself. It makes it really simple to see what the printer setup is then for the dynamic groups we use for the labs or for an individual workstation. So it has actually grown on me quite a bit. Here is how mine are laid out for just this snippet of our environment. Most of the other labs only have one printer to deal with so this is really the only mildly complex setup.
    Lab 200 - Printer200 (default), Printer210, Printer211, Printer211color
    Lab 210 - Printer210 (default), Printer200, Printer211, Printer211color
    Lab 211 - Printer 211 (default), Printer200, Printer210, Printer211color
It is going to get a lot more complicated when we start rolling through faculty and staff, but I think I'm going to take the same approach. Every printer gets at least one printer policy object. If a printer needs to be a default printer for someone then it will get a new printer policy that is set to make it the default.
As I think through our printing environment, this approach may actually use less printer policies than setting up a printer policy with multiple printers for every situation. There will be far more re-use of the individual policies than there would be for multiple printer policies. I think at the very least it would be a wash between the two options.

  • Whats the switch on the 7990 for and what should it be set to ( default )

    Hi
Just a quick one, what is the switch for on the 7990 ? and what is the default setting? also are there any other fans that can be fitted to this card that are a bit quieter?
    Cheers karl

This is no Lightning card but a reference AMD design card. Bios 1 (default position switch pointing to backplate) is unprotected can be overclocked and modded. Bios 2 (switching towards inside) is a protected non-overclocked backup bios. It is just meant to save the card when bios 1 is corrupted.
There are no replacement silent fans. You'd need to switch to a custom aftermarket cooler but as far as I know there is none except for water cooling solutions.

  • File and print sharing with wrt54g, ver. 6

computers connected to my wrt54g, ver. 6, router (firmware ver 1.01.1) cannot see each other's shared files although they can all share the same internet connection just fine. file and print sharing has been set up on each (they were connected to a wired router before i purchased the wrt54g and they saw each other and shared files, no problem). how can i share files through this router? what went wrong?

Are you running software firewalls on any computer? Has the LAN IP network changed (e.g. it was 192.168.0.* before and now 192.168.1.*)?

  • How can I remove print margins when manually setting them to zero doesn't work?

I'm trying to print a web page that I've created with a custom paper size of 4.5x10.25 inches. I want the page to be printed right to the edge of the paper, with no margins at all.
I've been reading for a few days and the best thing I can find is to use Mac's Page Setup dialog to create a custom paper size and custom margins, which I've done and set to the default for all of my printers. (Hopefully I'm able to post links to images --> http://i.imgur.com/kVbOZLk.png). No matter what I do though I can't get the margins to go away. There's always always always a .75 inch margin when I print and when I print preview (Again, hoping I can post links to images --> http://i.imgur.com/cxlVS8o.png). Just to note: The same thing happens printing other websites and documents (i.e it is not a problem with my website).
    Things I've tried:
I've read that the margins are only visible in print preview and printing the page will remove them. This didn't work.
I've tried tricking the system by setting my margins to 0.01 inches
I've tried adjusting the website to not be exactly the size of the page (I made it smaller) and the margins were still there.
    I've set "print.print_extra_margin" to 0 in Firefox's about:config page.
    I've tried a different printer.
I've tried a co-worker's machine running a newer version of OSX.
I've made absolutely sure that my page size it set correctly.
    I'm using OSX 10.6.8 with Firefox v21.0.
The closest I can come to this is using Google Chrome, where there is a specific option for "none" in margins and the Chrome preview looks okay, but I'm not able to specify paper size unless I click "Print using system dialog" which gives me the same problems as above.
How do I remove the margins and just fit to the exact size of the page?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're all users here.
Does your Print dialog offer photo 'borderless printing' settings for various paper sizes?
Every photo printer I've ever encountered leaves some unprintable margin, unless 'borderless' and/or 'photo' media are specifically selected.
On many of the Canon inkjet color printers I've used, borderless printing is only available when one of the photo papers is selected, even when a custom size specified that is smaller than the actual paper, trying to make it 'borderless'
I stitch together and print panoramas of theatre sets for my local community theater, so I end up with an image about 4.5 inches by 11.5 inches to be printed.
Selecting a photo and opening in Preview and selecting 'Fill Entire Paper' illustrates the standard unprintable borders for my specific printer.
When I open the panoramic image in Preview, I get this print preview. (The set image is of course rotated left)
By selecting Letter and Borderless in the Paper Size dialog for my Canon MG5320 printer, I get this result.
This particular Canon printer of course does NOT actually 'know' what paper is inserted, but the ink is applied assuming that a photo paper is being used, so it will saturate a standard paper.
    Hope this helps!

  • Questions on default print quality and print order

I recently upgraded to CS 5.5, a clean install on a new Mac running 10.7. I've found two issues regarding printing from both Acrobat and InDesign:
In both programs, if I go directly to print (command-P, then hit OK without changing settings), documents will print at my printer's default setting, which is for a high-quality photo on glossy paper. (I haven't figured out yet how to change that default.) I want it to print to my faster standard quality  setting, which is generally also the "last-used" setting. I can of course go into printer settings to fix -- each time I do that, my standard setting is already set in that window -- but I have to make that move every time I print.
Previous versions of both programs (CS3) automatically went into the last-used or standard setting. How can I get that back?
Also, print order hasn't been working as it did in CS3. Documents print first-page-first in CS 5.5, unless I check "Reverse order"; in CS3, docs printed last-page-first automatically, without checking any additional box, making documents easier to collate. Also, on many documents, "Odd pages only" prints the even ones, and vice-versa.
How can I get the automatic reverse order and correct odd/even back in Indesign 5.5 and Acrobat X Pro?

    Hi Davis,
Well, if you are able to log on the BPS application (thus, a Web Interface if I'm not mistaken) then it means that some user is logged on the ABAP-side. It is either a "personal" user or a technical (common) user, that is used for anonymous access.
You will certainly be able to track down this user with the SM04 transaction.
You should be able to add a button to the BPS page. One idea would be to call an URL with an ICF service behind that will be able to process the parameters contained in this URL.
It will be this very ICF service that will call the BAPI.

  • "Permanently Delete" fail in outlook client after setting up the "Archive and Retention Policy" in Exchange 2010

In Exchange 2010 server, we have setup a policy under "Default Archive and Retention Policy" as all messages under "Inbox", "Sent Items" and "Deleted Items" will be Permanently Delete after X months.
However, one of our client found that some of the email messages was still found under his "Deleted Items". All other email messages under her outlook client (2010) were successfully deleted according to the policy.
Is there any reason for this exception?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Based on your description, you created retention policy tags for Inbox, Sent Items and Deleted Items folders. Then you linked them to the default archive and retention policy
    Default Archive and Retention Policy.
Please check if this issue affects all users.
Please create a different retention policy which is associated with these retention tags, and apply this policy to a test user to check result.

  • HT204135 My printer always defaults to "Scale = 150%" and prints oversized. I always have to set the scale back to "100%". Is there any way to change this default setting?

    Hi
My osX Lion loaded iMac always prints with a default "scale" of "150%" and consequently won't print anything on a single page. I always have to go into "Printer Settings" and change it to "100%" to print properly. Is there any way to set this up to default at "100%"?
    Thanks!

Hi,  just a note that might help.  I notice in baltwo's screen shot of the print dialog, that the Preset titled "Plain paper, best" is selected.
anderdan33316, if you have selected a preset, and that preset was created with the "Scale" set to "150%".  I suspect your issue is related to this.
    for a possible solution,
    1. in Safari, open the Print dialog (by cmd-p, or choosing "Print..." from the File menu, either way works).
      2. in the dialog, manually set the Scale to 100%
      3. in the "Presets:" pull-down menu, select "Save Current Settings as Preset..."
      4. enter a label that is meaningful to you, such as "Standard", "Basic", "Default" - it can be modified later
      5. print that page from that dialog, and the customized Preset will be one of your choices until you decide to delete it.
    hope this helps,
