11.5.10.2 database on OEL 6 x86_64  (2node RAC)

Hello,
we are preparing our new consolidated database environment (6 databases). It is 2 node 11G R2 RAC on Oracle Linux 6 64bit virtualized on Oracle VM.
Currently we are running split/mixed cofiguration 2 node 10.2.0.2 RAC on HP-UX and 2 node applications on RHEL 4.
We want to migrate the database to 11.2.0.3 RAC using export/import.
The problem is: Oracle Linux 6 is not certified as database operating system for 11.5.10.2 release ...
Oracle Linux end of support is 2017Q1 for OEL5 and 2021Q1 for OEL6.
Upgrage from 11i to R12 should take place in 2013, OEL6 is certified as database OS for R12.
What are your opinions?
Build OEL6 or OEL5 database environment ...
The only thing that can cause problems is running autoconfig scripts on database tier.
Regards
Karel

But you cannot upgrade OEL5 to OEL6 without reinstall.
It takes some resources ( time and money) to migrate all the databases (wa have 6 production RAC databases). When we use OEL6 in virtual environment we do not need to migrate or reinstall until 2021Q1.
When we use OEL5, at 2017Q1 we need to reinstall OS ( and database software) and migrate all databases ( and reconfigure all applications) to be supported.
I've raised SR with question certified vs. supported, in case of negative answer the only way seems to be the OEL5 way.
Thank you and Regards
Karel

  • Are multiple PHYSICAL databases supported in one Oracle 10g RAC environment

    Hi alls,
as of  Metalink 220970.1 Oracle RAC is also supporting different databases in one cluster installation. RAC handles any resource as a service and it doesn't matter if these services belongs to only one or to different databases. You install the Oracle Clusterware only once and you create any service you want to make high available.
So is technically possible to install multiple databases on same Oracle Rac environment.
My doubts are related to  SAP , does SAP certify such environments ?? we could have  one SAP R/3 database  and SAP BW database co-exist in a single Oracle RAC environment. or also co-exist SAP database with a non-SAP database (an already existing application) in the same Oracle Rac environment.
Any comment would be higly appreciated.
    Silvio Brandani

We have ECC, BI, PI and Portal running on same Oracle RAC environment.  We have one RAC for QA systems and one for PRD systems. We are not running any SAP applications along with Non-SAP applications on RAC.  Keeping SAP and non-SAP apps separate would be a way to go.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Database creation scripts from a running RAC

    Hi all
We have a two node Oracle 10g R2 RAC running on SLES 10 SP2 Itanium systems.
We have 4 database instances running on the two nodes.
I need to create database creation scripts for one of the databases. eg. the script should contain all current configuration of the database (i.e i dont want the script which would have been created at the time of creation of the database)
    Is this possible to achieve?

Did you run any subsequent installation attempts? You need to find the error that applies to the initial problem. If you are not experienced in installing Oracle it might be the best to delete the installation, review the installation instructions, and try the installation again. It seems to me that you failed in performing some of the pre-installation instructions, i.e. defining $ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
You can find installation instructions for your Linux installation at:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
If you follow the post installations carefully it will work. Perhaps this time, make a note of the error when they occur.
If you need help to manually uninstall Oracle, the following should help you:

  • How to uninstall/remove 11g database on (OEL)Oracle Enterprise Linux 6?

    Hi there,
I was facing problem during 11g installation & i'm trying to reinstall 11g database again, but at step8 of 13, it show the error [INS-32021] Insufficient disk space on this volume for the selected Oracle home. i guess because of the previous database files still exist, anyone can give some links or solution ?

I'm running both 11g as well as 10g on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 Update 1 without any problem.
Yes I know that it isn't supported but it works.
    To your question:
    a. is it the ORACLE_HOME it complains about or is it temp? Very often temp fills up during an installation and is not freed after the installation ends.
    b. for a cleanup of the existing installation you should remove OraInventory and the files in /etc (like oratab, oraInst.loc).
BTW: I have my own blog (streetkiter.wordpress.com) where I wrote a post how to install 11g and 10g (!) RAC on Oracle Linux 6.

how do I add second database in ASM with exist database?
Do I need to created new ASM insatnce?
how to create two new diskgroup? is it under existing ASM instance or new ASM instance?
how to reset ASM properity to support ( or new) ASM instance and two database?
Do I need to configure AMS again after added more space into ASM?
I could not find ducument that add seconf database into ASM in RAC system.
I want add second database by dbca. any experience for add second database in ASM RAC ?
    Thanks for help!
    JIm

Hi... I'm in the same situation.
I need to add a new second database on a RAC installation based on already available ASM instance.
    I'm using 11gR2.
I read your suggested documentation. Then I typed asmca and analyzed my asm configuration:
As you can see I have a DISK GROUP NAME with several FREE space.
If I select Volumes tab the following is my current configuration:
Selecting Create button, I can insert some values as you can see:
    First question:
Is this the right way to create space for a new database ? Consider that running dbca.. no DISK GROUP NAME is available.
    Second question:
When I created my first database on this DISK GROUP NAME no volumes were created. Why now I have to do it ? Is this necessary to really separate datafiles coming from different databases ?

    Hi,
You have to follow some order for starting services in RAC database.
Check the below steps can help you:
    The ORDER IS AS FOLLOWS
    For Starting things:
    Step 1 Start Clusterware
    Note
When any host in the cluster boots,Clusterware should be started.
The scripts listed below help make this happen:
    /etc/inittab
    /etc/rc5.d/S96init.crs
    /etc/init.d/init.crs
    /etc/init.d/init.crsd
    /etc/init.d/init.cssd
    /etc/init.d/init.evmd
Be aware of this for 2 reasons:
    1. It may be unneccesary for you to start Clusterware. It might already be started.
    2. The script, /etc/init.d/init.crs, can be used to start Clusterware if you want to use it.
To start Clusterware manually, maybe use this script instead of init.crs:
To start Clusterware manually, maybe use this script instead of init.crs:
    #!/bin/sh
    # Run as root
    # start
    ssh dbcl1n1 /home/app/crs/bin/crsctl start crs
    or
    $ sudo /home/app/crs/bin/crsctl start crs
    Step 2: Start nodeapps
After you start Clusterware, you may start nodeapps.
Use this script to start nodeapps:
    #! /bin/sh
    # start
    srvctl start nodeapps -n dbcl1n1
    Step 3:Start Database
After you start the nodeapps, you may start the Databases.
Use this script to start the databases:
    #! /bin/sh
    # ps
ssh dbcl1n1 ps -ef | grep dbw
    # status
    srvctl status database -d AUCD
    # start
    srvctl start database -d AUCD
Step 4:Start the application after starting the Database

when dbca ask where to store the datafiles and i choose ASM, i have to give the asm sys password which i know (can connect with sql+).

    Hello,
    i tried again - still don't work
it is dbca step 6 from 16, storage option (or something simiular - dbca lang here is german)
    the dialog looks like this
    ASM-ID-Data (Titel)
enter ASM specific SYS password (prompt)
entering the correct pwd and push OK
dbca shows a error dialog with something like: password for user SYS not valid. Enter a valid password.
    Any help?

    Try: Performance-Tab -> Snapshots
Select a start-snapshot, Select Actions: View Report, Select a end-Snapshot and generate Report.

Ideally I am looking for a solution that will allow the forms application to connect to "test" and "historical" copies of our production database separately in the same database container.

How can i create multiple databases on the same server without affecting the first created database & i want to use the both databases at a time?Yes, possible. No, invariable a a bad idea as this is not a scalable approach.
Oracle scales by adding more servers to a single physical database. This is called Oracle RAC.
You want to add more physical databases to a single server - doing the exact opposite of what Oracle offers as a scalable solution.
Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..No special steps. Run DBCA and create a new database instance. In other words, the exact same steps followed for creating the 1st database on that server.
Also make sure you fully understand WHAT you are doing and the IMPLICATIONS of that. An Oracle database is not the same as a mySQL or SQL-Server database. An Oracle Schema is a logical database - and compares to what a mySQL/SQL-Server database is.
And a single Oracle database can contain 1000s of logical databases (schemas). Each with their own dedicated storage, own security, own resource profile, etc.
    Oracle is not mySQL/SQL-Server.
    Understanding the differences is important.

  • Data Guard configuration for RAC database disappeared from Grid control

Primary Database Environment - Three node cluster
    RAC Database 10.2.0.1.0
    Linux Red Hat 4.0 2.6.9-22 64bit
    ASM 10.2.0.1.0
    Management Agent 10.2.0.2.0
Standby Database Environment - one Node database
Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.1.0 Single standby
    Linux Red Hat 4.0 2.6.9-22 64bit
    ASM 10.2.0.1.0
    Management Agent 10.2.0.2.0
Grid Control 10.2.0.1.0 - Node separate from standby and cluster environments
    Oracle 10.1.0.1.0
    Grid Control 10.2.0.1.0
    Red Hat 4.0 2.6.9-22 32bit
After adding a logical standby database through Grid Control for a RAC database, I noticed sometime later the Data Guard configuration disappeared from Grid Control. Not sure why but it is gone. I did notice that something went wrong with the standby creation but i did not get much feedback from Grid Control. The last thing I did was to view the configuration, see output below.

Here are the steps followed to add the standby database in Grid Control
    Maintenance tab
    Setup and Manage Data Guard
    Logged in as sys
    Add standby database
Create a new logical standby database
Perform a live backup of the primary database
Specify backup directory for staging area
Specify standby database name and Oracle home location
Specify file location staging area on standby node
At the end am presented with a review of the selected options and then the standby database is created
Has any body come across a similar issue?
    Thanks,

    Any resolution on this?
I just created a Logical Standby database and I'm getting the same warning (WARNING: No credentials available for target ...) when I do a 'Verify Configuration' from the Data Guard page.
Everything else seems to be working fine. Logs are being applied, etc.
I can't figure out what credentials its looking for.
