11.5.10.2 (patch 3480000) upgrade space & time needed?

I am currently working on an upgrade to 11.5.10.2 from 11.5.9 and I ran into a out of disk space issue. I have cleared up some, but I was wondering how much more is needed? The current unpacked directory for 3480000 is 18GB and I have a total of 8GB free now. I did read in the 11.5.10.2 install guide that 24GB is required but that is for a new install and does not reference this patch upgrade specifically. I know it backs up files during the patch, so the file size might be dependent of how much space you are using unless it only backs up specific files.
Also how much time does it require to run this patch? In looking for disk space requirements I have seen people reference 16 hour run times for this script, which is an issue since we remote in and the connection will time out if you don't focus on the window and move the mouse every ten minutes, otherwise you lose you connection and can't reconnect to the process that may or may not be running. (thus you can see the issue with something stopping in the middle).
Thanks for the input.

I thought maybe someone would have had an experience doing it that might know. To free up more disk space will require a major amount of shuffling files around over a very slow connection which I wanted to avoid if I could, but I didn't want to start the setup again without some idea if I had enough before I wait an hour just to find out I needed more.
This is a single server/single node setup. I am currently doing this in DEV and going through the process taking notes etc in order to reduce the downtime on PROD when I do the upgrade there. I will read the document you referenced. Thanks for your input.

  • Prerequisite confirmation for patch 3480000

    Hello All,
Following are Prerequisite for patch 3480000.
This patch requires additional prerequisite patches to have been successfully
applied to your system before it can be applied. These prerequisite patches,
as at the time that this patch was built, are listed below. Please check
Oracle Metalink to determine if any of these have been superseded
    4337683 - Minipack 11i.AD.I.2
For patch 4337683 the note is following.
Note: The most recent replacement for this patch is 5161676. If you are downloading patchset 4337683 because it is a prerequisite for another patch or patchset, you should verify whether or not 5161676 is suitable as a substitute prerequisite before downloading it.
So I am preparing for patch 3480000 so can you tell me.
    Should I go for patch 4337683 before I apply 3480000 ?
    OR
    Should I go for patch 5161676 before I apply 3480000 ?
    Reg
    Chirag Patel

Any of the patches will do the job. Patch 5161676 is the most recent patch and it contains lots of new and changed features which do not exist in patch 4337683. So, even if you apply patch 4337683, the patch 3480000, you would still need to apply patch 5161676 later.
I suggest you save time and do the following:
    - Apply patch 5161676 - 11i AD.I.5
    - Apply patch 3480000 - 11.5.10.2 Maintenance Pack
For more details about applying patch 5161676, please refer to Note: 233044.1 - About Oracle Applications DBA Minipack 11i.AD.I

  • 11.5.10.2 -12.1.1 Upgrade- American English patch driver taking long time

    Hi,
I have performed test upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1.It was successful.
The American English Upgrade patch driver had taken 20 hours time to complete.
Now i am doing a second test run by following the same steps, but now the same patch is taking long time. It is running from past 24 hours.
And still 54000 jobs to complete.
The main difference between my two test runs is
1.For first instance both database and apps are in one server. (single node)
2.For this new test instance, we have database running one server and 12.1.1 file system on another server.
Will it make any difference? How can i diagnose the issue?
The patch log is not showing any errors, but taking long time to complete.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
From m note 12.1.1 UPGRADE FROM 11.5.10.2 VERY SLOW XDOLOADER TASK HANGS [ID 1065393.1],
    after changing mv /dev/random /dev/random_bak
    ln -s /dev/urandom /dev/random
do i need to reboot the server?
After this can i continue the previous session of the patch? or start new session?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Q: I am applying patch can I open another session and run adadmin ? (Thanks to Amit Pancholia for pointing this out)
A: Yes & No (depends on stage of patching), you can run adadmin if FND_INSTALL_PROCESSES is NOT locked (in use) by adpatch session. If this table is in use by adpatch session then you can’t run adadmin at same time.

  • Patch 3480000 install - Failed worker because of GL locking

I am in the process of installing Patch 3480000 (11.5.10.2) and during the running workers fail on sql scripts under the GL schema. Checking the log they are failing because the account is locked(timed), however if I unlock it and run again it locks the account again.
All the other ones have been running as they should (I have had to reset a couple from EXPIRED(GRACE) to proceed however). Is the password saved incorrectly somewhere? If I change it does that hose things up for everything else or is there something else I can check for this?
(glxlatxd.sql & glqtposd.sql are the two failing if it matters)
    Thanks

If I drop the sequence and create it again with the higher values as they are trying to alter it to, I assume that would fix it however I also assume that it would mess up some number or something somewhere in the program which is of course bad.
I have continued to search metalink and the internet and can not find anything relating to oracle patches and that error or that error and oracle app sever in general.
I have logged an SR with Oracle but any advice that you (or anyone) have would be appreciated.

  • Patch for upgrading 10g AS from 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.1

    Hi All,
I am in process of doing 10g AS integration with 11.5.10.2.
here as per documentation i have seen that this 10g AS has to upgrade
My 10g AS version is 10.1.2.0.2
The below msg is as per Oracle Documentation
If you are running Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.0) or Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.1) Standard Edition One, then apply the Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.1 patch before applying Oracle Application Server Portal Upgrade.
I have searched a lot in metalink for patch but no luck
So please let me know the right patch to upgrade my 10g AS from 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.1
Also any supporting document for this upgrade
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Bhanu Chander.

    I have downloaded patch p5983622_10123_LINUX.zip
and first tried to upgrade infrastructure home
    but while upgrading it says
oracle universal installer has detected that your database is version 10.1.0.4.2 before you can continue you must apply a required database patch set.
But in documentation i have seen
    Supported Database Releases
The portal schema may be residing in an OracleAS Metadata Repository, or in a customer database. The database in which the portal schema resides must be one of the following supported releases:
Oracle Database 10g (10.1.0.4.2) or later
Please let me know what should i do now
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
Bhanu Chander.yes, because the Infrastructure Database needs to be upgraded. And it is listed in the documentation of the same patch set.
In the Readme file for the patch set 3 (5983622 or p5983622_10123_LINUX) as you mentioned, please see Section 5. Before you begin applying this patch set
    It reads the following:
"5.6 Applying the Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.5) Patch Set
The Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.5) patch set must be applied to all database instances (for both the Identity Management and Metadata Repository installation type and Metadata Repository only installation type) before applying OracleAS 10g Release 2 Patch Set 3. If OracleAS 10g Patch Set 2 (10.1.2.2.0) has been applied previously, then you do not have to apply the database patch."
hope that explains what you need to do. i.e, your infra DB version is 10.1.0.4.2 and needs to be upgraded to 10.1.0.5.

  • Patching and upgrading streams

We have streams set up between two sites. One site is primary and the second one would be secondary
or the standby system (without using DataGuard). When we go operational, which we haven't yet.
I am trying to determine how we would apply patches to the system. Again, if one is down for patches
the second site must be available. Can I have the two sites in different patches/upgrades ?
I would plan to do them with minimal down time. I've read where streams could push through the patch,
but have had people not recommend this as the outcome could be unpredictable.
Are there any systems out there using streams as their standby system ? How do you perform patch or
    upgrade maintenance ?
    Appreciate your comments.
    Thank you.

Streams support different patch levels as long as you don't use a feature in the lower patchset that exists in the other one. So patch at you ease and don't look at streams. I would just avoid a dctionary build between the two patche session, even if I am confident it will cope with that. Just a conservatism reflex.
