  • Repository upgrade from 8i to 10g database

We are currently upgrading from the 9i developer suite to the 10g developer suite. The repository for the designer tool resides on an 8i database and I want to migrate to a 10g database. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best do this?

    Bruce,
You could take a Complete Export of the repository on the 8i Database and then import it back into an new Repository user on the 10g Database using the RAU.
Please take care that proper Import/Export utilities are used to perform this action.

  • Upgrade Oracle 10g database 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2

I have downloaded the trial version of 10g application server and 10g oracle database from Oracle site. But when I tried installed the 10g application server which needs to connect to the 10g database, I got the following error.
Database version should be 9.2.0.7 or higher in the oracle9i database release 2 series, 10.1.0.5 or higher in the oracle database 10g release 1 series, oracle database XE (10.2.0.1), 10.2.0.2 or higher in the oracle database 10g release 2 series.
How do I upgrade to 10.2.0.2 from 10.2.0.1?
    Thanks.

Download patch set from metalink and extract patch into some directory.
Then from that directory run "Opatch install". ( You need to shutdown all database and other service while upgrading code tree)

Regards1) As Dan says - 10.2.0.5 has not been released yet. There is a place holder, but ...
    2) Each and every patch and patch set has an associated README. Ignore that at your own risk.
    3) A person installing the software should be familiar with the Installation Guide, the Upgrade Guide, and the Universal Installer and OPatch reference manuals. For 10g, these are

  • Upgrading Rulebased applications to 10g database.

    Hi
It may sound silly for you. I just wanted to know what happens upgrading my pl/sql code which is on Oracle 8i versions using Rule based optimizer to 10g database without channging it to CBO. What would be the worst thing it can happen, assuming that all fuctional features are supported in 10g that were in the code? Application doesn't work at all? Will perform very slow, in case how much slow?
    Can someone give quatifiable value?
    That would great.

Since the CBO is different in every release of Oracle, you're probably best off upgrading the database to 10g, gathering appropriate statistics on all the objects, and then testing to see which, if any, queries now take too long to run. Most of the time, you'll be able to fix those problems by adjusting the statistics that you gather. Otherwise, you may have to rewrite the query.

  • Oracle Database Upgradation 10g to 11g in HP unix

Oracle Database Upgradation 10g to 11g (standalone DB & ASM is implemented) in HP unix ?
Kindly furnish the good links and screen shot documents.

As part of the upgrade, you might research how new Oracle 11g features can help your system run better.
Your upgraded system can effectively start using extended statistics, a very powerful new 11g feature, immediately after the upgrade. I have a detailed blog post on how to do this with OEM - http://iiotzov.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/get-the-max-of-oracle-11gr2-right-from-the-start-create-relevant-extended-statistics-as-a-part-of-the-upgrade

  • Not able to connect to APPS schema in 10g database after upgradation

We have upgraded our database from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.1(E-Business suite database). We have upgraded our database using dbua and it was succesful(No invalid objects are there in the databe). Now we are trying to connect using apps username but it is not recognising the username. How do we link the old database schema with new database?

    Hi,
Could you please elaborate "You should make sure that all referenced in the context files point to the new ORACLE_HOME and that AutoConfig complete successfully".This is covered in the same upgrade document (See "Step 26. Implement and run AutoConfig" for details).
I think you are referring the context file to xml file which contains parameters like "s_dbdomain". I think mistake lies at this point. Not only this variable, I am referring to any variable which points to the old 9i ORACLE_HOME. But, again this makes no sense if you cannot find the APPS schema in the upgraded database!

  • Upgrade 10g during database copy

    Hi all,
As we have 12 Oracle SAP database to migrate from Oracle 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.0 at the same time, we have to deal with time constraints.
Note 932722 describe how to migrate during a database copy on a Windows platform.
    We have AIX 5.L systems.
Can we apply the principles described in this note to our environment ? (with translations regarding drive letters ...).
Can we use a hot backup copy restored and migrated on the fly ? (in this cas, the recover command would be issued before the migrate call, mean just before the remotebua.pl script call).
Thank you for advise, as it functionally works, but might not be supported.

    Hello Eric,
yes it is possible.... the following is a rough step-by-step guide:
    1) Make online backup
    2) Restore the online backup to your new server
    3) Shutdown your productive environment
    4) Copy the needed archive logs, the corresponding online redologs and the controlfiles to the new server
4.1) If the pathes will not change peform a complete recovery
4.2) If the pathes will change, recreate the controlfiles and perform a complete recovery
    5) Upgrade the database on the new sever

  • Reports 6i against 10g database

    Hi,
We are upgrading our database from 9i to 10g. We are running our reports (6i) against 10g database in the batch mode. For some of our reports we are getting the following error:
REP-0736: There exist uncompiled program unit(s).
    REP-1247: Report contains uncompiled PL/SQL.
When report is opened in ReportBuilder it needs to be recompiled against 10g and then it runs fine.
Please advise how to solve this problem.

This is not because of the database is changed. Some of the packages/program units compilation dates might have changed and hence reports wants it to be recompiled.

I have gone through the 10.2.0.3 pre instalaltion tasks....Do we again need to run the DBUA from 10g Oracle Home....
    Please suggest

You can use one of the following for upgrading an Oracle Database 10g release 10.2.0.x to Oracle Database 10g release 10.2.0.3:
    - Upgrading a Release 10.2 Database using Oracle Database Upgrade Assistant (Run dbua)
    - Manually Upgrading a Release 10.2 Database (Run catupgrd.sql)

    Hi,
Did you try to clear the Jinitiator Cache.
some times you have to accept the digital security and it hides behind. So please minimize all the windows and see if there is any other message.
Before opening form, If you open java console and press 5, it will show you the exact error message.

  • BLOB insertion in Oracle 10g database using ojdbc14 (10g drivers)

    Hello!
I have a situation where I am trying to insert a blob data into oracle 10g database using oracle thin
10g drivers, <b>ojdbc14.jar</b> in <b>weblogic 8.1 sp2</b>. I have the following error happening very intermittently.
    <u><b>java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state.</b></u>
And this is leading to the <u><b>"No more data to read from socket"</b></u> error when I am trying to
insert the BLOB into the database. I have gone through the bug list of SP2 and have realised there is the
    following issue fixed in SP3.
    <b>CR124933</b>
<b>An Oracle BLOB sometimes used a pooled connection after the connection pool determined that
the connection was available for reassignment.
Code was added to ensure the BLOB is completely processed before closing the pool connection or
    ending the transaction.</b>
I believe the problem arises when we try to insert BLOB into database using a refreshed connection
from the pool.We have upgraded weblogic 8.1 from SP2 to SP4 service pack inorder to come over the above problem.
But this still continues to behave intermittently.
We put ojdbc14.jar in our classpath and Weblogic startup classpath looks like the following :-
    WLS_CLASSPATH=${WLS_DOMAIN_DIR}/appslib/server.jar:$PRE_CLASSPATH:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/weblogic.jar:

    ${WLS_CUSTLIB_DIR}:${WLS_BIN_DIR}:$POST_CLASSPATH
    export WLS_CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=${WLS_CLASSPATH}:${APP_CLASSPATH}
    export CLASSPATH
After upgrade to SP4, there are new ojdbc14_g.jar(debug jar) and orai18n.jar jars in the ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/ext/jdbc/oracle/10g directory added.
Please let me know if I need to update classpath with the new 10g jars in the ext/lib directory or any suggestions
