11.5.9 and Discoverer 10g

Our 11.5.9 E-Bis is on two nodes: Forms/Web are on W2000, and "everything else" is on HPUX. We are in the process of moving the Forms/Web to W2003, and upgrading Disco from 4i to 10G. We want to do it as follows: 1) move the E-Business to the new W2003 node. 2) Setup a separate AS10G for the Disco 10G. on that same W2003 node.
My question: Will W2003 handle the multiple oracle homes? So there will be an oracle home for the E-Bis, and oracle homes for the AS10G (the infrastructure instance and the Disco10g). Or, should we have two W2003 nodes - one for E-Bis, and one for the AS10G Disco stuff?
Thanks.

It might work, but you are better off keeping them on separate machines in case the AS10G install starts to break autoconfig on the Apps side.
AutoConfig is exiting with Status 2 on DB-Tier

You would be much better off having the Apps tier on Linux. My biggest complaints about windows are you have to shutdown all services to patch, and you cannot run adconfig from a RDP or Terminal Services session, you have to be directly on the console. This is hard to do if your console is a blade and you do not have machine room access. Also, AS10g (10.1.2 and 10.1.3) play together with EBS better on Linux where you do not have to worry about your registry getting hosed and all of a sudden find yourself unable to restart the applications processes.

  • Portal integration with E-Business and Discoverer 10g

    Hello Everyone,
We have a R12 integrated with SSO/OID. We also have a standalone Oracle BI Discoverer 10g. We want to implement Oracle Portal here. One of the requirements of this project is to have a common home page for both E-Business Suite login as well Discoverer access. Right now E-Business Suite login is seperate and Discoverer home page is seperate (because it comes from a Standalone installation)
    1) What are the benefits of having AS Portal 10g for end users ?
    2) To begin with, we would like to go with the minimum portlets.
    3) Is it possible to have a common home page for both E-Biz access and the Discoverer acess after Portal integration ?
    4) Do you have some screenshots of how things look after Portal integration
    -Thanks

  • Windows 7, Forms Runtime 6i and Discoverer 10g don't play nice together

    Hi -
I posted this under the Discoverer Forum, but it was suggested that this might be a better place.
Let's see if I can have this make sense:
We are testing 3 Oracle products on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
    1. Forms Runtime 6i
    2. Discoverer 10g version 10.1.2.3
    3. ODBC from Ora client 11
I can install everything; although I had to install Discoverer in Compatablilty Mode using XP SP2. The ODBC client requires that I change the environment varialbes and add a New Environment variable called TNS_ADMIN.
Forms 6i works and the ODBC work until I install Discoverer. After installing Discoverer, I get a TNS cannont resolve.......on the Forms Runtime.
I'm lost as to how to get the Forms 6i to work. If you need any more information, please ask and I'll try to answer.
    Thanks for all your help.

OK - so I thought the original post was from May of 2011 and wrote up my entire response accordingly. Only at the very end did I see that the original post was from May of 2010. Hopefully my response will help others who are only now trying to work through this issue.
Although Developer 6i is not officially supported by Oracle on Windows 7, it can run. It is just a bit finnicky to figure out.
There are a few of other things to I'd like to mention.
#1 Because you are running on a 64-bit OS, and depending on the Oracle 6i patch level you are running on the machine (we use Patch 17), you will need to replace two DLL files in the <ORA6i_HOME_DIR>\bin folder with version from 1/2/2001 (Patch 4, I think)
    1. NN60.DLL
    2. NNB60.DLL
If you do not replce these files, you will get an "FORM ERROR FRM-41211 Integration Error: SSL failure running another product" if you try to run a report from within your forms application, or if you try to open a form in a new window. The newer versions of these files apparently had removed some 64-bit calls when 64-bit Windows XP flopped.
More information (and my original source for my solution) can be found here: http://halimdba.blogspot.com/2009/05/oracle-forms-or-reports-6i-in-windows.html
#2 Because you are running on a 64-bit OS, if you want to add the TNS_ADMIN variable to your registry, you should add it in two places. HKLM\Software\Oracle AND HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Oracle
#3 During installation, I have a batch file that performs a lot of the 6i install stuff, so I don't run in compatability mode. But what I do is open a command prompt using "Run As Administrator" then browse to the 6i installers and install from that admin environment. If you are creating packaged forms 6i applications, I would strongly suggest investing the time to figure out how to script the 6i install for you clients. It can be a pain, but it is certainly much better than having to remember a gazillion different steps and make sure that you selec the approrpiate packages every time. The certainly don't need the full 6i environment, only the runtime portions.
#4 When installing multiple versions of oracle client, we've always found it best to start with the oldest version first. Get it running and tested, then move to the next version. Test the new version, then the old, then change the old to work with the new. Rinse and repeat. Of course, this is not required and may be impossible (installing your 6i app on machines that have been running 10g for years where you don't want to have to reimage the machine), but that order is definitely helpful in determine those steps that must be taken to get all versions working at the same time.

  • Discoverer 10g and Java 7- Anyone Document Incompatibilities

    Hi All,
To provide a clearer picture to my IT steering committee, I am documenting Discoverer 10g / Java 7 incompatibilities.  As a company we are on Java 6 because of our Oracle Apps 12.1.3 implementation (we are not ready yet to make the jump to Java 7 on the apps side).
Anyways, I have done some documentation of issues associated with Java 7 and Discoverer 10g, but I wanted to know if others have done some documentation.
    Here is my short list:
-Can not enter text in the "name contains:" field associated with the "Open Workbook from Database" dialog box.
-Can not edit column headings while editing workbooks.
Any other issues people have noticed would be helpful.  I need to build a case for migrating to Discoverer 11g (which is compatible with Java 7).
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    M. Schroeder,
    Thanks for sharing your situation.
Of course, trying to use Java 6 on the Discoverer Application Server side and Java 7 on the client side with Plus does not seem/sound like the smartest thing for us to being doing.  Certainly, this is not certified.
Our intentions are to eventually migrate to OBIEE with OBIA, but a migration will be a large project and take some time.  There is hope that nothing needs to be done and everything will be okay in the interim.

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Differences between  Oracle Discoverer 10g and 11g (EBS & Desktop)

We are in the process of upgrading from Oracle Discoverer 10g testing to Oracle Discoverer 11g.
We have had several requests (from functional users) for documentation that might reflect the changes in this release level. Does anyone have relevant documentation that might help explain what has changed so that they can be better prepared.

We are in the process of going from 10 desktop to 11 plus. I do not like it as other end-users I have talked to don't either. In desktop, I could have multiple reports open at one time, move tabs from one report to another so I wouldn't have to rebuild the report again. Also, there are times I have 3 or more sessions of desktop running with multiple reports running in them. In plus, I am limited to one session and one report. That slows down productivity big time. In desktop, exporting crosstabs to excel is more user friendly than plus. For desktop, it will fill in the cells below with the data above it if it changes. In plus, it looks like a pivot table. I have read other posts on how to work around that, but not always functional. Using Dense_Rank() works sometimes depending on how the report is written. IT is researching another way but haven't heard back from the consultants. Or, I will have to modify all my excel files with formulas to do that for me. Also in desktop, I can select all and copy paste the results into excel and all data comes in. The row and column headers, page items and even the title section will paste into excel. Plus only gives you the data, no row or column headers. So I have to export it every time I need the data. I have formatted excel files that all I need to do is copy paste and data flows beautifully. As for organizing and saving reports, desktop is much better. I can save reports out on our network under different folders so I can find them faster by topic. Granted, if that directory is an open one, anyone can change/delete it. In plus, the only advantage of saving it on the database is I can sort and search for reports or users. If you make any changes in plus and then walk away from your desk, plus will shut down after a certain time period. If you didn't save it, you have to start over. Don't know if this is something IT can fix???
As we see it, plus is a step back in technology. I hope someone can change that opinion. Don't know if we are not getting the best support from whoever is working with us (Oracle or 3rd party) or we are missing something???? If so, please share.
    Thanks.

  • Tweaking defaults of Discoverer 10g (Viewer and Plus) login page

Using information gleaned from the Metalink notes referenced below, we've had our admins successfully configure our default Discoverer 10g login pages (for Viewer and Plus) with the following tweaks:
    1) Remove the "typo-prone" entry box for RESPONSIBILITY (on an Apps-Mode EUL) in favor of the subsequent drop-down LOV option to select available responsibilities
    2) Re-order CONNECT TO options to make the more frequently used APPS-MODE option first in the drop-down list, followed by the STANDARD (relational) and finally, OLAP (to be hopefully implemented at some future date)
    3) Re-label CONNECT TO options with terminology more understandable to our end-users in order to better understand choices
We would like, if possible, to further enhance the relative efficiency of the user login experience by making the APPS-MODE option the default selection upon initial entry to the page (the above-indicated re-ordering of the entries didn't appear to affect Oracle's continued default selection of the STANDARD option).
If anyone has any suggestions / tips to accomplish this, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. I should also say, that we don't possess a lot of Java Development skills and therefore would appreciate any directions provided in a "cookbook/recipe" manner similar to those provided in the Metalink documents we were able to utilize for the changes made thus far.
    Thanks in advance.

342255.1-How To Remove the "End User Layer" option Customize Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Connection Page

    Hi
I would have to suspect that the answer to the question of restricting responsibilities might well be yes.
    Here's one idea:
Because responsibilities come from FND_RESPONSBILITIES, can you write a piece of SQL that positively identifies the responsibilities that are used inside Discoverer? If you can do that, I'm wondering whether a Discoverer logon trigger might be able to set a VPD policy to only allow those responsibilities.
I don't have any time to try it otherwise I would. Is there anyone who can pick this up and run with it to see what can be made to happen?

  • Discoverer 10g and R12 error - invalid username/password

    Hi all
I have R12 and Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1 only (user and admin) on the same Windows machine.
I can connect to Discoverer as the APPS user with no problem, create EULs and workbooks, and see data.
However, I cannot connect as an Apps User. I have copied the DBC file to the Discoverer Oracle home (c:\\oracle\BIToolsHome_1).
I have not updated any opmn.xml files yet as I don't know which ones to update (if any as this is only desktop).
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Hussein, yes, I completed all the steps. Here is what I have done:
    - Install Discoverer 10.1.2 from eDelivery web site
    - Create secure folder in
    - Copy .dbc file, and name it vis.dbc all lower case.
    - Create FND_SECURE and FND_TOP system variables, populated with <ORACLE_HOME>/secure and <ORACLE_HOME> respectively. <ORACLE_HOME> is C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1.
None of the above has worked.
I have also set the s_appserverid_authentication to OFF in $INST_TOP/appl/admin/VIS_x2o12.xml and then run Autoconfig on the Apps tier, but this has also not worked.
Can you think of anything else to try?
And can you think why I can access Discoverer with SYSADMIN user?
    Thanks

  • AS 10g SE now includes Reports and Discoverer?

I've read some articles about the "new" AS that it has been "re-packaged" (licensewise) and that the BI stuff like Reports and Discoverer are included in the Std Ed. Also (in the FAQ I think) that some EE stuff has been moved "down" to SE - sounds promising! But I have not been able to verify this... Anyone out there?

I urge Oracle do the same for Discoverer.
We have been using Discoverer since 3i. This year, we had some people on 3i still and some on 4i. We went through the conversion to 4i and no one is using 3i at all now. These people are very used to how Discoverer works. They are used to using database authentication and security to workbooks.
The Infrastructure can store connection information for each user. By default, it stores connection information in cookies on the user's machine but you can configure the Infrastructure to store this data for you. The Infrastructure also stores metadata for Discoverer Portlets (Portal required).
So that is it. If you are not using Portal nor care about storing connection information in a database, then why even have the Infrastructure for Discoverer? Just like Reports and Forms, if you aren't using SSO or Portal, there is no need for the Infrastructure and Oracle should provide an installer to let you install Discoverer without having the Infrastructure sitting there.
Here is the doc on Metalink that explains what the Infrastructure does with Discoverer 9i.
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=224871.1
I also spoke with John Entenmann at ODTUG in Miami this year and asked him if Discoverer works and is supported in an install without the Infrastructure. He agreed that if you are not using Portal or SSO, you don't need the Infrastructure with Discoverer 9i.
Now Oracle needs to support Discoverer customers in the same way they are going to support Forms and Reports customers by providing a more reasonable installer that doesn't require the Infrastructure to be installed first.

  • Problem with GuardianEdge and Discoverer export

We're having problems doing XLS or SLK exports out of Discoverer Plus 10g and appears to only be happening on PCs where the GuardianEdge encryption product has been installed. In fact, we can export to a shared drive (i.e. server not protected by GuardianEdge) and the export works fine -- even from those PCs where GuardianEdge has been installed. So therefore GuardianEdge is our prime suspect at the moment.
When we try to save to our GuardianEdge protected PC, we get the message "Export Failed". You then can't do anything except exit. It appears to sever the connection to the server. You get the standard "contact the administrator" error when you try to do something (or even when you exit).
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have any ideas how to go about figuring out a resolution to this isse? Any ideas on what is going on between Discoverer and GuardianEdge?
    Thanks!

Open the report up and add a sort to the ID field, CR will sort the matching row data with the id so when exported it too will be sorted and alined properly.

  • Discoverer 10g, it returns no data

    Hi all,
I have a doubt can any one clarifies.
Currently I work migration projects from 4i to 10g discoverer reports (Upgraded 11i to R12). Previously in 4i discoverer reports many views used and data also populated. Same query in discoverer 10g, it returns no data. I can view the data after setting client org id in the toad but can’t view the data in the discoverer reports. Even I tried to register as a function for setting client org id and use in the discoverer reports but result is no rows return. Can any one suggest?

  • Discoverer 10G Plus Questions

    Hi
We're in the process of upgrading from Discoverer 4 (APPS EUL) to 10G. We're doing away with the Desktop client. Most users will be given access to Discoverer Viewer and other users will be given access to Plus. We have recently upgraded or DEV instance and there are a few "questions" (i.e. gripes) that users have come back to me with:
    1) Do all reports have to be stored on the database to allow them to be accessed by Plus or Viewer? Can only the 10G client version open files from a local hardrive or shared network drive?
    2) Can only one report be open at any given time with Plus or Viewer? In client it is possible to have 2 reports open at the same time to facilitate easier comparisons.
    3) NULL values are still showing the word "NULL" even though in Tools Options we have set it to show blank, existing reports are still using the NULL value.
I'd very much appreciate feedback on any of the 3 points above.
    Thanks.
    Paul.

    Hi paul,
Its a good idea to upgrade from 4i to 10g 4i is no more used by many and their are some issues or bugs with it.The latest version is 11g which has been released 1 week back.If not go with 10g version available.
    1) Do all reports have to be stored on the database to allow them to be accessed by Plus or Viewer? Can only the 10G client version open files from a local hardrive or shared network drive?Yes they have to stored in the database so any ened user can access them from plus or viewer.
Can only one report be open at any given time with Plus or Viewer? In client it is possible to have 2 reports open at the same time to facilitate easier comparisons.Yes,if the reports are registered as different reports and if the end user has access to both the reports thn he can open and compare it OR if both reports are in same workbook as different sheets than its easy to view or compare.
NULL values are still showing the word "NULL" even though in Tools Options we have set it to show blank, existing reports are still using the NULL value. It should show blank, might be some problem. In discoverer 10g i think you will not find this issues.
    Hope this helps you.

  • How to delete a workbook in Discoverer 10g

    Hello guys,
Does anyone know how to delete a workbook from Discoverer 10g? I created a report in Discoverer Plus as SYSADMIN and gave this to my user. My user only has access to Discoverer Viewer. He went and did a "Save As" on this report. Now when he loggs in to Viewer again, he sees two report. One created by SYSADMIN and the on he created. I want to delete the one he created. How do I go about doing this? Can I do it from Discoverer? If so, which one(Viewer or Plus)? Will I have to login as him to do this? Please advise.

    Hi,
I'm sorry for the question but you said:
You just login as the user into viewer and delete the workbookWhere do you see the option to delete from the viewer ?
To delete/ manage workbooks you need to login to either Plus or Desktop versions.
And yes you need to log in using the owner user name

  • Tables or views to be included in Discoverer 10g

    Hi,
In our test environment we have migrated to R12 and using Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.55.26). Since there is a way the security has changed I require some help.
In production we are using 11i and the same version of Discoverer. In production I could use the "_v" views or tables where there was in-built security. When a user queries in discoverer, the user would be able to view data only pertaining to his/her responsibility.
In our test environment please can someone help me for the following (R12 with Disc 10g)
Which is the "_v" views or tables or "where clause to restrict the access" to user in discoverer wherein based on the users responsibility, the data will be displayed.
    GL Balances
    GL Hearder & Details
    AR Balances
    Receipts
AR Invoice header & lines & distribution
    AP Balances
AP Invoice header & lines & distribution
    Payment Overview
    Prepayment Enquiry
Kindly note, regardless of the security setup in the R12, I would want a "_v" views or tables or "where clause" which can be used always.
If there is solution based on "_v" views or tables and a solution also based on "where clause", which would be ideal to use in terms of performance.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You can use the eTRMs to get this information.
Follow this link https://etrm.oracle.com/pls/trm11510/etrm_fndnav.ls_apps or search for eTRM in Metalink (you'll need a Metalink login to access the eTRMs).
Go to the FND tab and choose the product OTA - Learning Management. This will give a list of all the relevant tables. OTA_EVENTS and OTA_DELEGATE_BOOKINGS would be a good place to start.
    Hope this helps,
    Kim
