To find out if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:
Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
Under System, you can view the system type.

  • Move Oracle11gXE 32bit DB to Oracle11gXE 64 bit version

    Hi,
Firstly, I am not a DB Administrator. I had an issue wtih APEX installed in my Oracle11gXE 32 bit version. So, taking this as opportunity, I uninstalled this (took a backup of oraclexe folder) and installed Oracle 11gXE 64 bit version.
Now I need to restore or move the database to 64bit version.
Can someone help me on this?
    Regards
    Uma

In your new instance, get a list of the datafiles ( sqlplus system ... select name from v$datafile; ) and get a resetlogs trace backup of the controfile (alter database backup controlfile to trace resetlogs;) and shutdown the instance (conn /as sysdba; shutdown immediate). It would be better to have a controlfile trace backup from the old instance, if other tablespace(s) were added in the old instance. But lines referencing the other datafiles can simply be added into the create controlfile statement.
The trace file is created in the trace directory. It contains the steps for recreating controlfile(s). So move those datafiles out of the way, and copy your backup *dbf *data* files in place of the new instance datafiles. *Not* the controlfile, its control.dbf in an "out of the box" setup, and not the tempfile. You can put temp.dbf in place but it gets recreated anyway. But if the controlfile exists, the create controlfile... step will not succeed.
Via sqlplus get a sysdba connection and run `startup nomount` and run the command from that trace file, everything *after* the startup nomount line up to and including the database character set line, as well as the semicolon is on the following line.
Open the database with resetlogs upgrade (alter database open resetlogs upgrade;) and next run the line to add the tempfile(s), that will also be found that controlfile trace backup file. Run the catalog upgrade script, its in the rdbms/admin folder under the ORACLE_HOME folder ( @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd ) (like it says at Introduction to the Upgrade Process for Oracle Database. ) and that *should*  get all the x64 architecture bits in place. The catupgrd will take some time, and as long as it completes OK it shuts down the instance as its last step.
So one more sysdba connection and do a plain `startup;` and it *should* be all ready to go.

  • RESETLOGS 이전 BACKUP을 이용한 RECOVERY

ORACLE SERVER
    - incomplete recovery
    - using backup control file option을 사용하는 경우
    (1) Oracle version
    2. recovery
    A B C
    -----------|-----------------------|---------------------|----------
datafile과 control file의 resetlogs 수행 현재의 database
    backup
restore시킨다. online redo log와 read only datafile은 현재 것을
    그대로 둔다.
    (3) startup mount
    (4) recover database until change <resetlogs 직전의 change number>
    using backup controlfile;
RESETLOGS after incomplete recovery UNTIL CHANGE 5847568231282
    (5) shutdown (normal)
    (7) startup mount;
    (8) recover database;
    이용한 recovery도 가능하다
    (9) alter database open;
8번 STEP에서 incomplete나 using bakcup controlfile을 사용한
    (5) resetlogs로 open할 수 있도록 incomplete recovery나 using backup
    SVRMGR> startup mount
    SVRMGR> recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
    SVRMGR> alter database open resetlogs;
    (6) 이 때 background_dump_dest의 alertSID.log를 확인해 보면 아래와 같은
    message를 확인할 수 있다.
    alter database open resetlogs
    Wed Nov 3 20:04:30 1999
RESETLOGS after incomplete recovery UNTIL CHANGE 5847568231282
    restore하여야 한다.
    (11) 다음과 같이 recover한다. 이 때 change number는 7번에서 확인한
    번호를 기술한다.
    SVRMGR> startup mount;
SVRMGR> recover database until change 5847568231282 using backup
    controlfile;
    (12) shutdown (normal) 시킨다.
    (13) 9번에서 backup받아 두었던 현재의 control file을 restore시킨다.
    (14) 다음과 같이 resetlogs 이후 시점을 recovery한다. 이 때 incomplete
    recovery도 가능하다.
    SVRMGR> startup mount;
    SVRMGR> recover database;
    SVRMGR> alter database open;
    4. 결론

If you want to restore the controlfile, the database must be in the nomount stage.

  • Physical Standby Database Lags Far Behind the Primary Database scenario

    Hi,
Have anyone successfully implemented described in the Oracle Documentation following
    scenario?
For me it does not work at all.
After implementing all steps current_scn of standby database remains the same and when trying to push recovery using redo it asks for non-existing archived log which I can't restore on primary database as all backups containing that archived log already gone.
The only option is to recreate standby database from backup again.
    Best Regards,
    Alex

    I already found the reason.
    Just for your information:
Recovering a Standby database from a missing archivelog
Unfortunately documentation missed that important step of standby controlfile recreation.
To my luck I was copying the whole backup to the standby server when found this link.

  • Transferring backup

without using duplicate command in RMAN, how can I restore a RMAN backup of a PROD instance to a TEST instance, please i need the steps. when the controlfile of the TEST instance is intact.

What is the reason you do not want to use the duplicate command?
If you do not want to use the duplicate command you can RESTORE the database to a New Host using the restore command. There are steps to prevent the overwriting of target records in the recovery catalog:
    * Run RMAN in the default NOCATALOG mode when restoring the datafiles.
    * If you must use a recovery catalog because the control file is not large enough to contain all of the backups that you need to restore, then export the catalog and import it into a different schema or database and use the copied recovery catalog for the test restore. Otherwise, the catalog considers the restored database as the current target database.

    A couple thoughts:
    1. If this is just SLES (and not Open Enterprise Server (OES) then you
may want to post in the SUSE forums (https://forums.suse.com/) using the
same credentials that you used to access this site.
    2. It sounds like you have X working already since you were able to acess
the system using xRDP. Is there a reason you cannot just start the
installer from there? Alt+F2 to run things usually, I think. If you are
using Gnome, I think 'gksu' or 'gksudo' will start things as a privileged
user from the current non-root user after sufficient credentials are
entered; from the KDE side of things I use 'kdesu' all of the time for the
same thing. This avoids loading a shell, changing to root, forwarding X,
etc. as you are trying to do.
    3. Going back to your attempt, I do not see you allowing access to your X
session anywhere so that 'root' can connect with its new process. Before
you change to root, you need to instruct your current X session to allow
other users to throw things onto your desktop (usually not a good thing).
The easy way is to just run 'xhost +' from a shell, maybe before running
'su'; note that if other users are on the system they can now send shells
your way forever, and that may not be fun.
    Good luck.

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre

Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

I think 6.2 is easier, just follow read me instruction, on redhat 7.0 you must run patch to downgrade glibc from 2.2 to 2.1

Oracle 8i is not compile/link time compatible with glibc 2.2. It
requires the glibc 2.1 compatibility SDK, i386-glibc-2.1-linux.tar.gz,
to install under systems based on glibc 2.2, like RedHat 7.0.
RedHat 7.0 ships with glibc 2.2. Oracle compiles with glibc 2.1. See the problem here? The good folks at valinux.com have created a compatiblitly SDK that will "fix" Redhat so you can install Oracle 8i. Go to the following link to learn more:
http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/readme.Oracle8i - This is the instructions for installing the patch. Vijaya zi,
Are you still having problem..with this..let me know??
first of all 8.1.7 , or 8.1.6. 8.1.5 neither one of these are certified to work with linux 7.0 Redhat.
Secondly there is a work around you could try..assuming that you have set the enviroment varaible and JVM corrent..( let me know if you need help with this)
    here u go...
There is this linux gnu lib file which oracle is looking for which was there in 6.x and not in 7.0.
However if you have upgraded from 6.X linux to 7.0 then it will work..
for some reason it is looking for this glibc file.
either way the oracle message it is giving is not relavant...
it is just not going to work...unless you find a way to implement that glibc file..
I had link..which talk about the work around..

Go to the following link to learn more: http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/readme.Oracle8i -
This is the instructions for installing the patch. Return to this document at Step 4, where they tell you to "Install Oracle 8i." http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/i386-glibc-2.1-linux.tar.gz -
    This is the actual SDK.

The procedure for RedHat 7.0 is not officially approved by Oracle. If you are putting a mchine into production, I would strongly recommend sticking with RedHat 6.2 instead (and patching the security holes in it). There are other problems with RedHat 7.0 that extend beyond Oracle. Personally, I'm waiting for 7.1 before I think hard about migrating
    hope this help...
NOTE ---> ORACLE DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS METHOD.
