11.5 SR4 xMii Installation

Greetings:
I have tried setting up 11.5 xMii on Windows XP Professional. Have installed 11.5 SR1, 2, 3 & 4 patches - in that order.
After installation I am facing the following issue:
- the session variables in irpt files are not being interpreted / parsed by the Report Servlet. If I pass any variable such as , it is not getting parsed.
- Question : am I missing a step in installation? Fyi, I am using JDK 1.4.2_13. Is there any configuration change to ServletExec webapps?
Thanks in advance,
Prasanna.

Prasanna,
Installing all of the patches is not necessary, for a new install just the base 11.5 SR01 install (which includes ServletExec) followed by the latest SP (which is now SP05).
I assume you took care of the virtual scripts directory:  http://help.sap.com/saphelp_xmii115/helpdata/en/Getting_Started/InstallationGuide.htm#System_Installation_Requirements
You will get very limited results if you are not logged in (meaning localhost or when it goes right to the personalization screen and shows you 'Localhost Administrator' as the user).
Have you looked at /Lighthammer/PropertyAccessServlet?Mode=List to see what's in your session (real or default localhost one) ?
The JDK version should be fine, is this the only issue you're encountering?
Have you looked at the General logs?
Regards,
Jeremy

  • SR4.0 Installation

I have a SAP R/3 4.6 installation and I am new to SRM and I am try to install SRM 4.0 instance. Can I install the SRM WAS instance on this same 4.6 system? I am going through the guide as of now. Any inputs if this will work?
    Thanks,
    Pet

You can have more than one instance per box.
You have to make sure the hardware is capable of running two systems and you have the necessary diskspace for the additional database...
We have more than one system on our EBP 3.5 box, but we are about to upgrade to 4.0 and will be upgrading the hardware and splitting the systems off the single box.  We have issues when we try to increase the number of catalogues held on the system.
I'd personally recommend different hardware for different systems.

  • XMII version 12 installation

    Hi.
I have just started looking at xMII version 12, and have been searching around for some information. I have xMII installation guide and have been looking at Netweaver installation but......
I need to install a local, disconnected version of xMII and just need to install the basis.
I does not know anything about Netweaver. What does I need for xMII installation ?? I have been looking and trying Netweaver Rapid installer SP11, is this the right direction ??

    Hi.
Thanks for this, but my problem is a more clear link to which version / option pack / Rapid install file I need for installing AS Web ??
Does I download the dev. network or from service.sap.com -> download ?? and in the case of this, what is the exact name ??

  • XMII version 12 and NW SPS compatibility

    Hi.
I have been trying to find anything regarding xMII version 12 and compatibility with Netweaver SPS's. In the xMII installation guide it says SPS10 or later. Is this for real and can I upgrade Netweaver to the latest SPS ??
I have from Jeremy that I should use SPS10 to SPS14.
And finally, where to find the information, so I does not have to disturb all of you another time
PS. I have been via the PAM page, but it does not say anything. Installation guide (as I remember) says SPS10 or later.
    BR
    Poul.

    Poul,
    Per the installation guide:  http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000683969&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&_OBJECT=011000358700000202932007E
"SAP xMII 12.0 runs on the SAP NetWeaver Application Server (SAP NetWeaver AS)
component of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) SPS 14 or higher."
A nice thing about the PAM ( https://service.sap.com/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000002212&_EVENT=DISPLAY ) is that it has some convenient links for s/w download and the guides too.

  • Capabillities of xMII with respect to TIBCO in integrating shop floor

Can any  one tell capabilities of xMII  in comparision with TIBCO with respect to shop floor integration  and KPI generation . which is better.

First off, Like Ryan I too am bias towards xMII. Secondly I don't know that much about TIBCO, but here are some questions you ask in order to compare xMII with TIBCO:
1.) xMII is a very good data aggregate where you the customer determines what you need and how to use it. Does TIBCO have this functionality? Your applications come first in xMII, the functionality is not limited to just a set of canned KPIs, you can quickly and easily add new KPIs dependant on your needs.
2.) Shop floor connectivity is critical, Does TIBCO have the connectivity that xMII offers?
3.) xMII has great performance and is light weight. Unlike most 'Enterprise Level' application platforms, SAP xMII considers real-time to be in the order of seconds to minutes, not days or weeks. The largest overhead in an xMII installation (minus any other SAP systems) is NetWeaver.
Try to figure out you scenario, find all the business requirements you need, then check out xMII's abilities vs TIBCO. I think you'll agree that xMII can handle what ever TIBCO offers and most likely even more.
    Martin.

  • Problems with the OPC Connector for older OPC DA servers?

    Hello,
we are developing a solution involving OPC data access and want to utilize xMII as a gateway between the OPC server and our application. The xMII installation we use works fine with three different demoservers we connected, even when accessing them remotely.
When first trying to connect to our real datasource, we encountered problems. The namespace was not browsable from within the xMII Query Template editor. A taglist was given though, but the tags did not give proper results. The general log stated, that an "invalid server" was being used.
Other OPC clients which are designed for diagnostic use did not have any problems with namespace browsing or accessing the data in our server, so the problem was limited to the use of xMII. Reconfiguring the namespace of the OPC server led to data access working in xMII, but the namespace is still not browsable from within xMII.
We use a Simatic NET OPC Server, which states it fulfills OPC DA specification 1.0A and SAP xMII 11.5.1 with an OPCDatasource2_5_0_4beta Connector. The question is, if our problems could arise from our use of such an old OPC specification in the server? It is stated that the DataSource Connector works with "any OPC server", but as I understand it the actual specification is OPC DA 3.0, which would be quite a distance in versions.
Thanks in advance for any useful hints!

    Hello Martin,
thanks a lot for the answer! This is exactly the information I need to explain my senior staff members why it is not my fault.
Luckily, I found a stable state for cooperation between my components. Now I have the validation that this state must not be altered by others.
    Thanks again!

    HI,
Thanks a lot for your help Jeremy.
Right now, I'm planning to remove the xMII and J2SDK completely from the server, and then start the installation from scratch with 1.4.2_12.
Can you give me the instructions for totally removing xMII from the server. With nothing left at all.
From the Add/remove s/w, I need to remove the following:
    SAP xMII 11.5
    SAP xMII CMS 11.5
    SAP xMII Productivity Wizards
    SAP xMII Security 11.5
    ServletExec 5.0 AS

You should be able to use a "super-user" account to login into SMP.
Once you're there just look for the software download link which should be somewhere near the top of the page under the SAP Support Portal heading.
Follow the navigation tree on the left until you get the option to Search for Installations and Upgrades. Just enter SAP xMII into the search field and you should get the link for the download.
As for who to contact for info on downloading, i doubt anyone can answer that for you here. This is a public forums and personal contact details are not a common practice to be posted. You should have a contact, a sales person, etc. from SAP that could help you with this.
    Hope this helps!

  • Installation advice for xMII V12.0

    Hi all,
xMII is my first foray into the SAP experience.  We are planning a POC using xMII to build a simple MES system with communication to existing SAP ECC/ERP, various PLCs and Proficy iHistorian and printing to Zebra label printers.  We have a sandbox xMII V11.5 installed and working with ECC via RFCs/JCO.
It makes sense to use xMII V12 for the POC as we will not be going live for a year and the work we are doing now is discovery work.  We are planning a new installation as the requirement for NetWeaver changes requirements quite dramatically.
I have been looking through the mountain of documents on Wikis, document sites, and Blogs and have found Master guides, Installation Guides, Upgrade Guides, Release Notes, Config Guides, SAP Notes...  Then there is JCO, SAP JRA, UDSs of various types, Netweaver (UME, WebAS, CCMS, ...), JRE, database, Windows...  I am attempting to make a list of what needs to be installed and in what order for the POC. I have not found a definitive source of information on the installation of an xMII server.  -Does one exist?-
Here is my current list of what to install on the xMII server, in the order they must be installed.  I could use some feedback!
The server:  Dell Optiplex GX620  -  1G RAM - 2.8Ghz - 40Gb HD -Is this adequate?  More RAM? More Disk?-
    Windows Server 2003
    MS SQL Server 2005
Sun JRE 1.4.2_16  (When will this be upgraded to 1.6, or even 1.5!)
Is JAVA_HOME required?  Does it matter which JRE is in the Windows PATH environment variable?
    SAPCAR 7.0
NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) SR2  Usage Selection - Application Server Java  - and configure JRA
    xMII V12.0 SR3 - and configure users
    XMII 12.0 Migration Tool SP02  XMIIMIGRATION02_0-10004466.SCA
    JCOlibs for XMII 12.0  JCOLIBS00_0-10004406.SAR
    XMII Framework UDS SP00   XMIIFRAMEWORK_0-20001475.zip
    XMII OPC UDS SP00   XMIIOPCUDS_0-10005336.ZIP
XMII OPC HDA UDS SP00   XMIIOPCHDAUDS_0-10005335.ZIP
    XMII iHistorian3 UDS SP00  XMIIIHISTORIAN3_0-20001465.zip
    Label printing - TBD
What did I miss?  Is everything in the correct order?
    Thanks all,
    --Amy Smith
P.S.  I have been impressed by the quality of the posts on this forum.  I look forward to joining the community!

    Amy,
This is probably not what you want to hear but the guide will most likely not be updated since the JDBC driver and it's configuration is specific to the vendor and not SAP.  This is the reason for all of the various configuration fields you see in the xMII Data Server configuration screen.  It allows the xMII system to support a connection via any JDBC driver.  The MS site where you downloaded the 2005 driver from has the Server URL defined there and there are plenty of supplementary sites on configuring the URL properly for your system.  If you still think it should be added then please create a CSN/CSS message requesting the change.
To cover some previous comments on the NW installation, plan for approx 2-4 days in installing and configuring Solution Manager; if you don't already have it in your corporate landscape.  The actual installation took me 20hrs on a 2GB RAM Dual-DualCore 2 GHz CPU machine and took approx 45 GBs of space (This is now required by SAP and last I checked was free).  You'll need this because it will help you maintain/manage your various systems corporate wide.  Also it is needed to generate "Solution Manager Keys" which are required for NW installations and to download NW support package updates from Service Marketplace.
Once that's done it's about 3 hours for each successive NW AS Java installation and about 5 minutes for the xMII v12 deployment and finished off at around 5GBs of space.
This is all in the guide I am putting together along with a "High-Availability" section which is adding some extra time to it's release but I can guarantee it's worth the wait!
It's nice to see that you've done your homework on this, hope this helps to explain and clarify...

  • Mail Server Installation on xMII Server

    Hi All,
I had installed mail server on xMII Server and created a mail account there.
Inside the BLS I used localhost as server.
And username and password, I given the credentials of mail account created.
The problem is I am not able to send mails(Even I tried running it by creating an XacuteQuery). Please let me know if there is anyother setting that needs to be done from xMII side or from mail server side, so that I can send mails mentioning Server as localhost instead of stating entire IP.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi kumar

    Hi Ravi,
Do you want to send mail from xMII to your mail?
No need to give mail Account and password.Only you give  your mail server name , From and To.
Mail server name should be correct.
And other fields like subject and attachment as per your requirement.
    Thanks,
    Manisha

  • Installation of xMII into a virtual server environment

Can we deploy xMII into a Virtual Server environment?  If so, are there any downside issues we need to be aware of before considering such an option?
    Appreciate any ideas

    Jaremy,
Can you please qualify what you meant by "typically". Is there any benchmark study on performance in production that you are basing on? Otherwise, what else could be the reason you do not advise in production?
We are currently installing xMII in Dev VMWare environment. Our company is seriously advising only VMWARE for Dev and test. If you have any benchmarks, that will help.
    Thanks.
