'11 MacBook Air Freezing w/Mountain Lion

I have a 2011 MacBook Air (13", 4GB) that was rock solid with Lion for a year. However, ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've been experiencing frequent freezes/lockups.
Sometimes, my Menu bar will freeze, and I'll get the spinning beachball, then the system will completely freeze requiring me to power down.
Other times, the machine will just instantly freeze, requiring a power down.
Still, in another annoying situation, I'll close the lid on my laptop while plugged in, come back a few hours later, and the machine won't wake up. No screen activity, not even any light noticeable through the Apple logo on the back of the screen. NOTHING.
It's getting to be to the point where I don't want to use my MBA anymore and try to do as much work as possible on my iPad.
Nothing has changed software/hardware wise since the upgrade to Mountain Lion. I even tried disabling PowerNap, but that didn't work.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Can I import iWork from my Mac, which has Snow Leopard, to my MacBook Air, which has Mountain Lion?

Can I import iWork from my Mac, which has Snow Leopard, to my MacBook Air, which has Mountain Lion?
I would appreciate any advice on the intricacies of operating with Snow Leopard on my main computer and Mountain Lion on my MacBook Air.

I'm not sure there are any intricacies except you can't use iCloud to keep the two things synced. It would be mostly contacts, Safari bookmarks, Calendars, notes, etc.
Also, iCloud allows saving iWork documents in the Cloud, so you can access them on both systems. That would not be available for the old Mac.
The two OSes are similar enough that it wouldn't be too difficult to work between the two, but there will be differences in using the Finder (contextual menu changes)
I thought I would have more, but I've been off Snow Leopard for so long now, I'll leave this for someone who is currently operating like that or recently switch to Mountain Lion from SL.

  • How can I revert my Macbook Air back to Mountain Lion?

I got my Macbook Air for Christmas in 2012, so it's only a little over a year old. It came with Mountain Lion, and it's been fine, until I updated it to Mavericks. Well, it was alright for a little bit, until the past two days, it has frozen on me for absolutely no reason at all twice. I wasn't running a lot of programs or anything, my hard drive space was fine, my battery was fine, and I've taken good care of it (never spilt anything on it, dropped or banged it). When it froze, the keyboard and cursor didn't respond, it wouldn't go into sleep mode and the sound skipped. All I could do was hold the power button until it shut off. So I was doing research on it and I think the reason is Mavericks. So I backed up my important things onto a separate drive, and I did the restart with command+r and I erased the hard drive completely. But now the only option for installing is reinstalling Mavericks, which I don't want to do because I'll be brought back to square one. My brother has a disc for Snow Leopard, but apparently you shouldn't downgrade a computer to a system software older than the one it came with...does this mean I have to buy Mountain Lion now or something? I don't have any backups in Time Machine (which is stupid of me). My mom has a Macbook Pro with Lion, but I don't know if I can do anything with that (unless it came with a CD, which I don't think it did, and besides it's still an older version). Am I just stuck with Mavericks then? I wish I never upgraded...unless the freezing is related to something else?

Okay. What I could possibly try doing is reinstalling Mavericks, and now that my computer's hard drive is empty, try using it and seeing if it starts freezing again. For all I know, the cause may not be Mavericks, and maybe erasing the hard drive might have fixed it...but if that doesn't work, then I'll probably have to contact Apple or something about it, and see if going back to Mountain Lion fixes it, or if there's something else wrong with my computer.

  • Photoshop CS5 Bugs on MacBook Air Fixed in Mountain Lion

    Hey all,
I was pretty frustrated last November when I bought a new Macbook Air and experienced weird behavior in Photoshop CS5. Brushes would stop working. Tool icons would freak out. This was discussed at length on the boards, and Chris from Adobe said everyone at Adobe and Apple were aware of the issue due to video card incompatibilities (?) and Lion.
Happy to report that all that behavior has dissapeared with Photoshop CS5 running on Mountain Lion (beta v1). It works as it was meant to. Yeah!
Thought I would report back as all those threads have been locked for awhile.

Thanks to the USB hub, Now Huawei E303C Datacard is working all fine in my new MacBook Pro 13" i7 Mid 2012 model.
For experiment purpose, I purchased one USB 2.0 hub (Unknown Chinese model).
I connected Datacard to USB hub and USB hub to MacBook Pro USB port.
Hurray!! Datacard is detected by MacBook Pro.
So, the problem is with MacBook Pro's new USB ports (USB 2.0 and 3.0 integrated in a single port) and Huawei E303C Datacard.
It is a hardware support issue with Huawei E303C Datacard.
I hope this will solve your problem too.
    Enjoy

  • I have a brand new Macbook Air with latest Mountain Lion but can't install Adobe Flash Player it continually times out?

I have latest version of Mountain Lion on brand new MacBook Air but can't install Adobe Flash Player from Adobe website as it always times out with error message...?

OK...I have tried to download from:
    get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
It tells me that the Adobe Flash Player is version 11.5.502.146
    Intel based Macs
    Browser: Safari, Firefox, Opera
I click Download now (I don't have any antivirus software running or a firewall)
The screen then changes to say:
Thankyou your download will commence immediately...
Then I get a nes screen with message:
    Request Timeout
The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request.

I have also tried installing a differnt version by clicking on the "Different operating system or browser?'' and
    selecting
    Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.8
    Flash Player 11 for Mac OS X 10.6 - 10.8
The same thing then happens...Thank you. Your download will start immediately...then about 20 secs later
    Request Timeout.

That's as much as I know...

  • File sharing between MacBook OS X Snow Leopard, MacBook Air OS X Mountain Lion won't work?

I'm using two laptops - a MacBook with OS X Snow Leopard and a MacBook Air with OS X Mountain Lion. I have set File Sharing privileges on both machines. Neither is showing up as visible to the either through browsing network places or even by directly trying to connect to the computer name.local or the given IP address. We have a Belkin router but I've turned the Firewall off on it and that still didn't do the trick. Any ideas?

    Have they ever worked together?

  • Macbook sluggush / freezes after Mountain Lion

I bought my Macbook Pro 13" in late Fall of 2010.
I've read several posts on here about computers locking up after Mountain Lion upgrade.  But most of those issues involved the computer completely locking up.  In my case I get the spinning wheel of death, but the trackpad is still responsive.  I can "Force Quit" the open programs (usually) but it is very sluggish.  It boots slow and shuts down really slowly.  The sluggishness is intermitent thought and I can't put my finger on what is happening.  It reminds me of my old PC days when you would get a virus.
Can you point me in the right direction for diagnosis that I can run myself?
Or do I need to head to the Genius bar?
What has changed in my usage lately?
Essentailly the same type of usage since I purchased the machine.  Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, Chrome, Safari and Mail.
I recently "upgraded" to Mountain Lion from the app store a few days after it became available.
To my knowledge, all updates have been installed.
My Macbook has been running really hot (too hot to sit directly on your lap when wearing shots).  This happened prior to my upgrade and I took it to the Apple store and they essentially told me not to worry about it.  They ran some tests and said things looked fine.
    Thanks!

When i check on the Mac App Store, i still have to pay?
I mean it doesn't make any sense, I buy this macbook pro along with the os, and I still have to pay the OS again?
I wish they keep the CD installer just like couple years ago.
    Thanks

  • Macbook air freezes in screen save mode (Mid 2011 model using Mountain Lion

My MacBook Air freezes during screen save mode & is completely unresponsive.  The only option is to press & hold the power button to force a power down then restart the laptop.  This issue is not intermittent but happens every time the laptop is in screen save mode for any length of time (+20 mins).
The laptop is a Mid 2011 model. 1.8 GHz i7, 250 GB solid state HD, 13" display with 4 GB RAM.  I updated to Mountain Lion latest version about 1 month ago.

Hi there. I'm not using any 3rd party screen saver software, only the standard Mountain Lion supplied stuff.
I did have to get the Genuis Guys to reset my SMC as my battery, fan & power lead were showing problems.  Those issues are now solved but this has persisted.
I am considering a reinstal of the OS system but that is a 1 hour download following by ?? hours of waiting for the program to restart.
I'll try using one of the other screen saver options to test that.
    Thanks for that idea.

  • TS3742 MacBook Pro 13" with Mountain Lion Freezing at login and getting Kernel errors

Ive been working on a friends MacBook Pro 13" with mountain lion for about a week now. It is having intermittent kernal panic errors on boot up only. It is also freezing up frequently at apple logo. Disk check passed, reformatted and reinstalled os. Switched out Ram. Still happening. Can anyone help.

    Linc Davis,
I hope this is what you were requesting. I deleted out the UUID but as far as hang reports, wasn't sure what that would look like so I am sorry if that is included in this. Please let me know what you think.
Thank you for your help in this.

I have a MacBook Pro 2012 running Mountain Lion 10.7.5.  I've been trying to get the mirroring icon to show up in the bar but no dice.  Any tips?  I've gone into System Preferences -> Display and there is no option to turn on mirroring.

Welcome to the Apple Community maricespieces.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.
