1103 Apps/Unix to 1159 Apps/Linux

Current environment is 11.0.3 apps (8.0.6 db) on an HP 11.0 Unix box. Planning to migrate to 11.5.9 on Linux i86 AS 3.0, Dell servers, etc.
I've been told by different individuals (consultants, dba's, etc) that we CANNOT directly migrate from 11.0.3 to 11.5.9 and that we have to upgrade our current unix environment to 8i database BEFORE we can migrate over to Linux. As far as I know this isn't possible with our current HP hardware/configuration.
I'm pretty sure I can do a full exp/imp directly from 8.0.6 to 9.2.0. Doesn't rapidinstall offer an upgrade function that takes an existing applications database and upgrade it to the 11.5.9 settings? Since I'm migrating to a different physical machine why can't I take this approach?
I'd be interested to see what suggestions others have. Any comments/suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

It depends on how much data you have, how much customized the apps, how may modules you implemented...etc and other resources on how to transfer.
11.5.9 is in 9i version, not even 8i.
The options depend on your installation environment. Though there are many ways to achieve this, you can directly install 11.5.9 on Linux AS 3.0 with vanilla version and import required data through interface tables depending on the modules you have and switch the servers.
This is only a suggestion
Good Luck.

  • Have anyone installed 1159 on linux AS3.0

    Hi All
Have anyone ever experimented to install oracle 1159 on linux RedHat 3.0 successfully?
    Regards

Thanks Chandra & others in this forum.
I did install the 11.5.9 on RHEL 3.0
after a struggle of 12 hours.
I solved the issues, applied patches.
    It works very well.
Here is another version of solution.
The steps to create the issue,
especially unable to instantiate & unable to create control file.
    I found some workaround too.
    When I tried to install 11.5.9 on Redhat Linux Ent. 30 & AS 21 & RH9,
I find that read from config file does not work properly,
that creates "unable to instantiate file"
and "unable to create control file" issues.
    Steps to recreate the issue.
    start rapidwiz
When giving applusr and oracle user,
    the default brings applEVAL, oraEVAL
supposing your instance is EVAL (oracle_sid)
change it to applmgr and oracle
    save the config file
exit it ( do not run further )
    Next start the rapidwiz
    say read from config file
It reads the /tmp/config.txt and backs-up to /tmp/config.txt.bac
everything looks fine, but you will get
"unable to instantiate file" and "unable to create control file" errors
The reason is oracle changes some of the entries in
    /tmp/config.txt while reading it.
half way through (you can find out at the end of the file)
it changes applmgr into applEVAL and oracle into oraEVAL
Hence, the user does not exists and unable to instantiate files.
The work around is do not read from config file
start from scratch, that is the oracle way!
They are way behind Microsoft, no doubt.
I just followed step by step instructions

  • Webcam works in JMStudio but not in JMF apps (Linux)

    Hi everybody,
I have successfully installed the Linux drivers (it's a Logitech Quickcam Express), and registered the webcam with jmfregistry. It works perfectly in jmstudio, both if selecting the "capture" menu or just opening an url as "v4l://0".
However, I cannot succeed in creating a datasource for this camera in my application. I can get the MediaLocator of the device, its list of formats, but when calling to Manager.createDataSource(), a "NoDataSourceException" is thrown.
    Any hint, please?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi again,
I have also tested the JMF code samples, e.g. VideoTransmit, and I get the same problem.
It seems that only jmstudio is capable of using the camera!!!
    Help, please!

  • Differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and a Linux Platform

I want to know the differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform. And which platform is better?
    Thanks

We have installed Oracle 8i on Solaris 8 and it had a great performance, of course that the hardware and licence invested here was costed my the office where i work. Personaly i'd installed linux reh hat 8 and oracle 8i, imagine that, it could be implemented by any individual that has the time to do so.
By buyinng from a company that has a good background you could be sure that you will have support.
Bottom line, if you have the $ to buy great hardware go for a unix platform. But if you don't a Red Hat Linux Server Licence with a 1 year sopport and Oracle data base is about 3500Dls.

  • Migrate Oracle Apps Instance from one server to another

    Hi All,
We are planning on migrating our Production Oracle Apps Instance(11.5.10.2 and 9.2.0.8) on HP Tru64 UNIX OS on one server to a different server(Node name change) with the same OS. This is a single node, single OS user instance(Apps and DB on the same box). Can you please give me a brief idea on how to go about doing this?
    Thank you.
    Edited by: Ora_Apps_DBA on Jul 5, 2011 12:50 PM

Since you will be using the same OS, then you can simply use Rapid Clone to migrate the Application/Database.
Rapid Clone Documentation Resources, Release 11i and 12 [ID 799735.1]
Make sure you have all OS pre-req. software and packages installed on the target nodes before you clone the instance.

  • Single instance app with native packaging

Is there any way to allow only one instance of the app to run with javafx2 native packaging? Like an attribute in the build.xml or something?
I'm using the .exe for windows and the .dmg for mac.
    Appreciate your help.

There is no simple deployment build switch that I know of for achieving a single instance app.
A couple of ideas (none of which I have tried).
Perhaps you could use the SingleInstanceService:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/java/fxbest-1583679.html "Ensuring Only One Instance of the Application Is Started"
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/examples.html#SingleInstanceService "SingleInstanceService"
It is a jnlp api based service though and I'm not sure if such a service would be available to a packaged app (maybe it would require including the jre/lib/javaws.jar file with your app or something like that).
You could write out a lock file when the app starts.
On unix (i.e. mac/linux) the lock could include the process pid for your app. On startup, check if there is a process with the lock pid currently running, if so, don't startup and perhaps send an interrupt signal to the existing app notifying it that the user tried to start a new instance.
On windows you could read and write the lock value value from the registry.
To get rid of the OS specific stuff surrounding this, perhaps this kind of lock logic could be implemented using the Java Preferences API:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/preferences/index.html
Intellij Idea is open source and and seems to have this kind of functionality, so you could check how they do it.

  • From Unix to Linux Change (3.5)

    Hello,
What are all the activities in Detail that need to be performed to change BW 3.5 from a Unix based System to Linux?
    Thanks

I dont think there is anything you need to do from a application perspective. You need to look at normal system settings like
    Work + disp processes
    Processes availability
and things like that. Only thing that could affect BI would be authorizations to the file system and things like that to write log files etc etc, run scripts etc..
You might want to check the same in the Netweaver Administrator forum also....

  • Oracle on Unix or Linux

    Hi,
A Oracle DBA with experience on Unix, is he able to work with Oracle on Linux as well? Or is this really hard?
What is the difference between working on Unix and working on Linux?
Is it a right conclusion when I say that Oracle DB(A) is normally on Unix?
    Thanks
    Klaartje

A Oracle DBA with experience on Unix, is he able to
work with Oracle on Linux as well? Or is this really
hard? That's too hard to say: there are two types,
    2. One who follows a set path
    1. Other who forms his own path and leave a trail
    Which one is you?
What is the difference between working on Unix and
working on Linux?Just the "L". Lengthy in typing the commands, path,..............
Is it a right conclusion when I say that Oracle DB(A)
is normally on Unix? That depends on how Oracle want to identify itself.
    Earlier <= Solaris
    Now >= Linux
    Future != windows

  • Open unix domain socket (Linux)

    I
see. Well LabVIEW does not support this type of socket. The only socket
interface it has already is the one used for its TCP/UDP implementation
and that is using sockaddr_in internally to bind. As such you have two
    options:
    1) Write your own domain socket interface writing a shared library and the according interface VIs.
    2) Or use TCP/IP interprocess communication instead.
In terms of functionality TCP/IP will be the same as what you could
possibly get from domain sockets. The only reason to use domain sockets
instead of TCP/IP sockets might be that domain sockets have a
more  optimized data transfer since they do not take precautions
for remote data transfer. If you really need this (possible?) increased
performance you will have to do some work.
However domain sockets seem little known and might be a new technology.
So I would make sure it is properly supported on all the potential
system you try to use this before taking the plunge to write your own
shared library interface to call through the Call Library Node.

  • Oracle E-Business Suite 12.0.6 on Oracle Linux 5.5

My production apps (Oracle E-Business Suite 12.0.6) and db (Oracle Database 10.2.0.4.0) tiers reside on their own Redhat 4.6 servers. I have a new server that I am in the process of installing Oracle Linux 5.5 on for hosting a TEST instance - both apps and db tiers. Once the OS is installed I will clone production to it either using rapidclone or rman duplicate. Where can I learn what if any packages I need to install before cloning to my new Oracle 5.5 Linux server?

  • How move file with space in the name to another foler on Linux from ABAP?

    Hi experts,
My requirement is to move the file on Linux to another folder via ABAP program.
IN SM49 is defined ZMOVE command for "mv" operating system command. In ABAP, fm:
SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE calls ZMOVE external command to move the file to another folder.
But in case that file has space in the file name, then the fm gives error and the file can not be moved.
I have tried as given in the Note 1152084 - Parameter for external commands but it doesn't work.
Don't know if the reason is that the note is for Windows or Unix and we have Linux.
So, I have tried with ''%file name%' and '''file name'''.
PLease advice hoe to move file on Linux to another folder from ABAP program if the file has spec in the name.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Danijela Zivanovic

    Hi,
    You can also try :
    mv "file\ name" /<path_to_new_dir>
    (Put "\" before each space)

  • Error while installing Oracle 10G on Oracle Enterprise Linux 4.8 32 bit

Our machine is a x86_64 machine with 32 GB of RAM available. I have installed OEL 4.8 32 bit on this machine (configured swap space of 32 GB) and OEL by default boots with the Hugemem kernel.
I am trying to install Oracle 10G enterprise edition on this. All required kernel parameters, shell limits etc. have been verified and configured. The preinstallation checks succeed on all the tests and installation proceeds smoothly. However in the last step of configuring the database using dbca following two errors are thrown:
    1. ORA-27102 - out of memory
    2. ORA-01034 - ORACLE not found
Most places where I am reading are telling to configure kernel parameters. However that doesn't seem to be the problem in this case.
    Please Help.

    Hi;
What is exact db version? What installation log says?
Please see and confirm you have all pre-req settings

  • Oracle 9.2 installation on AIX-unix version 5.2

    Hi,
I need to install oracle 9.2 on AIX server whose OS is version 5.2 and hardware is IBM P-Series P615 . Will there be any problem in doing this activity or successfully it can be installed ?

    Hi;
Why oracle 9i? If possible use supported version like 11gR2. If you have to install oracle 9iR2, yes you can make installation on 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 (5L)(64bit only)
