110GB of HD space is missing

A few weeks ago my HD crashed and I took it into Apple to be replaced. It was 1TB HD. Today I noticed that I'm running out of space, looked, and found a gap of 110GB.
Disk Utility and WhatSize both show the capaity to 690GB with a 200GB partition on that disk.
Where is that other 110GB, or how can I find it?

I'm confused.
If you had a 1TB, is it now a 690GB drive?
If it's a 690, with a 200GB partition, do you see the remaining 490GB?
Either way, if I had a 1TB drive and it was replaced with anything less, I would take it back to Apple.

    * In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
    * Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

  • I ran out of power while partitioning, now 300GB of space is "missing"

Okay, so I was attempting to increase my windows partition by creating an image, reformatting, then moving the image back into the partition.
However, whilst trying to remove and recreate the partition, my battery died, and it stopped with the progress bar of creating my new 300GB partition somewhere in the middle.
Now, I've rebooted, and 300GB of space is missing from my hard drive, could someone please help me get this back?
    Thanks muchly!

    Hi,
normally the best way to remove a BootCamp Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable. After the reboot you can use the BootCamp Assistant again to make a new Windows partition and then install Windows again.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Most likely you only have one partition showing, your OSX one, since the partitioning itself went wrong.
So some steps can therefor be skipped.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Storage Spaces UI missing disks when a controller reports the same UniqueID for all attached disks (e.g. Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8)

Summary: The Storage Spaces UI has several problems when there are more than 21 physical disks available to Storage Spaces.
I have 28 SATA disks connected over 6 controllers. 2 are used for an Intel motherboard RAID1 for OS (PhysicalDisk0), so that leaves 26 data disks for Storage Spaces. [The plan is to get to 36 data disks in due course by adding disks (this 36-bay chassis: http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/847/SC847A-R1400LP.cfm)]
Initially, there were 23 data disks (5x 1TB, 1x 640GB, 14x 500GB, 3x 250GB) as PhysicalDisk1-23 (in that order), which I put into a storage pool. I created a parity disk over all 23 disks. It looks like it is working fine, albeit very slowly on writes.
I've now added 3 more 4TB disks, as PhysicalDisk24-26, and taken them offline, and have now noticed errors in the Storage Pools UI in the Server Manager. For example:
    * No more than 21 disks ever show up in the "Physical Disks" area in the lower right. When the 23 disks are connected, only the first 21 show up in the pool I created. With 26 disks connected, only the first 20 show up in the pool, and only 1 more of the
new 3 (PhysicalDisk26) shows up in the Primordial group.
    * In the Properties of the parity Virtual Disk created over the 23 disks, the disks are shown incorrectly. Again, only 21 disks are shown, and PhysicalDisk26 is incorrectly shown as part of the virtual disk. See image:
    * Using the New Storage Pool Wizard, I cannot add more than 1 of the new 3 disks to a new Storage Pool (only PhysicalDisk26 is available). And the details incorrectly refer to PhysicalDisk21. See image (a WDC WD2500JD-22H is a 250GB disk, not a 4TB disk).
Thus I cannot use the new disks in a new storage pool.
According the blog post at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/01/05/virtualizing-storage-for-scale-resiliency-and-efficiency.aspx:
    Q) What is the minimum number of disks I can use to create a pool? What is the maximum?
You can create a pool with only one disk. However, such a pool cannot contain any resilient spaces (i.e. mirrored or parity spaces). It can only contain a simple space which does not provide resiliency to failures. We do test pools comprising multiple hundreds
of disks – such as you might see in a datacenter. There is no architectural limit to the number of disks comprising a pool.
However, the UI currently does not seem to correctly work with more than 21 physical disks. Please advise.
    Using Server 2012 RC.
    Hardware: Supermicro X8SAX (BIOS v2.0), Intel i7-920 2.67GHz, 6x 2GB DDR3-1333 (certified Crucial CT25664BA1339.16SFD)
Disk controllers: 2x RAIDCore BC4852 (PCI-X, final 3.3.1 driver) (15 ports used), 2x Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 (PCIe, 4.0.0.1200 Marvell driver to allow >2TB disks) (6 ports used), Sil 3114 (PCI, latest 1.5.20.3 driver) (1 port used), motherboard Intel
in RAID mode (4 ports used for data, plus 2 for OS RAID1).

An update. I added 16x SATA disks across 2x Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. All 16 disks report the same UniqueID.
I have 25 disks in the pool now (23 as parity; 2 as journal added via PowerShell). 10 of these are on the two AOC-SASLP-MV8 controllers. Only the first 16 disks show up in the UI, so 9 are missing from the UI - which is consistent with this UI bug where
only one disk per UniqueID shows up. PowerShell does work to manage the SS.

  • Theme 7: space.gif missing

Just saw tons of errors in my Apache log for
    File does not exist: /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/Apache/Apache/images/themes/theme_7/space.gif
Searching for space in the images directory gives me
    ./f_spacer.gif
    ./left_bar_spacer.gif
    ./themes/theme_10/spacer.gif
    ./themes/theme_11/spacer.gif
    ./themes/theme_2/f_spacer.gif
    ./themes/theme_7/spacer.gif
    ./themes/theme_8/spacer.gif
./themes/theme_9/spacer.gifLooks like the CSS for Theme 7 has a typo in there! It needs to refer to spacer.gif and not space.gif!
I will copy spacer.gif to space.gif, but please fix this for future releases.
    Thanks

Another little bug in Theme 7, Hide and Show Region template
    [td align="right"][img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_7/form_region_bot_left.png" border="0" alt="" /][td]
    [td class="formRegionBot"] [td]
    [td align="left"][img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_7/form_region_bot_right" border="0" alt="" /][td]
The "form_region_bot_right" is missing the .png extension, so the Apache log shows 'File not found' and that little rounded corner on the bottom right is not rendered. :-(

  • Logical disk free space counters missing for server 2008 r2 and 2012 r2

I'm trying to get low disk space alerts for server 2008R2 and 2012 R2.  While the monitors exist for 2008 and 2012 (Not-R2), they are missign for all R2 operating systems.  Any idea how to either obtain these monitors, or create them so I can
get alerts for % disk free alerts?

What is your meaning of " monitors exist for 2008 and 2012 (Not-R2), they are missing for all R2 operating systems."? Does it means that the monitor is missing on all Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2 machine or it just a blank circle ?
By default, Windows XXX Logical disk Free Space monitor is enable for all windows XXX. You may check whether an override to disable it. Moreover, Windows Server XXXX Logical Disk Free Space (%) Low and Windows Server 2008 Logical Disk Free Space (MB) Low
is disable by default and you should manually enable it.

  • Failed Erase Free Space NOW missing all free space

I just recently performed an Erase Free Space from the Disk Utilities application. It failed and now I am missing all my free space. Can someone please help me correct this problem.
I did post this same question in another Forum. I wanted to make sure I posted it in the correct place.
    Thank you,
    Shannon

I think that a file is created that is the size of the free space, and then written over several times and then deleted. There may be a very large file lurking somewhere on your hard drive. You might want to try using a free utility like Whatsize to look for a large mysterious file, and if you find one then just delete it. Good luck.

  • Canceled partitioning process now that space is missing. Help?

I tried using bootcamp assistant to partition my computer but halfway through it froze so i had to turn my computer off completely. Apperently the partition never went through from disk utilities point of view but I'm still missing quite a bit of GB...
How do I go about recovering said gb?

If you are indeed using Snow Leopard as you state, boot from its Install DVD, run the Disk Utilities on the menu and inspect the drive by selecting it and clicking on the Partitions tab. See if you can extend the Macintosh HD to cover the unused space. When done, do a Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions just for good measure.
If you're really using the Lions, start up in Recovery Mode (Command-R prior to the chime) and do as above. Disk Repair is the bottom option on the main Recovery screen.  Holler if it don't work.

  • Spaces and Missing Windows

I've been using 10.5 since its release, and prefer to work with a number of Spaces open. Without fail, a number of times per day an application (seemingly random) will disappear from its Space, and (though still clearly running) be unable to be recovered unless I:
    1. Hide it using the dock, then click to reappear (usually successful)
    2. Manually assign the application to a specific space, then remove.
I've seen a number of discussions on other forums with users having the same problem, but it has gotten to the point that I don't want to use this machine for development anymore. I assumed it was a problem related to Spaces, but other posters have mentioned similar problems with Spaces turned off, so now I'm not as sure.
    I'd like to know if
1.) Anyone has found a permanent solution for this problem (that doesn't involve going back to 10.4...)
2.) Is this a problem Apple is aware of and feverishly working to correct?
    Message was edited by: Ronunism

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps are Snow Leopard compatible.
    Good luck in any case.

  • Problem with space label missing

    Hi everyone,
We have an application which update one database from another one.
And we found a strange things with label.
When we have for example this label "Test ", it seems that the blank part is cut by the dataset and then we have "Test" without blanks inserted in the destination database.
Is there an option to avoid that ? I mean "Test " is data input error, we have to corrected at the source but why blanks disappeared on .net application.
The source code is quite easy, did developers miss something ?
    OracleDataAdapter oda = new OracleDataAdapter(query, F_Connexion);

  • Ipad space storage missing

I am using an iPad retina 16gb. I tried to update from iOS 8.0.2 from 7 earlier thru wifi then during the update (where you see an apple) it hang there and I waited for 3 hours, so I tried a hard reset. So what happened is that it got corrupted and I lost all my data as it asked me to connect thru iTunes and restore to factory settings.
So now I restored to factory settings (I have no backup unfortunately) and I checked my "Usage" available is only 10.8GB with only used at 943MB. So I assume that the original download version of the iOS 8.0.2 installer (around 4GB) is somewhere inside my iPad but I cannot see in my iTunes.
How can I free this space again?
*Note I already checked in Software Update and there is no file to delete there. It just prompts me "iOS 8.0.2 Your software is up to date".

The apps that have been enhanced for the retina display are signifcantly larger.

So I have a few questions.

What is iTunesControl? Should it be taking up that much space? Is it safe to delete?

Should artwork take up this much space?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

I was just clearing some space on my ipod, I deleted around 5 songs and when I tried to put new music on it said there was no space.
Did you delete actual songs and not simply a playlist? Deleting a playlist doesn't free up space because it is only a link to songs and not the actual files.
Should there be that much space in the other section?
The storage space taken up by "Other" can be made up of, notes or files of any kind you've added to the iPod whilst using it as a hard disk or album artwork. Or sometimes when the iPod data base has become corrupt.
There will always be a few MBs of used space under "other", and yours seems perfectly normal.
What is iTunesControl? Should it be taking up that much space? Is it safe to delete?
The iTunes control file (iTunes Music Library.xml) contains artwork, volume & sound adjustments, ratings, play count info, etc. Not worth deleting.
Should artwork take up this much space?
    Again, perfectly normal.

  • Problems Recovering Sysaux table space with missing archive log

    Dear All
We have a 10G r2 database running on RHEL 4.2.
Today when updating certain records in one of the databases. whe have started getting the following error:
error occurred at recursive SQL level 2 ORA-00376: file 3 cannot be read at this time ORA-01110: data file 3: '/u02/oradata/EDM/datafile/o1_mf_sysaux_1wwwhpg5_.dbf'
This appears to have occurred as a result of one ofthe users adding a large amount of data to a table in one of the other tablespaces. Checking the V$datafile view shows this file to have a status of RECOVER. However on trying to do a
    recover datafile 3;
I'm told that a change number generated back in April 2006 is required, this being in an archive log we no longer have.
My question is how do I recover the datafile to the point in time shown without causing all the other tablespaces to revert to that date.
It seems the SYSAUX tablespace has been in RECOVER status for some time now with no effect on the operation of the database. As such I'm loathe to return all of the database back to 04/2006 and lose 18 months work. Is it possible to just fix the SYSAUX tablespace? If so what is the process? If I recover the TS to the point in time that the missing archive log occurs and then do a reset logs will that truncate all the other tablespaces.
    Many Thanks
    Paul

    Thanks for the reply
WE have a table named mlm_papertrail which, having added about 2000 rows to it, now causes the error shown whenever someone tries to insert a new row into it. Ihave created a new table and pointed the application to it and the problem no longer occurs.
However the SYSAUX tablespace is marked recover as is the datafile that forms it. I can only assume that adding the rows to the table has in turn caused sysaux to expand until it has hit a part of the disk that is damaged or corrupt.
I've tried recovering both the tablespace and the datafile getting the request for the archivelog back in 04/06. Again I can only assume the sysaux file has been damaged at this point, but till now hasn't caused any problems.
I don't want to roll the whole database back to 04/06 since in the main it works fine. But obviously the SYSAUX tablespace needs recovering.
My question is how do I do that with as little pain as possible :-)
Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll try what you suggest.
    regards
    paul

  • Envy X2 128GB SSD space is missing

Does anyone know why the 128GB SSD drive on an Envy X2 would only have 116GB of total space?  This is the TOTAL space allocated to the 4 partitions that were preconfigured on the drive, NOT total free space.  I wonder if this discrepancy (or other problems) might be the reason that HP no longer appears to be offering the 128GB CTO option?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
For small computers, HP use HDD/SSD from other vendors. From time to time, contracts and agreements from vendor to venor(s) may expire and one party may not renew the contract(s). Very hard to say why because nearly ALL contracts/agreements from vendors to vendors/customers are bounded in commercial secretes.
    Hope this makes sense.
