1142 Access Point Signal pulsing

Hi, I've recently set up a guest wireless in my office, using a WLC 2504 controlling 4 1142 APs. They have been working great for about a month, but as of yesterday, the Wifi signal from 2 of the APs began to pulse - 5 seconds on, 1 second off - which makes it unusable. They are connected as such:
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~200ft run), to 1142 AP1 (~100ft)     THIS AP IS PULSING
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~25ft run), 1142 AP2 (~50ft)     THIS AP IS PULSING
WLC direct to 3750, to another 3750 (~25ft run), to 1142 AP3 (~200ft)     THIS AP IS WORKING NORMALLY
WLC direct to 3750, to media transfer, 1000ft fibre to media transfer, to 3750 (~6ft), to 1142 AP (200ft) THIS AP IS WORKING NORMALLY
All APs are receiving PoE from their last 3750 (at default levels). I've cycled the individual APs, as well as the WLC, but the issue remains.
Except for the initial 3750 directly connected, all other 3750's are different.
I not very familiar with the WLC/APs, so if you need more information to help me, please ask.
Thanks!
(attached is a pdf of the layout)

When I say pulsating, I'm speaking in regards to the WiFi signal of the AP 1142. The signal comes up for about 5 seconds, then disappears. After a second or two, it's back, but disappears again. All of the APs are set at power level 1, and nothing else on the 3750's have PoE enable, so the power should be stable.
I don't see anything that sticks out in the log, but I am not very familiar with the WLC. I've attached a copy of the log so you can take a look. I had to reboot the WLC this morning so the logs are a bit short.

  • Access point Signal strength

Could someone please tell me how to configure my WLC 2504 to set the associated access points signal strength to maximum?

You can set maximum power individually on each AP or you can set them globally to Power Level 1 which is the maximum power level by going to:
    Wireless > 802.11b/g/n or 802.11 a/n/ac > RRM > Power Level Assignment Method > Fixed 1

  • 1142 Access Point - DHCP trouble

    Hi there,
I am setting up an autonomous 1142 Access Point. The intended goal is to get it accessible though 2 SSIDs:
Private: VLAN3 (our internal data VLAN)
    Guest: VLAN98 (our DMZ/Segregated VLAN)
At present, our VLAN3/internal users get DHCP addresses from x2 Windows DHCP servers. Eventually, the DMZ VLAN connections will get their IP addresses from a switch in our DMZ VLAN.
At the moment, I am able to authenticate with the Access Point through the VLAN 3 SSID but never get an IP address. I have posted the switch port config below as well as the Access Point config. I'm a newbie on these devices so any help would be greatly appreciated:
    **SWITCH PORT CONFIG**
    interface FastEthernet0/10
description IT Office Wireless Access Point
    switchport trunk native vlan 3
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 3,98
    switchport mode trunk
    speed 100
    duplex full
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    **AP Config**
Attached to the post as quite wordy

    Hi Danny,
You have a native vlan mismatch between the AP and the switch. The switchport has vlan 3 defined as the native, but it is not defined as native on your AP.
You will simply want to add the keyword native at the end of the following line under your .3 subinterfaces:
    encapsulation dot1Q 3 native
On another note, to take full advantage of the 1140 series AP with 802.11n connections, you will need to use WPA2 with AES encryption:
encryption vlan x mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
This will allow use of both WPAv1/TKIP and WPAv2/AES

  • RE: How to secure an access point signal.

    Hi everyone,
I have difficulty making my access point wireless signal secure. My network setup is simple, Modem to Router to Homeplug 1st floor, (secure wireless signal),
2nd floor (secure signal). Problem when comes to 3rd floor, signal too weak, so I place Homeplug to Access Point. (wireless works well but not secured).
Tried calling D-link support but was told that I need to fix static IP address before things can work. What the **** is that? Was told many technical issue about sub-net different, etc. Lastly the setup disc don't work with a Mac. (HaHa).
Thank you all in advance for the solution.

How are you going to connect them?  cat5 or coax?
    cat5 instructions:
Can I use my wireless or an extra router along with the Verizon provided router?
    coax instructions:
Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?

  • 802.11a on 1142 access point

    hey
if i  deploy WIPT on 1142 series AP and using 802.11a .Will i work coz i read in cisco document
that 1100 series access point doesnot have 802.11a  radio

    Hi,
The 1142 does have the A-Radio.. where in the 1141 Does not.. if the requirement is to have a A-radio for WIPT, then it is possible.. the below datasheets link will let us know that we do hv a A-Radio in 1142AP.

  • Is it possible to migrate an access point between regulatory domains?

I see appendices full of channel usage and power maximums, but nothing that states clearly wether or not it is possible to simply reconfigure a lightweight access point deployed in one regulatory domain so that it can be used in another?
Example - have an 1142 access point in Japan and would like to repurpose it for use in London.  Do I need to buy a new access point or can I reconfigure the Japan AP for use in London via software.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
for the regulatory domain it is hardcoded in the AP itself.
so for AP to be used in london , you need to purchase a -E AP.
now you still can connect the -J in london , and join it to WLC  with Japan country code, but that would be breach for the eroupean regulations and allowed frequencies...
the only migration you can perform in AP is between Japanese codes ( that allow different frequency ranges).

  • How to add a second router as access point and wifi signal extender

Previously I had 2 linksys routers and was able to configure them as one in separate areas of my house.  I think it is called cascading.  The 2nd router acted as an ethernet switch with 4 extra ports and it provided a wifi signal to areas of my house that previously had a weak signal when I used only one router.
I have since switched to an Airport Extreme as my main router.  I can't seem to get the same configuration with the linksys router, it is Model E1000 and has an "N" signal.  The Linksys E1000 I think is the newer model of the old WRT54G Linksys.  I can't get it configured to work.  I have searched high and low on the internet and can't find anything simple enough for a novice to understand.  I did read something that I may have to assign a "DHCP Reservation" on the Apple Extreme.  I couldn't figure that out.
Can somebody please offer some guidance on how to get this to work?
    Thanks

You have two routers producing two networks with the same name, so they will show up as two networks on any type of scan by a wireless utility. This is normal.
If you had used two Linksys devices, they would probably show up as one network, not two. Linksys has a feature that allows this to occur, but this is not true of Apple devices.
As long as the wireless network name, wireless security and password match up between the two routers, the two networks will behave as if they were one. As computers change location, they will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the strongest signal.

  • Third Party Signal Repeaters/Wireless Extenders for Boosting Cisco Access Points Indoors

We are have some buildings that have access points (Cisco 2602e with 6dBi Terrawave omni antennas) in the hallways, in which the clients residing in rooms aren't receiving a strong enough signal to connect at suitable rates. The main reason for this is the large thick doors utilized for the client rooms reducing the strength of the signal, and we weren't authorized to place APs inside the rooms. Nor are we able to modify the structure of the building, such as changing the doors. We can't ask or expect the clients to keep their doors open to rcv a stronger signal. I've tweaked the Tx power for the APs, and lowered the mandatory rates on the WLC for this location under the RF profile created for it, but this isn't resolving the issue with the weak signal.
One band aid solution idea was to place signal repeaters (low profile) inside each room, behind the wall/door area facing the hallway. I've seen a few third party products online, but they seem to only come in support of the 2.4GHz band. If this is a feasible solution, then it looks like we wouldn't be able to support clients on the 5GHz band on our AP, as clients would most likely connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to a stronger signal, limiting our load balancing on the AP. Anyone have experience with using signal repeaters that work properly with Cisco APs.
Not the ideal situation, but have the hands strapped on what we can do.

If you've got a WLC, then disable TPC and crank up the power to full.

  • Apple TV 2G (Airplay and Homesharing) can only stream from devices on the same wireless access point range??

    connection:
40 Mbps Fiber Broadband connection using:
    Devices:
    1. Main Modem/router (AP1): Huawei HG8245 (provided by ISP) - Wireless enabled.
    2. Remote Access point (AP2): Linksys/Cisco E3200 Wireless gigabyte router flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/14/11) mini (Cascaded -wired- LAN to LAN from main modem).
    3. Wireless Repeater to cover a dead spot  (AP3): Linksys/Cisco E1000 wireless repeater.
    4. Apple Tv (AT2G) with home sharing/airplay enabled.
5.( Ipad) with home sharing on itunes enabled.
    6. Win7 (PC) using iTunes with Home sharing enabled.
all devices are updated to their latest firmware.
In order to cover a large 3 story house with Wifi. I had (AP1) is located on the first floor, while (AP2) is located in the basement floor directly wired by LAN to LAN with (AP1). (AP3) is located on the Ground floor away from the living room to repeat wireless network into the back yard. While (AT2G) is located in the living room on the ground floor right in the middle of both (AP1) + (AP2) while connected via Wifi.
Network SSID, security, passphrase and wireless settings of (AP2) are identical to (AP1) to create a single big LAN/WLAN roaming network where all devices connected to both wireless access points can find/share the others. As understood, it's refered to as bridging.
I have noticed that my iphone/ipad does not show the airplay button anywhere within the wireless network. it seems that the apple TV randomly choses to connect to the AP with stronger signal, or switch to the other in case of a reboot to one of them.
to elaborate further, if i was sitting in the living room (groundfloor), trying to airplay some you tube contents via Wifi to my Apple TV, i may not find the airplay button available all the time, i found out the reason is while i'm wirelessly connected to AP1, the Apple TV was connected to AP2 and both deviced cannot detect each others to enable my purpose. that goes the same for Home Sharing. only if my Ipad/PC and Apple Tv are on the same wireless AP. they would detect each others immediately.
although, the second AP (AP2) is suppose to extend my wireless network of the same subnet in which any device connected can be found.
After all sorts of trial and error tweaking my router/access point, I thought the problem would be due to the Linksys 3200 capability of bridging WLAN and lacks few protocols that enables my purpose. i have flashed the firmware to a DD-WRT, but again, problem was not solved.
I have not tried having my Apple Tv wired to either router/AP, but i assume it may work well if i do so. i still need to solve this wireless connection issue though.
Am i the only one with this problem, would there be something wrong with my setup?
    Your feedback is highly appreciated.

You may or may not already have your network set up correctly, it's just that I can't tell from what you have said.
I have a main router provided by my ISP, I have several other Airport Extremes and Airport expresses connected by Ethernet, all set up to bridge the network created by the main router.
Each maker has their own settings, but bridging should be reasonably obvious. In simple terms my main router distributes IP addresses to all devices, the Airports bridge that network by passing these addresses to the devices from the main router. A base station that isn't in bridging mode will distribute its own addresses to the devices connected to it.
I don't really follow your next point.
instruction for configuration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, the best course of action here is to refer to the manual. If everything is set up properly the addresses of everything on your network will have identical sets of numbers for the first 3 of 4 groups of numbers that make up an address, the last set must always be different. I think the part you are referring to with your DD-WRT is the option to have Ethernet and wifi bridged or not.
Some routers may be easier to configure than others, but generally speaking they should all work with the Apple TV. 5Ghz is less likely to suffer interference but it is much more likely to be blocked by solid objects, it may or may not be an advantage.

  • How do I use Airport Extreme to create wired access point on wireless network?

Bit of an odd situation. I just went from cable to DSL at home and the modem moved from right by my computer to upstairs.
Trouble is, there's no real easy way to get a cable from the modem upstairs to my X-box (sans wireless connector) downstairs.
I could buy the wireless adaptor for the X-Box, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend any more money.
I have my airport extreme, and I was hoping I could use it to create a wired access point on the network, recieving the signal from the wireless modem upstairs and allowing me to plug in the X-Box.
Is this possible? If so, how? I've been through the config panel about a dozen times, but can't figure out what combination to set up.
    Thanks.

Will it work if I use the express to create the network?
Yes, providing that you have an 802.11n version of the AirPort Express and the Express has been configured to "Allow this network to be extended".
Then, the AirPort Extreme can be configured to "extend" the Express network. When you do this, the AirPort Extreme will provide more wireless coverage and the LAN Ethernet ports are enabled, so you can connect an Ethernet device.
This will not be a "normal" Ethernet connection. It will only work as well as the wireless "hop" between the Express and Extreme allow.
For best results and performance, a wired connection through the hole in the wall is always best. If you decide to do this, you will need the "new" AirPort Express with both a WAN and LAN port on the device. But, you could try wireless first to see if it will meet your goals before you reach for the tools.

  • How do i get AE to work as well as old d-link access point

i have a d-link DSL-604+ which is great - works for broadband acts as a hub and provides wireless at one end of my long thin house. my main mac is plugged into it and works great. i ran some time ago a cat5e cable under the floor boards when we moved in to the other end where the wireless doesnt reach (just) and there i had a d-link dwl-900ap+ connected by the wire to the main router. it was setup with the same ssid and a different channel. my windows work laptop - depending on which end of the house i was would pick up the ssid and connect to the stronger signal no problems i could even walk up and down and it would switch over. now they are both b only and i have recently bought a new airport express with the plan of using airtunes upgrading speed of link and eventually changing my laptop to a mac. now on the old system my router would act as DHCP giving a 192.168 address. i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do? however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd - if i then move the laptop constantly tries connecting to both APs and changes its ip address. if i tell the AE to use 192.168 it says this conflicts with a wan setting. is there a way of saying get dhcp from elsewhere?
i am sure this is really straightforward and i am missing something. the dlink was easy i told it it was an access point - my network was called xxx and that the network had dhcp and it just worked.
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly? i ran a cable.
    thanks

Yes you will manually need to enter the SSID.
however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd
You also need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to bridge (not share a single IP address).

You should be using the "create a network" option.
