11g (11.2.0.1) - dimension operator very slow on incremental load

Dimension operator very slow in porcessing incremental loads on 11.2.0.1 Have applied cumulative patch - still same issue.
Statistics also gathered.
Initial load into empty dimension performs fine (thousands of records in < 1 min) - incremental load been running over 10 mins and still not loaded 165 records from staging table.
Any ideas?
Seen in 10.2.0.4 and applied patch which cured this issue.

Hi,
Thanks for the excellent suggestion.
Have run other mapings which maintain SCD type 2 using dimesnion operator behave similary to 10g. - have raised issue with this particular mapping with Oracle - awaiting response.
One question - when look at the mappings which maintain SCD Type 2s looks to join on dimension key and the surrogate ids.
What is best practice regarding indexing of such a dimension, e.g is it recommended to index dimension key and the surrogate ids along with the natural/nbusiness keys?
Thanks

  • Macbook Pro Is Operating Very Slow....

My Macbook Pro is 2 years old. I purchased it from New York . I live in India. Nowadays my macbook is operating too slow. Initial startup is very slow and also launching apps and other function are also working slow. I am little irritated with this,. I need a solution ASAP.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Time capsule disk operations very slow

    Hello,
My time capsule became very slow since a few days.
File transfert from any computer s(Mac and PC) on the network to the tme capsule is now extremely slow. Does not matter if I user Ethernet or Airport.
No configuration change have been made neither network change.
Thanks in advance for any help.

-To sum up things: The setting "DHCP + NAT" delivers fast copying speeds
Yes. You will eliminate the backroute to the fiber modem or maybe even back to your ISP - depending on their setup.
The standard setting of the router is "DHCP + NAT" right?
Normally the standard setting is good enough to obtain an internet connection instantly (without filling in IP, DNS etc. manually).
Yes, you shoudl not have to fill in those details. Should work straight away as your MBP gets thos edetails automatically (yes?)
best to reset the Airport Extreme to defaults and connect it again using DHCP / NAT

  • Internet Browsing Very, Very Slow/Incomplete Page Loads

    _*The Computers:*_
MacPro 2008 dual quad core and MacBookPro 2.66 mid 2009 both running OS 10.5.8.
    _*The Problem:*_
The Mac Pro which is hard wired is very very slow and many times will time out before it can load a page or will only load part of the page (lots of little boxes with question marks in them or page loads part of the way and stops)and the wheel just keeps spinning. Sometimes I can hit the x and reload and it will work just fine. Sometimes, this does not help. The MacBook Pro which is wireless behaves the same way.
    _*The Internet Set Up:*_
DSL line runs from wall to Surewest (ISP) router, then out to a 5 port Dlink switch. From the switch I run straight into the Mac Pro and to the Airport Express. The Airport Express is about 2.5 years old. It runs b/g while the MacBook Pro has draft N capability. I noticed that since I replaced my older MacBook Pro which was b/g, the new one shows a much stronger signal, which is why I can't understand why its slower.
    _*The Testing:*_
I don't think its my ISP because when I run speedtest.net, I get what I always get, 3mb/s download and I have run that test many, many times over the last few days. The only change has been in the ping. It used to be consistently 16-17 ms and now it varies going as high as 24-26 ms. I have no clue if that is indicative of a problem. Data downloads, including iTunes work just fine.
    _*Potential Culprit:*_
The only other change was that this weekend, I downloaded xmarks (formerly foxmarks) to unify and coordinate my bookmarks across both computers. I have since run the xmarks uninstaller on both machines and deleted the online account. However, it has not made any difference.
    _*Attempted Solutions:*_
I already rebooted the Airport Express and changed the channel from auto to a higher number. No effect.
    _*Other Possible Solutions:*_
I will reboot the ISP modem tonight.
I am also considering uninstalling and reinstalling Safari with the thought that xmarks somehow screwed it up, but I also had the problem in Firefox in which I did not install xmarks. If I pull the Safari bookmark.plst file before I uninstall Safari, I should be able to just drop it in to the fresh install and keep my bookmarks.
Someone suggested that I switch to Open DNS. This is beyond my area of expertise so to speak, so I am a little afraid to mess with it. If one of you wouldn't mind giving me a more complete explanation and instructions, I would appreciate it.
Any other thoughts, advice or things to try? Thanks for the assistance.

    Greetings,
Deleting and then reinstalling Safari is not a solution, so I would strongly advise against it. It's very rare that the application you're having a problem with using is the actual problem; rather, it's something the program relies on that is causing the problem. Instead, try this:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network>Advanced.
In the DNS Server window, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have (if any):
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Disk Permisions, restart Safari and see if the speed is improved.

  • Certain 3D Operations Very Slow on 16 Bit Images

I haven't had Photoshop Extended before CS6, so I've been experimenting with doing some simple 3D stuff, such as turning text into 3D shapes and trying to match it to a photographic background.
What I'm doing seems quite simple, and it seems to be working, but there's one glitch:  A few things seem to take a really long time.  At worst, Photoshop goes completely unresponsive for about 40 seconds.
A good example is this:  I have a photo I've opened in RGB/16 mode at 4096 x 6144 pixels, and I create a new Text layer over the photo with one word in it:  STOP
I click the 3D button in the Options area for the Text Tool, and wait a full 40+ seconds before seeing the pop-up that asks whether I want to switch to the 3D workspace.
    I assume a 40 second delay isn't normal.  It's certainly not acceptable.
Once in the 3D editing realm, I can do most things with relative ease, such as moving the 3D mesh around, rotating it, changing lighting, etc.  The update time for any of those operations to show is maybe 1/2 second or so to show on the screen.  Some things are a little faster.  Even rendering it into a pretty clean state is fairly quick - just 10 seconds or so.
I've tested this in both Photoshop CS6 32 bit and 64 bit, and the performance seems about the same, as does the appearance of the long delay.
    Other observations:
I also see the long delay if I click on a history step to go back or forward in the history.
If I work on an 8 bits/channel image the 40 seconds is reduced to about 2 seconds.
I have a decent 8 core machine, with (by today's standards) a modest graphics card:  ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 1 GB DDR5.  I'm on the ATI Catalyst 12.2 drivers because the 12.4 (latest) set has other problems.  But when I did try the 3D stuff with 12.4 the delay was the same.
Example:  Going from this screen to the one below takes 40 seconds.
    ...40 seconds later...
Ultimately tweaking it to look decent seems doable - no crashes or glitches...
Not knowing what to expect, or what I should expect to not try to do, what I'm doing seems pretty simple.  Am I trying something I shouldn't?  Is it just a given that to do 3D one is supposed to work on 8 bits/channel data?
    -Noel

    Thanks Steve.
Wow, an honest 24 cores?  Do you physically have 4 processors?  I wasn't aware of any actual 12 core chips having become available yet.
That's the machine you use to determine if Photoshop delivers sufficiently fast performance, then?
Here's the additional information you requested:
    > Can you zip up the results after 3D extrusion, as well?
    I did this:
    Opened the 3DTest.psd file.
    Chose the T tool.
Pressed the 3D button in the options bar.
Noted in Task Manager that it looked like 1+ cores were busy (i.e., I was seeing 15% to 20% CPU usage overall).
After 40 seconds it asked if I want to switch to the 3D workspace.  I chose No.
I then did File - Save As - 3DTestAfterExtrusion.psd, and the file written was 345 megabytes, which seems a bit large considering what's in it.
Then I realized I had left the Maximize PSD and PSB Compatibility setting at "Always".
In the History Panel I clicked on the Open step to undo everything.
I changed the Maximize Compatibility setting to Never.
I then clicked the 3D button again, and this time it did the extrusion and put up the 3D grid almost instantly.
Then I chose File - Save As, and chose the same file.
Photoshop then put up the "Photoshop has stopped working" dialog (i.e., it crashed).  I chose "Debug", and this is what I saw:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 13.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4f61c045
Faulting module name: atio6axx.dll, version: 6.14.10.11554, time stamp: 0x4f3b249f
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000b63bf1
    Faulting process id: 0x1410
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cd3540bcac5b5b
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atio6axx.dll
    Report Id: 13b66384-a136-11e1-8538-005056c00008
Since the module is atio6axx.dll, it sure smells like an ATI display driver problem.
A zip file containing the result of the first save (with Maximize Compatiblity on) is here:
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/temp/3DTestAfterExtrusion.zip
Since I have had newer ATI drivers installed, then uninstalled them and installed older ones, there is the distinct possibility that something is left over from a prior installation (i.e., something newer than 12.2 is mixed with 12.2) because of ATI uninstaller deficiencies.  However, all the ati*.* fand amd*.* files I can find appear to have February dates.
    More in the next post...

  • MACbook Pro Operating VERY slow

Let me first clarify, I have a mid 2010 Macbok Pro with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory with a 500 GB Sata Disk Hard drive.
I have had speed issues since downloading OSX Mavericks and my problem keeps getting worse. Around the same time I upgraded to LR5 (lightroom 5). At first I though LR5 was the main culprit. I thought it was a memory hog (still think it is to an extint). So I started closing all other programs whille running LR5 (I did a force quite to make certain nothing else was running in the background). It seemed to make an improvement....for about an hour, then I started having speed issues again. Each time I went to load a new image, I would wait sometimes up to 30-60 seconds. I have played with several settings in LR and spent some time on forums reading about issues and trying to find fixes.
Then one day, while LR was clsoed (I have it open most of the time), I found I experienced several slow down issues onmany other programs. My mail, when I had multiple web browsers open, when ever I seemd to have more than 1 or 2 applications open and running. I thought maybe some of my RAM isn't working any longer. Not the issue according to what I can tell, it seems to be working. So over the last sevral days, I have tried multiple things:
I cleared up space on the Hard Drive. It was very low...down to 17 GB. It gets this way sometimes becasue I am a photographer, but I alwasy move last months images once I enter a new month, so this wasn't anything new. Still, I cleared up space. I now have almost 43 GB of free space. This seemed ot help for about 2 hours and then all the sudden speed issues again.
I installed Omni Disk Sweeper to see if it could find files I wasn't aware were still on my system. Thought maybe I can remove some of them to free up more space. I did find several images on some temp folder I wasn't aware of and I didn't need the images any longer, so I cleaned those up to help get the free space I have now. That also seemed to help fopr an hour or two and then more speed problems.
I then installed ClamXav based on a similar issue I read on the Apple forum. I started trying to run it on the entire user profile I have. Because that is a large area, that is taking exremely long. During trying to run it, on several occasions, my system bogs down (I had everyhting else closed) and it stops running for several minutes and tI ge the ebach ball as usual. Three times, it never seemd to unfreeze, so I had to power down to restart. During the first time I tried running it, it said it found an itm which may have been maleware called Mac Security. It was only an install package and I found nothing else installed or downloaded besides the install package. I don't recall installing anything with that title, but I vaugly recall seeing some add awhile back for it saying it could improve my speed issues. I downloaded the install package, but after reading about the software, I didn't download the package and thought I removed the insatll package as well. So I removed the install package and cleaned out the trash.
Since then, I have tried running the ClamXav again three diferent times and each time it freezes after severela hours and doesn't go any further. The only other thing it keeps finding are exlm files. As I understand, these are related to my Apple mail and are not an issue, so I ddi not deleter them.
Bottom line, is I am tired and fed up. I am by no means a computer expert on either hardware or software and konw just enough to cause myself more trouble. I don't have the cash right now to get my macbook serviced, so I am hoping I can find help here. Any suggesitons are certainly welcomed.
    Thank You

ProTec6b: Path: /Library/StartupItems/ProTec6b  These two are antipiracy software that show up frequently in misbehaving macs in these discussions.  There are two versions, 6 and 6b. One of them is bad, having two is worse. Options:
remove the 6 version from /Library/StartupItems, restart, test your mac's performance.
    remove both versions, retest
see if there's an updated version on the developer's website that will work better
use alternative software that doesn't require you to put bad antipiracy software on your mac that slows it down.

The next categories are loaded at startup and are potential causes for poor performance, as they run all the time, in the background. I've marked the more suspicious ones in red. I'd address those first.
    Kernel Extensions:
com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower          (1.5.2)   There was just a post yesterday about this one, which is also a frequent flyer on the misbehaving bad driver list. I’d get rid of it. It’s probably in /Library/Extensions or /System/Library/Extensions. I'd remove it, restart your mac, retest your performance. You can run etrecheck again to make sure it's gone.
    Problem System Launch Daemons:
    Problem System Launch Agents:
    Launch Daemons:
              [loaded] com.adobe.fpsaud.plist
              [loaded] com.adobe.SwitchBoard.plist
[loaded] com.google.keystone.daemon.plist    This can be a problem. It is spyware from Google that can slow things down.
[failed] com.splashtop.streamer.SRServiceDaemon.plist  Failed means that is was too incompatible to load. Should be removed.
The way this works with the Daemons and Agents is that you should try to remove the entire app that is responsible for the daemon or agent. This can involve some detective work. These are .plist files, and if you just try to remove the .plist file itself it probably won't work, because of two reasons:
when the app runs again, it will just generate the .plist file again
Mavericks caches .plist files more than before, and nobody seems to know exactly how to get rid of them from the cache yet. I've asked on this forum and no answers so far.
So the thing to do is uninstall the app that puts the daemon or agent there. The way to do this is:
figure out what the app is that is responsible for that daemon. A browser search for that daemon may help.
then use the uninstaller provided by the developer to remove all of the app. Unfortunately, one of the hallmarks of crapware is there is usually no uninstaller. So in that case, another web search, e.g., "uninstall xxx" , where xxx is the name of the app, may be helpful.
    Launch Agents:
              [not loaded] com.adobe.AAM.Updater-1.0.plist
[loaded] com.google.keystone.agent.plist  see comment above re: keystone

              [loaded] com.nds.pcshow.uninstall.plist

Depending on your level of experience you may not be comfortable digging around in your Mac's system files to remove all these various bits of software. In that case, try removing just the soundflower and protec, as those are more discrete and should be easier to remove. Then restart your mac and rerun etrecheck and see how your performance is.

  • Operation very slow, Mini Server

    Dear all,
my MAC Mini Server takes for each and every operation minutes instead of seconds and currently the updates will end with a failure (All updates could not be proceeded)
    Any suggestion to this ?!
    Thanks for all help,
    Joshua

Volume corruptions and failing disk storage hardware can also cause slowness, but it's not clear what sort of errors you're encountering here.
If you're seeing hardware or I/O errors reported by the Disk Utility repair-volume mechanism, then I'd suggest getting an immediate backup of your (potentially failing?) disk, using Disk Utility, to an external storage device; to a USB disk or similar.  Best to get a copy now, should this actually be a hardware failure in progress.
Some number of (correctable) file-protection errors from repair-permissions mechanism is unfortunately somewhat normal for an OS X or OS X Server system, and — if Disk Utility can resolve those ownership or protection settings online or possibly after a reboot and running Disk Utility via the recovery partition — are not usually a problem.
If you're not sure what you're looking at with those errors, then some more details on what was done within Disk Utility (permissions?  volume verification?) and a few more details of the particular errors that were reported, would possibly be useful.

  • Keynote file menu and file operations very slow

Anyone else seeing specific slow downs when you open, save, etc or access the file menu on the new version of keynote 5.1 using 10.6.8.
    Any fixes?

I will try to make a WebDAV repository out of one on Monday.
I just tried something different though.  I logged on as a user with administrator rights, it only took 13 seconds to list the directory instead of 3 minutes plus.  The regular user has rights and eventually sees what they should, it is just painfully slow.

  • Pages is operating very SLOW

    why so slow???
    eg. typing, selecting.. etc
    anyone else have this problem?
    is it just my RAM?
I have relaunched pages several times..

No, my machine is only a few months old and I haven't messed with it at all.
Everything in my document is pretty much all standard stuff also. I don't see why there would be any problems.
My situation is exactly as described by the first respondent. Slow when typing/selecting in tables that have Object Placement as 'Inline'.. which is a pretty standard set-up that I'm sure many people have. But speed is fine if table is 'Floating' or when I am typing outside the table.
    Specifically:
    - My document is portrait orientation
    - Includes some Greek characters(α, β, γ, etc.), some arrows and a .tiff image as well as superscripted and subscripted text
    - Fonts are standard
but I don't see why any of this should have any effect as the program should easily be able to handle this.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
