Use SQL*Plus to execute SQL, PL/SQL and SQL*Plus statements.
Usage 1: sqlplus -H | -V
-H Displays the SQL*Plus version and the
usage help.
-V Displays the SQL*Plus version.
Usage 2: sqlplus [ [<option>] [{logon | /nolog}] [<start>] ]
<option> is: [-C <version>] [-L] [-M "<options>"] [-R <level>] [-S]
-C <version> Sets the compatibility of affected commands to the
version specified by <version>. The version has
the form "x.y[.z]". For example, -C 10.2.0
-L Attempts to log on just once, instead of
reprompting on error.
-M "<options>" Sets automatic HTML markup of output. The options
have the form:
HTML ON [HEAD text] [BODY text] [TABLE text]
[ENTMAP {ON|OFF}] [SPOOL {ON|OFF}] [PRE[FORMAT] ON]
-R <level> Sets restricted mode to disable SQL*Plus commands
that interact with the file system. The level can
be 1, 2 or 3. The most restrictive is -R 3 which
disables all user commands interacting with the
file system.
-S Sets silent mode which suppresses the display of
the SQL*Plus banner, prompts, and echoing of
commands.
<logon> is: {<username>[<password>][@<connect_identifier>] | / }
[AS {SYSDBA | SYSOPER | SYSASM}] [EDITION=value]
Specifies the database account username, password and connect
identifier for the database connection. Without a connect
identifier, SQL*Plus connects to the default database.
The AS SYSDBA, AS SYSOPER and AS SYSASM options are database
administration privileges.
<connect_identifier> can be in the form of Net Service Name
or Easy Connect.
@[<net_service_name> | [/]Host[:Port]/<service_name>]
<net_service_name> is a simple name for a service that resolves
to a connect descriptor.
Example: Connect to database using Net Service Name and the
database net service name is ORCL.
sqlplus myusername/mypassword@ORCL
Host specifies the host name or IP address of the database
server computer.
Port specifies the listening port on the database server.
<service_name> specifies the service name of the database you
want to access.
Example: Connect to database using Easy Connect and the
Service name is ORCL.
sqlplus myusername/mypassword@Host/ORCL
The /NOLOG option starts SQL*Plus without connecting to a
database.
The EDITION specifies the value for Session Edition.
<start> is: @<URL>|<filename>[.<ext>] [<parameter> ...]
Runs the specified SQL*Plus script from a web server (URL) or the
local file system (filename.ext) with specified parameters that
will be assigned to substitution variables in the script.
When SQL*Plus starts, and after CONNECT commands, the site profile
(e.g. $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/glogin.sql) and the user profile
(e.g. login.sql in the working directory) are run. The files may
contain SQL*Plus commands.
Refer to the SQL*Plus User's Guide and Reference for more information.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.4 client/ODP connecting to 11g database

    Hi Folks -
Are there any know problems using an Oracle 10.2.0.4 client and the 10.2 ODP/ODAC client to connect to an 11g database?
Normally ,we'd use the Oracle 11g client/ODP but it is giving us errors so we need to go back to 10g
    ..any foresee-able problems with this?

soryy it took so long to reply.
we hit a bug which was supposed to be fixed in 11g client but is still there. OraOps11x.dll causing IIS 6.0 to crash. Took us a week to figure out what it was and didn't even consider it being an error caused by the 11g client until MS support pointed it out in a dump file we had them analyze. Oracle support confirmed it was true and last I heard they plan to have it fixed in the next update to the client, which they say is scheduled for end of July 2008. I hope it is fixed, because we're running into other problems with the 10.2.0.4 client also (ORA-21500 [%],[%],[%],[%],[%]).

  • Having both 10g and 11g database in single xp machine Not working

    Hi everyone ,
I installed an oracle 10g database and it was working fine and i wanted to have an 11g database installed and so i did in a separate folder and it got installed successfully but all the net service of my 10g is not getting recognized and so i uninstall 11g and it worked fine and back to normal.
    1. Can't i install both 10g and 11g in a database.
    2. How can i have both them installed without issues in Windows XP SP3 32 bit.

I have 10G express installed on XP and I was planning to install 11G.
So what I learned from this thread:
-Yes it is possible to install 11g and 10G on the same xp machine.
-To use both version you must change few parameters every time.
so basically it is possible but not recommended. is that a fair description?
No that is not a fair description. It is possible and quite easily managed. But you do have to be aware of where you are. If you want to just pop in a CD, click 'install.exe', then click an icon to magicly connect to the correct database, then yeah, I'd say it's not recommended, but that says more about the user than the product ...
Of course, could go even further and say I don't think Windows should be recommended, period. I've worked with IBM mainframes (s-370, OS-VS, OS-MVS, VM, OS/x, etc.), DEC's vms, IBM OS/2, every version of Windows since it's birth, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Red Hat Linux. Windows is the worst excuse for an OS of any of them.
If you are doing this on your on PC as a learning tool, I'd strongly suggest you
    1) go to vmware.com and get a free copy of vmware player and install it on your pc
    2) go to oracle.com and get free copy of Oracle Enterprise Linux and install that into a virtual machine under vmware player
    3) go to oracle.com and get free copies of whatever oracle products you want and install them on that virtual linux machine.
By the way, I installed 11g on Vista machine and it is working fine but I uninstall 10G first on that machine.

Whenever an ORA-600 error is raised a trace file is generated and an entry written to the alert.log with details of the trace file location. Starting with Oracle Database 11g Release 1, the diagnosability infrastructure was introduced which places the trace and core files into a location controlled by the DIAGNOSTIC_DEST initialization parameter when an incident, such as an ORA-600 is created. For earlier versions, the trace file will be written to either USER_DUMP_DEST (if the error was caught in a user process) or BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST (if the error was caught in a background process like PMON or SMON). The trace file contains vital information about what led to the error condition

  • What should i do with an Oracle 11g Database, MySQL database and a dump file.

I just joining to a new work field, almost about a database and i know "NOTHING" about this field.
My company has a system that running by Oracle Database, the problem is that Oracle Database will cost a lot of money when my company expands.
So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
Of course i cant try to convert it in the main Database, so i create one Oracle 11g Database on my LocalHost, and it already actived in " Localhost:1158 " etc.
I have another Sever test that already set up MySQL database, and a dump file from the system.
So I want to ask these 2 questions :
    1. How to create an new Oracle Database from that dump file ?
    2. Is it alright if i use tool to convert Oracle Database into MySql, or i should do it manually ?
    Thanks alot.

I predict that converting to MySQL will cost your company more as it expands. As you expand managing contention becomes more important - Oracle does this for you. I do not think MySQL does, so you'll have to write more code to deal with this, costing the company money. A big part of making application scalable and reliable is to use stored procedures, how good are MySQL's compared to PL/SQL's. What other features are there that MySQL has that will benefit your company that Oracle doesn't. What do you need to think about as your company expands that need to be taken care of in the database. I would have thought a migration from MySQL to Oracle would be more common to deal with expansion.
As you know "NOTHING" you need to think about what each database can give you for the next 10 years to cope with you businesses potential requirements, and extimate how much it will cost to implement these requirements, then make the decision

    SQL*Plus: Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
Use SQL*Plus to execute SQL, PL/SQL and SQL*Plus statements.
    Usage 1: sqlplus -H | -V
-H             Displays the SQL*Plus version and the
                       usage help.
        -V             Displays the SQL*Plus version.
    Usage 2: sqlplus [ [<option>] [<logon>] [<start>] ]
      <option> is: [-C <version>] [-L] [-M "<options>"] [-R <level>] [-S]
-C <version>   Sets the compatibility of affected commands to the
version specified by <version>.  The version has
                       the form "x.y[.z]".  For example, -C 10.2.0
-F             Enables the failover mode for a RAC environment.
-L             Attempts to log on just once, instead of
                       reprompting on error.
-M "<options>" Sets automatic HTML markup of output.  The options
                       have the form:
HTML [ON|OFF] [HEAD text] [BODY text] [TABLE text]
                       [ENTMAP {ON|OFF}] [SPOOL {ON|OFF}] [PRE[FORMAT] {ON|OFF}]
-R <level>     Sets restricted mode to disable SQL*Plus commands
that interact with the file system.  The level can
                       be 1, 2 or 3.  The most restrictive is -R 3 which
disables all user commands interacting with the
                       file system.
-S             Sets silent mode which suppresses the display of
the SQL*Plus banner, prompts, and echoing of
                       commands.
      <logon> is: (<username>[/<password>][@<connect_identifier>] | /)
                  [AS SYSDBA | AS SYSOPER | AS SYSASM] | /NOLOG | [EDITION=value]
Specifies the database account username, password and connect
identifier for the database connection.  Without a connect
identifier, SQL*Plus connects to the default database.
The AS SYSDBA, AS SYSOPER and AS SYSASM  options are database
        administration privileges.
<connect_identifier> can be in the form of Net Service Name
        or Easy Connect.
          @[<net_service_name> | [//]Host[:Port]/<service_name>]
<net_service_name> is a simple name for a service that resolves
            to a connect descriptor.
Example: Connect to database using Net Service Name and the
database net service name is ORCL.
               sqlplus myusername/mypassword@ORCL
Host specifies the host name or IP address of the database
            server computer.
Port specifies the listening port on the database server.
<service_name> specifies the service name of the database you
            want to access.
Example: Connect to database using Easy Connect and the
                     Service name is ORCL.
               sqlplus myusername/mypassword@Host/ORCL
The /NOLOG option starts SQL*Plus without connecting to a
        database.
The EDITION specifies the value for Application
        Edition

  • What are the privileges required for explain plan in Oracle 11g database

I am facing the problem in doing a explain plan for a view in Oracle 11g database. When I select from the view like this:
    select * from zonewisearpu
It does a select on the view but when I give explain plan like
    explain plan for
    select * from zonewisearpu
I get the error like insufficient privileges.
Please let me know if things are getting missed out as I guess system level privileges are required to execute this.
I hope, my question is clear.
It’s a humble request to revert urgently if possible as I need to complete a task and do not know the way out.
    Regards

Thanks for your reply. I have found out that an explain plan is possible on the user's own objects and is not possible on the granted objects from a different schema. For eg, if I do a explain plan on a view querying on tables from a different view, it would not allow the explain plan to proceed. This could mean that explain plan needs different privileges than just a select.
Requesting for a revert to this.
Here is a simple test case that I have perfomed
    SQL> create user test1 identified by test1;
    User created.
    SQL> create user test2 identified by test1;
    User created.
    SQL> grant connect, resource to test1,test2;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> create table test1.tab1 as select * from v$session;
    Table created.
    SQL> connect test2/test1
    Conencted.
    SQL> show user
    USER is "TEST2"
    SQL>
    SQL> explain plan for
      2  select sid,serial#,status,username from test1.tab1 where username<> '';
    Explained.
    SQL>
So, as can be seen I am able to do a explain plan from user test2 for tables belong to user test1.
As far as privileges are concerned, following is the list
    SQL> select * from dba_role_privs where grantee in ('TEST1','TEST2') order by 1;
    GRANTEE                        GRANTED_ROLE                   ADM DEF
    TEST1                          CONNECT                        NO  YES
    TEST1                          RESOURCE                       NO  YES
    TEST2                          CONNECT                        NO  YES
    TEST2                          RESOURCE                       NO  YES
    SQL>
    SQL> select grantee,owner,table_name,privilege from dba_tab_privs where grantee in ('TEST1','TEST2') order by 1;
    GRANTEE    OWNER      TABLE_NAME           PRIVILEGE
    TEST2      TEST1      TAB1                 SELECT
    SQL>
    SQL>  select * from dba_sys_privs where grantee in ('TEST1','TEST2') order by 1;
    GRANTEE    PRIVILEGE                      ADM
    TEST1      UNLIMITED TABLESPACE           NO
    TEST2      UNLIMITED TABLESPACE           NO

  • How to monitor oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server?

    Hi Experts
How to monitor the Oracle 11g database sessions on Windows 2008 server (other than SQL Developer tool), which procedure or query is taking more time with Java application.

Recently i found this tool- myorasql on the net to monitor the performence of database, easy to setup and check the performence.  i never tested it but seems impresive.  It is free and i think it would be use ful to you.
    http://myorasql.com/
You can also use Quest - Toad or sqlplus if you are very good at sql commands and all dictionary tables or OEM/EM grid if it is configured .

    Hi,
I think these is a problem with your connection pool name, please check it. It's a name of connection pool in BI administrator.
if it's not problem, Can you try my way, replace '@{c1}', '@{c0}' by @1, @2...with 1,2 is a number of column in Criteria.
    It's my template :

  • Forms 6i against 11g database server - certification plan ? [ANSWERED]

Oracle folks, any plan to certify Forms 6i with a patchset against the upcoming version of the database server ? (before 6i ext. support ends end of Jan. 08)
We ported our Forms 6i apps to 10gR2 already but we want to support the 6i version of the c/s application against 11g database server.
    thanx

;) this is what I meant. BTW, this is not just a user forum but it is also monitored by Oracle employees, Forms product managers, etc. So, it is one of the "official" resources if we need an answer from Oracle Corp. This apply to any OTN forum. If you look at Metalink, folks are posting there and on OTN hoping to hear official answers. This is not an issue that you can create an SR. This particular matter was discussed on ODTUG and with OPN, and it was OPN related Oracle Employee's suggestion to post it on OTN forms forum. Thanx anyway.
