  • SOA 11G features?

    Hello!
Where can I find a list of the 11G features or roadmap? Is there such a document?
Also, when is 11G release planned?

No, not yet. Watch ONT on the SOA related pages for upcoming releases. The first upcoming release will be a maintenance release for 10.1.3.

  • Newbie Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g feature availability question

Newbie question here. I am new to Oracle 11g and new to this forum. I ran a search on this question and came up empty so hopefully there is a kind and knowlegable soul wo can help.
I recall in earlier versions of Oracle Enterprise Manager for earlier versions of Oracle there was something called Oracle Enteprise Manager Reporting accessible from the OEM web.
One of its key features was the ability to make custom "Additional Reports". In our current environment this is installed and works great. I don't know if it was an add on to OEM, or if it was built in. It was built a long time ago and I wasn't arround for that build. All I know is it works and it suits our needs.
Well we are now trying to build a new Oracle dev box to replace the current dev environment. We would prefer to not lose any existing functionality we have... and if possible not have to reinvent the wheel. The new box has Oracle 11g.
**Here comes the dumb newbie questions. **
Does Oracle 11g Enterprise Manager support 9i-style Enterprise Manager Reporting and Custom Reports?
Is it called that in 11g or has it been renamed to something else?
Is it it a simple matter of configuration or is it an add on that needs to be installed?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
Wayward Oracle Newbie looking for an Oracle Home

Oracle 11g does not support 9i-style custom reports. There is a new reporting framework - Information Publisher available in Grid Control 10+ versions. The new reporting framework does support custom reports as well. Click on the Reports tab to access the functionality.

  • Trouble Installing the new Oracle BPM 11g Feature Pack (FP4)

I'm trying to install the new feature pack that just came out on and I'm curious if anyone has successfully installed it on a Windows 64 bit machine.
Although the blog post by Jan Kettenis (http://kettenisblogs.blogspot.com/2011/09/tips-for-installing-oracle-bpm-suite.html) was helpful, when I get to the step to run %ORACLE_HOME%/OPatch/opatch napply from the command line, I get the error shown below.

    2.     Execute setup.exe of SOA with administrative privileges (Run as administrator)
    3.     Apply the PS4FP
The issue was because I was installing Jdev in the same Oracle home “C:\Oracle\Middleware” after step 2 before applying the PS4FP. This corrupted the oracle_common inventory
A quick way to verify whether your inventory is corrupted is to check the following files:
    •     C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml (should be more than approx 2500 lines before patching)
    •     C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_SOA1\inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml (should be more than approx 1600 lines before patching)

  • IRM 11g Features

Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding 11g
1 - With the journal that stores client activity, it appears to only allow the recall of 5000 records via webservices, is this changable e.g. where a deployment has a number of users>5000?
2 - When updating rights (with a 3hr refresh period), even where the user synchronises a number of times, the user's rights do not appear to update before the end of the refresh period. Is this the way the system is now configured. I believe previously in 10g, the refresh period equivalent was the maximum time it took to refresh?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1) The searchJournal() operation on the web services limits each request to 5000 records, however by using multiple requests it is possible to get back more results. To get further results you will need to alter the page range parameter to request the next page of results.
For example after getting the first 5000 records you would call searchJournal() again, but this time with the page range 5001-10000.
    pageRange.setFirst(5001);
    pageRange.setLast(10000);
    List<ContextJournalEntry> journalResults = contextOperations.searchJournal(
    null, // no accounts filter
null, // no item codes filter
    timeRange,
    pageRange,
    null); // no sorting details
    2) This shouldn't have changed in 11g. It's not really my area of expertise, I'm sure somebody else will jump in with some suggestions on this one.

    James

  • Oracle 11g - Feature Suggestion

    Hello,
I really do not know where to place this suggestion. However I think it is still worth to post it.
What maybe would be nice to have is a new column type PL/SQL. Since many pl/sql code is stored in columns (CLOB) and execute dynamically. With this approach is possible to check if the code compiles and also editing would be more simple since you can actually compile.
I am not DB expert nor close. Sorry if this is a dumb suggestions.
    best regards,
    Ricardo

Not really, it is unfortunately a common mistake, since you are sort of correct that this happens a lot.
Since many pl/sql code is stored in columns (CLOB) and execute dynamically. But it is still a mistake, since data is stored in tables not code. Code is stored in sub programs - procedures, functions, packages, and views.
    Data

Data is often distinguished from programs. A program is a sequence of instructions that detail a task for the computer to perform. In this sense, data is thus everything that is not program code.

So you shouldn't mix them up like that.

  • How Oracle 11g leverages the features of Multi-core Architectures

    Hi,
I am investigating on the oracle 11g features which leverages the features of Multi-core architectures. Can you please give me some articals/papers/web-links which at least gives an introoductory aspects of this.
Do you have some ideas about oracle features which oracle has provided for DB performance on multicore architectures.
    Regds
    Thomas

    Hi,
here is a link describing the various operations that can benefit from parallel execution. The article is about things that can be done in parallel on a rac cluster but of course you can also run them in parallel on a single SMP server. Most of them are Enterprise Edition features and I think the article does not mention the use of more than one channel for rman backups. Also, you can use datapump with a degree of parallelism (data loads are also mentioned in the article)

  • KPI Filtering in OBIEE 11g

    Hello,
I've successfully installed OBIEE 11.1.1.5 and I'm starting testing the new 11g features.
One problem I've run into is fairly simple in definition: how can I filter a KPI through a watchlist or a strategy map?
I know that in defining watchlists and scorecard one can use the POV bar, and indeed it works perfectly, but when I put the watchlist or scorecard on a dashboard it's not possible to filter KPI results through a filter, and the pov bar control simply doesn't show up.
Can anyone help on this matter?
    Thanks in advance!
    Vincenzo

    Hi ,
As you have mentioned i have created a column prompt with presentation variable as "presyr"
    i have a KPI , where the "target value" should have the value captured in "presyr" . So i have used the expression in target value as @{presyr}
i have put the kpi to a watchlist with "use point of view" option (i cannot use variables here as there is no presentation variable there)
After that i have put prompt and KPIwatchlist to dashboard while putting KPIwatchlist to dashboard i have used "use variable " option and i have selected presentation variable with value as "presyr"
but still the presentation value is not passing to target value in KPI
Did i missed any step please help
    Thanks

  • Peoplesoft Trees as Hierarchial Columns in OBIEE 11g

Sorry for a duplicate posting. Logged in as a normal user with random number. I know how much people hate it. Logged in as myself now.
    Hi,
I have extensively searched using Google or 11g docs but could not find a proper solution to using Peoplesoft trees in form of hierarchial columns in obiee 11g. Can the rpd of obiee 11g be designed to view the Peoplesoft tree structure( as it is in Tree manager in Pplsoft) as hierachial columns in obiee 11g? I am sure hierarchial columns as a 11g feature are not just for visual representation in tree format but also can be viewed in Answers and queried against it,am I right?
Anybody who has worked on trees and OBIEE 11g hierarchial columns? Ahsan/Navin??
    Thanks,
    Dan

I have not used the 11g hierarchical columns for PSoft Trees but I can think of a glaring reason NOT to do this..PERFORMANCE. If I understand correctly, 11g issues a group by and Union as you traverse this type of structure and PeopleSoft trees have a number of tables to represent the actual TREE. I cannot possibly see how this can be effective especially with a large scale BI Apps DW? This is part of the reason the trees get flattened out via the OOTB ETL adaptors for PSoft.

  • Virtual columns support in oracle 11g

    Hi
I created a table with virtual columns using SQL as the APEX GUI didn't support it and I couldn't see the data dictionary of the table in object browser.
Some strange error about my user not having any privileges on the current scheme was displayed also when I tried to view the data. Dropped the table and all is normal again now, was looking forward to using the new 11g feature.
When will virtual columns be supported by APEX?
    Regards
    Adam

    Adam,
    >> and I couldn't see the data dictionary of the table in object browser.
That's not my experience. I created a table in SQL Commands using:
    CREATE TABLE employees (
      id          NUMBER,
      first_name  VARCHAR2(10),
      last_name   VARCHAR2(10),
      salary      NUMBER(9,2),
      comm1       NUMBER(3),
      comm2       NUMBER(3),
      salary1     AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm1/100),2)),
salary2     NUMBER GENERATED ALWAYS AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm2/100),2)) VIRTUAL,
      CONSTRAINT employees_pk PRIMARY KEY (id)
);I was then able to browse the definition and view the data in Object Browser just fine.
    >> Some strange error about my user not having any privileges on the current scheme was displayed also when I tried to view the data.
    I couldn't reproduce this problem.
    >> When will virtual columns be supported by APEX?
I created an application with an Interactive Report on the above table. On the resultant form, I had to change the item type of the virtual columns to Display Only. After that, DML on the form worked just great.

  • Rman backup 11g rel2

    Hello Guys
I was testing rman backup on oracle 11g rel2 , logging time for backup using rman as in 2 ways 1) full database backup
2)full database backup /parallel feature say "section size 200M" in script
i was expecting due to new 11g feature option 2 should complete faster ,but its reverse without using this feature
its running more fast (completing by 4-5 minutes less time)
I also tried taking backup of 1 datafile or 1 tablespace using both the option and also placing backupsets
on different folders/mountpoints ,but result is same
if you had worked on this feature ,please give details what is benefit of using this feature,i can see disadvantage here
    Thanks

so without section size this operation is not actually parallelYes, it's not parallel for datafile, but it parallel for the entire job.
You can analyze the backup log. It should contains the records about opening several channels simultaneously, for instance:
    Starting backup at 26/04/12 23:14:19
channel tape1: starting full datafile backup set
channel tape1: specifying datafile(s) in backup set
    input datafile file number=00049 name=/home/oracle/oradata/...

    channel tape2: starting piece 1 at 26/04/12 23:14:22
channel tape3: starting full datafile backup set
channel tape3: specifying datafile(s) in backup set
All within 3 seconds, and working in parallel...

  • Unable to Connect to Oracle 10gR1 database from JDeveloper 11g using OCI

We are migrating our application from OC4J to Weblogic server. As a part, I am trying to create a database connection in JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.3.0 - Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660) to Oracle 10gR1 database. Previously I had Oracle 10g Client installed in the machine. Created a database connection using OCI driver and when I try to test connect, I got "Test Failed: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path". I searched through Metalink and forums and one suggestion was to install Oracle 11g Client on the machine where Jdeveloper 11g is installed. I installed 11g R1 client and tried the same test connection using OCI driver. Now I am getting "Test failed: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified" error.
The same database connection works good with Thin driver with both Oracle 10g client and 11gR1 client.
Previously I had Jdeveloper 10.1.3.2 and Oracle 10g Client and I was able to connect to database without any errors.
Could you provide me the steps for this or if I missed any steps?
    Steps to Replicate:
For the error: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path
    1) Install JDeveloper 11g (With embedded Weblogic Server)
    2) Install Oracle 10g Client on the same machine
    3) Create a database connection in the "Application Resources --> Connection"
    4) Use OCI driver. Enter the host details about the Oracle 10g R1 database
    5) Test connect to the database.
ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified

Any ideas and pointers would be great.

    1. will my problem get solved after i install oracle 11g client on my machine.Yes, your problem should get solved. The version of the Oracle 11g Client must match the version of the JDev's JDBC drivers. Alternatively you may install an Oracle 11g Client and replace JDev's Oracle JDBC drivers with these from the installed client. Please, read carefully my 1st posting above in this thread.
    2. can i patch JDeveloper 11g on my machine to work with 10g client, or can i do the same with 10g client. You might succeed if you replace JDev's built-in JDBC drivers (which are 11g versions) with 10g versions, but I do not recommend you to try that because JDeveloper 11g and ADF 11g may be using some 11g features that do not exist in 10g drivers, so you may have problems.
I also have PLSql developer installed on my machine and it works well.PL/SQL Developer does not use JDBC drivers, so it is not an relevant example in this case.
My generall recommendation is to use Oracle JDBC Thin drivers. Oracle claimed that OCI drivers had better performance, but this was really true about earlier releases. Current Oracle 11g JDBC Thin drivers offer excellent performance and they offer all the features of the OCI versions (which was not true about earlier releases). In my opinion, the most important disadvantage of Oracle JDBC OCI drivers is that most versions have native memory leaks so all the RAM would get consumed after long application execution. The fact that WebLogic Server does not offer Oracle JDBC OCI drivers by default anymore says that Oracle discourages the usage of the OCI driver in favour of Thin driver.
