11g R1 or 10g R2?

Hi,
We are starting a new project and the chosen database is Oracle 10g R2 on AIX. For the ETL, we have decoded to use the OWB. The confusion is in choosing between the OWB versions 10g R2 and 11g R1.
If anyone in this forum used the 11g version (with 10g database preferably), I would like to know your experience with 11g.
Are there any significant issues with OWB 11g? Any of those are major ones?
Did you face any compatibility issues?
Did you have problems with workflow integration?
It will be great if you all can share a bit of your experiecne.
Thanks.

Thanks. What to use depends on various factors:
1. What level of expertise do you/your company has in OWB. i,e if the guys are well conversant with version 10 then i would advise using 10gR2 as it is useful to know 10gR2 before jumping to 11g.
2. If you have enough time at ur disposal then go for 11g as it will be a learning curve and will stand good considering that the next version of owb will be on top of 11g technology.
3.Are you intending to exploit any 11g features or stick with 10gR2 features.
4. What is the complexity of the mappings and how soon do u intend to migrate as at some point of time u will ahve to migrate to 11g and rather than doing the hard work twice once while dveloping in 10gR2 and the migrating to 11g i would rather develop on 11g.
So i think all of the above factors will help you to determine which version to use.
!0gR2 has been stabilised over a period of time and 11g is still naive and will be sued and oracle will continue to fix the problems over the next few months/years but having said that many of 10gR2 problems have been or supposed to be fixed in 11g.
My bet: go for 11g.

  • Why you want to be on 11g and not 10g on your Siebel upgrade large database

    Hi All,
Just realized the issue of adding new non nullable columns that normally is a huge issue on Siebel upgrades should go away with 11g since the way this is handled is totally changed. Other than tables like s_audit_item which has a CLOB column should allow these columns to be added very fast.
This is good reason to go with 11g instead of 10g if you are upgrading Siebel.
When you add a column, the initial value of each row for the new column is null. If
you specify the DEFAULT clause for a NOT NULL column, then the default value is
stored as metadata but the column itself is not populated with data. However,
subsequent queries that specify the new column are rewritten so that the default value
is returned in the result set.
This optimized behavior differs from earlier releases, when as part of the ALTER
TABLE operation Oracle Database updated each row in the newly created column with
the default value, and then fired any AFTER UPDATE triggers defined on the table.
However, the optimized behavior is subject to the following restrictions:
    ■ The table cannot have any LOB columns. It cannot be index-organized, temporary,
or part of a cluster. It also cannot be a queue table, an object table, or the container
    table of a materialized view.
    ■ The column being added cannot be encrypted

  • What are all difference between 11g Mediator and 10g Oracle service bus.

    hi all ,
Apart from SCA concept , storing location
is thr any other difference between 11g Mediator and 10g Oracle service bus ?
    thx in advance..

11g introduces the SCA architecture for building the service infrastructure.
    SOA 11g uses:-
    1. Uses the weblogic Server and BEA Aqualogic Service Bus (ALSB) for the Oracle Service Bus.
    2. BPEL uses scalable DOM with reduced memory usage.
    3. New adapters and leverage for Java 2 Connector Architecture (J2CA)
    4. BAM finally ported from .Net to J2EE and is part of the service infrastructure
    5. Oracle Web Services Management built into SOA 11g service infrastructure
    6. New adapters and leverage for Java 2 Connector Architecture (J2CA). Tighter integration with E-Business Suite & large payload support.
    7. Business Rules in SOA 10g business rules are managed using the Rules Author & in SOA 11g business rules are managed using JDeveloper and SOA composer

  • OSB 11g,BPEL PM 10g -Does these products has in-built Registry & Discovery

I am looking for options to evaluate Registry and Discovery features for Services developed using OSB 11g, BPEL PM 10g Products. Does these products have these features in-built?
From the product documentation, I noted OSR will provide these features and need to integrate it with OSB, BPEL PM. Without having OSR, can Registry and Discovery features available in OSB 11g, BPEL PM 10g

You have to have a registry in place to manage the service endpoints and have BPEL/OSB discovering them at runtime. BPEL/OSB does not have any inbuilt registry support but they can interact with a registry. Oracle Service Bus can interact with any UDDI 3.0 compliant registry including Oracle Service Registry. h1. Using Different Releases and Versions of Export
Whenever you are moving data between different releases of the Oracle database, the following basic rules apply:
The Import utility and the database to which data is being imported (the target database) must be the same version.
The version of the Export utility must be equal to the earliest version of the source or target database.
For example, to create an export file for an import into a later release database, use a version of the Export utility that is equal to the source database. Conversely, to create an export file for an import into an earlier release database, use a version of the Export utility that is equal to the version of the target database.
In general, you can use the Export utility from any Oracle8 release to export from an Oracle9i server and create an Oracle8 export file. See Creating Oracle Release 8.0 Export Files from an Oracle9i Database.

  • USER_DEPENDENCIES view in oracle 11g and oracle 10g are different?

I have tested oracle 10g and oracle 11g. And I found some different behavior in the user_dependencies view between two oracle version.
In the oracle 10g, whatever referenced object is populated in the user_dependencies view. In the oracle 11g, however, only valid referenced objects are populated in it.
For example, a package, pac_1, references table, ref_tab_1, and package, ref_pac_2. After ref_tab_1 is dropped and ref_pac_2 is invalid, I query to user_dependencies.
    sql> select referenced_name, referenced_type from user_dependencies where name = 'pac_1'.
In oracle 10g, the result is like the following,
    < referenced_type > , < referenced_name >
    non-existent , ref_tab_1
    package , ref_pac_2
In oracle 11g, the result is not showing non-existed object nor invlid object like the following,
    no rows selected
Is that the TRUE or do I missed some when I installed database or created database in 11g?
Is there a way to make the behavior of user_dependencies like it in 10g which shows all the referenced objets?

  • Explain plan - lower cost but higher response time in 11g compared to 10g

    Hello,
I have a strange scenario where 'm migrating a db from standalone Sun FS running 10g RDBMS to a 2-Node Sun/ASM 11g RAC env. The issue is with response time of queries -
    In 11g Env:
    SQL> select last_analyzed, num_rows from dba_tables where owner='MARKETHEALTH' and table_name='NCP_DETAIL_TAB';
    LAST_ANALYZED NUM_ROWS
    11-08-2012 18:21:12 3413956
    Elapsed: 00:00:00.30
    In 10g Env:
    SQL> select last_analyzed, num_rows from dba_tables where owner='MARKETHEALTH' and table_name='NCP_DETAIL_TAB';
    LAST_ANAL NUM_ROWS
    07-NOV-12 3502160
Elapsed: 00:00:00.04If you look @ the response times, even a simple query on the dba_tables takes ~8 times. Any ideas what might be causing this? I have compared the XPlans and they are exactly the same, moreover, the cost is less in the 11g env compared to the 10g env, but still the response time is higher.
BTW - 'm running the queries directly on the server, so no network latency in play here.
    Thanks in advance

  • WAY TO IMPORT DATA FROM 11G DATABASE TO 10G DATABASE?

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to take an full export dump of an Oracle database and import it fully to a 10g database.
I have never touched 11G until now and would like to know whether the 11G expdp will be downward
compatible so that I can use the dump file(created by 11G expdp) to import it to 10G(using 10d impdp).
Or if it is not possible, can you please brief me the steps I should follow here?
Note: I have only 11G installed in this server.
    Regards
    Satish

Oracle's Data Pump (expdp) utility has a VERSION parameter. Here is an excerpt from the documentation:
    VERSION
    Default: COMPATIBLE
    Purpose
Specifies the version of database objects to be exported. This can be used to create a dump file set that is compatible with a previous release of Oracle Database. Note that this does not mean that Data Pump Export can be used with versions of Oracle Database prior to 10.1. Data Pump Export only works with Oracle Database 10g release 1 (10.1) or later. The VERSION parameter simply allows you to identify the version of the objects being exported.
    Syntax and Description
    VERSION={COMPATIBLE | LATEST | version_string}
The legal values for the VERSION parameter are as follows:
        * COMPATIBLE - This is the default value. The version of the metadata corresponds to the database compatibility level. Database compatibility must be set to 9.2 or higher.
        * LATEST - The version of the metadata corresponds to the database version.
        * version_string - A specific database version (for example, 11.1.0). In Oracle Database 11g, this value cannot be lower than 9.2.
Database objects or attributes that are incompatible with the specified version will not be exported. For example, tables containing new datatypes that are not supported in the specified version will not be exported.
Here is a link to the documentation.
    Hope this helps!

  • BPA suite 11g and Jdev 10g

    hello,
BPA11G is also compatible with JDEV10 ? I can use Jdev 10g with BPA suite 11g or not ? or we must install Jdev 11g ? (send a document about this)
    BR,

    Hi,
please install the JDeveloper 11g and apply the newest "BPA Extension for JDeveloper". Install the BPA Extension using the JDeveloper Update Center. From the JDeveloper menu choose Help > Check for Updates. Browse and pick the pcbpel_bundle.zip found in the Oracle BPA Suite 11g Addons.
It is necessary to keep the JDeveloper and BPA Suite version consistent, especially for the major releases 10 or 11. This is because in 11g a BPEL process is part of a SOA Composite, which means the technical concept has been changed as well.
    Best regards,
