11g Release 2 installation on Oracle Linux 6

Aloha!
I I'am installing 11g Release 2 Database on Oracle Linux 6 but i stumble on this problem, that i cant install the said application, either I,m running the wrong file or i downloaded the wrong installation kit for OL 6.
1) I downloaded "Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86" installer. Extracted it and paste it on Oracle Linux 6 OS.
2) I access the directory where i paste the said installer and run "runInstaller" file and i'm having a prompt saying "Permission denied".
Could it be that the installation kit I downloaded is not for Oracle Linux 6. Is there something that I miss thats why I'm having this prompt?
Thanks in advance.
Hades,

Hi Dude,
I did manage to install OLE 5 and installed successfully 11gR2 on it. I'm on the process of creating an instance on the said database, but i stumble on several errors;
1. ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
after clicking OK i will receive this error;
2. ORA-01017: invalid username/password; log on denied
and after;
3. ORA-01012: not logged on
This prompts appears during the creation on instance. Please refer below for reference.

  • Install Oracle Database 11g release 2 on Oracle Linux 6.0?

I'm running Oracle Linux Server 6.0, and am trying to install Oracle Database 11g release 2 on it. The installation is failing because it says I need "glibc-2.3.4-2.41", but I think the OS came with glibc 2.12.
How do I upgrade glibc on this machine to glibc-2.3.4-2.41?

  • 32 Bit Installation or Oracle Linux and Oracle Database 10g

I have an old E-Machine that I wanted to put Oracle Linux and Oracle Database Express 11G on. I was just wanting to do some testing and development on the system. I'm pretty sure the machine is 32bit.
I just burned a copy of 32 bit Oracle Linux onto a CD. Is there a version of Oracle Database Express that will run on it?
It seems like there is only a 64 bit version of Oracle Express Database 11g. Is Oracle Database Express 10g installable on Oracle Linux 32 bit?
Let me know! Thanks in an advance.

One (or two) caveats with the 10g version, XE can not be patched and the 10.2.0.1 XEs were created before the current daylight savings time rules went into effect.
If you have access to My Oracle Support there is a method to get updated timezone files for the oracle binaries, you need at least version 4 of the DST files. I've got the MOS docIDs somewhere let us know if needed and I'll dig 'em up.

    Hi,
Make sure you extract both part in same directory, Do not separate it. Example for 11.2.0.3,
    As oracle user
cd /tmp (Make sure your directory have enough space).
    unzip p10404530_112030_LINUX_1of7.zip
    unzip p10404530_112030_LINUX_2of7.zip
Open the xmanager (xstart) or directly from the Gnome.
    1. Test if Display is ok by issue command xclock or xlogo
      $ xlogo
    2. Run the installer cd /tmp/database
         $ ./runInstaller

  • Link about Content Portlet Suite 11g Release installation guide

    Hi All,
Does anyone know the link to get the installation guide for Content Portlet Suite 11g release.

    Hi
I too had this issue initially but in my case I had missed out on the following steps :
    1.
From a command-line, launch the WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST), for example:
    WLS-HOME/as11r1wc/common/bin/wlst.sh
    Note:
The WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) is a command-line scripting environment that you can use to create, manage, and monitor WebLogic Server domains. Refer to the Oracle Fusion Middleware Oracle WebLogic Scripting Tool document for more information.
    2.
After the WebLogic Scripting Tool initializes, type connect() and press Enter.
    3.
You are prompted to enter the username, password and Admin server URL. Enter these values and press Enter.
    4.
Once connected to the server, run the following command to register your WSDL:
    registerWSRPProducer('webcenter','Provide_Any_Name_for_WSDL_Handle','Your_WSDL>',timeout=500)
    For example:
    registerWSRPProducer('webcenter','StellentWSRP','http://Host_Name:Port/cps/portlets/wsrp1?WSDL',timeout=500)
    Referencing Your Content Server
The following WLST commands should be used to create, delete, and reset an Oracle Content Server connection:
    Note:
The custom managed server on which CPS is deployed and the WLS_Spaces server must be restarted after executing the following commands for the changes to take effect.
Run the following WLST command to create an Oracle Content Server connection:
    createJCRContentServerConnection('CPS_Application_Name', 'CSConnection', socketType='socket', serverHost='Content_Server_Host', serverPort='Content_Server_Port')
For example (if the CPS application name is StellentPortlets):
    createJCRContentServerConnection('StellentPortlets', 'CSConnection', socketType='socket', serverHost='192.0.2.250', serverPort='4444')
Run the following WLST command to delete an Oracle Content Server connection:
    deleteConnection(appName='CPS_Application_Name', name='CSConnection')
Run the following WLST command to reset an existing Oracle Content Server connection:
    setJCRContentServerConnection('CPS_Application_Name', 'CSConnection', socketType='socket', serverHost='New_Content_Server_Host', serverPort='New_Content_Server_Port')
Run the following WLST command to list the existing Oracle Content Server connections:
    listJCRContentServerConnections(appName='CPS_Application_Name')
See if you too have missed to follow the above mentioned steps and if so then complete it to see if the issue still persists .
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

VNC certainly has it's beauty and advantages. I was under the impression though that the OP is trying to run OUI on a local server console that is runnig a graphical desktop. If that wasn't the case, VNC was certainly a preferable option.I have not done a local GUI console installation of Oracle in years. In fact, I'm known to start foaming at the mouth when discovering a server running X on the console, disabling it interactively, preventing initlevel 5 from ever loading X again, and leave comments of my disgust in inittab. ;-)
If I'm not mistaken then the vncserver does not need to have the X server running since the necessary support is built-in. The installation of X libraries is probably still required, but I'm not sure.It needs a X display manager. And xterm. twm does fine as display manager. Small and minimalistic. Not the greatest of ideas loading an entire Gnome desktop in VNC.
Btw, Apple Mac OS X provides seamless X11 support and uses VNC for screen sharing and even for installing a system remotely. If you use Apple Mac to access a remote Linux system, using ssh with X forwarding is very convenient as it works right out of the box without having to configure the remote Linux server.Nice. OS/X has come a long way the last few years. I recall a time when they pretended there was no "stinking" command line. :-)

Trying to register the Virtualbox kernel using DKMS = FAILED

It seems that I need to install DKMS and update the yum repository then proceed for the VM installation.
Please tell me the method for this as I could not figure out any method to resolve this so far.

  • Server Hardware for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with Oracle Spatial

    Hi ,
We're to set up an Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise with Oracle Spatial.
Can you provide me the possible Server Hardware CPU / Memory specs , number of CPUs,type of OS and teh Model, for Spatial which a million users hits the database via a webservice?
The vendor suggested us SDD instead of HDD, any performance hike on this?
Budget seems to okay but I think Exadata will be too dear.
Your insights is much appreciated.Anything relating to setting up a server with spatial is greatly appreciated.
P/S: Been a programmer and don't knwo much about server hardware specs.

    It depends.
Seriously - before anyone can offer anything but generalities here you need to really define exactly what you expect the database to deliver.
In general however, I will throw out these questions and ideas...
For instance - you say a million users "hit" the database (via a web service). Is that WFS, WMS, KML or ???
Over - how long? A year? A month? A minute? A million hits over a year spread out evenly is only about 2 per minute.
And what is a hit? A single random record? Or about 10,000 records in the same spatial area... or? And for each record - are you returning simple point data - or hugely complex polygons with thousands of vertexes each?
How does this software work? Is it custom - or is it well known? Does it really query the database for every map (I assume it is a map service) feature - or does it read an area once and cache it in the middle tier? Or does it do something really smart and use cached tiles for static data - overlayed with vectors for dynamic data?
And although you say Oracle Spatial - are you really using Spatial - or just Locator functions (less processing in general)? And if spatial - are you doing raster in the db - or 3D analysis - or other special functionality?
SSD vs. HDD. - If you can buy a server with more RAM than the data set size (pretty easy these days) - and you do mostly reads (almost always the case for a map app) - buy a small cheap array of RAID'd HDD's - internal to the server is fine. Once the data is read into RAM - the HDD's do basically nothing.
Server CPU and memory. Amount - see above. CPU Speed (use performance benchmarks - not GHz numbers) AND memory speed (often overlooked) - buy as fast as possible. Why? You pay for licenses by the core (2 cores per license for x64). And HW is MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper than Oracle licenses. Plan to upgrade HW every year if necessary to avoid buying more licenses (sounds crazy - but it is much cheaper).
This may seem like a lot - but these questions are just the tip of the iceberg. I have been in charge of spec'ing, building, and programming spatial systems now for about 20 years, so I have a pretty good idea of how to do enterprise scale computing on a Ramon-noodle budget.
Smart clean software is your friend - don't ask the HW to do anything unless absolutely necessary (cache results and reuse as much as possible), and you can get crazy performance from minimal hardware.

    Thanks.

    Becky,
You need not do any thing additional to have EM running in the OBI 11g instance. Although it is a deployed JEE application, if your Weblogic Server (WLS) is started and up and running then your EM Console should also be up and running.
You say that you are doing everything from the command line. So, start the Weblogic Server then navigate to http://< your server name> : 7001/console
If that comes up then go to
    http://<your server name>:7001/em
That is your EM Fusion Console and it should come up as well.
Don't mess with the XML file directly.

    So ...
After a lot of searches, it was necessary a help from a Weblogic Administrator to find out what was going on with the installation process. The problem was with the memory allocation to the Weblogic VM. The process EMGC_OMS1 could not be started cos it was not possible to create a VM into SERVERADMIN.
With just my DB experience I could not find any logs besides emctl.log and that one that it's shown in OEM Installler interface. The Weblogic Administrator was browsing the HOME where the Weblogic was installed and he found logs that showed the error telling where the problem was. Even downloading the OEM 12c 32bit, it was allocated memory to the java as if it was 64bit. The solution was decreasing the values of memory and clicking in Retry. So, my OEM Cloud Control 12c it's working now.

  • Basic installation: X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3

    Hi All,
I created Oracle VM and installed Linux 6.3 as operation system. First try with X Windows and X11 shows, that I can not start X-Appse.g. xclock --> command not found!
How can I correct install oderwise configure X11 for Oracle Linux 6.3
    Regards,
    Moh

I guess Oracle VM VirtualBox and Oracle VM can be misleading. Oracle should better call it Oracle Virtualbox, without VM in the name. Fyi: http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/virtualization/oraclevm/index.html
Anyway, a default installation of Oracle Linux or RHEL 6 does not install the X Window system and a graphical user desktop. If you want to run X11 applications you have 2 options:
    - Use remote access from a system that has X Window server installed
    - Install X Window and a window manager on your virtual machine.
If this is a new installation and you use it locally then I suggest to re-install the system and customize the package selection. You should see a prompt "customize now" during the installation where you can select the Desktop packages.
