11gig of undo files

I just found over 11gig of undo files on my system drive going back as far as 2004 for songs that were done and backed up long ago. Dumped 'em and freed up lots of hd space. I had no idea all this data was being stored!

Oh - _I know what you meen - the Logic undo data doesnt get deleted when u quit logic - so that you can still undo when opening a song a year later...I Still never liked the undo in logic - as the undo only undoe's certaini features in Logic (no Fader undo's etc.)...
You can delete your undu data manually by going to the EDIT menu and selecting "Delete Undo History"
The sample editor Undo you can choose where to store - and how many steps should be kept in the history - go to Prefs - Audio - Sample Editor - There u choose "Number of undo steps" u can set it to auto store in the song folder or specify a global folder to store the sample editor undos in...
To bad one cannot select a global undo folder for storing the main undoes
The global undo folder is : Home/Library/Application Support/Logic/Undo/Undo Data -
Guess one could try to put an alias there an have the actual folder of undus stores somewhere else

  • Undo file Having huge read average time more than 20ms

    Please,
    I'm working on oracle 10g, windows server 2003.
    From the file I/O stats, I found that the Average read I/O from the undo files is more than 20ms, this contrast with other files where the same I/O metric is less then 0.5ms.
    Can someone give me a clue?
    thanks a lot

    I assume 'undo files' you mentioned means datafiles of undo tablespace: Yes
    How did you determined the I/O metric ? What tools used?, the following script
    column FILE_NAME format a30
    column PHYRDS format 999999,999
    column PHYWRTS format 999999,999
    column READTIM format 999999,999
    column "READ AVG (ms)" format 999.99
    column "TOTAL I/O" format 999999,999
    select
    FILE_NAME,
    PHYRDS,
    READTIM,
    PHYWRTS,
    READTIM / (PHYRDS + 1) "READ AVG (ms)",
    PHYRDS + PHYWRTS "TOTAL I/O"
    from
    V$FILESTAT a,
    DBA_DATA_FILES b
    where
    a.FILE# = b.FILE_ID
    order by
    6 DESC;
    Are other files on the same storage as undo datafiles?, all files datafiles,redo files, cotrol files are on the same storage.
    How are your disk storage configured?, it may be a RAID X technology, because the level is unknown.
    By default our client cannot accept to move the undo file to another storage, that's why all data files are stored on the same drive.
    So what can cause the undo read average time to be so high?
    Thanks again

    Hi,
    Yesterday there had been a power-problem and when i want to startup the database i got the following error:
    ORA-01122: database file 2 failed verification check
    ORA-01110: data file 2: '/.../LDPLM000/UNDOTBS01.DBF'
    ORA-01200: actual file size of 1589120 is smaller than correct size of 1592960
    Blocks
    This is an oracle 10.2g and it is not in archivelog mode.
    There is a dump from yesterday but we don't have rman.
    It is 'only' the file of the undo-tablespace.
    How can i solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need to undo file renaming upon import

    Help!
    I didn't see the tiny box checked that re-named hundreds of images when I imported them.
    I need to undo this and get the files names back.
    Anyone know how?

    Thanks!  Don't know if I'll go this direction or not, I don't think my files need any rebuilding, etc, but was just curious if I could work between bridge and lightroom! Sometimes a lot eaiser to go to bridge, do your thing then have it be compatible with LR!
    Quick and Dirty!:)

  • Unable to delete undo file at OS level

    Hi Friends,
    Database: 10.2.0.3
    OS: windows 2003 server
    I dropped undo tablespace using
    drop tablespace undotbs1 including contents and datafiles; command.
    but still the files are residing in the drive. when i tried to delete them manually its saying the file is used by another process.
    is there anyway to delete the file without bouncing the database?

    Before Dropping an Undo Tablespace U need to switch to an another Undo tablespace
    like
    SQL> create undo tablespace undotbs2 datafile ‘/u01/oradata/decipher/undotbs2_01.dbf’ size 1024m autoextend on next 256m maxsize 10240m;
    SQL> alter system set undo_tablespace= UNDOTBS2 scope=both;
    SQL> drop tablespace UNDOTBS1 including contents and datafiles;
    Dropping the old undo tablespace may give ORA-30013 error: undo tablespace ‘%s’ is currently in use. This error indicates that you need to wait for the undo tablespace to become OFFLINE. Initially, on switching to the new UNDO tablespace, the old UNDO tablespace will go into PENDING OFFLINE status until the active incomplete transactions are finished.
    Iam sure ur Datafile will be get dropped ..

  • Undo file corruption(Undo segments)

    Hello Friends
    My database in archivelog mode(Oracle 9i). What if because of media failure my undo segments got corrupted ?
    Can I recover the database upto failer point ?
    Regards
    Sunil Kumar

    As Maran mentioned already that if you have sufficient good backups, there wont be any issues with the recovery. In addition to this, search over metalink for the use of the event *10015*. This would help to identify the corrupted undo segments.

    If you open task manager and right click on the Explorer and choose restart, does it fix the problem?
    What Anti Virus software are you running as this can also be causing it.

  • Database restore without temp, undo and control files.

    Hi All,
    You might found this question silly but I don't know so asking this question here.
    I have cold back up of the database. Now, I want create clone of that database, but I have some different paths for the DBFs so I will create new control file after restoring the database.
    Now, I know that I don't need control files and tempfiles to be restored. I have 10 undo files in backup but on the new clone database I don't need all 10. I want only 5. So can I do the restoration without undo , temp and control file and later on add undo and temp?? and if yes then tell me that can I add them at mount level??
    This is my first restore, Please guide me its very urgent

    Therefore, we do a RECOVER with a CANCEL to simulate an Incomplete Recovery.Completely agree with you Hemant. And the links you've provided,i've gone through many times. Excellent description.
    I just wanted to know in above(OP's) scenario if he has complete cold backup(includes online redo logs), does he really need open reset logs or any recovery?
    Regards!no , if you have cold backup with online redo log files then i don't think so you need to open database in resetlogs.Resetlog is always after incomplete recovery or recovery using backup controlfile or you dont have redo logs.
    I am completely agree with you that with given scenario for the cold backup undo tablespace would not be part of recovery and you can
    -offline drop undo tablespace file
    -create another one undo tablespace and its undo datafile
    -point spfile to that newly undo tablespace
    I think Aman is saying in the context of restore and recover online database where undo tablespace create a vital role in database recovery, the undo blocks roll back the effects of uncommitted transactions previously applied by the rolling forward phase.

  • I have upgraded to 10.6.8 on my macbook pro and find I don't have pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 only.  How can I access all my pages files in Snow Leopard?

    I have upgraded to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard from Leopard on my macbook pro and now cannot read and write pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 and above.  I don't have a pages application. Where can I get pages for snow leopard?

    It's been so long since I bought my macbook pro in August of 2010, but I do remember the iwork disk that had pages, numbers, and keynote on it, but I can't find the disk in my closet.  I did not realize that when I took my computer in to the genius bar to upgrade to Snow Leopard, and then to download Yosemite, that I would lose these applications.  I had no reason to open pages when I emptied my hard drive to upgrade to Snow Leopard, so I don't know if I kept iwork when I upgraded to Snow Leopard at the Genius Bar.  I had file vault on with my external drive on, and since removed it before the upgrade, but now all my documents are unable to open on my external drive.  ****.  So now the new problem is how do I undo file vault in a new OS 10.10 when encoded in 6.8?  Can I take my external drive in to Genius Bar?
    I bought my macbook pro at Best Buy, but can't remember if iwork came with this computer, or with an older mac I bought.  Can anyone check to see if I have a valid key code, and will insertion of an iwork disc allow me to use pages with Yosmite?

  • Can I get back a file that logic deletes... Well I did but I had thought I saved the file under a different name?

    Hi. I have been using logic pro on the computer at music school... A Mac pro... Anyway, I was recording a friends band. W got some awesome takes down. I was then doing a little post, saved the file as one name and then stared working on it under a new file name. Anyway, logic came up with a splash that asked if I would like to delete the original file, and I clicked yes, as I thought I had saved the session under a different name just earlier. Anyway, I lost everything. Ok... Shirt I thought... But I managed to find everything in the recycle bin. Except one awesome take of an awesome song, I am a little bit heart broken as I've gone though the sessions undo file in quite some detail, but I seem to have lost it. I have access to the file on my Mac at home (MacBook pro, and logic express 8 I think) cool that I can open logic pro files in logic express, but anyway. Anyone want to offer me any solace? I think a solution might be too much to ask for....

    If you were using OSX 10.7 then you could go back to a previous version, but you have overwritten the file.

  • Undo tablespace currupt and no clean backup

    Hello,
    We are facing critical problem with database. We have not any clean backup and database in no archive log mode. Suddenly database is shutdown and when we are trying to open database it is giving error:-
    ORA-01172: recovery of thread 1 stuck at block 350230 of file 3
    ORA-01151: use media recovery to recover block, restore backup if needed
    File 3 is Undo file.
    Is there any way to open database?
    Thanks in advance and please reply us ASAP.

    1) First, follow Howardjr recomendations and allways do a backup first.
    2) Open a SR with Metalink to help with your problem
    3) If you want to try something here are some options, but never skip the point 1 previously explained.
    Well, you have two possible scenarios, one supported other unsupported.
    This is an inconsistency issue..
    Solution
    ============
    *1]Supported Solution:*
    Restore-Incomplete recovery the DB from backup or rebuild the DB using an export dump.
    *2]Internal (Not-supported) Solution:*
    Update undo$ to change the status$ = 1 (undo segment is dropped) for the corrupted undo segment.
    Caution:
    This is NOT a supported solution. Therefore ensure that a full database cold backup is taken bbefore doing this data-dictionary patching.
    Steps to do the patching:
    1) First ensure that a full database backup is taken.
    2) Modify/add the following parameters in initSID.ora:
    undo_management=manual
    job_queue_processes =0
    aq_tm_processes=0
    systemtrig_enabled=false
    3) Shutdown
    4) Startup restrict pfile
    5) set transaction use rollback segment system;
    if set transaction above fails, then not to proceed further.
    6) Update undo$ to change the status$ = 1 (undo segment is dropped) for
    the corrupt undo segment.
    update undo$ set status$ = 1
    where us# = <'undo segment id'>
    and ts#=<'tablespace id'>
    and file#=<'file id'>
    and block# = <'block id'>
    and status$=2;
    or
    update undo$ set status$ = 1
    where name = <'corrupt undo segment name'>
    and status$=2;
    This will update only 1 row. Rollback the update if more than 1 row is updated.
    7) Commit;
    8) Shutdown abort
    9) Set back in init.ora parameters modified in Step 2.
    Startup restrict
    10) Drop the corrupt undo tablespace using command:
    drop tablespace <corrupt undo tablespace name> including contents;
    11) Create new undo tablespace.
    In initSID.ora, set undo_management=auto, undo_tablespace=<'new undo tablespace name'>
    Restart the instance.
    12) Take a backup.
    *Parameter offlinerollback_segments is not useful:*
    Trying to drop the corrupt undo segment or the undo tablespace by setting parameters undo management=manual and offline_rollback_segments in initSID.ora will fails with error: ORA-00600 [ktssdrp1].
    To see the information about the corrupt block use this query:
    select us#, name, ts#, file#, block#,status$ from undo$
    where (ts#, file#, block#) not in
    (select ts#, file#, block# from seg$ where type# in (1,10)) and status$ > 1;I had the same problem some time ago, and the unsupported solution works great, but never try it without a full backup first.
    Cheers,
