It would highly depend on the distro that you are using. You would get the packages either from the media of the software or from the online repository provided by the vendor. For example, for Red Hat, it's Red Hat Network(RHN) which is a paid site. You didn't tell us the distro that you are using but if you are using Oracle's Enterprise Linux , you can get the packages using their Public YUM .

Oracle 11gr2 database installation using ASM on standalone Server.
Hello Guys,
Environment is as below:
Oracle 11gr2
ASM
Enterprise Linux Server release 5.5 (Carthage)
I never did oracle 11gr2 installation using ASM and I need to install Oracle software on standalone server and then create database 11g Release 2.
I have following doubts:
1. Do we need to install Grid infrastructure software for standalone server as well ?
2. Does Grid Infrastructure software comes separately or alongwith DB software ?
3.Is Grid software same for RAC and standalone server setup ?
4.Do we need to create user Grid for installation of Grid for standalone server as well ?
can anyone give me full steps from scratch ?
Regards,

11gR2 Database Installation with ASM - NOT RAC
Hi ,
Im littel bet confused about the "Grid Infrastructure" in 11gR2.
In oracle 10gR2 i had to install oracle software twice.
1. one for the rdbms instance and the second software on for the ASM instance.
2. Then from the asm home i run dbca and choose "configure automatic storage management" and continue with the installation.
3. Finally i run dbca from the rdbms home and attached the dabs to the asm.
11gR2 intreduce the "Grid Infrastructure" also asm with for non-rac installation .
I would like to know if i still need to install twice the oracle software (once for the asm home and second for the rdbms home) and
only then continue with the "Grid Infrastructure" , or the : "Grid Infrastructure" already contain the asm software , for the asm home
ThanksIs that true that you have to install a separate set of binaries for ASM and one for the RDBMS. I don't think it is in either 10g or 11gr1.
I do know that in 11gr2 you only need one home for the ASM_HOME and CRS_HOME which saves one installation.

I have no idea how to fix the TCP connectivity issue with the subnet "192.168.1.0". Some posts wrote that could be a firewall issue. Are there any other causes ?

Can you use 11gR2 database for 11gR1 standalone?
Do to the fact that Oracle has not released 11gR2 standalone on windows, our users want us to install the 11gR1 OWB components
I would like to keep the database version 11gR2, so installed the standalone 11gR1 on the server.
When I try to create the workspace I get the following error
Process element SeedData.xml 99%
(X)
The warehouse builder workspace owner installation failed on user OWBSYS
INS0017: Installation of the seeded data failed.MMM1064: Value 11.2 not valid in domain VERSION2
So can we install the 11gR1 repository in the 11gR2 database? Having lots of trouble finding the certification info in the new metalink..the OWB 11gR1 and 10gR2 versions are not certified with database 11gR2 today.
Cheers

Hi Friends,
11gR2 Db
OEL 5.4
We are planning to install RAC for 11gR2 database, for a 2-Node configuration.
Is 11gR2 certified for RAC? Can you give me links on how to install it?
Another question is....Is it possible to install two(2) database RAC instance sharing on the 2-node configuration?
I want to install DEV and PROD RAC instance on the target 2-node config.
Thanks a lot,
Ms KHi Ms K,
RTFM: The installation section is really good:
Grid Infrastructure (Clusterware): http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/to_pdf?pathname=install.112/e10812.pdf
RAC Installation: http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/to_pdf?pathname=install.112/e10813.pdf
Also the installer checks a lot of things, so a lot easier than 10g.
If that is not enough, have a search in support.oracle.com for RAC Starter Kits.
Even if you do not have access to ULN (Unbreakable Linux network) you can install the oracle-validated package (this is referred to in the installation section).
As a update server use public-yum.oracle.com and the oracle-validated can be found under oss.oracle.com
To your second question: Yes it is possible to have 2 RAC database instances on the same cluster (sharing the 2-node configuration).

Problem Oracle 10g database Installation on Windows 2003 Server
Hi All,
I am trying to face some problem to install oracle 10g database on windows 2003 server with service pack 2. Once I start to installation it give me an error "Error in writing to directory 'c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\orainstall2004xxx'. Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 45MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue"
I double-insured that there is enough disk-space and I am also in the Administrators-Group.
Please guide me for the above problem although I have done oracle 9i database installation with the same configuration.

Do not stop the DBCA to do this.
Go to Start->Control Panel-> Services -> oracleserviceyoursid and start the service. That will get you through that error.

Issue after succesfully loading xml into 11gr2 database
Hi All,
I'm currently experiencing an issue with a project I'm working on at a customer:
I have succesfully loaded multiple xml files into the Oracle 11gr2 database using sqlloader and since the intention is to be able to query the loaded data, it needs
to be transferred from the xml table to a 'normal' table, which also went ok.
Since most of the XML files contain multiple records, i've used the fn:string-join option in the insert into....select statement and used a ; as delimiter.
This is where I've encountered the thing that I can't seem to find a solution for.
When there's multiple records in the xml file it inserts all the records into one record.
So say i've got an xml file containing info for a bunch of electricity meters consisting of the fields brand, supplier, type for 3 records (actual files can be uploaded if neccesary)
inserting the data by using the above construction gives me the following data in the destination table:
Brand
BrandA;BrandB;BrandC
Supplier
Company1;Company2;Company3
Type
Type1;Type2;Type3
How do I split up the above info so that every separate record from the imported xml file lands in its own record?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
E.Thanks, I'm curious on how you'll demo it
Here's the sample xml file:

R0 Rollback Segment in Import of 10gR2 into 11gR2 Database
I have a new install of Oracle Database Server Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.3.6 on AIX 7.1.
I used the DBCA to create two databases and used export datapump and import datapump to upgrade two 10gR2 database to 11gR2.
One of the import logs includes the following messages:
Processing object type DATABASE_EXPORT/ROLLBACK_SEGMENT
ORA-39083: Object type ROLLBACK_SEGMENT failed to create with error:
ORA-02221: invalid MAXEXTENTS storage option value
Failing sql is:
CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT "R0" TABLESPACE "SYSTEM" STORAGE(INITIAL 131072 NEXT 131072 MINEXTENTS 2 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645)
I verified that the source database has R0 with maxextents of 2147483645.
I can copy and modify the CREATE ROLLBACK statement and lower the value assigned to MAXEXTENTS, or use MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED, then run the command in the target database.
In light of the fact that the DBCA did not create R0 in my two 11gR2 databases, I want to know if I still need to create R0 in the one that showed the error in the import log. Has anyone else noticed the disappearance of R0?
Here are the rollback segments that exist in the 11gR2 database at this time:
SQL> Select SEGMENT_NAME, OWNER, TABLESPACE_NAME, INITIAL_EXTENT, NEXT_EXTENT, MIN_EXTENTS, MAX_EXTENTS, PCT_INCREASE, STATUS

Do you know anything about Oracle no longer automatically creating R0 in 11gR2?

Using mapviewer with database installation only (moved to db- spatial) ?
question moved to db->spatial
using mapviewer with database installation only ?You should be able to deploy MapViewer in this OC4J. Take a look on chapter 1 of the MapViewer User's Guide for information about deploying MapViewer in an Oracle application server.

Using mapviewer with database installation only ?
using mapviewer with database installation only ?
i have installed oracle database 11g on windows
the enterprise manager already relies on the ocj4 ('http://orcl:1158/em')
if i open 'http://orcl:1158' i get the start page for the appllication server - by clicking on 'manage applications' i come to the enterprise manager start page (i thinked, i can uplaod some ear application file, sinve oc4j is present for the em)
its possible to install the mapviewer.ear with this database installation only (since the oc4j is present for the em) - or i have to install the oc4j too?
thxYou should be able to deploy MapViewer in this OC4J. Take a look on chapter 1 of the MapViewer User's Guide for information about deploying MapViewer in an Oracle application server.

Oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5
what are the packages needed for oracle 10g database installation in red hat 5?
what do you mean by yum way of installation?Check on the release notes for your platform
This is for x86-64 Linux.. read it all, then you'll find the "6 Documentation Corrections and Additions" section you'll find the RPMs that you need
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15666/toc.htm
then go to the official doc installation of 10gR2 on x86-64 Linux
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/toc.htm
Yum is a package management tool. This is what you'll be using to install the RPMs. But first you'll have to setup the Yum repository, usually what I do is stage the DVD media on the server then make it as a repository. If ever there's a specific (higher) version that I need then I just pull it on the RedHat Network.
There are a lot of HOWTOs about Yum. You may read on this link http://docs.fedoraproject.org/yum/en/

Default port of Oracle 9i Database --- Oracle database installation
Hi,
I am new to oracle..searched across internet to know this particular detail of Oracle 9i database installation.
My query being..Can Oracle database be installed in a way to use port's other than 1521. When do we go for making use of a port other than 1521. What are the risk's and benifit's.
How to make use of a port other than 1521 while making use of OUI(oracle universal installer) to install a 9i database on windows OS.
Can someone provide an answer to my queries/ some link where I can find the answer.
Thanks,
R Syou have to change the port no in listener.ora file which exists on Oracle_home/network/admin/listener.ora like
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1521))
)from this to
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Griat-xp.bebo.tech.com)(PORT = 1522))
)afterwords you have to reload the listener by using lsnrctl on command prompt
in this way you can change the default port of Oracle

11gR2 repository in 11gR2 database
Hi,
is it possible to install a 11gR2 repository in a 10gR2 database?
I'm somewhat clueless about this since the repository software is not available standalone (i.e. not in the context of the 11gR2 database).
But there should be a way following the statement in the [ OTN download area for standalone client |http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/warehouse/downloads/software/index.html] :
To install OWB 11.2 and host an OWB repository on Oracle Database 10 g Release 2 or Oracle Database 11 g Release 1.
regards
ThomasHi Thomas
Yes you can do this, you will need the 11gR2 standalone software, go to the OWB OTN page here and click on Downloads, the OWB standalone software is here.
