11gR2 on Linux

Hi there,
I am installing 11gR2 core DB on Linux, according to general oracle docs, there are packages we have to install before we proceed with actual DB installation. Newer package exist but it forces for exact the same version. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY PLEASE?
EX:
This package exist: libaio-0.3.109 and oracle is asking for libaio-0.3.105 and says it is missing.
1) Why the newer doesn't pass the prerequisite?
2) Anyone knows which file ins Linux and/or Oracle is checking these prerequisites?
Thank you
P:s: Not all the distros are like this, some pass very nice and easy and some no matter they have newer versions still asking for the old and if yu want to isntall he old ones, the package dependencies make you crazy. can someone be a help please?

You should tell us OS details.
Newer package exist but it forces for exact the same version. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY PLEASE? It means Oracle platform has been validated for those versions. If you want to try installing with new versions of package, you can try but Oracle does not gurantee that it will work also will not provide support in case any errors.
2) Anyone knows which file ins Linux and/or Oracle is checking these prerequisites?
It depends on the OS, if it is using rpm manager, then it has its own rpm catalog where each installed package named and other details are defined.
If you think a little bit further, oracle installer maintain a list of rpms and their required version details which it compares with the insalled version. It complains in case of mis-match.

  • OCI 11gR2 Trapping Linux Signals

    Greetings,
Is there any documentation that might allude to any possible changed signal behavior with OCI for 11gR2 on Linux platform?
We currently have handlers that call abort() as well as dedicated SEGV and other handlers that are appearing to be broken when run as background processes when linked with Oracle 11gR2 OCI libraries. This would be under RH 5.4 and using Oracle Client for 11gR2. For example, when we call abort(), no core is dropped in certain background processes. If we first set the default handler- either through signal SIG_DFL or with sigaction prior to calling abort(), this drops a core as expected. If we link with other libraries, this problem also goes away.
What we really need is some way to ensure cores are dropped or what to setup to collect cores. Our work-around for abort() works for those occasions, but we're now losing executables with no trace and no core to be found only when linking with OCI 11gR2 libraries.
Any insights greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • How to sync primary and standby database in 11GR2 on linux

    Hi ,
How to sync primary and standby database in 11GR2 on linux . Both my primay and standby are 3 node cluster each.
Can you please suggest a good link and brief steps .
    Thanks

Are you trying to setup a new standby or sync an existing standby database?
    OK I see it
    "standby is behind the primary"
    So you have a gap.
I would check both alert logs for a cause. You might find something like this
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.Look for ORA-00308 and ORA-27037 and ORA-16055.
There's no sense fixing the gap unless the cause is fixed too.
Also check out this post from a few days ago its dealing with similar issues.
How to sync the standby database with the primary?
If you find this helpful please mark it so.

  • 11gR2 on Linux OEL 5.4

Hi and happy new year to all,
I installed 11gR2 on Linux OEL 5.4, using the "Software only" option. Everything worked smoothly with the installation, but when I try to use netca or dbca, both of them hang after a few screens, and I can't proceed further.
Has anyone already seen the same, and is there any solution ?
    Thanks in advance
    Antoine

Has anyone already seen the same, and is there any solution ?Frequent reported problem when OS is mis-configured.
You need to actually Read The Fine Manual, Installation Guide for V11R2 Linux.
It could be OS kernel parameters.
    It could be networking.
What clues exist within dbca log file?

  • Does Veridata have Agent for oracle database 11gr2 on linux?

    Hi,
Does veridata have agent for oracle database 11gr2 on linux? From the edelivery.oracle.com, I just found the latest version is 10.2. When I installed the 10.2 version agent for oracle database 11gr2, the agent needs libnnz10.*. Does 10.2 version agent support for 11gr2 database? Thank you.

Oracle instant client 11.2.0.1 64 bit
connecting to Oracle 11gR2 64 bit on Linux 5.8 64 bit
I have created a User DSN in Windows called "NITRO Oracle 11gR2 DB" using the Oracle 64 bit instant client driver 11.2.0.1. Configured as so

    Connection test is successful.
In Excel 2010, I go to Data ribbon, From Data Connection Wizard
    http://i.imgur.com/han3u.png
I then choose Other/Advanced, and then Oracle Provider for OLE DB.
    http://i.imgur.com/w3P1c.png
I click next and then put in the data source, user name and password and click test, and it fails with Micosoft Data Link Error. http://i.imgur.com/zuv41.png
Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

12154 means the client couldn't resolve what you filled in for Data Source. What did you fill in for Data Source when configuring the OLEDB connection? It looks like "nitro" should be the correct thing to fill in, based on your statement that the ODBC DSN you configured works with it.

    Hello,
I have Oracle Linux 5.5 with Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.
what do I need to have/prepare to install Oracle database 11gR2 on it?
the hardware part and the partitions are done!
    1-
Do I need to install/run Oracle Validated Configuration RPM? even if I have Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel?
if yes does in means the Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel does not prepare/configure the system to host database?
    2-
    With any of the above
do I still need create or edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file, and add or edit lines similar to the following:
    fs.aio-max-nr = 1048576
    fs.file-max = 6815744

The intention of Oracle UEK is quite obviously Oracle specific, so I think it is legitimate to ask why not to include the Oracle specific kernel configuration file. The UEK is a drop-in replacement for the existing kernel. Why would we include the oracle-validated configuration options into the kernel package when we already have a perfectly good oracle-validated RPM that can be used with both kernels? Also, the UEK may be Oracle specific, but it's not database specific. Keep in mind that Oracle has thousands and thousands of products. :) I run the UEK on lots and lots of servers, many of which don't run database and many of which have completely different /etc/sysctl.conf configurations.
The list of available packages and add-on's at http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL5/5/base/x86_64/ is growing. So perhaps it's just a matter of continued development.
Not sure what the point of this statement is: there are no plans to incorporate the oracle-validated configuration into the kernel, as it already exists in oracle-validated.

  • Oracle insert sessions not failover to node1 in 11gr2 suse linux 2 node rac

    Hi all,
I already setup a 2 node oracle 11gr2 rac and setup is installaed fine. in baseline testing insert sessions are not failovering to the node1. scenario i do as follows.
Scenario 1 - We ran an insert query in both Nodes and unplugged the Node2 interconnect wires from the server. In which case the Node2 insert session should failover to Node1 without any interruption to the users and the Node2 CRS( Cluster Ready Services) should reboot.
Scenario 2 - We ran the insert queries and unplugged Node 1 interconnections from the server. In this scenario also Node2 CRS should reboot and the insert session should failover to Node2.
please let me know any one have face this issue.
    Regards,
    Kanchana.

    Hi,
I already created the TAF service and try to failover it. Node going down and nothing will happen. But the insert query of the client machine will hand and not getting any error. We using VIP for local and remote listner as well. because still not configure the DNS.

    Hi,
Do we need to Set variable ORACLE_HOME properly (Grid Home) while starting RDBMS instance?
e.g ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/11.2.0/grid*I recommend you set ORACLE_HOME properly for each Oracle Installation when you use SQLPLUS.
    i.e: cat /etc/oratab
    orcl:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    db10g:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
+ASM1:/u01/app/11.2.0/gridAlso you can startup/shutdown our database with SQLPLUS using ORACLE NET*, but it must be configured properly.
My recommendation <s>is always</s> use SRVCTL and CRSCTL to manage to your environment. Track all the process of initialization processes through the logs using ADRCI utility (only 11.1 or later).
When use SRVCTL or CRSCTL to manage I recomend you use (GRID HOME).

I recommend you create routine of backups of the database and archivelog to prevent this area becomes exhausted.
If you need the database in archivelog but it is only to test then create routine to delete archivelogs periodically.
If you dont need the database in archivelog, then just disable it.
