11i db upgrade questsions

Hi experts,
We are planning to upgrade 11.5.10 rac database from 10.1 to 10.2, a few questions posted on RAC and DB upgrade blog are still awaiting responses. Thought I might give a try here:
1) We need to upgrade CRS from 10.1 to 10.2 before database upgrade
Found CRS 10.2 PSU 8705958 - 10.2.0.4.2 for CRS PSU 2
Should we apply the CRS PSU on the 10.2 ORACLE_HOME with binaries and 10.2.0.4 patchset before the db upgrade? Or should we apply the CRS PSU after the DB upgrade.
2) The OTN blogs has a number of postings on CRS listener registration or startup problems after the dbua upgrade. Could someone let me know if I should copy or move the 10.1 TNS_ADMIN directory and files to 10.2 if we choose to use dbua for the upgrade. I have seen notes about doing such thing in manual database upgrade.
3) We installed the 10.2.0.1 rdbms binaries and 10.2.0.4 patchset using OUI without setting any environment variables. Simply provided the sid, the new ORACLE_HOME and Inventory location to OUI while remaining 10.1.0 environment variables, such as PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH had been set upon login.
Should we be concerned about the integrity of the 10.2.0.1 and 10.2.0.4 binaries installed so far?
Thanks for your help. Newbie

Thanks, X A H E E R.
Question:. 1) We need to upgrade CRS from 10.1 to 10.2 before database upgrade
. Found CRS 10.2 PSU 8705958 - 10.2.0.4.2 for CRS PSU 2
. .......... should we apply the CRS PSU before or after the DB upgrade.
Your advice: . I suggest you to upgrade your CRS home first, then perform upgrade of your Database.
Clarification needed:Could you clarify "upgrade your CRS home first, then upgrade Database"?
I was planning on running below steps in sequence of a thru d.
a) CRS home: Upgrade CRS from 10.1 to 10.2
b) CRS home: "opatch auto" 10.2.0.4.2 CRS PSU 2
c) 10.2.0 ORACLE home: optach Jan-2010 rdbms psu on 10.2.0.4
d) No ORACLE home specification: dbua rdbms from 10.1.05 to 10.2.0.4

  • 11i-R12 upgrade: when to apply patch 8919489

I am performing an 11.5.10.2 -> R12.1.1 upgrade on Linux-x86 using the Maint Wizard (MW).
MOS ID 437878.1 says to apply patch 8919489 (R12.TXK.B.Delta.3) BEFORE applying the bundle forms patch 9593176 (and any missing patches) as part of the OAS 10.1.2.3 upgrade.
The MW has patch 8919489 being applied AFTER the OAS 10.1.2.3 upgrade patches (done in MOS 437878.1) and after the main 12.1.1 upgrade patch (u6678700.drv).
Does it matter when this patch is applied?
    Thanks

I suppose that I should clarify.
    - The MW says to follow MOS 437878.1 BEFORE starting the primary upgrade patch
    - MOS 437878.1 says to apply patch 8919489 as a pre-req patch
    - The MW says to apply patch 8919489 after the primary upgrade patch
So, is it to be applied along with the other 437878.1 patches or after the primary upgrade patch?
I don't know where MOS 437878.1 is referenced as part of the 11i-R12 upgrade outside of the MW.
    Thanks

  • 10.2 Oracle Home after 11i 12 upgrade

We have done an upgrade of 11.5.9 to 12.0.6 on TEST. We did the DB upgrade separately (ie - not within the rapidinstall part). So, we have the original 10.2 oracle home from 11i, as well as the 10.2 oracle home that was supplied with rapidinstall. Herein lies the question:
    1) Does it matter which Oracle Home is used (presuming both are at the same patchset level? Will their be future implications if the 11i 10.2 oracle home is used?
    2) If we are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home, how does one move to the other Oracle Home (the one that the release 12 rapidinstall supplied) - is this part of running the appsutil.zip? Please bear with me on these questions - it's been a couple of months since we did this, and we're just reviewing everything again in further detail.
    Thanks everyone.

    Hi Hussein,
Perhaps I used the wrong words (my apologies).
    1) We upgraded our 11.5.9CU2 9.2.0.8 DB to 10.2.0.4 first, before running rapidinstall (because this is how we plan to do it in PROD - this breaks up the downtimes to our users).
    2) We did not install a 12i 10.2 oracle home per se - when we ran the rapid install, it supplied the filesystem: $ORACLE_BASE/db/tech_st/10.2.0/ - and this is what is a little confusing to me.
    3) During the 11i>12 upgrade, under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-8 - step 7 - we generated a new context file under the 11i 10.2 oracle home.
    4) So, we clearly are using the 11i 10.2 Oracle Home. So my questions are:
Q1) The filesystem that rapidinstall supplied (as noted in point 2 above) - essentially that is not doing anything - ie - it is a duplication?
Q2) Under the "Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide: Release 11i to Release 12.0.4" - Page 3-2, Oracle says "We strongly recommend that you use the Release 12.0.4 Oracle Home supplied by Rapid Install..." - I guess this is the part that has me a bit confused, or I need a second opinion on. My assumption is that we are OK here in what we did - that being, using the 10.2.0.4 Oracle Home from 11i.
    Thanks very much...Colin

  • Applications 11i installation/Upgrade

    Hi All,
We are going to upgrade from R11(running on Oracle 8.0.5 and NT) to 11i. Oracle Applications is used for educational purposes at our University. Two questions:
    1. Can I install R11i on the same machine with R11 and test it before I upgrade 11 to 11i?
    2. Do I need to upgrade to Oracle 8i EE before I install R11i or 8i is included in Rapid Install process?

    Dear Team,
I would like to here your expert suggestion/opinion on Upgrade 11i HRMS to Release 12 existing instance. following are the brief on existing environment and scenario:

  • 11i-R12 upgrade and MOS 954704.1 (pre-upgrade

I am performing the 11.5.10.2 -> R12.1.1 Upgrade using the Maint Wizard (v2.19) on Linux x86.
    I am at this step:
Cat - Upg to Rel 12.1.1
    ProdFamily - Perform the Upgrade
    Task - Apply Preinstall Patches
Step - Check for critical pre-upgrade patches for Financials
Action - Follows MOS note 954704.1 to apply pre-upgrade patches
I would like to know whether I need to use any special options/parameters to adpatch when applying these R12 patches.
    Thanks

    I don't understand. I haven't applied ANY R12 patches (except OAS 10.1.2.3) yet since I am still at a "pre-upgrade" step.
So the R12 patch cannot be in AD_BUGS.
The R12.AD.A.delta.4 patch is 6510214. Don't I need to know whether it is in the Rapid Install upgrade driver u6678700.drv?Sorry, I thought you are asking how to find if it is applied or not later after the upgrade.
Just follow the same logic we did with Patch 6856840, search MOS for (R12.AD.A.DELTA.4, Patch 6510214) and you will get the list of patches that includes this patch (according to MOS website, I can see that this patch is only included in R12.AD.A.DELTA.6).
    Thanks,

  • 11i Pre-Upgrade with MW

Using the Maintenance Wizard (MW), at the "Apply Merged patch to the APP node - Part 1" step there is the following message: "NOTE: You must *still* review the readmes for each of these patches to perform any manual or conditional steps. "
If MW merged the patches A, B, C and after B I have a manual step to do (is written in the readme.txt of the patch B) ... how can Maintenance Wizard merge these 3 patches ? in this case, how could I apply the merged patch with MW ? When I have to do the manual step ?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Paul,
Good question, and one I have not been asked before!
If there are manual steps to be done, you should be performing them right after the merged patch is done applying.
I suppose there is the REMOTE possibility that patch C (in your example) is looking for data that is generated by doing the manual steps of patch B. However, we have not come across any situations like that.
If we did, we would pull patch B out of the merging bucket and hardcode a step for it prior to any of the merges.
Hope that's clear. Good luck on your upgrade!

    Hi,
I think the autoconfig fails for me is because the old Host name (DVLP003) is stored in some of the apps tables. I am doing the R12 upgrade in DVLP008. Its not able to generate TNSNAMES.ora and Listener.ora.

    Hi,
We have EBS 11.5.10.2 on AIX with 10.2.0.3 database. We want to migrate and upgrade it to EBS 12.1.3 with 11.2.0.3 database.
I have done some steps as below:-
    1) Enable Multi-org in 11i
    2) Upgrade DB from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.3 in 11i. (Refer Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0) [ID 881505.1])
    3) R12.1.1 installation:- Run Rapid Install to Create Upgrade File System
    4) Apply patch 7461070(12.1.1 upgrade driver)
    5) Apply Pre-install patches for R12.1 upgrade and merged with u6678700.drv
    6) Apply the merged patch. --> Finished.
Now, I've some problem as below before upgrade application to 12.1.3
    a) Do I need to run the coversion to OATM ?
    b) Do I need to apply pathes which base on Interoperability Notes EBS 12.0 and 12.1 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1] ?
    c) As the post steps - Complete Workflow Notification Mailer configuration(required). Can I skip this step if we have not use the workflow notifcation service ?
    d) If I finished the upgrade to R12.1.3, any settings/configures need to be done in application before using the R12 application by user? Any documents?

  • Upgrading E-Business Suite 11.5.9 to R12

    Hi All,
This question must have been asked before, so if that's the case, I would appreciate if you can direct me to the forum thread or document.
We have two identical Dell Servers hosting Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and running Oracle Applications 11.5.9 (base. no CU is installed) on Oracle Database 9i (9.2.0.3). Database and Application tiers are on the same server. Servers are named oraprod and oratest. So far, so good.
We need to upgrade our hardware and Oracle E-business suite at the same time. Oracle E-Business will be upgraded to the latest version along with the database (possibly to the latest version). Database and Application will still be running on a single server.
We already purchase two new and better servers (identical) for the new oraprod and oratest.
What is the best upgrade path we should be following? I do not mean the upgrade specifics of the Applications and the Database, they are explained in detail in the Maintenance Wizard and product documents.
This is what I think I will follow:
    - Install new OS (RedHat 5) onto the new servers
    - Copy Database and Application directories onto the server
    - Run Upgrade process
Does this sound correct to you guys?

Would it be enough to upgrade it to version 1.4.2? Because the minimum patch levels for the other versions (J2SE 5.0 and 6) are much higher than what I have.
    Can you please advise?

  • Feedback on 11i modules GL, AP, FA or PO ?

We are in the process of evaluating release 11i for upgrade of modules GL, AP, FA and PO.
We would be gratefull for feedback from anyone having upgraded to or implemented any of these modules on 11i.

My project just recently went live with a new installation of R11i Financials (GL,AP,FA,CM,SSE, ADI 7). In fact we were one of the first 20 to do so. The key to our success was our involvement in the Oracle Finacials Early Success program. You have to apply to get in and its for those who want to be live by the end of the year. Our implementation took only 10 weeks and wasnt as bad as we thought it would be. Two keys...an excellent and proactive DBA and an experienced functional testing team. WE applied 200-300 patches and "patched our way up" to 11.5.2. 11.5.3 will supposedly come out in mid-December. You may want to hold off initial installation until then. Your life will be a lot easier, especially if you are only dealing with the more stable Financials apps. Let me know if I can be of more assistance by sending me an email.

  • Disk Space Requirements - 11.5.9 Upgrade to Rel 12

Just wondering, roughly, aside from the database, how much disk space should I require for a basic upgrade of Oracle Fins - release 11.5.9 to release 12?
Is release 12 just like 11i was - meaning, it installed all the apps, even though you used just a few?
    Thanks.

In addition to Gareth's very valid observations, you might also find Metalink Note 399362.1 to be useful...it shows data and tablespace growth statistics from an 11i->R12 upgrade.
On our systems, I've seen about 3-5% growth in the size of the database when doing the R12 upgrade, but our system is fairly new...closer to the "3 year" system described in the note.
    Regards,
    John P.
