11i Oracle Assets - Security by Book feature :(

Hi,
I'm trying to set up Security by book feature in a 11i installation. I have the White Paper with me that is guiding me through this. My problem is this.
When i'm creating organisations (its a new organistaion), I selected Asset Organisation for the particular organisation. But when i click the 'Others' tab to add the Book the following error message is displayed.
Function not available to this responsibility. Change responsibilities or contact your Sys Admin.
I have the sys admin responsibility as well and i checked to see that no other profile option has been attached to this responsibility. What might be the reason for this?

Hi Hussein,
I tried all three suggestions but still i keep getting the same result. In the first suggestion it says i have to create a new custom menu by attaching the 'HR Shared Organization functions' Submenu
I did so and created a new custom responsibility by attaching this new custom menu and selecting the application as Oracle Assets. Now in this new responsibility there are no FA features. Just the custom menu that i defined. Did i do this correct?

  • Asset: Security by Book

    Hi All,
    Our implemetation has 9 instances (9 BGs) in 9 countries, I've created one asset book in each country,
    the problem is system shows all the asset books in the list of values from any asset responsibility when adding assets or running depreciation.
    That's why I need to secure the asset books, to assign one for each country.
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
    Follow the below steps for set security by book in FA:
    1. Create Organizations with the classification as Asset Organization. You can create new organization or assign the classification to exisiting organizations. For the Asset Organisation, provide the Asset Book in the "Other" information. Here you should attach the asset book to which the organization has access.
    Navigation: Setup->Security->Organization->Description
    2. Create Organization Hierarchy - Start from Top to bottom. All Asset organizations, which do not have access to each other's FA Books, should be created at same level.
    Navigation: Setup->Security->Organization->Hierarchy
    3. Create Security Profiles - you have to create security profiles according to the number of responsbilities or asset organization. In the Security Profiles, select only those asset organizations, to which you want the users to have access.
    Navigation: Setup->Security->Security
    4. Run Security List Maintenance Program for security profiles
    5. Attach the Security Profiles in Profile Option FA: Security Profile at the Responsibility Level
    DONE!!!!

  • 11i Oracle Assets - Nullyfying depreciation reseve of a number of assets

    Our furniture and fittings category in a tax book had been depreciating under the defined rules all this time. A government regulation now instructs that we should not depreciate furniture and fittings items purchased before 2009.3.31. But this direction came this week, so these asset had been depreciated and the Net Book value as of now shows these assets as depreciated till Jan 2010. The requirement is to reverse the depreciation of these assets from Jan-10 to Apr-09 and stop these assets from depereciating further.
    In other words, the Net Book Value of these assets when viewed in Jan 10 or any period after Mar 09 should reflect the NBV as at Mar 09
    P.S : This is not a journal posting enabled book. We use it to report to the local tax authorities

    What are the new features for Oracle Assets in Apps version 12i?
    where can i find User Guide for FA in Aps 12i?

    You could check Appendix A of the Oracle Applications Upgrade Guide for 11i to Release 12:

  • Oracle Assets: Transferring Assets between Books

    With current 11i functionality there is no way to transfer assets between two corporate books. It would seem that the current workaround is to retire the assets in the "old" corporate book and then load them in the "new" corporate book.
    What is the best way of achieving this? What are the things to consider?
    Can anyone tell me.

  • DEPRECIATION PROCESS IN ORACLE ASSETS(FADEPR)

    제품 : FIN_FA
    작성날짜 : 2003-05-20
    DEPRECIATION PROCESS IN ORACLE ASSETS(FADEPR)
    =============================================
    PURPOSE
    Oracle Assets 에서의 depreciation process 를 간략하게 기술
    Explanation
    DEPRECIATION IN ORACLE ASSETS
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The Depreciation Program (FADEPR) 은 감가상각비 및 자산조정액을 계산하여 감가상각 누계액에 Update 하는 역할을 한다. 감가상각을 실행하면 다음 4가지 독립적인 Request가 실행된다.
    =======================================================================
    - Generate Accounts (FAGDA - Release 11 and 11i)
    - Calculate Gain/Loss (FARET)
    - Depreciation (FADEPR)
    - Journal Entry Reserve Ledger Report (FAS400) for a Corporate book
    or Tax Reserve Ledger Report (FAS480) for a TAX book.
    - Process Pending Transactions (11i only)
    1.Generate Accounts process (FAGDA)은 필요한 GL code combinations 을 생성하여 FA_DISTRIBUTION_ACCOUNTS table에 값을 입력한다. Generate Accounts (FAGDA)는 감가상각 Process의 성능향상을 위해 Depreciation Program (FADEPR)과는 별도로 실행된다. Generate Accounts Running시간은 자산의 수 Distribution의 수에 따라 달라진다.
    2. Calculate Gain/Loss Process(FARET)는 처분된 자산의 손익을 계산하는 과정으로 당기의 처분/취소 자산의 감가상각액을 대상으로 한다. FARET는 꼭 감가상각을 실행하면 실행되는 것은 아니다. 자산의 처분/취소가 일어날 때마다 실행된다.
    3. Depreciation process 는 감가상각비 및 자산조정액을 계산한 후 해당기를 마감한다.마감한 Period 에 대해 다시 Open 하는 것이 불가능하므로 감가상각을 돌리기 전 모든 Transaction을 끝내야 한다.
    4. Process Pending Transactions program 은 Depreciation request set에 Mass Addtion Post작업을 추가하여, 감가상각이 실행 후 다음기를 Open할 때 Mass Additions Post job 이 자동적으로 실행되도록 한다.
    Oracle Assets 은 감가상각비를 계산할 때 다음과정을 거치게 된다.
    =================================================================
    1. DPIS와 Prorate convention을 이용하여 Prorate Data를 결정한다.
    2. Prorate data와 Prorate Calendar를 이용하여 Prorate Period를 결정한다.
    3. 감가상각율을 결정한다.
    4. 감가대상액을 결정한다.
    5. 감가상각비를 결정한다.
    6. 당기 감가상각비를 결정한다.
    각 과정의 부가적인 설명은 Note:77371.1 를 참조하세요.
  • Oracle database security
    Hi,
    I want to get expertised in security of oracle database.I have just learnt the basics and gained some level of confidence but i dont have knowledge about the security and other features in oracle database.
    i came to know that security is the most important part of oracle databse and now i feel to gain some knowledge in that area.
    Can anyone of you suggest me (advice me) that what are the important areas and features in oracle security and from which part of securtiy should i start concentrating to get expertised in oracle security
    Also if you provide me the links to learn the most important topics on oracle security like LDAP and others it would me much helpful
    Thanks for your nonstop help
    Thanks,
    Aram
    Its not a topic that can be listed in just few points. If you want to get started, here is one
    Project Lockdown
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/index-087388.html
    Besides this, get the book, +Oracle Security by Design*  from David Knox.
    Oracle Univ offers a complete course for the same, you should apply for it as well.
    Last but definitely not the least, look at the papers and website of Pete Finnigann http://petefinnigann.com
    That said, its not that security is the only most important thing. There are many other areas as well. If you are really passionate about this, than only it would be making sense to go for it. Otherwise, after some time, due to massive broad nature of the topic, you may find it too much to handle.
  • Oracle Assets Category-wise Report from FA and GL tables
    Hi,
    I am developing a customized report (Schedule of Fixed Assets) in the Oracle Assets Module, Which includes Category Wise Opening Balance, additions, adjustments, transfer IN, Transfer OUT and Retirements of Cost and Depreciations. I am using FA tables (FA_CATEGORY_BOOKS, FA_CATEGORIES_B) for category_id, category_name (segment1 of category combination) and book_type_code (Book Name). And I am also using GL tables (GL_BALANCES, GL_JE_HEADERS, GL_JE_LINES) for the amount of begin_balance_dr,begin_balance_cr,accounted_dr and accounted_cr.
    The report gets the category_id,category_name from FA_CATEGORIES_B and book_type_code, asset_account_ccid, reserve_account_ccid and book_type_code from FA_CATEGORY_BOOKS for a single book. The sum of accounted_dr or sum of accounted_cr is calculated for a single category_id whose asset_account_ccid is matched with code_combination_id of GL_JE_LINES.
    There are 15 books each have many projects (FA_CATEGORIE_B.segment6). This report is working as desired for 14 books but in one book there is same asset_account_ccid and reserve_account_ccid for more than one category_id(s). That’s why the same amount is displayed against the multiple category_ids .
    As functionally it is possible in Oracle Assets to have same asset_account_ccid or reserve_account_ccid for more than one category_ids, I want to know that is there any other attribute(except asset_account_ccid,reserve_account_ccid and code_combination_id) which can be used to get the separate data for each category_id from GL tables.
    Regards,
    Fahim
  • Enabling Oracle Label Security on 9.2.0.7 database
    Hi there,
    I have installed the option Oracle Label Security and patched it to 9.2.0.7. I have then run the script $ORAHOME\rdbms\admin\catols.sql . Which re-starts the database.
    But when I run the below example I get the below error.
  • Copying assets in Tax book which didnt exist in the corp book last year?
    Hi All,
    We are facing following issue with our Fixed Assets Tax reporting. If someone can point us in right direction, we would really appreciate that
    1)     We are currently running on Oracle 11.5.10
    2)     Right now (as of JUN-11), we have 1 consolidated corp book in the system with around 14000 assets in it and no tax books
    3)     Tax reporting is done from a third party software. Right now we have filed for taxes till 2009. 2010 tax filing is still pending
    4)     We want to file 2010 taxes by August and we want to do it through Oracle. We are planning to configure tax book in the system so that taxes can be filed
    5)     The approach would be to create a Tax book with open period as of 2009. Run the Initial Mass copy from corp book to tax book. This would copy everything from corp book to tax book as of Dec-2009. Then depreciate the tax books all through 2010 and run periodic mass copy for every month and we will get the DEC-2010 figure
    6)     But there is a catch here. As I said that we have all our assets in just one corp book. But that wasn’t the case before Jan-2011. We had around 20 corp books for every legal entity. So all the assets that we have today were lying around in various corp books. We did the consolidation of the assets into one book this January-2011 because all our legal entities were consolidated.
    7)     Now given this scenario, if we run the Initial Mass copy as described in point 5 to the tax book only those assets from the corp book will be copied to the tax book which existed in this corp book as of DEC-2009. (This is the standard Oracle functionality). This is not the complete list as only few assets were there in this book as of Dec-2009. Rest of them were in different books
    8)     Do we have to create tax books for all the corporate books to achieve what we want to achieve or is there a way that multiple corp book data can be copied to one tax book?
    Please let me know your thoughts
    Regards,
    Rahul
    I will re - ask the question in just one line. Please reply if you know the answer:
    Is it possible in Oracle to Initial mass copy asset data from corp book to tax book in the last fiscal year when the assets did not exist in the corp book as of last fiscal year? Assets were brought to that corp book only this year as part of consolidation
    Thanks
    Rahul
    Muhammad AliOkay I've haven't done 1z0-045 ... but I at one point I was considering 1z0-050 so I'm willing to share my views on an upgrade exam and exams in general.
    Remember Oracle are trying to ensure that a DBA who was tested at 8i DBA OCP has nw
    It depends on your definition of read the topics. If you mean literally just read the topics then that will result in a failure. If you mean study research practice and fully understand the topics that should lead to a pass.
    Bear in mind that Oracle would expect a competent 8i DBA attending the 5 day training course Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Oracle8i DBAs [http://education.oracle.com/web_prod-plq-dad/plsql/show_desc.redirect?dc=D17389GC10&p_org_id=&lang=&source_call=] to be able pass the exam with perhaps 2 to 4 weeks further study, revision and practice.
    Interestingly this particular exam has a relatively high pass mark (73%) ... one implication of that is that it is prudent to be comfortable with all topics.
    Generally an upgrade exam will cover topics beyond that of the straight OCA/OCP exams. The questions will obviously be at OCP level.
    It is possilble the Sybex book Oracle 10g New Features for Administrators Study Guide (Certification Study Guide) ISBN-13: 978-0782143553 which although for 1z0-040 may have some relevance for some of your topics. If you choose to purchase it that is your choice. (It seems to have good amazon reviews ... though all of these books can contain errors, it may or may not be updated for 10gR2, and some Sybex Oracle books are sometimes OTT in some areas IMHO, but that wouldn't stop me using one).
