11x17 Printing Issues with Acrobat version 8.2.3

I'm using Acrobat version 8 on Windows Vista here at work and both myself and a coworker can't print 11x17 pages. We've ruled out printer issues, as 11x17 pages will print from other programs. For a while, I was able to work around this problem by opening the PDF in Illustrator and printing it 11x17 from there. But as of today, none of my Adobe programs will print in 11x17 at all. This is a big issue as I often need to print technical drawings for equipment manuals and those need to be on 11x17 paper.
Has anyone else had this problem or something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You haven't mentioned anything about your printing environment.  Are you printing to a photocopier via a computer interface?  Or is this an inkjet printer or a laser printer?  Have you selected the appropriate tray for 11x17?  Have you tried "print according to PDF paper size"?  (I don't actually remember the exact wording of that setting)

  • Issue with Acrobat 10.1.2 and Windows 7 64-bit Preview Handler

    Hi. I work in an enterprise environment that is currently migrating to  64-bit Windows 7. The only version of Acrobat we have approved for Windows 7 is 10.1.2. We're seeing an issue with this version that causes the preview handler to not work. The preview panel in Explorer is just white and will eventually give the error "Preview handler surrogate host has stopped working."  I've tried to fix listed on http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html but that registry key is already correct. Our current work around for these users to just install Reader X1 and make it the default PDF handler, but I would like to find a better solution. Is there a known issue with Acrobat 10.1.2 and 64-bit operating systems? Or is there a way to change just the default preview handler?

    Most of the info on the web page you link to is 2-4 years old. I doubt it applies. Your workaround is actually the best solution: It's always preferred to use the latest PDF viewer. Reader and Acrobat can exist on the same machine.
    Also, why 10.1.2? There have been 6 releases since then with documented security enhancements (meaning there are also published vulnerabilities which are patched), bug fixesm, and feature enhancments.
    I'll ping some folks about the error you are getting. . .

  • Continuing Leopard Issues with Acrobat Pro

    So after patiently waiting for Leopard update and installing it, I'm still having the same Distiller crash when trying to print to PDF. Is anyone else still having problems after this update? There's little weird about the machine - MBP Intel with 10.5.1 - and I'm up to round 4 with Adobe support on this.

    I was having the crash issue with Acrobat Professional 8 right after I upgraded to CS3 in 2007 and prior to loading Leopard recently. Calling Adobe did not help in fixing the problem (they just had me reinstall the software). The support staff didn't find/look for the Technote I finally found: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333592
    When I upgraded to Leopard yesterday, I started making sure I had the latest updates for my CS3 suite and had to turn the updater.acroplugin plugin back on to install the updates. I was hoping the updates would have fixed the problem, but it didn't. Soon as I "unchecked" the acroplugin, Acrobat worked fine again in Leopard.

  • Performance Issues with Acrobat Reader 11.0.0.2 when secure mode is enabled

    Hello All,
    We are experiencing sporadic issues with Acrobat 11.0.0.2 across our domain, users are reporting performance issues when opening PDF documents whether locally or from a network share.
    We have found that turning off Secure Mode helps towards reducing this delay and in the cases it doesn't we are repairing the installation and/or reinstalling the application.
    Due to the security implications we need to leave this turned on, I am wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what steps were taken towards resolving it?
    I also wonder whether the white list function in the new release 11.0.0.3 would be a solution to this issue?
    Kind Regards,
    Ryan McCarty

    No probelm, so....
    We had no problems with Adobe Reader 9 and 10, we encountered the issues when upgrading to 11.0.0.2.
    Initially we found that turning off the Protected Mode, helped but did not resolve the issue.
    We tried;
    1. Turn off protected mode - issue still present
    2. Clearing the recent file registry using the below registry path and deleting the keys underneath it.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral\cRecentFiles (this does not turn recent files off permanently). - works but needs clearing regularly
    3. Turning off welcome screen by creating -  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown\cWelcomeScreen - works to improve app open speed.
    4. uninstall/reinstall of 11.0.0.2 - works most likley due to the recent files being cleared.
    5. upgrade to 11.0.0.3 - issue still present
    Following reboots the issue is still present.
    When Adobe Reader is the only application open this issue is still present.
    As mentioned I have no systems available which I could test this issue using 11.0.0.1 as we have fixed them, albeit temporarily using the reinstall method.
    I am concious that this issue is going to reoccur once that cache (recent files) builds back up because the fix above (#2) is clearing the recent files cache NOT disabling it.

  • Auto adjustment of page orientation causes printing issues with documents that have a page width greater than its page height.

    Hi,
    Since an upgrade from Word 2003 to Word 2010, we are experiencing printing issues with certain
    documents that have a page width greater than its page height.
    In Word 2003, it was no problem to set the page width greater than the page height while setting the page orientation to "portrait".
    In Word 2010, this seems impossible: despite leaving the page orientation to "portrait", if one changes the page width/height as stated,
    Word 2010 automatically adjusts the orientation to "landscape". Resetting the orientation to "portrait" will flip the page's width/heigth settings.
    This behaviour causes printing problems: the page prints out 90° rotated.
    I do not believe this is a printer driver issue: I tried several different printer drivers, and all give the same (bad) result. Setting the printer driver's page orientation settings (before printing) makes no difference, as
    Word 2010 seems to force the page orientation settings.
    Inserting the documents 90° rotated is not an option, since it causes problems with the printing margins.
    This is very annoying, since we have to print official documents of a municipality (driver's licences).
    Is there a workaround for this issue?

  • Created Menu in JS in Acrobat 9.2 & Issue with Acrobat 9.4.4

    I originally created this Javascript on Acrobat
    7.0 because there was not a means for me to
    convert a pdf to jpeg.
    When I updated to Acrobat 9.2, the following javascript that I have been using until I have acrobat 9.4.4.
         // mystuff.js - Adobe Acrobat custom menu addition
         app.addMenuItem({ cName: "SaveToJPEG", cParent: "File", nPos: 0,
          cExec: "this.saveAs('/c/football/JPEG Folder/Rept.jpeg', 'com.adobe.acrobat.jpeg')" });
         // End of media.js
    In Acrobat 9.4.4  I have the problem of creating this jpeg now.
    I see this issue with Acrobat 9.4.4 on Win XP Sp2 (or Sp3 if its the latest), and on Win 7 (64-bits) pro.
    I believe there is now "Save As" menu option that will allow me to save a file to jpg now.
    I manually tried this using the tool bar and its all works.
    I call this operation using MS Access VBA code.   This is part of the VBA colde that I used:
                Path = pdfFile & T![DirName]
                pptFile = Left(T![DirName], Len(T![DirName]) - 4) & ".ppt"
                Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
                Set AVDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDOC")
                If (AVDoc.Open(Path, Path)) Then
                    Set AVPageView = AVDoc.GetAVPageView
                    Set pdDoc = AVDoc.GetPDDoc()
                    Set jso = pdDoc.GetJSObject
                    gApp.Show
                    gApp.MenuItemExecute "SaveToJPEG"
                    Set jso = Nothing
                    pdDoc.Close
                    Set pdDoc = Nothing
                    Set AVPageView = Nothing
                    AVDoc.Close (0)
                    Set AVDoc = Nothing
                End If
                OldName = "c:\football\JPEG Folder\Rept.jpeg": NewName = "c:\football\JPEG Folder\Rept_Page_" & Format(Count, "000") & ".jpeg"
                Name OldName As NewName
                Count = Count + 1
    I am able to call the menu item "SAVE AS", but I don't know how to pass parameters to this ??   I was able to called the "Save As" as follow:
         gApp.MenuItemExecute "Save As"
    How would I pass the parameter like I have in my Javascript ??
    I need help to resolve this issue to work with Acrobat 9.4.4 ?

    You would need to first set some javascript globals from your VBA code and then call your menu item.

  • Strange Printing Issue With New HP & Pages

    Hello!
    I have a very strange printing issue with a new HP printer. I have written pages documents heavy in Texts which are located within tables. The documents print fine on a Cannon and Epson printer and look great but when I print the document on my new HP Laserjet Pro 400 Colour M451nw some of the text on some rows come out of the printer looking like they are bold / slightly fuzzy. This only happens with some of the rows of text, not all of them. The font is the same in every row with the same format.
    You can see this in the attached image. The first line (Thanks very much) has printed correctly but the subsequent lines look bold / slightly fuzzy.
    After a lot of testing the only way I can resolve this is if I copy the content into a new pages document and only then it will print and look ok with the HP printer.
    This must be a problem within my origional document. I would simply copy and paste everything into a new document however this would take a very, very long time (over 5 years of work producing teaching materials and over 100 documents and thousands of tables and formatting that cannot be copied and pasted).
    Also, on other printers you can see the lines seperating each row of the table. These lines are not visible on the HP print outs, even when the table is copied into a new document.
    Has anyone come accross an issue like this before? Is there a way I can fix this without creating a new document? Do I need to get a new another new printer (the 4th printer this week!)?
    Any advise, wise words would be greatly apprechiated!
    Thanks!

    Sorry, Fruhulda. After 4 hours on the phone with Apple care they are taking this issue further themselves. It seems to be a problem with our pages document and the compatibility with certain drivers. We have still not gotton to the bottom of it and Apple are going to get back to me when they have an answer.
    We also worked out that the issue only happens when you print via Ethrenet & USB. Printing via Wifi is ok and there are no quality issues.
    Very Strange!

    AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older versions of the AirPort Express.....model numbers A1084 and A1088. Check on the side of the Express for the model number.
    In addition, AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older "round" or "dome" shaped versions of the AirPort Extreme.

  • "Copy to clipboard" issue with Acrobat X and Skype extension in Firefox

    This post is just to let you know that there is and issue with Acrobat X and the Skype extension in Firefox.
    I don't know why but when both programs (Firefox and Acrobat) are opened and I try to copy something from a PDF I always get an error
    message like "Impossible to copy into the clipboard. An internal error occurred".
    If I close Firefox or I disable the Skype extension for Firefox everything runs smoothly.
    It is really odd, I don't know if it is a problem of Acrobat, Firefox or of Skype....
    Are anyone experiencing the same problem?
    See you.
    Alessandro.
    Ps. I'm using Windows Vista SP2, Skype extension 5.2.0.7165, Acrobat 10.0.1, Firefox 3.6.16

    Just found your post after getting the same problem with Google Chrome and Adobe Reader 10. It doesn't happen all the time but is annoying. If I switch Chrome off the problem is cured. Switch it straight back on and the problem reappears. It has only started after Skype was installed. Thanks for posting - I'll just switch Chrome off for now when I want to copy and paste unless a fix appears.

  • Issues with newer version of Acrobat Reader

    I'm not looking for advice or a fix for this problem. I'm simply posting it so that hopefully, the folks at Adobe will get a clue & take the issues with their software seriously. The real fix here is for them to quit ignoring bugs in their software and correct the code. Anyway...
    In the most recent versions of Acrobat Reader (looks like specifically to X & XI), it seems to be hit or miss as to whether Reader will open PDF attachments in Outlook email. Typically, when I double-click on a PDF attachment, nothing happens. An instance of AcroRd32.exe is created as a process (which hangs), but the PDF file doesn't open. If I make the mistake of double-clicking on the file again, another instance of AcroRd32.exe sucks up more of my system resources. This will occur for each time I double-click on the attachment. Sometimes I get lucky, and it will open the PDF file. Sometimes, if I right-click on the attachment and select open, it will do so. Most times, it just does the same thing as double-clicking.
    I've scoured the forums, searched online... Lots of people have reported this or similar problems. Solutions have been offered up, which don't work for most users. etc., etc., etc.
    It's just like the issue that Adobe has had for years with Acrobat - The software is notorious for remaining in memory as a process, long after you've closed the PDF file you opened. And likewise, for each PDF file you open, yet another instance of the software loads into & consumes memory.
    Adobe has had problems like this for years. They never have taken it seriously, they never choose to fix it.
    So, as I said in the beginning of the post - I'm not looking for a fix. I came up with my own fix - I deleted version XI, located an old copy of 9.4 & installed it.
    Nope, I'm not looking for solutions or support. I simply wanted to ***** about it.
    Doubt Adobe will even notice the post, and if they do, they'll just operate like they always have... Hope that their sloppy code just magically fixes itself.

    This is a user forum, and not the place to file bug reports to Adobe.  So you are right: your post won't be noticed by the Acrobat developers.  Nor would it give them enough information to reproduce the problem.
    P.S. I never had a problem opening Outlook attachments with Adobe Reader.  If I had, I would start by disabling Protected Mode, which is the most common cause for a multitude of problems in Adobe Reader.

  • Duplex printing issues with landscape orientation

    I have read through all of the previous questions, and can't seem to resolve my problem here.
    I am using Acrobat 8 Professional (8.2.2).  I have created a PDF from a Powerpoint presentation.  I need to be able to send this to someone else and have them view it on screen with the correct orientation, and also duplex print it correctly, as all of our company printers default to duplex printing (to save paper).  However, since the person who prints it is going to staple it in the upper left hand corner, it really needs to be duplexed to open along the left edge (the short edge of the paper).
    When I first bring up the print screen the document has the incorrect orientation; i.e. it shows a thumbnail of an 8.5 x 11" page in portrait orientation, and my content is reduced in size to fit the 8.5 width.  I think this is really the issue at hand--for some reason, even though the page is set up in Powerpoint as a 8.5x11 landscape oriented document, when it exports to the PDF format, that orientation doesn't hold.
    Anyway, it seems that no matter what settings I try to adjust, it doesn't seem to work.  I have toggled "Auto-Rotate and Center," I have toggled the duplex settings in the PDF document properties.  I have toggled the duplex print settings on my printer driver between "Open to Left" and "Open to Top."  None of it seems to make any difference in the final printout--basically what comes out of my printer is a document that is rotated to print out as if it was a portrait page, and is bound on the left edge (so each second page is printed upside down, when I am looking at it in landscape orientation).
    The only work-arounds I can think of would be to rotate every other page in the PDF so that when it printed it printed correctly.  However, then the PDF would not be readable on the screen.  I could generate two separate versions of the PDF, one marked for print, and the other for viewing--but that is a real waste.
    Does anyone have any suggestions here?  I am looking for a way either to get the PDF software to "understand" that this document is a landscape document from the get-go (then it SHOULD work to duplex print correctly with the "Open to Left" setting), or maybe create a custom print setting for this document that allows me to rotate every other page as it is printed, but that doesn't rotate the pages on the screen.
    I hope this is all clear...and that someone can offer some advice.
    Thanks!
    Melise
    P.S.  Just in case it makes any difference, I am running Windows XP Professional and am using the Microsoft Office 2007 software package.  Because the company has multiple different printers throughout the company, I need a solution that will work without regards to the specific printer driver.

    I am having the exact same issue.  The setting of "Auto-Rotate and Center" has no affect.
    Do I have to rotate the odd pages 180 so they are upside down in the PDF, but print correctly?
    I am using Acrobat 9 Pro V. 9.3.3 in Win 7 Pro 64, to HP CP6015XH (colour laser).

  • Printing issue with DeskJet 6940

    About every 20 pages or so, printing in portrait mode, the printer does a form feed after printing about 1 1/2" of text. It happens intermittently, and there is no apparent logic or pattern.
    I have reinstalled the driver, changed the USB cord, but to no avail. My LaserJet CP3505 on the same computer does not exhibit this issue.
    Using Windows XP with SP 3, Dell Dimension 3150 with 3.25 GB ram. It also happened with earlier XP versions, so its not an operating system upgrade problem.
    It happens with B/W or color printing, always using 8 1/2 x 11 paper from the upper tray. It does not appear to happen when printing in two-sided mode.
    I don't know what to try next! Does anyone have an idea?

    I have an older HP non-wi-fi printer connected to my Apple Airport Express wireless router which includes a USB port. This makes the printer available with my wireless network which I've used for printing wirelessly with my former Apple PowerBook and now with my MacBook Pro for years. I'm now able to print from my iPhone and iPad as well.
    You need to have the printer connected to a wireless router for your wi-fi network, or purchase a printer that is wi-fi capable and if you do that you might as well purchase an AirPrint compatible printer which doesn't require a wi-fi printing app purchased from the app store.
