12.1.1 install on Oracle Linux 6

I wish to know is it possible to run Oracle Apps 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 6?
The list of package requirements showing in the relevant metalink note for the installation is for Oracle Linux 4 or 5 and not 6.
I'm trying to resolve the following error message when I try to run adadmin
adadmin: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Many Thanks in advance.

I wish to know is it possible to run Oracle Apps 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 6?Oracle EBS R12 is not certified with OEL6/RHEL6 yet.

    Hi Thilina,
Please confirm you have installed all the rpms mentioned as per the notes provided by Hussein. Please verify whether you have installed all the rpms mentioned in the per-requisite setup by command:
    rpm -qa | grep <rpm_name>*
In addition, please upgrade your rapidwiz when installing especially on OEL 6 as most of the issues are addressed in the latest rapidwiz and perform a fresh installation.:
    https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/new_rapid_install_startcd_12
Please also provide the output of:
find / -name libclntsh*   (as root user)
A workaround is mentioned in this site, Please check whether this helps you and let us know:

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2 install on Oracle Linux 6 U1 64 bit

I am trying to install jDeveloper on Oracle Linux 6 U1 (6.1) and keep getting a variety of errors. I know that jDeveloper does not support 64 bit Operating Systems very well. However with the majority of new systems being 64 bit and the memory limitations of 32 bit is jDeveloper going to move into the next century and support 64 bit jvm's and operating systems natively? When will this happen?

I've been running JDev using 64-bit JDKs on OS X and Linux for a few years without issue.
You might be having issues with JDeveloper on Oracle Linux 6, however - the WebLogic install scripts, etc. do not include support for Oracle Linux 6 as of yet, nor Java 7.
Take a look at the certification matrix for operating systems and Java versions in JDeveloper:

  • Net install for Oracle Linux

I was wondering if anyone was able to do a net install. I just tried it with the following setup:
    - Virtual Box running on CentOS 5.4 32 bit
    - Oracle Linux 5.5 iso cd image 1
    - Local YUM repo synchronized with Oracle latest channel
At install time I get the following message:
"Unable to read package metadata...Cannot retieve repository metadata for anaconda-base-201004051458.xml. Please verify it's path and try again."
Unfortunately this package is not in in my YUM repo. Thanks.

A network install requires the entire contents of the installation cd's on the server, including "hidden" files like .discinfo, not just a yum repository. Easiest thing to do is download the installation DVD, and either mount it (-o loop,ro) or extract the iso, and make it available via http, ftp or nfs.

VSS-OTM-SERVER ==> JRocket, Weblogic Server, OHS, OTM 6.3
VSS-BI-DB-SERVER ==> Oracle 11.2.0 DB (Data Warehouse Type), OBI, ODI
I have OTM installation guide E38416-04 but I am little confused with it as it gives a different combination example. But it talks about about installing everything in the same instance on VM and many things differ. And also it doesnt talk about FTI.

I think you just need to press the tab key at the install options window (there is a 60 second countdown) and add ks=http://<server>/path/to/kickstart to the kernel parameter line.
But why bother at all with the current upgrade strategy? Why not implementing common virtualization solutions, like free Oracle VM VirtualBox. Are your student PC's ancient or or not suitable? Why implement old fashioned system administration and deny yourself the huge benefit of virtualized systems. Virtualization like VirtualBox will give you efficient and painless features to easily manage system installations on your student systems, including the option to run multiple operating systems on a singly computer. You can easily restore your student systems to specific installation and configuration presets in seconds prior to every lab by using built-in snapshot restore technologies, as well as easily cloning and deploying your systems.

  • Issues with installing unixODBC  (Oracle linux 6)

"4.5 Compiling the Oracle ODBC Driver Demos
If you plan to compile and run the Oracle ODBC Driver demos, then follow these steps:
    1.
If you do not have unixODBC DriverManager installed, then download it from the following Web site:
    http://www.unixodbc.org/
    2.
Set the ODBCDM_HOME environment variable to point to the directory where you installed DriverManager.
    3.
Run the following make file to compile the Oracle ODBC Driver demos:
    make -f demo_xe.mk buildodbcdemo ODBCDM_HOME=DriverManager_location
When trying to execute this :
    make -f demo_xe.mk buildodbcdemo ODBCDM_HOME=DriverManager_location
    [root@localhost ~]# cd /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/rdbms/demo
    [root@localhost demo]# make -f demo_xe.mk buildodbcdemo ODBCDM_HOME=/opt/unixODBC-2.3.1
make: *** No rule to make target `odbcdemo.o', needed by `buildodbcdemo'. Stop.
Obviously the the file is missing what now ? Do I need to do this part of the cookbook anyway?
Ive installed it through the repo tho:
P.S. OK, dl-ed from the repo

    according to my post above:
    "make -f demo_xe.mk buildodbcdemo"
    [root@localhost demo]# make -f demo_xe.mk buildodbcdemo ODBCDM_HOME=/opt/unixODBC-2.3.1/
make: *** No rule to make target `odbcdemo.o', needed by `buildodbcdemo'. Stop.

    [root@localhost demo]# ls
    cdemo81.c demo_xe.mk occidemo.sql occidml.cpp occiobj.cpp occiobj.typ
    [root@localhost demo]#
I think they are put here, right ?

  • How to install oracle 11g on oracle linux 6.1.

Hello everyone here at oracle forum.!
I'm new on using the linux and i badly need to learn it including the Oracle Database for making PHP website.
Because of this i downloaded all the packages of Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Media Pack for x86 (32 bit) at E-Delivery.
Now i was having a hard time figuring out how to install all the 4 ISO images. the only one that worked was was the boot.iso that installed the Oracle Linux 6 without the DB.
So what would i do to use the 3 updates?
I burnt them all one by one on different DVD but it wont look for the other packages.
So please guys bare with me and help me figure out how to use the other 3 packages for i know it has the Oracle Database.
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 1 V26570-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 2 V26571-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Boot iso image for x86 (32 bit) V26573-01

Oracle Linux does not install any Oracle Database. You don't need the source and boot.iso DVD. You can boot and install the system from the Oracle Linux 6.1 installation DVD. The boot.iso is useful for a network install and the source DVD if you want to compile everything yourself.
As far as I know, Oracle Database has not been certified for Oracle Linux 6 yet. That does not necessarily mean you cannot install Oracle Database on Oracle Linux 6 yet, but you will run into problems with software requirements, package dependencies and perhaps incompatibilities, i.e. ext4 file system.
I think your best option is to install Oracle Linux 5 and certainly use Oracle VirtualBox. If you are new to Linux you probably cannot use Linux as your primary OS yet, and VirtualBox will allow you to install and re-install without jeopardizing your primary host OS. You can also download pre-build virtual machines for Virtualbox from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html which might have everything you need installed and ready to use.

  • How to install GCC and DKMS on Oracle Linux?

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Oracle Linux. I installed Oracle Linux on a virtual machine using Oracle VirtualBox. Now I need to install the packages DKMS and GCC in order to share drives between the host and the ghost.
    Here is what is happening:
    # yum install dkms
    Setting up Install Process
    Setting up repositories
No Repositories Available to Set Up
Reading repository metadata in from local files
    Parsing paskage install arguments
    No Match for afgument: dkms
    Nothing to do
    Please, advice what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is what you need to install under Oracle Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions:
    <pre>yum -y install gcc kernel-uek-devel-$(uname -r)</pre>
The packages are available from the Oracle public yum repository as already mentioned, or on the installation DVD in the server directory.

  • Installing Oracle Linux 6 For 11g

I'm downloading Oracle Linux 6,2 64-bit with the single intention to simply install Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition and I've never used or installed Oracle Linux before. I know that in order to install Oracle 11g database, I will need to have some kind of graphic utility like X but I do not need a Desktop Environment like Gnome or KDE (which is not permitted on servers per company policy). Can someone tell me what exactly or which specific options I will need to minimally install Oracle database 11g? I don't want to install the entire DVD content to my server but rather know what packages are required and ONLY install those. I don't know if the Linux installer has a fairly self explanatory / easy to use options based on me using this system as a database server but if anyone can please help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Sorry everyone but I've retured back from vacation to focus back on getting Oracle Database 11.2.0.3 installed on Oracle Linux 6.2 64-bit. I've got the O.S. up and I thought I selected all the correct / required packages to perform the standard installation using the Universal Installer but it's not working for some reason. I'm unable to forward my 'xclock' session from the database server host to my workstation (Ubuntu 12.04 Linux). When I open a terminal window on my Ubuntu Linux machine and type 'xclock', the application opens w/o any issues. When I SSH into my Oracle database server and attempt to forward the X11 session over to my machine, I get:
    carlos@ghost:~$ ssh -x carlos@oracledb
    carlos@oracledb's password:
    [carlos@oracledb ~]$ xclock
    Error: Can't open display:
    [carlos@oracledb ~]$ logout
Connection to oracledb closed.I obviously have the application 'xclock' and all required dependencies installed but for some reason it doesn't forward from my Oracle server to my workstation so that I can start the installation...
