12 Days of Christmas...Part 9 - worst pressie!

Maybe it's hard to think of your best pressie... but I bet everyone has a worst pressie??!  Is it the yearly pack of socks or hankies? or something else?
I know a guy called Jamie who once bought his girlfriend some greasy hair shampoo and conditioner... not quite the present she was expecting!!   But it can't have been too bad as they are getting married next year... i'm sure he learnt his lesson after the reaction to the shampoo!
What about you guys... any worst pressies?

One year when I was really young I got a present late
I was away for a few days after xmas but I knew this one was waiting at home for me and I couldn't stop thinking about what it could be.  By the time I had got back I had built this up to be the all time greatest present ever
.... it was a vest.... some pants.... some socks....
.......gutted.......

  • 12 days of Christmas...Part 7 - Snowy pics!

    Hi Guys
We have had a load more snow here and I got quite a surprise when I opened my front door last night...so thought this would be a great topic for our next part of 12 days of Christmas...snowy pics!
Think this would fit the term "snowed in"!!
Luckily it was just the snow that fell off the roof.... but still a lot of snow!

    hi b1an,
its on the old river lee/lea at Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.
As I go fishing alot and as all the local lakes are frozen solid, the local river is flowing so its a chance to catch and get fishing.
Its hard to imagine but a few thousand years ago many Viking long ships rowed past that spot on their way to plunder further up river.
"The Viking raids from Denmark had occurred for many years when in 865 AD a significant army landed and remained in England over the winter. The English response was not organised and the Danes gained control of most of northern and eastern England. When Alfred became king of Wessex in 871AD he mounted a counter attack and in 886AD agreed a treaty with the Danes.
The main event is the supposed damming of the LEA by Alfred the Great to trap a Viking raiding party near Ware up river from Broxbourne. This points to the Lea being navigable, and possibly tidal, at that date. This treaty fixed the boundary between England and the Danelaw as the Rivers Thames, Lea and Ouse to Watling Street and then north up Watling Street."
    happy days.

In the end we will all be star dust.
    Then start all over again.

  • 12 Days of Christmas...Part 10 - Best TV Programme

So we are at part 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas... almost there!!
One thing we haven't touched on yet is Christmas telly!  Do you get pulled in by the soaps and their always dramatic Christmas day episodes?? The specials that come back every year like Delboy and Rodney in the Batman and Robin costumes in Only Fools and Horses?  Or is there something else that you like to watch over the Christmas period....
Tell us your favourite Christmas TV Programme...

My TV is hardly ever switched on over Christmas (unless I`m watching a dvd).
TV really is rubbish and looking at the line-up for this Christmas, nothing has changed.
Have a to agree about Morcambe & Wise, they were good.
Why is it they always show `war films` I thought the festive period was about "Peace on Earth"?
. . . it must be remembered that the sea is a great breeder of friendship. Two men who have known each other for twenty years find that twenty days at sea bring them nearer than ever they were before, or else estrange them.

Dear all, friends, family and foes and others,
Please accept, with no obligation whatsoever, implied or inferred, NOT EVEN WARRANTED, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the coming winter solstice holiday, as practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice, with respect to the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
Also a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year of 2011, but with due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Britain great (not to imply that Britain is necessarily greater than any other country), and without regard to the race, creed, gender, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual orientation of the wish.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal at any time. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise or obligation on behalf of the wisher to implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law. It is revocable and recoverable by the wisher.
The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or twelve months, whichever comes sooner, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, likewise whichever comes first.
Warranty is limited to the replacement of this wish, or issuance of a similar type of good wish or wishes, at the sole discretion of the wisher. (That is me)
Other than that, have a jolly good and truly wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

  • 12 days of christmas app hanging on my ipad2 (ios 5.0.1)

When i run the 12 days of christmas app it just hangs on my ipad2. I am UK based. Anyone know how to resolve it? I am running IOS 5.0.1

Have you tried closing the app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the 12 Days app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the 12 Days app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

So in the last few days I’ve noticed that pressing my volume change keys actually isn’t changing the volume on my macbook pro at all. When I press the volume up or down keys, it makes the recognisable pop sound but stays at the same volume while the squares go up or down. I mute it but my computer still makes sound. It’s the same with the volume control up the top of the screen, too. I slide it up and down and it doesn’t change the volume at all. The only way I can change the volume is with my speakers or the program I’m in (iTunes, VLC etc). I restarted and it seems to be okay then I go to change it a couple minutes later and it’s back to not working again.
I’ve checked my settings- the “use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard fuction keys” is not switched on, and I have tried a suggestion of moving the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file out of the library and onto the desktop and restarting and neither of those seem to make any difference whatsoever. I’ve tried to find online forums but the only suggestions I found were those two and they didn’t work.
I’m just annoyed because I usually have the worst luck with technology but my macbook had been going strong and I got it because of the apparent lack of things that could go wrong, but of course even if there is one thing that could go wrong it will happen to me.
    Please help!

Thank you so much for the link. Am persevering thru it, will get there eventually, as I had already tried to press the Report a Problem link on the invoice, but it won' t connect to iTunes store on my iPad, it keeps saying can't connect. Infuriating. But thank you, you found me a link I would have taken ages to find.

  • 12 days of Christmas app

I accidentally deleted, one of the 2 movies that came with the toy story bundle available of the 12 days of Christmas app (which is great by the way).  iI tried to redownload the movie but I can't as it tells me it is part of a bundle and I already have part of it..  therefore I tried to delete the other movie so I could redownload the entire bundle again, but I cannot delete this movie from my ipad. I have tried to delete it from the video app and the ipad settings app.  even though it appears to have been deleted and no longer shows up in my videos app,  when I try to redownload the bundle it keeps telling me the same thing, that I have already purchased part of this bundle and the movie reappears in my video app again.   any way I can delete and redownload as it was free today and of no cost to anyone.

Hey, I have a similar issue.
I downloaded the Toy Story bundle and it worked great. I later deleted them from my iPad as I didn't want them taking up space, however a couple of days later when I went to redownload them I can't! The little iCloud button is there but written beside it is 'this can only be purchased as a bundle'.
How do I redownload them from my purchased items??

  • The 12 days of christmas app which is suppose to give us a free gift every day has to be paid for on the 2nd day?  What is going on?

I downloaded the 12 days of christmas app and yesterday I got my first free gift.  I was very excited, today I went to get my free gift and it costs 24.99.  What is up with that?

pdroth, Yes, I am aware that only the pilot is free.  I did find it and downloaded it but my next question is that when it was done downloading it said "your purchase is complete"  This better not have charged me.  Did it?

  • Syncing Ring Tones & 12 days of Christmas

    Help Help Help,
I downloaded various items from the 12 days of christmas and also bought a ring tone from Itunes. All was fine until I connected the phone to the pc to get some photos from it. Once I went back in the ringtone had gone along with all the items dowloaded from 12 days of christmas. They are showing on my phone on itunes but I cannot put them back on to the phone. Please can anyone help cos this is doing my head in, I have tried loads of different ways and it will not sync back to the phone. Any suggestions????

no no I'm not making the problem clear
12 Days of Xmas App offered a free download of Kylie 'mini' album - I was demoing the app to some folks and happened to hit 'download' on her album three times (three demos of the app... trust me I wouldn't willingly download even one copy....) - at this point what is on my iphone is one album from Kylie, but each track is there three times - so three copies of track 1, three copies of track 2 etc...
'no problem' thinks I, just sync with itunes and remove the unwanted duplicates so - next step... sync the iphone with iTunes.
After the sync what appears in iTunes is one album but with just one copy of each track - but still on the phone there is one album with three copies of each track.
So... I untick the tracks that are appearing in iTunes and resync the phone.
After this sync, on the phone there is still one copy of the album, but only two copies of each track...
Removing the tick basically did remove one copy of each track, but still left me with two on the phone that I just cant get at in any way to remove.

  • HT201210 Cannot download 12 days of christmas app

I cannot download this years 12 days of Christmas because my gen 1 iPad does not have the latest iOS 7. Why are Apple offering this app which states it is for iPad not doing more to ensure all iPad versions are catered for. It looks like Apple has forgotten about the customers who took the plunge and spent lots of money on the original iPad and made it a worldwide success. Come on Apple treat all iPad users to this app.

Looking at it logically, it's my belief that likely many of the free apps will require iOS 7, thus the 12 Days of Gifts app also requires iOS 7. Sadly, iOS 5.1.1 apps are slowly becoming scarce.

  • 12 Days of Christmas - Missed Downloads

Hello! I treated myself to an iPhone this Christmas and found the very nice 12 Days of Christmas app (cheers Apple!) but I've missed a few days that I wouldn't mind getting! I read somewhere that they are only available for 24 hours but hope this isn't set in stone?
Can anyone help me out on how to get them?
    Cheers!

24 hours does mean 24 hours.
Nobody here could help you get them. Only Apple could.
I tried to download one freebie on my iPhone and it told me to use iTunes on my Mac to download it instead. However, for some reason it wouldn't appear for free on my Mac. I contacted iTunes Support and they told me they couldn't re-issue the free download but very kindly offered to refund me if I chose to buy the same item.
I got the impression this was a one off courtesy offer NOT their usual policy for temporary giveaways.

  • 12 days of Christmas app not downloading content

The 12 days of Christmas app not downloading content just hangs. Today's book will not download at all. Have reinstalled both app and iBook with no luck. Can still download from App Store so Internet is ok. Any suggestions?

It seems that if your Settings->General->International->Region Format is not set specifically as Canada you will have this issue. (even if your times zone and iTunes account settings are correct...)
Changing that setting from US to Canada was the fix for me.
