12 hours restoring and going...

Hi I bought a new iPhone 5s and it's taking forever to restore from iTunes. Now it's been 12 hours and the iPhone screen still says "restore in progress" and the iTunes message "restoring" although it does not give the time left to complete it.
What should I do? How much more will I have to wait? Also, the fat that it doesn't tell me the time left, is it ok? Is there something wrong?
Many thanks,
Mariola

At this point stop the restore and check the state that your iPhone is in. The restore may have actually completed.
If not, try the restore again with a new USB connection.

  • My iPhone 4 fails to restore. Using iTunes, at step 3 of 4, displays "Restarting Sync" and goes to step 1 of 4, and then forever.

It all started with a blank screen on a frozen iPhone. Doing the sleep and home button reset seemd to solve the problem, but then the apple logo started to show in the middle of calls, and finally, mail, camera, facebook and pulse apps failed to start, returning to the home screen after a few seconds. So it looked like a restore with ITunes was the solution. I was able to back up the iPhone. The restore process sems to start fine, but the process cycles forever, at step 3 of 4, display "Restarting Sync" and goes again. It seems it can´t pass from step 3.
I have tried doing the restore from recovery mode with the same result. IOS is 6 and ITunes is 10.7.
An interesting thing, is that as I kiled the restore process and disconnected the iPhone from the USB cable connected at the Mac Book and then used the phone as "Normal" it seemed that all the data and settings where restored, but not the apps; camera and mail keep failing to start, but the interesting thing is that the battery drains very quickly, in a matter of 4 hours.
Any suggestions or ideas will be very welcomed.

    Try Recovery Mode:
    1. Start iTunes.
    2. Plug phone into a USB port on the computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.
    3. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes detects the phone in Recovery Mode.
    4. Follow the prompts to restore.
If recovery mode doesn't work, you likely have a hardware problem that needs service/replacement

  • Tried to restore and update iPhone 3GS, has been in the "verifying restore with apple" stage for an hour. what should i doo?

okay, so lately my iPhone 3GS has been telling me i have no service what so ever for the past two days. But today when i was on the bus going home from school, i had perfect service and everything until i got close to my house (to clarify, i live somewhat far out from the center of town, and my school is right in the middle of town.. didnt know if that would affect anything). So then i asked my Dad about it and he reccomended restoring and updating my phone to see if it helped because im a couple updates behind. So i plugged it in, backed it up, and began to restore and update it. All was well until it got to the "verifying the restore with apple" stage. I was watching the rose bowl and not paying attention while it was on, but remembered that it started that stage at the beginning of the game. Now the game just ended 5 or 10 minutes ago and lasted a goood hour, hour an a half, and its still verifying!! i dont know what to do... HELP!

Did you check the security software settings? iTunes has to be able to contact Apple during the update process: iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues

  • IPhone 3G - RESTORE Mode, goes on and off from v1.0 until 2.2

Hey guys, brief history of my iPhone. I bought it and it worked perfectly for about 1 month. Then the first updates were released and I installed the new firmware, ever since then at random times the iPhone will just drop into Restore mode. I'll be in school check the time, and 5 seconds later it hits restore mode. It would sit in restore mode for 3 days, then randomly return back to normal. For example since the 2.2 update, it has gone into restore mode 4 times, and I have had to restore twice, and I get about 100 error messages before it FINALLY restores, and lets my phone work for about ONE day.
Ontop of ALL of these problems, when the phone works for about 5 hours, and sits in restore mode for 3 days, before it finally decides to restore, when it DOES work, the internet doesn't work unless its on WLAN. Ontop of these TWO MAJOR issues, I had a perfect screen on 2.1, then I updated to 2.2, and since then I have had a random green dead pixel appear.
Honestly, all these firmware updates are bricking a HUGE amount of iPhones, whats the problem? Everyone is posting of going into restore mode, and not being able to restore. To be honest, this is the most troublesome phone I've ever owned =.=
So, does anyone have any idea to FIX THIS PERMANENTLY? I'm tired of restoring, its been atleast 10 times with about 300 failed attempts. It barely ever works and when it does theres other problems ontop of it all.
How can I fix this? Is there a way to just download 1.0 firmware? I've never had any problems with that.

If you have followed the standard Apple troubleshooting processes (see user guide )
probably a trip to the local Apple Store Genius bar is called for before warranty runs out
Assuming the iPad has been released in your Country if not you may have to take it to a
neighbouring Country where it is available

And why not? Apple is selling these things like BigMacs. They can't make enough of them. You've been suffering since May because you refuse to get a decent router.
Can you imagine if a company that makes a refrigerator told me that I needed to upgrade my electrical system to rectify a problem with their device? What kind of response IS that?!?!
What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle?

  • Phone says it needs to be restored and to connect to iTunes to restore. Emergency calls only. But nothing happens when i connect it to iTunes. What's going on?

Why can't I restore my iphone 4. it says to connect to itunes to restore and emergency calls only. But it doesn't restore.

    Reboot your computer
Connect the USB end of the cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
    Disable your firewall and antivirus
    Launch iTunes
Disconnect the phone from the other end of the cable
Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until the screen goes black, then release the SLEEP button but contiune holding the HOME button
Connect the cable to the phone while still holding HOME
Wait for iTunes to recognize a phone in "recovery mode", then release HOME and your phone should restore.

    Hi,
My newest Apple TV which I bought on Amazon finally arrived and worked for 2 days.  Now all of a suudden it is refusing to load the main page to select movies, radio, netflix etc.  All I am getting is a page saying homesharing with only an option to select Computers of Settings.  I have reset the Apple TV, restored it but nothing...it keeps going back to this page saying computers and settings.  I've tried updating the software as well but after 30 minutes or so it tells me software update was unsuccessful and to go to settingsand choose restore and the loop begins?  Is it permanently broken?

I had the same issue Berry.  What worked for me was going to the General Settings and doing a reset from there.  I got all my apps back but had to re-enter all my information for iTunes, Netflix, Hulu etc...
Hope it works for you too!

  • HT201263 iPhone restores and then goes right back into recovery mode

Overnight, my iPhone 4 went into recovery mode on its own.  I plugged it into iTunes, which detected a phone in recovery mode and asked if I wanted to restore it.  I went ahead and clicked restore and the phone went through the whole process.  I received a notice on my PC saying that the restore was complete and to wait until prompted to unplug my phone.  I never received a completed sign and the phone just goes back into recovery mode and I eventually get another notice saying that iTunes detected a phone in recovery mode.
Is there any hope for my phone or is it toast?

No one does.  It's an iPhone 4.  Totally and completely out of warranty.  I use Straight Talk for my service carrier so I don't even have any sort of support from AT&T.
If I contact Apple, they will charge me $20 just to troubleshoot.  Hence me posting in the community.  I was hoping someone would have some further information that might assist me in determining whether there was any chance of getting the phone in working order again or if it is toast.
If the problem is hardware, like you indicated at first, it is most likely not even worth spending the money to have the hardware fixed (if even possible) because it is an iPhone 4, not under warranty, and pretty outdated.

iPhone 5s replaced after one month at apple store. They started restore and it is still restoring after 24 hours. What can I do?

If you feel the restore process is not progressing, all you can do is stop it and try again.  To stop the restore, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and tap Stop Restoring iPhone at the bottom.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.
