12 keeps duplicating when I import.
Elements 12, keeps duplicating the images in Organizer on its own. How can I stop this, and how can I easily get rid of these unwanted duplicate images? I do not want to delete the images on my camera photo card.
Ok here is the way I did it as best I can remember:
I directly copied the picture files from XP to Windows 8.1 over my wireless connection, along with the rest of my files. I then installed the new version of Elements (12) on the Windows 8.1 machine. Then backed up the catalog on the Version 8 of Elements on the XP machine. On the new machine, I restored the catalog in the new version of Elements (12). I had to specify to use the Pictures folder used in Windows 8.1 rather than the My Pictures folder used on XP.
This is very much the same method I used when I upgraded to version 8 and had no problem with it. Of course, the path “My Pictures” was the same because I was using Windows XP in both cases.
Watch folders is not turned on in either version. I generally copy the pictures from the camera card to the pc to the folders I want to use under Pictures organized as I described in the original message. Then in Elements I use Get pictures from files and folders to bring the pictures into the catalog organizing them into Albums and Events as needed. I have done this ONLY with new pictures that I have taken since upgrading.
I definitely want to avoid this problem in the future. It was very frustrating and time consuming to correct. Just want to understand what happened and what I might have done incorrectly. Also, someone else might have had the same problem or we could prevent anyone else from having it.
Thank you for your time and thoughts.
Have a good day!
Sheila

My notes keep duplicating when opened on my mac
I have 14 different notes synced with my iPhone 4. When I open notes on my iMac I get random duplicates of existing notes. They do not duplicate on my iPhone.

most times when I import photos from my desktop or dropbox to iPhoto, iPhoto will keep the title I created for the image as the display title under the image. but occasionally it displays the filename instead and I have to go back through and reenter the title in iPhoto. why the inconsistency? running OS 10.9.5 and using iPhoto 9.5.1
Try this: select one of the photos that are showing the wrong title and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to File Name menu option.
See if that will put the name that you want under the thumbnail. -
My videos keep lagging when imported to Motion 5, Impossible to edit on!
When I import a video to motion 5 from my GoPro Hero 3 it laggs and has the spinning beach ball for about 5 secs then goes! The software keeps crashing and freezing. But when im testing out the intros that come with motion works fine! But it only laggs when I upload my own video. Can anyone please help? Thanks
Try transcoding a clip to Pro Res and see whether your playback performance improves.

How can I keep my RAW images from having anything applied to them when I import them?
Hi All,
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III and I use a picture profile in my camera that keeps all my images with low saturation, low sharpness etc... but whenever I import RAW pictures into Lightroom, I initially see the images the way I saw them in my camera, then, one by one, when I click on them, they change without me doing anything - like if some sort of preset was being applied, to every photo, one by one -
I don't want this. I want my photos to be as RAW as possible when I import them and I don't want anything to change. I like what I see in camera and Lightroom changes this after import - how do I stop this? I checked in my Preferences under Presets and NOTHING is checked -
Help...
ThanksThis is in the FAQ and is normal behavior. Picture profiles are not actually encoded in the raw image data but written as a metadata tag in the raw file. Lightroom cannot understand these metadata tags as they are Canon proprietary. So Lightroom will show its own default rendering for the raw data. What I would do in your case is to go on one of your images into develop, scroll down to Camera Calibration and select camera neutral (probably the picture style you were applying in camera). Then set this as the default for your camera (hit option and the reset button will change). Newly imported images will now use the camera neutral profile. This is probably close to what you are looking for. It is important to remember that any treatment you select in the camera such as the picture style, black and white, extra saturation, etc. has no effect whatsoever on the raw data. They only get written as metadata tags for canon software and are reflected in the jpeg that is embedded in the raw file. Lightroom takes the raw data (which is basically simply what the sensor actually saw) and apply its own default interpretation.
You should definitely check out the camera profiles in the calibration section. They tend to give more pleasing color than the "adobe standard" profile that is there by default. -
Flash cs5 keeps crashing when importing images.
Flash cs5 keeps crashing when importing images onto stage. I plan on tracing a drawing I made. They aren't that big so I don't know why cs5 crashes. Any ideas how to fix that? Thanks
I'm using windows 7- 64 bit.
Quard processor and 8 gb of ram

C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txtI got the same problem. I tried to import into Flash cs3, cs4, cs5 - constant error in each application.
But seems I've found the reason why this happened in my case.
I just deleted the installed system video codecs (divx, xvid, third-party codecs).
I do not see a direct connection with the import objects into flash. But fact, immediately after the removal of codecs it has to work.
I suspect that the reason could be a third-party codec that is associated with playing QuickTime. Maybe.
Also if it does not help you this way, I used a temporary solution.
Open the psd in Adobe Ilustrator, copy images to clipboard, paste it into flash.
In my case the images are not displayed on the screen after insert, but put into the library.
Don't touch objects, just save the file, close the Flash.
Launch Flash and open saved file. In my case in the first run was an error.
Close the application and open it with file again.
The second time the error was not followed, the images were within the document 8-)
This option made it possible to work until the issue is not solved completely (adobe, wake up!).
win7 64, cs5 (cs3, cs4 had the same issue)
Perhaps it can be useful for someone.
thx
Sorry for my English. -

When I import some of my cd's they have multiple album images but have just one song from the cd because of a guest performer. How do I keep the cd from "blowing up" like this? eergh
for purchases from the iTunes store do this:
connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
for everything else check out this post by Zevoneer. -
Keep dates when importing movies
please help. i do have lots of clips to import (after having converted them from a m2ts format). they were sorted chronologically and when imovie imports them the order is gone.
i need them to be to keep their original name as this is the time the video was taken.
does anybody have a solution for this?
thanksIf you import directly from the camera, it should preserve the date and time metadata.
If you convert your m2ts later via a converter, the clips should be named clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current extension.
If a clip is named this way, it will sort into the proper chronological order in Events, and you will be able to see the date and time metadata when skimming using VIEW/PLAYHEAD INFO.
Hope that helps. -
I'm new to Pages and I've searched online for an answer to this question but haven't found anything quite what I need.
When I import an image from Finder (or drag and drop from Finder) into Pages, the Text Wrap default is "automatic" which seems to be "in front of text." I have to manually click each image and then change it from "Automatic" to "Inline With Text." Is there a way to change the default so it's not "Automatic" but "Inline With Text" to save me these steps for every single image I import?
(If importing from Media Browser would behave differently, I don't use iPhoto except for Photo Stream so I need to bring them in from where I've saved them in my Finder.)
Thanks so much for any help!Good questions... I'll have to try and figure out when the problem first happened - I was thinking it was when I upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 but that might not be the case... I'll try your suggestions to see if any of them eliminate the problem (I have restarted recenlty and that didn't fix it) but I'll try repairing permissions, etc. Thanks!
hmmm... Mcbuffy: are you implying that you *don't* get the webloc when dragging an image out of Safari and that this isn't a caused by change to Safari but is a big/conflict in mine? -
FCE keeps crashing when importing HDV
I have a Canon HV30 and have been shooting on a normal miniDV-cassette, using the Cine-mode on the Canon, which is then in 25 frames per sec, as far as I understand.
I have problems importing into FCE, hoewever. I know thatv I have to use the capture window and that works fine for a little while, but very soon, FCE begins to crash.
I have tried to trash the 4 preference files which is suggested someplace else here and repair permissions etc. but to no avail.
I am not an expert in this, but using Easy Setup, I go for the HDV options, but there is only i50 and i60 and this Cine-mode is perhaps different? I get some lagging warnings, too, but it seems to be able to keep up with the import anyway, at least during the first 2-4 attempts, but then it begins to crash.
My only solution so far has been to import it into iMovie HD and then make a sequence out of it, export it as a mov-file and import that into FCE. iMovieHD has no problem importing. Maybe there should be an idiot-proof mode in FCE:)
Well, hope someone can tell me what I am doing wrong...There, now I finally got time to try out the suggestion; disconnected the external and connected the camera directly to the iMac and tried 8 consequtive captures without any problems at all. Earlier the crashing began after the third or fourth at the best, so I guess that here lies the problem.
Any suggestion as to how? So far, I have connected the camera to the drive since the iMac has only one FW400 port but I guess I can use the FW800 although both the drive and the camera is 400? I would probably need an adapter?
Well, seems like it is solved, or at least almost. Would have liked to be able to record to the external, but if I could connect the camera directly to the iMac, I hope it would be possible to do so without problems? What do you think? -
When I import a CD, itunes quits
I finally got itunes to work yesterday after not opening for awhile. i imported Cd's just yesterday and it worked fine.
Itunes is perfectly fine except, when I import a CD, it comes up with a message saying "Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" and there are two buttons saying send error report and dont send (i have windows XP). I restared my computer a couple of times and the same message keeps reappearing.
Windows XPI hate to say it but you will probably need to uninstall and reinstall. Download the newest version and install that version. Hope this helps.

My music is on a nas. Loaded using windows media player in WAV.
When I import into Itunes only the record apears, no Album name etc
How can can I see all the detailsInformation is often stored as tags embedded in the file. WAV does not support tagging. I don't know how WMP works but iTunes keeps its own database about media. For many audio formats, track information will be stored both in iTunes' database and in the file itself as tags. With formats such as mp3 most tags (not all) will 'travel' with the file when copied. This does not happen with WAV where the information is only stored in the player application's database.

Made a slideshow using Photoshop Elements 9 that keeps crashing when I try to output it to movie file (wmv).
This message appear: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
This is totally new to me as I have made a few slidshows before and saved them into wmv-files without any problem.I tried to open the file and renew it "save as" and did the whole procedure over again but it still crasches. There is no video in the slideshow and all pics are .jpg and to summarize it - 5 days of work is nearly gone if this doesent convert into a wmv-file..... Pls advise any suggestion what to try here.
Best regards
Eric
/SwedenYour crash has nothing to do with the junk filter. It looks more like a corrupt preferences file. If you're curious, you may check the validity of that file issuing the following command in Terminal:
plutil ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plistWhat does it say? Now, try this:
1. Quit Mail.
2. Make a backup copy of the HOME/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
3. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Preferences/. Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
You'll have to set up your accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in HOME/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. The first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable "Display remote images in HTML messages" if it's enabled. -
Keeping metadata when moving files?
I have LR 2.6. I have a laptop which doesn't have enough disk space for all of my photos, which go back to 2000 (around 22,000). I have three external drives, one is the main one and the other two are backups at this point (smaller space). I need to get another.
I had been importing the photos from the card to my laptop. In the past I've been able to keep a year on the laptop, but with my current camera I don't have enough room, just enough for a couple of months. What I had been doing is copying the older ones to the external drive outside of LR, and deleting them from the laptop, not realizing that I was losing my keywords, titles and I'm not sure what else. I didn't have the settings to create xmp files until recently. The last time I moved files I did it within LR, but it only moved the RAW files, not the xmp.
I had also been keeping all the data in one catalog. I went back to an older one that had a lot of what I'd lost and tried to update that, but there are still around 1,300 files without keywords. And now I have metadata conflicts (not sure if that's from the xmp settings or not).
1-What's the best way to deal with this so that I don't lose my info?
2-Is there any way to easily tell what the conflict is, or at least be able to tell in general where the "best" metadata is?
3-Is there any way to merge metadata from a selection of files to another catalog?
4-And if not answered in one of the above, what's the best way to fix this mess?
Thanks in advance. The last time I moved files I did it within LR, but it only moved the RAW files, not the xmp.
This can't possibly be correct . If the .xmp file exists, and you move the photo within LR, the xmp moves with it.

I think the only way you can have a metadata conflict is a conflict between the catalog's metadata and the xmp metadata.

There is no best way to fix this mess. Any way to fix it is probably going to involve a lot of tedious work on your part to straighten things out.
You can merge the metadata from the older catalog into the newer catalog. In the older catalog, select the desired photos and then File->Export as Catalog. Then, in the newer catalog, select File->Import from Catalog. This will cause LR to replace the metadata in the new catalog with the metadata in the older catalog. An alternative when you Import from Catalog is to tell LR to create virtual copies, so you have both sets of metadata in a single LR catalog, which you can then view and decide which one you want to keep.
Good luck
