12 sec wait for the boot process / intel matrix storage problem ??? /

Hi!
One day pre-installed Vista, reinstall the clean, fast way to start the operating system. All very good! However, this is also the past such was the ThinkPad logo, and the Windows Loader interval between 12 seconds, so that nothing happens. Now I noticed that after this happened, when uploaded to the Intel Matrix Storage drivers, immediately before the machine started to boot. Had met someone like that here? Not so very disturbing, but it's better if the machine starts quickly, and then 12 seconds can be enough.

  • Had desktop Mac Pro set up with recent operating system there is a message that say setting up your Mac on the screen do I have to wait for the this process to complete or is there a way out of this screen?

    I took all of my devices in to the apple store in ridge hill in Yonkers, the rep helped me set up the new operating system on all my
    Devices from my phone to my desk top tower at home. I powered up my desk top this morning and a message came up saying that
    The system did not recognize a program that was not compatible with the new operating system and it went right into "Setting up your Mac"
    Mode. Do I have to wait for the setup or is there a way to by pass this process?
                            Dee Brown

    I think maybe wait for a bit. Usually, on startup and installing the new OS, the assumption is that the user might not know too much, and that compatibility must be checked, which may be helpful, or not.  For now, I'd say ignore it, wait until it's done its thing, then update the program that's not compatible. If you can, Mr. Brown, find out which one isn't "making nice" with Mavericks. Hopefully it'll give you a name

  • Need help with XP instal. stuck at: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver

    I've bought a new 2.0 ghz laptop with vista blah blah but i want to change to XP.
    I've
    bought a new copy of XP and am ready to go then first issue was during
    installation the screen says can't find harddrive installed.
    I
    then found some thread somewhere which i've lost that said to buy an
    external floppy drive and downloaded that floppy driver thingy that i
    need to get past that stage from the toshiba website..
    FYI driver name: SA200 ACHI F6-1017-XP
    That
    worked fine.. when it said press F8 if you agree to install XP i nearly
    wet myself.. anyhow after it formatted the drive it then asked me this:
    Insert the disk labeled:
    *Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver*
    into drive A:
    * Press ENTER when ready
    WTF are you talking about laptop? can someone please help me past this stage?
    :-( :-( i only want XP installed.
    So far its been like 3 weeks since i've been trying to install it

    Here are detailed instructions I found earlier:
    Installing a Retail (street copy) version of Windows XP on a Vista Toshiba Laptop.
    - If the Toshiba laptop has a seperate BIOS for XP and Vista, download and flash the XP BIOS over the Vista BIOS.
    - If XP Setup does not detect the SATA Hard Disk, simply turn on "SATA Compatibility Mode" in the BIOS if applicable. If this option is not available, follow these steps:
    1) Download the Windows XP SATA F6 driver from the Toshiba Support/Downloads Website.
    If an individual F6 driver is not available, download and unzip the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver. The Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver package should contain some folders under the "F6flpy" folder. For example: ICH7M_32bit for an ICH7 based chipset when installing Windows XP 32bit.
    2) Copy the F6 driver files (iastor.inf, etc..) to a blank floppy disk. The actual files must reside in the root directory of the Floppy Disk. For example, A:\iastor.inf, A:\iaahci.inf, etc..
    3) Use a Toshiba USB Floppy Drive with the Toshiba notebook. (some non-Toshiba USB Floppy Drives may not function properly during XP setup)
    4) Boot from Windows XP CD-ROM, start the installation and ensure the floppy disk is inserted in the USB Floppy Drive.
    5) When XP Setup prompts you to press F6 to install a Storage Driver, immediately press F6.
    6) When XP Setup prompts you to select a SATA driver, select the appropriate driver and continue. For example: ICH7M Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller, ICH8M Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
    7) Keep the Floppy Drive attached and Floppy Disk inserted until XP has completed its installation. Do not Partition or Format the Hard Disk during XP Setup. The SATA drivers from the Floppy Disk are copied and stored on the Hard Disk during XP installation.

  • My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs or so, then the machine shuts down and restarts.

    My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
    I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
    I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
    When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
    I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
    The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
    My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
          left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
          the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
          the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
               because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Waiting for the end of the process

    I'm executing a command using the Runtime class and I have to wait until the end of the command to get the results. But, I don't want to sleep the thread for some undeterminated time. I'd like it just to wait until the command ends.
    See in this code:
    try
    String result="";
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("sh"); //open a new shell
    InputStream is = p.getInputStream();
    OutputStream os = p.getOutputStream();
    os.write("ifconfig -a | grep PROMISC -c\n".getBytes());
    os.flush();
    try {
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(1000);
    /*command should take some time to execute so wait for 10 secs .... I don't like this .... I would prefer waiting for the end the command ifconfig*/
    catch (InterruptedException eIE) { }
    while (is.available() > 0)
    result = result + ( (char) is.read());
    System.out.println(result);
    catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.println(e);

    AFAIK you can only detect if the shell process has finished, as sub-processes of the shell are not visible to your Java program (without resorting to OS-specific syscalls).
    You can write "exit" (or whatever terminates your shell) in the output stream as the last command - this will quit the shell as soon as all commands are finished, and that will be visible to your prog. Note that you should not run ANY of the shell commands in background then, as this could cause the shell to exit before the commands are finished (and, depending on the system, even signal the subprocesses).

  • Should I wait for the next generation of intel before I purchase my Mac

    I use FCP Studio at work. I also use Studio 8 (Macromedia), but on a PC. I wan't to purchase a Mac sometime in the next year and run FCPS and S8 on it. (Any way they would both run on a laptop?) All of this talk of Universal crossgrades, etc. has me confused. Should I wait for the software to catch up with the hardware? Should I wait for the G5 intels? I'm in no hurry and want to make the right investment. I teach, so we have several different models of Mac - laptops, G4s, and G5s. I need to understand all of this crossgrade stuff before I purchase my own or the school purchase anymore computers.
    I would really appreciate advice from the experts.
    PowerMac G5, (7,3)   Mac OS X (10.4)

    just to address some of your points:
    All of this talk of Universal crossgrades, etc. has me confused. Should I wait for the software to catch up with the hardware?
    since Apple first introduced the move to Intel there have been some clever blighters installing OS X on their PC's and Windows on their Intel Mac's ... not to mention that it is now never been easier for PC developers to port their software to the Mac platform
    so who knows, there may be a possibility of dual booting your Mac to run both FCP in OSX and Studio 8 in Windows, or if the developers port it, running Studio 8 natively on the Mac ... but not yet.
    there's also speculation about software virtualization, whereby you might run your app regardless of the host OSX ... but again, not yet.
    in the meantime the G5 Quads are spectacular machines in their own right ... wish I had one.
    Should I wait for the G5 intels?
    the laptop MacIntels are getting rave reviews, its safe to assume that the MacIntel desktops/towers will be even more impressive, however the publically announced timeframe for their release is not before the end of the year ... although we're all hopeful that they'll come sooner
    if your current systems meet your needs, if you have no special reason for upgrading, like you are losing work because your facilites are not up to spec (or you just can't wait and have money burning a hole in your pocket) then it would be prudent to wait and see.
    let the bleeding edge pioneers forge the way Jackie, wait for the dust to settle ... the second generation are usually much improved over the first

  • Windows 7 very slow logon, Waiting for the User Profile Service, winlogon event 6006

    Hello,
    Every so often one of our Windows 7 clients which is not normally having any delay at logon will take a very long time to login. This may be 10 or 20 minutes or up to an hour in some cases.
    Typically the event log will contain entries like
    The winlogon notification subscriber <Profiles> took 572 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logon).
    There is no further information available from Event Log Online Help, nor any additional detail as to why the logon event was so slow. During the delay the user will just see "Waiting for the User Profile Service" on their screen.
    We first started seeing this problem with Windows Vista and if anything the situation has not improved since then. It has never happened with any of our Windows XP users.
    We are currently planning a migration of computers to Windows 7 but stuff like this which has not been resolved in Windows over a 2 year period will stall that migration. The least improvement is to increase the event notification to give a lot more
    information on why the user profile processing has stalled.

    Hi,
    When did the issue begin to occur? Did it occur after installing certain application or applying certain policy?
    To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following step.
    1. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking to check whether the system can login quicker.
    2. Type “gpedit.msc” in Search box and press Enter. Navigate to the following location:
    Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Logon
    Please double click “Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon” policy and disable it.
    3. Perform a
    Clean Boot to check the result.
    Thanks,
    Novak

    I do not know what you are waiting for.
    I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
    Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external  firewire drive.  You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

    SuperDuper is the wildly acclaimed program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless. Its incredibly clear, friendly interface is understandable, easy to use, and SuperDuper's built-in scheduler makes it trivial to back up automatically. And it runs beautifully on both Intel and Power PC Macs!

  • [Solved] systemd does not wait for the unit to finish

    My problem is described in the title. I have made a test by enabling the following unit:
    [Unit]
    Description=/etc/rc.local Compatibility
    [Service]
    Type=forking
    ExecStart=/bin/sleep 1000
    TimeoutSec=0
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    After=network.target
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    The unit is well started (a process sleep 1000 exists). But with a type=forking, systemd is supposed to hang in this case. Instead, the graphical.target is launched, systemctl list-units mention it as dead, but the display manager is started before the sleep 1000 completes. Ho can I force systemd to wait?
    Last edited by olive (2015-03-16 16:49:34)

    olive, now you're making even less sense. I didn't say the sleep example was stupid and I didn't question your reasons for doing/wanting this.
    I suggested you add "Before=display-manager.service" and you respond "I added Before=graphical.target and it didn't change anything."
    I also tried to explain why systemd has no reason to delay the display-manager.service. You could have asked for further clarification, as berbae has now done. Let's try a longer explanation.
    Service startup
    Services can be started in different ways, as configured with Type=. This determines when a service is considered "started" (or when the service's start-up is considered finished). When a service reaches this state (some time after being started), units that are supposed to start After= this service will be started (and no sooner).
    With simple systemd has no further information about the start-up process. It launches whatever you specify in ExecStart and this is the main process that continues to run till the service stops. systemd assumes this type of service is started immediately. All the other types have some way for the process to indicate to systemd (either directly or indirectly) when it has finished starting.
    Actually oneshot is also a bit special and that is where RemainAfterExit comes in. For oneshot, systemd waits for the process to exit before it starts any follow-up units (and with multiple ExecStarts I assume it waits for all of them). So that automatically leads to the scheme in berbae's last post. However, with RemainAfterExit, the unit remains active even though the process has exited, so this makes it look more like "normal" service with
    begin of unit/startup ---- end of startup ------ end of unit
    This is the relevant behavior for this thread. First sleep starts, then after 1000 seconds, start-up finishes and follow-up units will be started. Then either the unit dies, or (with RemainAfterExit) it stays "active".
    The man page describes how "end of startup" is determined for each Type.
    Targets
    Targets are meant to group units together, to provide synchronization points (and replace runlevels). When you start a target, all its units will be started (in parallel if possible). The man page says:
    Unless DefaultDependencies= is set to false, target units will
           implicitly complement all configured dependencies of type Wants=,
           Requires=, RequiresOverridable= with dependencies of type After= if the
           units in question also have DefaultDependencies=true.
    This means that (by default) when a target is requested, all it units are started first. Only after all units have finished starting, the target itself will be started (and since the target doesn't do anything by itself, this startup is basically instantaneous). Without this dependency, the order between the target and its units is unspecified, so in theory the target could finish starting immediately while its units are still being started.
    Back to olive
    graphical.target has these DefaultDependencies, so it is not started until all its units (like display-manager.service) and other After= dependencies (like multi-user.target) have finished starting. Your sleep service has to be started before multi-user.target starts (again due to default target dependencies). So first display-manager and the sleep service are started and after 1000 seconds, the sleep service finishes starting and then (assuming all other dependencies were quicker) multi-user.target is started and graphical.target as well (assuming display-manager didn't need 1000 seconds).
    If you want display-manager.service after the sleep service, add a Before/After line to specify that (this was your original goal and my suggestion).
    olive wrote wrote:However, units that are parts of the graphical target are still launched before the graphical target become active. I am still unable to completely delay the starts of the graphical target before a specific unit completes.
    It should be clear now how this works. "units that are part of the graphical target" can only mean "units that are wanted/required by the graphical target" but that is basically all the units that are started when you boot your system, because multi-user.target is a part of graphical.target. And your sleep service is a part of multi-user.target, so in fact you're saying you want to delay starting the sleep service until the sleep service completes
    What you probably intended was to delay all units that are a part of graphical.target but not of multi-user.target until after the sleep service. I can't think of an easy (or even good) way to do this and this post is already too long, so I'll table that for now.

    Hello,
    Just purchased a new laptop:
    Intel Core 2 quad
    4gb memory
    1000 HDD
    Photoshop CS 8.0 disc dead/scratched/unreadable.  So I copied my Adobe folder from my Program Files Folder on my PC and pasted on laptop.  When I try and run PS I get the error message "Memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again". Which I do then Photoshop closes.
    Can anyone help (in layman terms please)?

    Not really. You are essentially FUBARd. Without a proper install, there is usually no way on to get the licensing stuff working. You might be able to get there by installing any other CS product, so PS could latch on to the licensing system that would be already in place, but otherwise it's a lost cause. Simply copying over the executables is normally not enough. I will admit though, that I skipped CS, so there may be some tool somewhere that I don't know about can do this post facto...

  • Please wait for the group policy client - shutting down issues

    Hi
    I have issues with shutting down machines. When machine is connected to company's LAN everything works fine. However, if machine is connected to VPN - Juniper NC - 1 hour or more it always hangs when it is shutting down. When I shut down the machine
    (verbose mode on), first stage is:
    Please wait for the system Event Notification service.
    This ends exactly
    after 3 minutes. Next stage:
    Please wait for the group policy client windows 7
    ...is never timed out (even after few hours). Machine never shuts down.
    In Application logs there are always these 4 events when machine is unsuccessfully shutting down:
    6005: The winlogon notification subscriber <Sens> is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logoff).
    4627: The COM+ Event System timed out attempting to fire the Logoff method on event class {D5978650-5B9F-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E} for publisher  and subscriber .  The subscriber failed to respond within 180 seconds.
    The display name of the subscription is "ISensLogon2". The HRESULT was 80010002.
    6006: The winlogon notification subscriber <Sens> took 180 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logoff).
    6005: The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> is taking long time to handle the notification event (Logoff).
    Sens is timed out after 3 minutes while there is no 6006 event for GPClient and machine is stuck there for ages (Please wait for the group policy client
    stage). I noticed in System logs that machine always hangs if there is this error
    5783: The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller \\server for the domain X is not responsive.  The current RPC call from Netlogon on \\machine to \\server has been cancelled.

    I tried with signing out from VPN before shutting down machine, I even switched off WiFi but machine still hung. If i tried to get GP results before shutting down machine it takes ages and it is stuck in "Getting the user name" stage.
    Gpupdate /force never updates policy (It stops at Updating Policy...). I tired with installing different hotfixes which did not resolve the issue. I never have any
    issues with logging in, no GP scripts are applied when user is logging off or on, no roaming profiles. The only issue is when machine needs to be shut down.
    I excluded 1 machine from GP and left it on VPN for a few hours, several times. It always shuts down successfully. I applied GP back one by one and the one which is presumably causing an issue is Avecto which adds admin rights when VPN application
    starts (event 100):
    Process started with admin rights added to token.

    I guess there is a DNS issues when machine is on VPN which leads that GP cannot be applied / updated. Not sure if or why Avecto would have an impact on this. When machine is trying to shut down it still somehow thinks it is connected to DC. What
    I also noticed are several explorer crashes while machine is on VPN.
    Does anyone have same issues? All machines are Dell with Juniper NC (VPN).
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    According to event log, Winlogon process takes a long time to handle logoff event. That's to say winlogon process is waiting for response to logoff.
    According to your description after, this problem is most probably caused by Avecto. You can try to disable or uninstall it temporarily for test.
    To make further troubleshoot with this problem, you can try to use WPT (Windows Performance Tool) to make troubleshoot.
