12 V CPU power connector

I just bought the K7N2 Delta-ILSR motherboard to replace my old ASUS one, and I found one problem. This new motherboard has a connector that just says:
ATX 12V Power Connector: JPW1
This 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU.
Now, my power supply does not have anything I can fit in that connector, is there any solution that does not involve buying a new one?
Thanks!

Hi all
i just hooked up my 12v power connecter(little square plug next to main power plug) and all seems ok so far but i was wondering as you said jmbook1 some people have had problems hooking it up and i just wonder'd what type of probs can occur in doing this.??
my rails are on thread called dvd playback probs but were taken before hooking this connecter up so they may differ now?not sure will check later.

  • Computer won't power up if the 2x2 CPU POWER connector is plugged in

Yesterday I assembled this computer and it was working great. Played games on it and everything.
    MSI K9a2 CF, ATHLON 5000+, LC POWER 550W, RADEON 3850 256MB, 2x1G SUPER TALENT 800MHZ RAM.
3 hours ago I went to the store and left 2x PRIME95 torture test running just to check for stability. After  2hours I got home only to find out the the computer has been shut down but the KEYBOARD still had a light on the NUMLOCK led.
So then I unplugged the PSU from power and started up again. But the PC only started for half a second and then the power went off.
So I pulled everything out of the board only to find out that if the CPU POWER 2x2 connector is in the board then it will not power up. Then I also took out the cpu and try to power up without the CPU and  with the CPU POWER 2x2 connector in and it also doesn't power up.
    Conclusion:
If the 2x2 CPU power connector is in the MB regardless if the CPU is in or not then the computer will not power on. But if the 2x2 CPU power connector is absent then the computer powers up. But that don't do me any good since without that connector the CPU can't function.
I also tried hooking it up to another PSU but it does no good. The MB, CPU, GPU, RAM, HDDS are only 2days old.
Also it couldn't have overheated since the temperatures never went higher than 50C during full load thx to Scythe Ninja Revision B cooler and also there is no smell or any indication that something could be burned. The temps were checked with BIOS as with MSI probe.
My question is is the MB the problem?? So I would know which part to send back for warranty

Do you use system stock parameters?(No OC)
    Check CPU cooling system.
List PSU details(Look over PSU sticker for them)
Everything was at stock speed there was even no tweaking involved.
CPU cooling system was working great. Under load the max temperatures it had gotten was 50C. And also the CASE was opened so there was no chance of overheating. And also when I started PRIME95 I opened the window and closed the radiators which means the room temperature was about 15C celsium only.

It is probably the board right? I must know this quick to RMA it

  • 2nd 8-pin CPU power connector on Big Bang XPower

I am currently using both 8-pin CPU power connectors and am wondering if it is really necessary with my current overclock.  For all the BB XPower owners let me know your thoughts on this.

When doing early tests with the BB Xpwr, I only had a single 8 pin CPU connector ( PSU was single +12V Rail). Since it was not necessary but recommended, I purchase an 8 pin Y cord manufactured by Athena. It worked perfectly until I got a newer double cabled 8 pin PSU (Single +12V rail Corsair AX1200). I also supply power to the boards 6 Pin JPWR4. As Jack says, if the PSU has the connectors (or use the Athena), fill 'em up with power!

  • P6N Diamond: CPU power connector(s)

My PSU is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W.  It has what appears to be both an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU connector.  The motherboard manual shows an 8-slot connector, but it came with a plastic tab on it which blocked 4 of the 8 slots.  Neither manual (MB or PSU - the latter simply a fold-out piece of paper...) says anything about the apparent discrepancy.  The tab on the MB is easily removed, which I did and connected the 8-pin PSU connector.  I'll be running a E6850 CPU and two BFG 8800 GTS video cards.  Can anyone shed some light on why there was this plastic tab over four of the slots?  Should I be using the 8-pin connector, or the 4-pin.  In all my previous builds, I've never had a choice.  I'd rather not power up only to find I've made a mistake and fried everything.

Modular PSUs may look nice and "improve" cable management, but they also introduce more points of resistance.
There also known to be unstable on the power rails, And can cause premature failures in system components due to it...
Dont bother, a zip tie is way better in the end!

  • Z97 Mpower CPU power connector

Hi I have a Z97 MPOWER with an 8-pin and a 4-pin CPU connector.  My PSU only has a 4+4 pin.  Is it one or the other or both?  Do you use the 8-pin or the 4-pin, or is it recommended to use both?  If both, which PSU do you recommend and can you use the 8-pin PCI-E for the 8-pin and 4 of the 4+4 only?  Thanks.

Use the 8pin (4+4), the 4pin is for extra power if you OC to extreme.

  • X48C with Core 2 Quad CPU - power connector for fan

New at this. First build. So please treat me gently.
The CPU fan's power selector is clearly marked on the X48C (3 pins). The CPU fan's power lead is obvious (4 pins).
What would you gurus recommend I do?

You are so right. I was trying to plug it into the sys fan. Newbie error. Many thanks for the gentle nudge in the right direction.

Just a quick question. I just bought this board and it has a 4 wire connector next to the ATX power connector and my power supply does not have the 4 wire cpu power connector. Do I need to buy another power supply, or can I use the existing one and just use the ATX power cable. will this do any damage to the CPU and or power supply.
    Thanks.

i have asked a lot of people and thay have all told me theat you have to have the 4-pin plug conected. but i was faced with the same ishow my psu dosnt have the plug. i didnt have anuff cash at the time to get a new psu so i just pluged then the atx power plug and it has worked fine boots fine and runs stable. then i talked my uncle in to buying then same board and he got a new case wen he got it the psu that came in his case hase the 4-pin power plug so i pluged it in wen i put it together and has workes fine to. so ovisly you dont have to have then plug even thow it is recomended y duse the board have the plug and can or will it hurt my componets if i use the board without it if you have any comenta please e-mail me at [email protected] thnx

  • X58M CPU Power connection...

    Hi all...
I recently got a barebones kit with the X58M mobo... I've had nothing but problems so far.
This question is mainly about the CPU power connector though. I noticed the CPU power connector on the board has a small plastic "blocker" over 4 of the pin connectors. Is this just for packing and shipping? Should I only use the 4 pin connector from my PSU in the "open" sockets or should I remove the plastic blocker and use the 8 pin connector? The Manual for the X58M shows the CPU connector as a fully open 8 pin socket...
Originally I removed the blocker (so it was like the manual) and used the 8 pin connector... I got all of 2 seconds of a boot (the logo screen only) then nothing. Could this be the problem?
My symptoms are as follows if this is any help... First ever power on - Logo screen, followed by blank white screen and nothing else. All power ons following - No video signal and one short beep every 30 seconds or so.
Please tell me I didn't fry the CPU!
I have tested all the memory sticks, one at a time. I have reseated all the components. I have tested the board outside of the case with just the CPU, Memory and Graphics card. I'm convinced there is a problem with the board, but I'm no rocket scientist...
    Current (attempted!) system specs:
    X58M
    6Gb Corsair XMS3 (3x2Gb)
    Intel i7 940
    Geforce GTX 550 Ti (1Gb)
Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU cooler

    Ultra LSP 750 PSU
    DVD-RW
    1x Seagate 1Tb SATA Drive
2x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500Gb SATA Drive (Raid 0)
Thanks in advance for any advice...

    Yes.

It is there so that users who have a PSU with only a 4-Pin connector, won't plug that 4-pin plug into the wrong part of the board's 8-pin connector.

No, unless you put a 12V PCI-Express power plug into the 12V CPU Connector.

Test the board outside the case on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration.

  • KT880 delta 12v power connector

I just purchased a Kt880 delta and see that it has a 12v cpu power connector which my atx power supply does not have.   do I need this connector?.  The msi web site says it is used for p4's.

Yes, a new PSU is in order. The KT880 board relies heavily upon the 12V and 3.3V, while (like many newer boards) largely ignoring the 5V.
As mentioned previously, avoid cheap PSU's, as they cannot always deliver the power needed for modern systems. Many cheap PSU's use a high amp rating on the 5V rail, to claim they have a PSU that can deliver more juice, but they simply cannot run a newer system.

  • 975X Platinum CPU Power

I recently bought a 975X Platinum (PowerUp Edition) and when i was getting ready to connect the CPU Power and I noticed that the board has an 8-pin molex connector, but 4 pins are covered up. So my question is should i use a 4 pin CPU power connector or an 8-pin molex for the CPU power? I don't want to damage the CPU so i've waited on hooking up the system.
Any help would be incredibly greatly appreciated. I've read the manual and it doesn't really specify why half the pins come covered up. So as soon as I can get some help on this I'll feel safe powering this system up for the first time

Use your 4 pin Cpu connection. Most Psu's don't have the 8 pin connector that is the reason for the cover, if you do have the 8 pin connector on your Psu you will find that it is a 4x4 pin connector that can be split off for mobos that only have the 4 pin socket. If that is the case you would use the 8 pin plug supplied.

  • MPower Z87 Power connectors

Recently put together a new PC build using a MSI MPower z87, but my power supply (BFG 1250watt - modular) only had one lead for the 8pin power connection for the board.  I tried to use a different connector that the power supply had plenty of, a 6pin + 2 pin that was the same size and shape with the +2 connected, but when I attempted to power on, the thinner wire to the +2 portion melted.  Did this hurt the board? and Is it safe to run the board with only one of the two 8 pin power connectors connected?  (JPWR1 and JPWR2) I do have the larger JPWR3 connected (the one above the SATA connectors).
I'm guessing I'll need to get a new power supply, the BFG one I have is a bit old, from a 2009 build, which may be why it only has one ATX 8pin connector.  Can anyone recommend a power supply that defiantly has 2 (or more) 8 pin ATX power connectors?
    Thanks

that may have fried the board as a 8 pin CPU power connector has different pins (a live and a ground on the side) but a 8 pin PCI-E power connector has 2 grounds there so you may have blown something on the board or damaged the PSU itself if your unlucky!
try with just one 8pin CPU power connector and and hope to hell you haven't blown something and you lucked out there and haven't damage something (It only needs one unless your using LN2 cooling and doing massive overclocks and huge over voltage's to push the CPU way above its design limits)!
also if you have damaged something and its broke your in a bad position here as you will have voided the warranty as its classed as user error because you made the mistake of convecting that!

  • ATX 8-pin Power Connector: JPWR2 12v power to CPU

MSI P67A-G43 (B3) motherboard, COOLER MASTER Elite Power Supply, Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz
I have two 4-pin power connectors coming from my power supply. Should I connect just one to the top of the socket as shown in this link
    http://www.mediafire.com/i/?91bhhi1myt9f5zo
or should I hook both of them to the 8-pin socket?
I am waiting for a replacement for my i5 cpu. My new build wouldn't boot and gave a 5 beep code and then would immediately shut down. No display on screen. I'm hoping it's not the motherboard.
    Thanks.

It should work with only 4, but if u have 8 pin connector coming from your power suply i would connect the other one too and be done with it.

  • MSI N460GTX Hawk Talon Attack - LEDs near power connectors

    Hello
I've searched this forum and the web, but i didn't found the answer.
I just recently bought this VGA. It works all right, but there's 6 led on the back of the card and two of them are glowing red when power connectors are plugged in.
I just want to know if this is just an indicator that the card is receiving power thru power connectors (when i put them out, they turn off) or if it's indicator that somethings not right (you know, the red color ).
    This is my pc:
    MB: Asus Sabertooth i55
    CPU: Intel i5 760
    RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB
power supply: Silent Pro Gold 700W
    etc
Power usage shouldn't be the problem, got 2 HDD and 1 SSD and 4 fans (i used couple of web power, all of them showed value around 520W).
I've tried connect the card like 3 or 4 times (plugged with 2 separated cables from supply, connected only by "hard installed cable", conect it via one modular cable etc.), the card's 2 LEDs are always on (it's LED1 and LED2).
Thx in advance for any info.
    John

  • 4-pin CPU-PWR connector on x99s SLI Plus

I'm attempting to install a Kraken x-61 cooler into my Corsair 780T case and the MSI X99S SLI Plus mobo.  One step says:
Connect the 3-pin power cable from the pump to the 4-pin CPU-PWR connector on the motherboard.
In the MSI x99S SLI Plus mobo and the manual (En-6) I can't find anything called CPU-PWR.  The 3-pin power cable fits into the 4-pin CPUFAN1 connector, but I don't know if that's the correct connection.  Could someone tell me where the CPU-PWR connector is on the MSI X99S SLI Plus motherboard?

it can be confusing to start with but you get used to it once you have done it a few times!
so yes connect it to the fan header for CPU as that line has a sense pin that will detect if your pump fails and will shut the computer off to prevent the CPU overheating to stop it breaking the processor! just take your time and anything your not sure of feel free to ask us!
