1200 access point dropping connections

I have a 1231G access point running c1200-k9w7-mx.123-2.JA it will randomly drop connects during the day. If I look in the logs I see the following occur just before the link drops.
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
%LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to up
Any Ideas?

Hi!
It seems to me that I obtained the same issues with AP1200.
10 AP have been installed for 10 days in 5 different enterprises.
And in 6 cases after changing some parameters of RF Interface the all clients dropped the signal.
This trouble was solved very simple.
I turned off and turned on RF Interface again.
After that AP1200 began to work properly.
So they have still worked without any troubles after many times of power failures.
If you have any results or suggestions, you will be able to write me on E-mail:

  • Newbie help with Aironet 1200 access point

    Hello everybody,
We "inherited" an Aironet 1200 access point with antenna's throughout our building. This was installed by a company that thought they would make money selling Wi-Fi access but now they have gone bankrupt.
We eliminated their router and installed one of our own, and we have it handing out IP addresses. When I plug it into the Aironet 1200 it works just fine. Users are able to connect wirelessly and access the internet.
I would like to change the SSID however so that it no longer reflects the now defunct companies name.
I cannot determine what IP address is assigned to the access point so I can't figure out how to access the management page.
I tried connecting to the ethernet port via a DB9 to RJ45 cable and hyper terminal. After connecting the cable and powering up the access point I am still unable to connect.
I realize once I get connected I will probably run into password issues, but I'd like to figure out how to get at least that far.
    Any ideas?

since ur gonna change the ssid and there is a password...
    1. reset the ap. before plugging power to ap, press hold the mode button for 3 sec or until the led becomes orange or amber, then release.
    2. the ap is reset to default setting with ip address 10.0.0.1
    3. either console or gui the ap and change the bvi to ur preferred ip address.
    4. configure everything else as you want.

  • Define access point to connect?

A couple of applications on my phone, particularly Ovi Maps keep doing this and it's getting REALLY annoying.
Start using the application, it comes up with the following:
"Network connection required.Define access point to connect?
Then it'll give me a selection from a list of my networks various protocols.
It will regularly ask me again and again while the app is running, often coming up in front of other applications i am using at the time!
    How can I stop this?
I don't want to have to define anything for specific applications. I want my phone to connect in one of two ways without my input:
    1. If I am within range of a Wifi connection it knows, connect via that.
    2. If not, connect via 'O2 Active'
Is there a way I can set this so my phone just does the above and never asks again?

It is the Assisted GPS positioning method access found in Menu > Settings > Application Settings > Positioning > Positioning server use which keeps asking for a Network access point not OVI Maps application itself which may be set "Offline" or "Online".
If you have not set "Save location info" = No - in Camera > Options > Settings - you may get the same response.

  • Cisco 1200 Access Points as Bridges - Won't work

I could use some help. I have a pair of Cisco 1200 AP's that I'm trying to use as bridges.
I have selected one as a Root Bridge, the other as Non-Root. The non-root shows the wireless interface down and the log reveals 'no association'.
I have verified NO security, identical SSID's, broadcast SSID, no encryption, no WEP, they are sitting 10 feet apart, same channels, etc. etc.
Can a 1200 access point serve as a bridge?

I went to Security > SSID Manager and selected the only SSID as the infrastructure SSID and it did nothing. If there is another place to toggle 'Infrastructure SSID' on and off other than by assigning one, I'm unaware of it.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Access points dropping up and down

I have anywhere from 5-20 access points drop up and down throughout the day out of a total of around 200. I am currently trying to go through and figure out why we our access points are having some many issues and how I might be able to resolve them.
One of the logs that I commonly see is:
AP 'exp-p13', interface '802.11a' on Controller '10.2.192.25'. Channel changed to '44' from '60' due to 'None'. Interference Energy before update is '0' and after update is '0'. Noise before update is '0' and after update is '0'. Interference before update is '0' and after update is '0'.
Is there anyway to determine what the cause of this is?
    Controller Firmware: 4.2.130.0.
    AP Model AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9
    IOS Version 12.4(10b)JA4

If you have time sensitive app's then YES. If you have only data use and you see re-associations... also YES. I would either follow the site survey doc for channel or I would let RRM do it's thing for a couple days and get a baseline. I would then look at the power and channel to see how often it changes or not for a couple days. If I think it does change too frequently, I will set it to on demand or off. Usually if there is voice, I will set the power to 25mW and let RRM figure the channel before I disable the feature. Verify with the site survey, usually they will have the ap set to a recommended power setting when they did the site survey.
If you set it to on demand or turn the feature off, do check the channels the wlc set the ap's too.... might not be the best choice :)

  • Is there any way I can control which specific access point I connect (and stay connected) to from amongst a set of access points with the same SSID?

I'm working from a boat in a harbor in which the ISP has deployed numerous access points around the periphery.  All the access points share the same SSID and each is configured to use either channel 1, 6 or 11.   From my location, there are over a dozen of these access points "visible" (based on the the output of WiFi Scanner) with a range of RSSI and S/N values that vary over time.
The ISP has told me that the quality of my connection should be "perfectly fine" for any access point with an RSSI value better than -75, but I know from experience that my connection quality is miserable (i.e. < 50Kbps download) for almost all of these, including those with RSSI values better than -75.  There is at least one exception, however, which gives me on the order of 2Mbps download, which is "great" in this context.
I've tried using a more powerful USB antenna plugged into my MacBook Air (mid 2011), but as far as I can tell, it really doesn't make much difference.  Neither does my location within the boat.   The overriding factor seems to be which access point I happen to connect up to.
I should point out that the closest access points are about 75 yards away, with many of them being several hundred yards away or more.  I'm guessing that even though the signal strength of some of the distant access points is causing them to get "chosen" some times, the results are unacceptable due to the distance.
I'm hoping that I can determine, through experimentation, which access point(s) provide(s) acceptable performance and then configure my Mac to limit my connection to those points through whatever mechanism I need to use (e.g. channel, MAC id, etc.).

Establishing a wireless connection with a client computer is left to the access point for various reasons. One reason that your Mac may not connect to the strongest access point is that it may have reached a limit of the number of clients it can serve, leaving it unable to accept a connection with another. The limit may not be very large.
Suppose that happens, and your Mac establishes a connection with a more distant access point having a weaker signal. Then, suppose a client drops off the network. Doesn't this mean your Mac will switch to the stronger access point? Not necessarily. The throughput delivered to and from your Mac would have to drop below a threshold specified in the AP for it to drop the client, leaving your Mac free to connect with another one. The reason for this is to prevent rapid switching from one AP to another in an area in which two signals are of approximately equal quality. If that were to occur the frequent and repetitive handshaking between the two devices would slow throughput to zero.
In an environment in which several access points are broadcasting the same SSID, Apple provides no insight as to how it determines which access point to choose. This is the reason I suspect this "choice" is a function of the router, or access point. The connection originates with it, not the Mac.
Now, what would solve your dilemma would be to determine a way to control the access point with which your Mac connects, by specifying the access point's unique MAC address for example. In this happy circumstance, you could maintain an editable "whitelist" or "blacklist" of the harbor's access points and be able to choose which among them you prefer.
I do not believe OS X maintains such a record of MAC addresses though, only those of the routers it uses. If I am correct about that, such a solution is unlikely to exist. Don't let that discourage you from searching for one though... I would concentrate on something like "selecting access point by specific MAC address".
I did find this patent application though:
Roaming Network Stations Using A Mac Address Identifier To Select New Access Point

  • Apple TV as Airport access point if connected via LAN

    Hi!
I thought about the possibility to use the new Apple TV as Airport/WLAN access point in the case that it is connected via LAN. You don't need an Airport Express and you got Airport/WLAN/HDMI/Audio in all rooms (and around that room) you connect an Apple TV to. Nice and best for hotels!
Vice versa: If you connect it via Airport to use the ethernet port as a hub/switch to connect devices. I think this should be possible and hope that it's only a firmware update...
Next step is not only to playback videos/photos from other devices. Just use it as a main or second screen for all kind of devices (Computer Extensions forMac OS X/Windows other will follow...).
You don't have to connect a notebook to a beamer anymore. There's only the AppleTV connected to a beamer. The video comes via Airport/WLAN /LAN.
Make the USB Plug useful to connect printers or storage devices!!!
That should be great and makes Apple TV the most useful device ton install it in every room in the house!!!
I think, if the Apple TV can be connected to any kind of device, it shouldn't be Apple's hobby anymore.

  • WRT54G as Access Point & Intermittent Connectivity

So I followed the advice found here
    http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=26177
Hooking up a wired router to my WRT54G Router, which I am trying to use as an access point. I've set my LAN IP to 192.168.1.2, disabled DHCP, cables plugged into LAN ports, not the WAN port.I also changed it to Router Mode instead of gateway mode.
The problem is my wired router is my landlord's, and I don't have access to it. Anyway, I can usually connect, but sometimes it disconnects repeatedly, and it seems like i can't keep a connection for more than 5 minutes.
The problem doesn't seem to nearly as bad when I'm plugged directly into the wall (but there have been a couple times when I've gotten disconnected).
My theory is that I may be getting something mixed up with regards to my assigned IP address. When I'm plugged in i'm 192.168.1.108, but when I connect to the wireless, i'm almost always 192.168.1.100, even though there's only one DHCP server on the network. (this is just a guess, though)
Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

I've updated the router's firmware I forgot to mention that in the original post. Are you sure regarding the "gateway mode", the little help blurb on the routers settings says that gateway should only be used when the router is the part of the network that deals directly with the wider internet. I am pretty sure I've tried it in both modes and was having this problem, because it was definately Gateway

  • How can I see "access point" for "connection method" to use Bluetooth tethering?

I have been using WiFi tethering.  However, as everybody knows, the battery of my Nexus 5 goes down so fast.  Now I wish to use Bluetooth tethering.  I updated my Nexus 5 to Android 5.0.  I have a desktop PC, notebook PC and new Surface
Pro 3 all with Windows 8.1 Update.  Up to pairing everything goes OK but when I click the "Nexus 5" graphic on the control panel, I could see only "direct connection" (no "access point").  Some website indicates "KB290440"
but it is not found in the history of update.   I would therefore appreciate if somebody would kindly help me to use Bluetooth tethering.
By the way, the Windows system I am using is Japanese.
    Thank you in advance.

Some website indicates "KB290440" but it is not found in the history of update.
That's the latest "servicing stack".  I think it is optional.  More significant I think would be whether you have the latest rollup, which is also optional, so far.  E.g. at the top of View your update history see what you have for

  • How to configure wrt54g router as an access point when connected to a 3Com switch

I'm trying to use my linksys router as an access point to keep from having to make more network drops. I can't figure out which IP address/gateway to use on my router to get it to communicate with my switch. The 3Com switch address is 10.1.10.250, gateway is 10.1.10.1, netmask is 255,255,255,0.The linksys router has been reset to defaults.
I know that it can be done but I'm having the hardest time making it work.

For the DD-WRT firmware, you can try this link .
For the price of your Acess Point you can try this link .

  • Which outdoor access points to connect two buildings (500ft distance)?

    Hello,
We have a client that needs to wirelessly connect two buildings at their location, around 500ft over a parking lot.  There are no significant line-of-sight obstructions.  Which outdoor access points would be most suitable for this, and what is the maximum speed we can expect from such a connection?
    Thanks
    Tim

You can configure point-to-point wireless bridging.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008058f53e.shtml
Next, you can use either indoor access point or outdoor/mesh access point.  I'd recommend indoor.  Since it's going to be point-to-point, no need to get an AP that can support 802.11n because it's not supported.  This brings your choices down to a Cisco 1242 (dual radios).
In regards to antennaes, AIR-ANT2410Y is a contender.  Have a look at the complete portfolio for more information.

  • Use WRT110 as a wireless access point to connect desktop computer to a WRT160N network.

I am having a problem setting my WRT110 connected to a desktop computer, as an access point to a net broadcast by a WRT160N. The WRT connects to the desktop computer, but does not see the WRT169N network. A laptop with 802.11g sitting next to the desktop is able to link to the WRT160N network, although the signal is weak, but workable. Has anyone any ideas on how to use the WRT110 as as access point rather than a router. I spoke with CISCO technician level 2, and he says it can't be done. CISCO website for WRT110 describes it as three devices in one, one being a wireless access point. CISCO technician says get a WAP, but I think I should be able to use the WRT110. Help appreciated.

Linksys Wireless Routers (WRT...) are simple access points. They don't establish a connection to any other wireless device. They only allow wireless access for clients. That's the definition for an access point: to be a point of access into the LAN for clients. It is a common misconception that a "wireless access point" would always include bridging or repeating capabilities although that is a completely different mode of operation.
What you want is not an access point but a wireless repeater (WRE) or a wireless bridge (WET) or a combination. The Linksys WAPs are versatile wireless devices which can be operated as access point, repeater, and bridge.

  • Cisco aironet 1200 Series access point dropping clients

We are having an issue where our Cisco Aironet 1220 Series AP is constantly dropping clients. We have 3 APs mounted on a single tower, all out of each others range and freq. There are approximatly 30 clients on each AP. We are noticing an increase in dropped customers (up to 20 at a time). ANy suggestions? This only became an issue in the last few weeks, and nothing major has changed.

    Hi
Even I was facing almost the same kind of problem. But in my case it was wired clients to the workgroup bridge 350.
I had done lot of testings and reading at that time to resolve this problem.
However in your case I feel your problem can be resolved by keeping the option "Reliable multicast for Workgroup bridges" disabled in the APs under dot11radio interface settings. This is possibly because the radios cannot associate to more than 20 clients at a time if the option is in the enable mode.
You need to keep this option enabled in a root bridge when you have problems of dropping the wired clients to the workgroup bridge.
By keeping this option enabled, you are actually asking the Root bridges to consider the Workgroup bridges as Infrastructure devices and not as clients thereby making the roots to send all the multicasts to the WGBs. However in that case it losses the efficiency of associating more than 20 clients.
Let me know if this resolves your problem.
