120GB of music and other audio with nowhere to put it.

I have a ton of music and various audio but no hard drive space on my iBook. All my music is stored on external hard drives. I want to get a computer to use solely for iTunes. I don't expect much sympathy, but is there a cheap PC I could get or should I stick with a Mac.

Off the top of my head, two suggestions:
1. Have you considered purchasing a used iBook/MacBook? Personally, I would rather have one of those than a new, budget-priced Windows PC; especially if I were purchasing the thing solely for use with iTunes. The Windows version does not integrate with the operating system as well as the Mac version does, for obvious reasons.
2. What Meg said. A terabyte internal hard drive will give you plenty of space, and is a lot cheaper than a second computer.

  • I bought an ipod touch at a pawn shop and it has account registered to another person on itunes. i was wondering since i started my own account with itunes and tried to sync the music and other apps to my account would it erase everything on the ipod

i bought an ipod touch at a pawn shop and it has account and registered to another person on it and i don't know the password. and i started my own itunes account on the computer and when i connect the ipod to the computer the other persons account shows up to be synced to the computer and when i hit the sync button it says that the ipod can only be synced to one library at a time. then it says that it would erase his library contents and all other apps in order for it to be synced to my account. so i was wondering if there is anyway to sync all the music and other apps to my account with out it erasing everything on the ipod.

Do what iTunes is telling you to do.  Wehn you purchased the iPod the apps and other media do not transfer to you.  Then are permently locked/lienced only to the person who purchased them.  Using the stuff on the iPod is stealing.

  • Restoring Voice Track from Music and other elements - NOT KARAOKE Question

I have a 60 second mix of an audio track that combines voice, music and other natural sound elements...in otherwords, it's the end product.
I also have the Final Cut Pro timeline the project was created from, with all the raw elements in their proper spots EXCEPT the voice track. The voice track was deleted.
I need to try and restore JUST A CLEAN COPY OF THE VOICE-TRACK, without any of the elements mixed with it.
In there a way of using inversion (or some other features) and SOUNDTRACK PRO with the elements I have, to try and get a clean copy of JUST THE VOICE TRACK back?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No. inversion and voicekilling only works when you want to kill (actually dim) a mono signal within a stereo channel. e.g. you could kill a kickdrum in a heavy reverbed musicbed. In your case, you want to kill the rest, and leave the voice, the mono part, intact. That's impossible. I think you have to record again..

  • ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

    Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
    About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
    Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
    Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
    1. Close iTunes.
    2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
    1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
    2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
    Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
    Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
    1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
    2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
    3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
    Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
    Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
    1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
    2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
    3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
    Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.
      Other OS

    Holy Smokes:
I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.

  • Sharing apps, music ,and other information on 2 different pc and iphones.

my wife brought here 3g iphone first and has put appts, music and other information in itunes ,can I transfer the information to my itunes and scynch with my iphone?

The only data stored by iTunes in the iTunes library is iTunes content - music, video, podcasts, etc. including 3rd party apps. No other data is stored by iTunes. iTunes serves as the sync conduit between your iPhone and the supported applications on your computer for syncing contact info, calendar events, Safari bookmarks, and for transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone, but iTunes does not store any of this data.
You can transfer an iTunes library from one computer to another, but you will need to use your wife's iTunes account with iTunes on your computer if you currently have your own separate iTunes account.

How do I transfer my MacBook Air to my wife so she can sync her iTunes account and other settings with her iPad Mini?

You can change the account shortname to whatever you wish to use.
As you can see from my example above. Once you click on the Create User button a new account will be created.
She will need to get her own Apple ID setup so when she starts with iTunes she can open her own iTunes account unless you both want to share the use of the same Apple ID. This can create a bit of confusion if you have your own iPads or iPhones or iPods. As you have discovered it's pretty much one iDevice with one Apple ID.
As for the iTunes library that becomes a more complicated issue.

    - Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
    - Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck

Trying to move my iTunes Music and other media from the main drive on my pc to an external hard drive but iTunes is not recognizing the new file location?  Ideas?

    Hello there, Underwriter.
The following Knowledge Base article provides in-depth instructions on how to migrate your content to an external drive:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
Particularly of note for your situation:
    External drive
This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
    Notes before you start:
You can use most iPods as an external drive.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC. See iPod: How to determine iPod's hard disk format if you're not sure how your iPod is formatted.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.
Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder
Part 2: Copy iTunes folder from the old computer:
Part 3: Get iTunes ready on your new computer
Part 4: Back up any music that's already on your new computer
Part 5: Copy music to your new computer
Part 6: Add preexisting music that was on the new computer back into the library
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

    Pedro.

If you want to drag and drop ( don;t know why you would do this), you will have to check manually manage music.
    Why not just sync?

  • How can I control my pc and other computers with my ipod touch 5 gen ?

    Hello
I have recently bought an iPod 5th Generation and I'm very happy with it !! My question is.
I have an old laptop iBook and it is connected to a hard disk where I stock my music.... So basically, this old computer is my jukebox. The only problem is that the screen on the iBook doesnt work very well (I must press really strong alongside the mousepad in order to see something). So I was wondering if I could control and see (select music and more), from my iPod touch ? Should I absolutely need to have an Apple TV ?
Is there an APP so I could control my iBook from my Ipod ?
I also have another laptop (PC) and I was wondering if I could control everything from my ipod touch ? It could be really fun.
    Many thanks, C.

The is the Apple Remote app that will allow yo to plave your iTunes music via the iPod.
There aree also apps that allow controllig the entire computer via the iPod. See:

  • Battery not recognised - and other issues with 867MHz Ti Book

Ok - here`s my story - I wonder if anyone can give me advice
    on what to do next.
A week ago I started having trackpad issues with my tibook.
On 2 consecutive mornings the trackpad seemed to have frozen, held down. So that it brought up menus if the mouse was moved over one of the bars at the top of the screen. I wasn`t however, able to `click` on anything. An external
mouse, when plugged in, also didn`t work, though I was able to navigate the display using the keyboard shortcuts.
The first morning this happened, the OS also appeared to reset itself. ie the screen display picture went back to its original state - and all of the applications that i subsequently opened gave me a first time user `welcome` message. However, all of my files/photos/music etc were intact.
When the trackpad was working I backed everything up, ran
the hardware test cd, which came up clear, and called apple. They picked up the computer, which is under
warranty, on Friday, and at the time it was working fine.
I got the computer back yesterday, but unrepaired, and
with a new set of faults. Apple told me that they had checked the computer and had found
some evidence on the logic board, power in and bottom case
of past liquid spillage - but no other problems with the
computer. I don`t deny the liquid spillage ( a few ml of
    water), although it
occurred 11 months ago and I have not had any problems with
the computer since 24 hours after the spill.
The state of the computer now that Apple have sent it back
is as follows: The trackpad is working. However, the computer is not recognsing the battery, or the wireless
networking Buffalo pc card. The clock also resets one out
of every 2 or 3 times that I restart the computer. These problems did not occur before I sent the computer to Apple.
Yesterday I erased and reinstalled 10.4 just in case that had
something to do with it - but it has not helped
    So - my questions.
    1. Could my current problems be to do with the spillage
on the logic board 11 months ago?
    2. Could my new problems be to do with something that Apple
did when testing the computer this week?
    3. Is there anything else that I should try in order to solve the issues that I`m having with the computer?
    4. If it is a logic board problem, can anyone recommend
a UK repair centre that would deal with this cheaply (otherwise i will probably buy a new computer - as this
one is coming up for 3 years)?
    Thanks,
    Antony

    Hi Antony,
    1. Could my current problems be to do with the spillage
on the logic board 11 months ago?
Yes. Corrosion occurs over time, and it could have taken 11 months to reach "critcal mass."
    2. Could my new problems be to do with something that Apple
did when testing the computer this week?
Theoretically, any time anyone does anything inside your PB, they could have caused additional issues, however, this would not be "normal."
    3. Is there anything else that I should try in order to solve the issues that I`m having with the computer?
    4. If it is a logic board problem, can anyone recommend a UK repair centre that would deal with this cheaply (otherwise i will probably buy a new computer - as this one is coming up for 3 years)?
Before paying for a new LB or a new PB, try a PMU Reset and Test PB Backup Battery.

  • Clipping sound and other things with Logic X 10.0.6

Hi 2 everyones, I notify all about strange things when run Logic X but not only in my new iMac 27" the same in older Mac Pro mid 2008.
In my Home Studio I use with satisfaction this Mixer with USB 2.0 interface.
In this early 2014 change my iMac 21,5" (late 2009) with iMac 27" core i7. From start using Logic X, after recording audio track sometimes the sound distorce, clip and sometimes not.
I’ve try everything (disconnect USB, reset logic,..) but the problem persist.
And another thing that happen in my iMac and other Mac Pro, when (shift+W) edit the audio file with Soundtrack pro (the first time) try to save and return to logic but STP stall (colored whirl), must use forced escape, than re edit and save normally and come back to Logic.
When change from Logic to STP (and reverse) notify center tell me that I’ve change my midi interface but the strange thing is that I deactivate notification center in Logic….. Can someone tell me more??
PS. I read something in this discussion but confusign me too much
    Thanks

Ok, the first problem was gone when I completely reset PRAM and VRAM.
But the second is still there. When I open Logic x, and then want to edit externally (with STP) the file (SHIFT+W) edit it and then try to save, STP stall, and I must force quit. Then the second time i re-edit externally the file open it in STP edit, save and that's is fine....why?

iTunes has compilations or samplers for sale of, for example, Folk Music or Reggae, usually with 3 levels of inclusion: a beginner selection, one which includes more, and a deeply inclusive set. Many of these are very good but since upgrading iTunes I can't figure out how to find these. How do I find these in iTunes to purchase them?

If for some reason you failed to import any purchases made on your iphone to your computer, not good, then
