120gb suddenly says No Music, yet it still says there is only 9.1gb free

It appears that all of my songs on my ipod are erased, but it still says there is only 9.1 gb of space free, so are all the songs on there still? is there any way i can get all of the songs to appear on the ipod again?
when i plug the ipod into my computer, itunes doesnt recognize it and it totally freezes up both itunes and firefox. i tried reseting the ipod to no avail. restoring it is my last resort as ive spent hundreds of hours filling that b*tch up.

Sometimes the iPod's library gets corrupted and is replaced with a new blank library. Your existing files will then be classed by the iPod as "Other" data, the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos that are in the library.
If you have copies of all your media in iTunes this isn't really a problem as you can simply restore your iPod, but if you've been manually managing the content then I guess you'll want to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library which yours obviously doesn't however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post would work.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

If you deleted from within the OS, did you empty the Trash?

IF I delete my apple ID on my phone, will my music and my applications still be there?

All apps, music, etc that were purchased with your current ID are permanently tied to it and can't be transferred to another one.
What you want to do is change it so it is associated with a new email address.

  • My i pod 160g says it has only 470 mb free and will not sync it only has 20 songs on it it also refuses  to reset

my ipod 160g says it only has473 mb free and only 20 songs on it
    will not sync or reset

    Hallelujah!
First I reset the iPod Classic by simultaneously pressing <menu> and <select>.  As soon as the Apple logo appeared I pressed simultaneously <select> and <pause-play>.  That enabled disc use.  From thereon I connected the iPod to an old desktop running Windows XP and iTunes version 8.n.n.  It allowed me to restore the iPod but syncing proved erratic.  It would stop after say 30-40 songs.
So I bravely connected it to my usual desktop running Vista and iTunes version 10.5.3.3 and behold, It restored the iPod and synced the entire music library just as before!
Needless to say I shan't be syncing this little baby again.  There is enough music on it to last me on a long flight to the end of the world and back!
Thanks for your help and I hope others may like to try this method.
Now a secret  - I called the Apple help line and a nice lady from the Portugal call centre told me to press the buttons in that sequence to get it going as a disk.  She has also emailed me some helpful articles but I did not need to read them.
    Thank you Apple!

  • 128MB flash drive has no files on it but says there is only 18MB free??

I plugged in my 128MB flash drive and deleted all the files off of it. When I put it in the USB port and open it, no files are there (as expected) but it tells me there is only 17.8MB of free space. Are there files I cannot see?

There might be a simpler way, particularly since this is such a small capacity drive, and you'll run out of space fairly often. This way, you can delete only the files you want to.
Next time, before you delete a file off this drive, note the space available in finder. Now delete the file. You'll probably see that the space available stays the same.
Now empty the trash, just the main trash folder, not something special on the drive. You'll probably see the space available on the external drive go up. Your old files were "deleted" from the file structure, and not showing, but they're still there until you empty the trash. At least, that's how it works on my Macs. It may be possible to set it up differently.

  • My 2GB Lexar usb drive says there is only 74mb available?

Just went through to delete all the stuff off my thumbdrive to put new stuff on (by dragging it all into trash) and it said there was only 74mb available, when it is a 2gig drive - how do i format or bring it back up to its full capacity (of 1.89)?
Also, I tried pulling a folder into it, then removed that folder, and the capacity went down to 51mb.

Tom is quite right -- if the Icon for the Trash (the wire basket) shows a wire basket with papers in it, your files have been Moved to the Trash, but not yet Deleted. If you open the Trash Icon, there they are!
When you choose Empty Trash from the Finder's Finder menu, the wire basket with papers should turn into a wire basket -- empty. And the space recovered from deleting the files should be corectly reflected.

  • 298GB HD suddenly says it is only 1GB

I have a 297.77GB hard drive which, one day after trying to download A SMALL PICTURE, a message came up saying "Safari could not download the file ... because there is not enough free disk space. Try deleting documents or downloading to another disk." and it says that for anything that I try to download now.
    and here's hard drive information:
    Capacity: 297.77 GB
    Available: 254.9 GB
    Used: 42.88 GB on disk
and, yet, whenever I click on the Apple logo in the top right of the computer, and go to "About This Mac." it says:
    Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    ...1GB?
can anyone please help me fix this problem? I am unable to download anything, yet I am supposed to have 254 GB left
    thank you!

    How would I change that?
In Safari, click on Safari in the Title Bar (top of page) and then Preferences . Next hit the General tab at the top of the Preferences window and about 60% down the page it says "Save downloaded file to:" and then it names a location with Downloads as the default. This can be changed and I would suggest Desktop until you get this sorted out. -GDF

  • Disk Utility says I have only 115kb of free space left, but Finder says 1TB is this why my computer is slow?

I want to instal the beta version of Yosemite on a partition, but when I open Disk Utility to do so, it won't allow me. After pressing the plus sign at the bottom of the screen I can not enter a value for the size. When I look down at the very bottom I read the following:
    Capacity: 3.12TB
    Available: 115KB
    Used: 3.12TB
My trash is empty and Finder says I have 1TB in free space available, so what's going on?
Perhaps related, my computer has been unreasonably slow (which is why I want to take the Beta for spin). I'm thinking there might be a connection. Is there a way to clear the detailed space so that Disk Utility will recognize it? In an attempt to speed things up I just reinstalled Maverick but nothing happened. I still can't partition and my computer is still slow.
    Everything is up to date.

  • Suddenly, one of my iPhoto Libraries will not open, or rather iPhoto opens, but says there are no photos in the file.  However, when I backed it up and looked into it otherwise, the images 86gigs are still there in the file. What to do??

Suddenly, one of my iPhone libraries will not open with 86 gigs of images: it opens and says there are no photos, yet by other looking, all the images are there and when backing up, it takes an hour.
Somehow iPhoto application will not recognize the images (over 13,000) in the file.
Any suggestions as to how to fix the matter<
    Dr. Harris, Bermuda

To move from iPhoto 08 (which is v7) to iPhoto 11 (which is v9) requires that you purchase iPhoto 11. Your software update is running just fine. V7.1.5 is last version of iPhoto 08.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
    As to the problematic library:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Any ideas how to sort this out? hope i haven't majorly screwed it up. thanks.
