120Hz output on MSI Notebooks

If you haven’t been living under a rock lately, you’ve noticed that not only is higher resolution monitors in extreme demand, but also 120Hz ones. As you might know, in case your panel has a refresh rate of 60Hz (which is standard for PC monitors), you will not notice any difference in framerate above 60 FPS. This is because 1Hz = 1 oscillation per second, meaning a 60Hz panel refreshes 60 times per second, and subsequently a 120Hz panel does this twice as often. Even screens with refresh rates as high as 240Hz exist.

Does this work even on mini-displayport? or just normal displayport? like if i connect monitor to my asus rog swift 144Hz monitor from DP to mini-DP from my laptop will that then be able to run at 144Hz?

MSI Notebook GX640, black screen with games

I own for two years MSI Notebook G series GX640 (Intel Core i5-460M, Ati Mobility RadeonHD 5850, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD). Recently I had to send it to the manufacturer because of a audiocard malfunction. It was the last call to do it on the warranty. It ended around a week ago (2 years warranty). The service guy filled an information for me (standard procedure). It stated: repair the audioboard and new ventilation installed. It seems they run some tests and updated the BIOS. After that I had some time (around 2 weeks) of cool work on the machine. Until recently... Here is a description of the problem.
During more demanding programs (games mostly) the PC runes smoothly for some minutes (10, 15, 20 or so) and without warning goes black screen. Sometimes you can still hear the sound from the game other times no. Also if I unplug the power cable and plug it back it sometimes goes to a very uneasy state with stripes on the monitor.
I tried to fix this by updating the CCC from ATI, also updated the video card drivers, today flashed the BIOS using the MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and BIOS Helper. I used the 1656_031 archive from MSI. Searched the forum and the web for info and help... but no luck. So I post here with hope for help.
I suspect this is not an issue of hardware. If I turn off the PC and start it again works fine, I was also able to upload 2GB of video files to YouTube with no problems at all. As long as I run OS (Windows 7 64bit) or programs like text editors, browsers, video editors, audio editors, internet radio etc. It runes fine. But when I start games it just a no go. To give an example: Mass Effect 3, StarCraft II, Saint's Raw The Third, Borderlands.
My BIOS information; don't know if it will help:

Right after I end writing this post and publish it I will try to open the Notebook to at least try find any suspicious things inside. I will probably clean it, but there will be no real hardware intervention. I'm not that good with IT or electronics to try it by myself. So if any just cleaning from dust and a look inside.
P.S. There is one more test I might try tomorrow, run a game on a TV through HDMI to see if the problem will occur if it will that means it's not the display.
UPDATE:
Seems playing games in window mode might eliminate the problem. All above test's were done if full screen.

Can A1289 support 1080P 120Hz output

I meet a problem, the monitor (support 1080P 120Hz) show no signal while change the resolution to 1080P 120Hz in mac pro A1289 by DVI/HDMI cable.

Recently I have bought this notebook: MSI GE70-i550M287FD FreeDOS.
I have installed Windows 7 on it. However, after barely using this notebook 2 weeks I have already encountered some troublesome problems.
First of all I had some troubles using the Driver CD which came along with the notebook. I was able to manually install most of the drivers that were present though. But I have recently found out that I my notebook somehow is unable to install ANY diver by itself or so. e.g. whenever I try to connect my printer, it tells me that it was unable to download/install the needed drivers for the printer. Therefore I am not able to use it. The same goes up for likewise devices which require drivers being installed before use. An external harddisk and a mouse are the only things that will connect.
Then there is another problem: When I go to device manager I see this:
I haven´t got a clue what it is for and what to do about it. However I do have a feeling it has something to do with my first inquiry.
Lastly there is a problem regarding windows update. I am unable to do anythign with it or updating anything as I keep getting the following message:
I haven´t got clue how this came to be and what to do about it.. It´s very hard for me as I am not a computer expert.
Despite these problems I am still havign a great time with my purchase!
I hope that you will be able to help me in these troublesome matters.

Why can I get 4k output from MSI Radeon HD 5450 on Win XP but not Win 7?

A few months ago I bought a msi Radeon 5450 Graphics Card.
I was surprised impressed that I could get 4k output (3840 x 2160) on my SEIKI monitor (via HDMI at 30Hz). This exceeds the specification!!!
However, when I took this Graphics card from my Win XP box and put in Windows 7, I can't run at 4k. The highest resolution choice is 1920 x 1080.
In Win XP, I just had to do "Detect Displays" in CCC and the 3840 x 2160 resolution would show up as a choice.
But when I do "Detect Displays" in CCC in Windows 7, I don't get the 3840 x 2160 as a choice. I only get 1080 as a choice.
I did notice the Catalyst Control Centre (CCC) program between Windows XP and Windows 7 is different.
The Win 7 PC, has an APU (not sure if that has any bearing).
Can anyone advise what I can do?

I just became a PROUD owner of the MSI GS70 stealth notebook~! I must say it is a fantastic piece of WORKK...
Anyhoo, I was told by my retailer to register the notebook online. I found the website: https://register.msi.com/event_2013/sg_home/XXX and keyed in my serial number. When I choose my product type to "Notebook", it just stuck at the MSI loading "popup" - the one with the blue loading bar. I tried all the browsers I have installed: Chrome, Firefox, and IE. None works. I wonder if anyone has the same problem~!

When you register online you get a 3 month bonus warranty extension but to get full warranty you MUST send them by fax or regular mail a hard copy of your purchase receipt to get the full 2 yr warranty. And you must do this in the first 30 days after purchase. It says so on the website registration form. I faxed mine with a request for confirmation and all is good.

MSI Notebook GX630 BIOS WRITE-PROTECTED?

I have an MSI GX630 Notebook and I have to update to the latest BIOS...
When i'm trying to update, I get this message: "Error: BIOS is write protected"
Tried to flash under windows (afuwin) and real dos mode (afudos), same error. I didn't found any bios protection setting in BIOS... Is there a key combination to disable write-protection?
Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Windows 7 installation SOP for MSI Notebook

一.   Unboxing
Except the notebook, there are some accessories, such as driver disc, battery, AC adapter, and mouse.
二.   Preparing tools
A.   Windows7 original installation disc
B.   Prepare the drivers
i.   Use the drivers in driver disc.
ii.   Directly download them from MSI official website and get them ready
(Go to MSI official website >>Search models>>Download>>Driver>>download all drivers, and then select Utility tab to download all utilities.)
C.   If there’s no optical drive in your model, for example: GS70 or GE40, you will need to prepare a optical drive.
三.   Windows 7 installation
A.   Put in the Windows installation disc. (The picture is for reference. Please ignore the texts.)
B.   Push down the power button to boot up.
C.   Set the boot mode to legacy mode in BIOS UEFI page, and press F10 to save and exit.
D.   After the notebook rebooting, press F11 key to invoke the boot-up men. Select to boot up from optical drive.
E.   When there’s a line “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD” shown on the left-top corner of the screen, please press any key to boot up from it.
F.   Select “Next” to proceed.
G.   Select “Install now”.
H.   Check “I accept the license terms” and select “Next”.
I.   Select “Drive options (advanced)” to define the segmentation of the hard drive.
J.   Select “NEW”. If you want to divide the whole space into 2 partitions, please fill in the volume number of the C disk and press “Apply”. Or, apply all space as the system drive and directly press “Apply”.
K.   Select “OK” to acknowledge the message and select “NEXT” to begin the installation.
L.   Input the user name and then press “Next”.
M.   Input the wanted password. If you don’t need it, directly select “Next”.
N.   Enter the product key of this Windows and select “Next”.
O.   Select “Use recommended settings”.
P.   Select your time zone, local time and date. Then press “Next”.
Q.   Complete the installation. Go to the Desktop.
四.   Installation of the drivers and utilities.
A.   Installation of the driver disc.
i.   After booting up to the OS, eject your Windows installation disc and put in the driver disc.
ii.   When AutoPlay shows up, select “Run CDSetup.exe”.
iii.   Select the tab “Install Driver” and then there will be all drivers shown on the right hand side of the window. Please install all of them one by one. (Ignore the installation script)
iV. After all drivers were installed completely, please reboot the system. Then, run the driver disc again and select “Utility” tab this time. There will be also some utilities shown on the right hand side of the window. (Ignore the installation steps.) When installing the Sound Blaster Cinema EQ, the installation will only show a blink of the cursor. There won’t be any message shown when installation is completed.
B.   Download drivers from MSI official website to install.
i.   Go to MSI official website and enter the model on the right-top corner of the webpage to search the product.
ii. Select “Download”.
iii. Select “Download” >> “Driver” >> “Please select your operating system first” and then download all drivers for every device one by one.
iv. Select “Utility” >> “Please select your operating system first” >> select “SCM/ Sound Blaster Cinema AP/EQ/ Keyboard LED Manager” one by one.
v. Extract all zipped installers of the drivers and begin to install all of them one by one (ignore the installation script). After the installation is finished, please reboot the system to complete the installations of the drivers and utilities.

I think people have detested like me the Metro changes but then I just hit a key and I am back to desktop - it runs better and smoother and 8.1 has made booting to desktop option one of the first things you can set and it walks you through it.
OEM is fine, cannot transfer to another computer is all, and I would follow the "a newer version" link.
Windows 7 even with SP1 is 3 yrs old, and a lot of tweaking and improvements went under the hood.
See if you can google a review of games under 8/8.1 that you use.
Buy now might even want to see if there are or will be any free upgrades to 8.1 or not.

Subwoofer output from ZS Notebook to Recie

Hi. I needed to boost my subwoofer's output from my soundcard to my reciever. The cable that I use to connect from my SB Audigy2 ZS Notebook to my Sony STR-DE898 is a Creative Labs Home Theater Cable with 8 RCA plugs. The subwoofer I use is from an Inspire T7700 and I'm using it as an acti've subwoofer, which connects from the Sony STR-DE898's subwoofer output to the RCA plug of a T7700 subwoofer marked Subwoofer in the back. Setting the volume to the max isn't a problem because I can adjust the bass level in the T7700's remote. I don't have the bass level at max (I set it to about 40% from hte minimum position) but when I go into Multi In mode in my reciever, I have to have the bass level at max but creates a hum. I can barely hear the subwoofer. Even turning on the Bass Redirection in my Speaker Settings doesn't help! Boosting the bass in Surround Mixer and increasing the 25Hz frequency in the EQ affects all the speakers so that's not an option. Any ideals? Any low-cost RCA-in->RCA-out amplifiers?out there which will boost my subwoofer output? The ZS Notebook will go through the amp to my Subwoofer In of my STR-DE898 reciever. Thanks.

You just saved me from starting a new post... exact same problem I'm having. Were you able to solve it?
Only difference for me is:
* Pioneer 7.1 receiver with 7.1 speakers, and it receives a PCM 2.0 channel signal from my mac mini late 2012. Can only hear sound out of L+R speakers
* I also only get 2 channels for video through XBMC, as well as iTunes music playback
If I change my midi setup to 2 channel instead of 8, I can change my audio settings on the receiver to acheive "multichannel", but still nothing coming out of the subwoofer. So I'm getting 7.0 not 7.1. But don't see why I need to resort to this if Mac OS and Mac mini claim they support multichannel audio through HDMI. And I too rely heavily on the subwoofer, so this work-around is useless to me.
Was just told to first try to reset the Mini (unplug for 30 secs) and PRAM reset (Command+Option+P+R). Will try that when I get home later today.

MSI Notebook GE70

I am new to this forum and the reason I joined the forums is because I have been quite interested in MSI gaming notebooks lately and specially the GE70.
To the point of this thread:
I was looking around for a good powerful Notebook not only for gaming but to run powerful programs such as for an example Autocad for my studies and Protools for music making and yeah even a computer powerful enough to run games such as Battlefield 3. I have been doing some research on these computers and had my eyes for a while on the MSI GT780DXR and mostly because of the back-lit keyboard and these awesome colors you could yourself choose wich gave a great extra touch to this computer.
Later I thought I would wait abit since the price was a bit to high at that time for it specially here in Sweden so I would wait and see if MSI camed out with something similar but for a lower price or perhaps lower the price for the GT780DXR. After waiting they stop selling this model and released the GE60 and GE70 for a lower price and I thought this was really great and I thought that it was worth waiting for this new model and not was it only cheapier and slimmer but it was also in my opinion alot more cooler. This was great for me since I needed a computer that was a bit lighter for carrying it around which this one was compared to the GT780DXR.
This was the computer for me, it had everything I needed, I could afford it and it looked really great with its great screen and cool sport race lines on the backside.
After watching a review and I saw how much better it looked IRL I was completly decided until I saw one youtube comment stating it didnt have a back-lit keybord and that it was dissapointing. It was really dissapointing indeed since this was the main reason I caught my eyes on GT780DXR at the first time.
So my question to MSI wich I to for making these cool gaming netbooks and specially doing their best to make them slimmer and lighter, is there going to be realesed a similar computer in the near future with a back-lit keybord?

While I can't be 100% sure it can be done to the GE 60/70 series, I know that you can do it to the older GT780 series. You could get a replacement keyboard for the MSI GT60/70 series notebooks and install it into the GE60/70 series, I THINK. I'm not 100% certain, and don't quote me on this. But you might be able to do it.

But I wouldn't really expect too much. Most likely it will be impossible to make it the exact same as the GT60/GT70 simply because you probably need an Electronic Controller firmware update to support it as well, which probably won't happen.
That being said, I'd skip the GE60/GE70, and go for the GT60 if you really want/need the backlit keyboard option. You won't be disappointed.
I realize there's a bit of a price difference, with the GT70 starting at around $1500, compared to the $1200 that the GE70 is. I'd pay the extra $300. It's worth it.
