120w adapter on dv6-7014NR?

The HPShopping site lists the 120w ve025aa#aba as an acceptable charger for the dv6-7014NR.  But when you look at the page for that adapter the dv6 series is not listed.  The sales people told me that the 120w is NOT acceptable on the dv6-7014 but I am looking for someone on the tehnical side to confirm that.  That laptop has a 1080 display, bluray, discrete videocard, and core i7 among other things and I am thinking that configuration may in fact be accepable for the 120w adapter.  Can someone please confirm one way or the other?
Thanks.

Just to add, the Adapter size will vary depending upon the model, a dv6-7000 series notebook will not necessarily have the same Adapter as that of dv6- 6000 series. Be assured, your dv6-7014nr will work with a 120 W Adapter.

  • New dv6 7014nr runs too loud doing nothing

I recently purchased a dv6 7014nr a few days ago and have barely done anything on it. However, the fan noise is out of control. I've turned off hp coolsense but there is little difference. I don't even feel any air coming out of the vent on the side, but the computer just runs increadibly loud. The laptop doesn't overheat or anything it's just outrageously loud.
I really like the machine aside from this point and i want to do everything i can to try and fix this so i don't have to use something else.
I heard about "updating bios" and turning the feature "fan always on" off. I do, however, game quite a bit on this laptop and am worried about messing up the computer that way. This noise is just intolerable though. It's fine when i'm gaming, i understand that is using a lot of resources. But when the computer is so loud when i'm doing barely anything is what is driving me crazy
is there anything i can do? I've done research ont he internet and all i have found is that it's a design flaw with hp laptops which i hope i may be able to do something about because i don't want to have to returnthis machine.
    Thanks

See if you can go into a store that displays this machine and see if it is as loud as yours.  What worries me is that you can not feel and air flow. Can you see the fan blades with the aid of a flashlight and see if anything is blocking the flow of air like some plastic tape of packaging material. Does the sound make a noise like it is scraping metal fins or rubbing up against anything or just a normal loud fan? Do you monitor the temperature of your laptop? Do you use a notebook cooling pad? You really have to be able to feel the hot air coming out of the fan discharge area.

  • Is an HP 19.5V 6.15A 120W adapter compatible with HDX18?

My HDX18's original AC adapter died this week, and I've ordered two new genuine HP adapters with the exact specifications that I need. However, my web/graphic design business is run solely from that laptop and I have client work I need to attend to while I'm waiting for my new adapters to arrive. I have my client files backed up externally but no one's laptop that I can borrow in the meantime has the software I need to do my work. A friend sourced out for me a 19.5V 6.15A 120W adapter to borrow, but the specs on my original adapter are 18.5V 6.5A 120W. Will the difference in volts and amps cause me any problems (damage to my laptop or the adapter) if I use this borrowed adapter with my HDX18 for a week or two?

    Hi,
It should be ok to use - normally machines can accept plus or minus 5%-7% for voltage.

  • Dv6-7014nr Does it support Wake-on-LAN, WoWLAN, or Wake on USB.?

I am not finding Bios settings for any of these features. Inn fact the BIOS looks prettypaltry.  Am I missing a hidden menu or something or is the BIOS really that bad feature-wise?  I found the USB "allow this device to start the computer" setting in the USB device powermanagement settings but I can't select it.  Is there a way to enable that setting?

wake-on-lan must be enabled already and no option for customers to configure in BIOS because these are consumer units and not many users use such options on this platform.
I can see that network driver in device manager gives you option to configure Wake-on-Lan under device propertties>Advanced tab. several options such as wake-on-lan magic packet - Shutdown wake-on-lan etc...
yes the options may be limited to driver used. if its factory image or drivers are used from hp.com; that should give you options.

  • Can dv6-7014nr boot from USB?

    Seriously - 1st time asked?
I've stepped into CMOS and see only hd, cd, & net. Seems strange in this day and age.
    thx

Does the BIOS look like the one that I showed the image of? Is it the same brand?
I do not recall any mention of updating the BIOS. If that is the case then it is simple. Use the UEFI environment.
Press the power button and then tap the Esc key to access the start menu.
In the Start menu select F2 for System Diagnostics.
The next windows is the Advanced System Diagnostice where you should select BIOS Management.
In BIOS Management select BIOS Rollback.  That will allow you to safely rollback the BIOS to the previous version.

  • Smart Pin Dongle AC Adapter 90W KG298AA

    Hi,
I have an HP labtop of model: dev6 2170ee
I want to get an AC adapter, and I found that the chargere :
Smart Pin Dongle AC Adapter 90W KG298AA
    is compatible with the serice:
    dv6-2100 Entertainment Notebook PC series
However, my original adapter 10 120w rather that 90w, so is this adapter is really compatible with my laptop??
    Please help me.
    Thanks so much in advance,
    Best regards,
    Aya.

According to page 1-3 under the ports category of the Maintenance and Service guide, the notebook should be using a 90W adapter.  Not certain why it came with a 120W adapter.
According to the compatibility chart found here, the dv6 2170ee (in the dv6-2000 series category) is not compatible with a 120W adapter and lists 90W as the highest capacity.
Based on the available information, 90W should be the correct one.
If you want to order direct from HP, this should be a compatible adapter.  You can also use it to compare the replacement adapter you are looking at to be sure it is compatible.  I suspect this is the one you are looking at based on the provided part number.

  • Smart Adapter

I have an HP Envy 17-j040us which was giving me pop up messages about the smart adapter being too low power from the first boot up.  I called HP today and the technician helpfully disabled the messages, something I could have done myself.
He never asked me anything about the power supply itself.  Perhaps I'm paranoid, but it doesn't really seem like a 65W adapter is sufficient for a 17 inch laptop with an i5 processor.  Is there any way to be sure a 65 W adapter is the right size and my laptop isn't simply being throttled down to 65W (like my error message says it would be)?

I recently got the same error message on my 6 month old Envy 15t J100 (loaner from HP).This message appears to be a fluke since I am using the 120W adapter that came with the machine. Is your adapter a 120w?
In my case a BIOS update fixed it-or it went away on it's own, not sure at this point since I only saw it once. If you are using a 120w adapter and continue to get the popup message you might check your software/driver page for latest BIOS.

  • Nvidia GeForce 650m 2GB fried graphics card

Hello, I'm posting because I've had ALOT of issues with my Nvidia GeForce 650m Graphics Card. I originally bought an HP Pavillion DV6 7014nr. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the issue, but something is causing the computer to kill the graphics card. Currently I have had the graphics card replaced 3 times on the DV6 and each time it has died. The first one lasted the longest uptill November. (I purchased it in August). Then it was sent off, they fixed a bunch of stuff, but not the card, sent it off again in December, got it fixed and it died within the week. I sent it off, got it fixed, and it died within 3 hours of having the computer. Sent it off again and that one died within a day of having it. Now HP finally replaced the entire computer, with a Envy DV6 7000 Quad Edition, with the same card. I got it on Monday and as of yesterday aka Tuesday it died. Now this card should be capable of running almost any game on high, yet it dies on these little games on low. The game I noticed it has had the biggest issue of dying on is Starcraft 2, but there has been no reports of issues since 2010, and Blizzard has said there are no known issues. I have played SWTOR, DCUO, Aion, SC2, and S4 League. I have tried everything, updating to the latest drivers, updating the BIOS, keeping the fan open and cool, putting an external fan and lowering the graphics. Nothing seems to work. I really don't know what to do, I have tried EVERYTHING that I can possible think of and I'm running out of options. The computer is covered under warrenty, but I'm really getting tired of having my computer gone for week at a time and the issue still continues to happen. I would really appreciate any input, or if anyone else is having the same issue. I am pretty tech savvy, so if there are some "Advanced things" that I might have to try, I should be able to handle them.
The error code I get from the device manager is an Error code 43 :Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). And when I click on the Nvidia control panel it says NVIDIA DISPLAY SETTINGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU.
    Thanks in advance!

    Here is my current configureation.
    Windows 8 64
    3rd generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor (2.4GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
    NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR 5 video memory
    12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750GB 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
    Microsoft Office Trial
    No additional security software
    6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
HP TrueVision HD Webcam with integrated dual array digital microphone
    Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
    Backlit Keyboard
My problem is that I keep getting an error 43 code in the device manager and the nvidia control panel says "You are not currently using a display attached to a Nvidia GPU. The Bios version F.13 IS NOT WORKING. The F.0A worked for my computer that was running windows 7 and had the same error. I tried updating everything, but this computer is on windows 8 and its not working. I need a bios version that is working with windows 8. The F.22 version is known to cause errors. So far every HP support tech that I have spoken to has not been helpful, so I'm hoping someone on here has a solution.
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • I think my laptop was sent with the wrong Graphics Card....

I bought my laptop (dv6-7014nr) over a year ago and have continuously had issues with fram rates in games. I thought it might be damaged and finally ran a dxdiag. It indicated that my current graphics card was a 'Intel(R) HD Grpahics 4000" when it should actually be a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M.

  • Insyde H2O BIOS is too simple

I have just purchased an Pavillion DV6 7014nr. Nice machine but the BIOS is a REAL disappointment. Firstly, I am not running Windows, so being able to tweak the BIOS is useful and sometimes required. I was dismayed to find, that the BIOS on this box does not expose any of the important features. In particular, I would like to see
    - SATA mode options
    - Option to select the default graphics card. For those of us how do not want to use Windows it's almost impossible to use the GeForce ard. It would be real nice if the BIOS were to allow the selection
I hope somebody from HP sees this and takes note (unfortunately in these days of "customer no-service", the "Contact-Us" button is nowhere to be found....)

i bought a dv5 a while back, maybe in 2008 or so, and that BIOS exposed quite a few more optios if I recall correctly. That's really too bad.
Any idea whom at HP one could send this complaint to directly?

  • Get Window 10 app states Win 10 install impossible - no supported network device.

The "Get Windows 10" app says that Windows 10 can't be installed on my Pavilion dv6 7014nr because I have no supported networking devices. Obviously I have generic, working networking devices. Windows Device Manager says that all of my networking devices have current drivers. The OS device manager says all of my devices have current drivers except my display adaptor--GeForce GT-650m.  I am reluctant to install the current driver because it does not come form HP and I do not want to break my laptop.  Besides, it not a networking device. A 6/24/15 forum post said the Get 10 app was reporting many HP laptops were being told they were not compatible with WIN 10 and the HP was investigating. What does this ambiguous networking device comment refer to?  Is there a next step?  Has HP any general advice for those who fail the MSoft prep app?

  • Dv6-7095ca adapter issue

So I just bought a DV6-7095ca and when I plugged it in, I was told I needed a stronger adapter. So I took the adapter back (was a 65w) and they gave me a 90w Hp replacement adapter. However I just plugged it in and got the same message again. Is there a setting that I need to change on the laptop? Or do I have to get a more powerful adapter still?
    This question was solved.

ruruliu is correct. The product specifications list the power supply as being 120w. You will need to get one of these 120w adapters to get rid of the error message. Here is a link to the HP Parts Store where you should be able to purchase the part. I hope this helps!
