  • Convert a 2602i from lightweight to autonomous?

I have a CAP2602i that I would like to convert from lightweight to autonomous.  Is this possible as with the older APs?
I'm following the instructions for the older models http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp161272 with the adjustment of renaming file ap3g2-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.tar to ap3g2-k9w7-tar.default.
Here is my console output at the point that I am failing:

    Hi Mantej,
It does not work with these new APs 1600/2600.
You need to perform these steps:
    Restart the Access Point
While it loads the image in flash, press Escape, you’ll enter ROMMON mode:
The system boot has been aborted. The following
commands will finish loading the operating system
    software:
    ether_init
    tftp_init
    boot
Set the IP address for the gigabit 0 interface:
    ap: set IP_ADDR 10.0.0.1
    ap: set netmask 255.255.255.0
Initialize the tftp, ethernet and flash subsystems:
    ap: tftp_init
tftp_init success: You can now use tftp file system!
    ap: ether_init
    Initializing ethernet port 0...
Ethernet speed is 100 Mb - FULL Duplex
    ap: flash_init

Load the image from TFTP and extract it to flash:
    ap: tar -xtract tftp://10.0.0.100/ap3g2-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.tar flash
After it’s done, set the correct bootimage:
    ap: set BOOT flash://ap3g2-k9w7-mx.152-2.JB/ap3g2-k9w7-xx.152-2.JB
    Boot the system:

  • 2602i lightweight to autonomous issue

I currently have a 2602i access point that I need to load autonomous image ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JAA.tar on to, with no WLC. I have already tried the steps from the following links...
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp160918
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ_NuxdRhQ4
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11875096/convert-2602i-lightweight-autonomous
Each time I have tried I am hooking my laptop running tftpd32 to the Ethernet interface on the AP. I have been using 10.0.0.5/24 and/or /27 as the IP for my laptop/tftp server. When doing the steps that say assign an address to g0 I have tried both 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2/24 or /27.
I am at a loss and hoping that there is an answer out there that is specific to the 2602i that I have not found yet. Each time I go through any of the steps the connection to the tftp server times out. I have adjusted the time out setting in tftpd to 30, 45 and 100 seconds.
    Thank you in advance
    -Dave

An other way to get the correct image on the AP is to do it from rommon.
    0. Configure IPv4 address "192.168.1.1" on your desktop / notebook LAN interface, connect the console and verify that no firewall is blocking the incoming tftp connections
    1. Send the "break" signal on the console when the AP is booting so you are getting into rommon
    2. Configure a static IPv4 address on the AP
    ap: set IP_ADDR 192.168.1.2
    3. Enable the ethernet interface on the AP
    ap: ether_init
    4. Start the tftp engine
    ap: tftp_init
    5. Download and extract the new .tar software
    ap: tar -xtract tftp://192.168.1.1/ap3g2-k9wx-tar.xxxx.tar flash:
    6. Set the new IOS image as boot image
    ap: set BOOT flash:/ap3g2-k9w7-mx.152-2.JA/ap3g2-k9wx-xxxx.JA
    7. Let the AP boot
    ap: boot
That should do the trick :)

  • Convertion from Lightweight to Autonomous access points

Is it possible to convert AIR-LAP1121G-E-K9 Lightweight access point to autonomous access point.

    Hi tm,
You can convert AIR-LAP1121G-K-E9 to autonamus access point, pls do follow the procedur
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
    Step 4
Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
    Step 5
Disconnect power from the access point.
    Step 6
Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
    Step 7
Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
    Step 8
Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
    Step 9
After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

  • AIR-RM1252G-E-K9 changing from lightweight to autonomous?

    Hi Everyone
I have a AIR-RM1252G-E-K9 access point which is in lightweight mode but need to change it to autonomous mode. After doing a bit of googling i understand its as simple as tftp'ing over an autonomous image.  Ive found a link below which states that i need version 12.3 or earlier:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp161272
However i can only find images for this access point starting from 12.4.
Can anyone just clear things up for me and perhaps point me in the right direction?
    thanks

I downloaded the image c1250-k9w7-tar.124-21a.JA1.tar. I want to enable DHCP but i cant do this. Can anyone help me out with this?
Hmmmm ... It's either I don't understand what is your problem or something else.  For starters, 12.4(21a)JA1 supports the AP being a simple DHCP server:
    WAP(config)#ip dhcp pool ?
    WORD  Pool name
Next, you said you've "downloaded" the IOS.  Can you post the output of "sh version" please?

  • 887VAW 802 lightweight to Autonomous

Hi guys, I've managed to 'upgrade' the onboard 802 AP to lightweight in error but cannot find a way to 'downgrade' it back to autonomous mode. I've read various threads but none of then work for me. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Robbie.

You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Note In some LWAPP deployments, the LWAPP controller resides between the access points and the rest of the network. In this topology, all traffic must cross over the controller before communication with network resources, such as a TFTP server, can occur. When converting back to non-LWAPP IOS with an access point that is no longer using the LWAPP protocol, traffic does not cross over the controller to reach the TFTP server.
Note The lightweight 1300 series access points can only be converted back to autonomous mode using a wireless LAN controller.

  • Conversion from Lightweight to Autonomous

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to get an Access Point 1140 Series to go back to Autonomous, but when I type archive download-sw /overwrite /reload tftp://1.2.3.4/autonomous-image.tar It says it doesn't recognize that command.
It's connected to a WLC 2504 with software version 7.6
    Thanks.

If the AP is still connected to the WLC, then enter the command in the WLC to convert the AP to autonomous:  config ap tftp-downgrade <TFTP IP address> <IOS FILEMANE.TAR> <AP name>
If the AP is no longer connected to the WLC, then read this:  Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

  • Can A 1252 AP run autonomously?

I need to do a site survey using my wireless "N" AP.  The AP is a Cisco 1252G.
Is there any way I can make the AP broadcast an ssid without plugging it into the network and having it join the wireless controller?
I will mount the AP in a hallway were there is no wall jack to plug it into. That is why I need it to run the AP by its self

    Hi,
    >> Ok, so if I plugg my laptop into the AP's eithernet jack, and power  it, I can configure the AP to broadcast an SSID? How would I do that?
ANS - Plugging the LAPTOP to AP using ethernet cable is for connectivity.. then powering the AP is done by connecting the External power adapter to the AP.. then access the console port by console cable  and then configure the AP using CLI for a SSID.
    >> I  also have a access to the console port. I'm somwhat expericed with  configuring switches but I would be a little lost when trying to  configure the AP through command promt.
ANS - Here is the configuration guide for configuring the AP using CLI..
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_21a_JA1/configuration/guide/scg12421aJA1-chap1-overview.html
Here is the simple config which you can configure the AP from the console access
    en
    conf t
    dot11 ssid
    authentication open
    guest-mode
    end
    int dot11 0
    ssid
    end
This will help you to broadcast the SSID..
Lemme know if this answered your question... or reply back if u need some more info..

  • 3700 AP - Best way to convert back from Autonomous to LIghtweight

I have a 3700 AP that I have up & running as Autonomous. I recently got a 2504 WLC and would like to put the AP back to Lightweight and run it from the 2504.
The 2504 is running 8.0.110.0 code and I have the current 3700 Lightweight Recovery image and IOS downloaded as well.
I have done done some searches and most of he articles are conversion to Autonomous. Not much is out there for putting it back. Some articles just mention needing the Lightweight  recovery image while others state I can use the Mode button and just have a TFTP server running  in a specific subnet and the AP will "pull" down the code and convert back.  Almost all of the articles refer to old model APs...
Looking for clarity in the process as I certainly don't want to brick this 3700 AP.
    Thx.

    Hi
You can use either methods & it will work (even for 3700)
If you using mode button method, make sure you rename the recovery image something like this ap3g2-k9w7-tar.default. Refer this post for detail
    http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/
    Normal method is described here

  • Help with setup for roaming on 3502 and 1252

Hello everyone, I have a bit suggest about setting up roaming without having it connect different SSID. I figuring when I was at Rochester Institute of Technology college when I walk in hall, I seen my phone wifi signal was never disconnected but seen 1142 (I figured it out what design look like) change from green to blue in every location. My major is Information & Computing Studies at NTID.
    My current setup at home:
    1. Internet to Untangle Firewall to Cisco Catalyst Express 500 with PoE to two 3502i at home
    2. Cisco Catalyst Express 500 to Cisco Catalyst Express 500 with PoE to two 1252 at garage
    3. 3502i and 1252 are running Autonomous IOS or Standalone
And also we have smartphones, apple ipads and iphones, and a laptops.
I want to set the same SSID so they should automatically connect via roaming to any location like RIT and even dual band should work too. I do not have Virtual WLC or Windows Server (I should get Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012 from RIT and I can download virtual WLC too). Will it work without WLC and server?
In case, If it is not possible without WLC then I would like to know what requirement list so I can add to that to make it work.

Gage Burchett wrote:Stephen, All of these AP are running WPA2-PSK AES + WPA-PSK TKIP (Cipher AES CCMP + TKIP) with same passhrase and same SSID. Any channel still work? Isn't 802.1x can be used with Windows Server that have RADIUS? Are you sure I leave these same configuration so it will roaming itself or client?
I would stick with channels 1/6/11, those are the standard non overlapping channels for the 2.4GHz side.  For 5GHz, any channel you pick should work as the channels in 5GHz do not overlap.
And yes, so long as the SSID, PSK and VLAN mapping (if you are doing sub-interfaces) are the same, and there is some overlapping of the AP signals, your clients should roam between the AP just fine.

  • Wireless lightweight Conversion AIR SAP 1602

Hi, we have serveral AIR-SAP1602I-E-K9 access points which are currently working in standalone mode, we now have a 2504 Wireless LAN controller so is it possible to convert the AIR-SAP1602I-E-K9  to lightweight mode?

Yes you can. Make sure you have atleast 7.4.100.0 version on WLC to support 1602 AP.
    1. For the LWAP conversion, use the recovery image. First download the rcvk9w8 software from this link.
    2. Next you copy the IOS from your TFTP server to your AP.
    3. The command, must be entered on the AP, is:  archive download-sw /over tftp:///<image name>
    check these procedure:

  • Converting back AP 2600 from Autonomous to LWAPP

    Hello,
I have Cisco AP 2600, Previously  i had converted it from  LWAPP mode into Autonomous-Mode.  But now I need to revert it back to LWAPP mode.
Can anyone send me the link on how to do it ?

    HI Imran,
Yes you can convert it to lightweight. Just need the lightweight recovery image.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
For the LWAP conversion, use the recovery image (example:  c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-25d.JAL.tar). after thatuse the command on the autonomous AP priviledge mode.
    AP#archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://10.10.10.1/c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-25d.JA.tar

  • Anyone solved the blinking statusleds on 1252

    Hi,
have anyone solved the blinking statuslights on the 1252? -it always blinks status blinks red, green, blue when on 15,4w, 802.3af compliant switch!
Im now running the 1252 lightweight on controller 4402 with firmware 6.0.182.0, i have administratively shut down the 5ghz radio and rebooted. still blinkning!!
The only solution seems to be to physically remove the 5ghz radio.
i have noticed that when 2.4 & 5ghz is inserted but 5ghz is shutdown it draws 10019mW.
when 5ghz radio i physically removed it draws 7555mW.

If you are using firmware 6.X, then this code will upgrade the firmware of the radios to version 2.0.0 which allows both radios to operate but at a lower rate.
The lights blinking red, blue, green at a pace of about 1 per seconds means that the LAP can't find the WLC. If the light is red all the time then it means that it's gone into ROMmon.
If the light is BLUE only that means that a client has successfully associated to it. If it's green it means that it's joined a WLC but no client has associated to it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lightweight AP to Lightweight AP IOS upgradation

    Dear Support,
I want to upgrade the Lightweight AP to Lightweight AP IOS.
but i am not able to find any procedure on Cisco Site.
    Please help me on this.
    Regards,
    Jitesh Mahajan.

Did you try the mode button method explained here. You have to rename your image to "ap3g2-k9w7-tar.default" to use in this method.
    http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/
    Otherwise follow this & see
    http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/
Once converted to autonomous you can assign a static IP & default gateway like this. Then if needed you can access GUI
    interface bvi 1
    ip address x.x.x.x <subnet_mask>
    ip default gateway x.x.x.y
