1280x720P playback is jerky on canvas preview

I have issue playback preview on Canvas window.
The video footage
uncompressed 1280x720 frames created by QT using "open image sequence" MOV. (the image sequence are pngs' )
My timeline setting is
1280x720 HDTV 720P (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio Square
Field Dominance- NONE
QT Video Setting - PNG 100%
My MOV format is
Type - Clip
Creator - QT Player
Size - 1.3 GB
Vid Rate - 30fps
Frame Size - 1280x720
Compressor - PNG
Data Rate 41.2MB/sec
Pixel Aspect - Square
Field Dominance - NONE
Alpha - None/Ignore
When I try to playback the timeline, it will play, but it's very jerky. It doesn't play smooth.
I'm wondering if I'm missing some setting to have it play jerky?
I believe my machine is decent enough power to play HD footage.
Before this machine, I had G5, and I remember I didn't have the problem playing back HD in FCP.

Update,
Since PNG maybe the problem, so I created jpgs image sequence of exactly same scene.
Now, it did play smooth on FCP...
Which is good and bad.... we have been used jpg compression, but we swiched to png since it's lossless... and after all the question posted on this forum (I actually posted on Shake forum since more 3D people on the group), they recommended me for PNG.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4674515#4674515
On top of that, I also tested myself of the playback-bility on QT.
When you "open image sequence" in QT, with PNG frames, it plays back smoother than JPG frames (PNG one is smooth but not totally smooth, jpgs is very jerky on playback in QT).
Simply I could just switch back to jpg, however, I'd like to use better compression for the end result animation quality...
Do you guys have any good suggestion?

PROBLEM: Premiere CS5 - Project Monitor playback is jerky
This had NOT been an issue prior to reinstalling the operating system and all software.  I have read numerous articles on the forums and have tried everything I can find...with no results.
STEPS TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM:
I have scoured the articles here http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/search/index.cfm?loc=en_us&term=choppy%20video&cat=support&pr oduct=premierepro and others at Cretive Cow
I have installed all updates for CS5 Master Collection, immediately following a fresh install of the operating system and SC5 Master Collection.
I have ensured that sequence settings match resolution and frame rates of footage - the problem persists.
I have tested by importing both standard def AVI files created from tape and high def SONY MP4 files - the problem persists.
I have ensured the latest Video drivers are installed (clean installation selected, so that the Windows default would be removed) - the problem persists.
I have tried the 3D settings in NVIDIA control panel | Program Settings tab... selected Adobe Premiere Pro from the drop down menu | and chaged 'Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration from the value of 'Multiple Display performance' to the value of 'single display performance'; although, I ran two monitors before using this latest NVIDIA video driver and I didn't experience this jerky footage issue - the problem persisted after affecting that change; so, I switched it back.
Since I have 96 GB of RAM, I don't use a pagefile.  A zero MB page file is the same setting I had prior to rebuilding the C:  Regardless of whether I have a pagefile or not, the problem persists.
I have tried creating a fresh user profile, where the user profile is created on the C: drive by default; and, where I left it there on C: to test for the jerky playback in a new PrPR project  - the problem persists.
Regarding the C: (system drive) and why I reinstalled everything, it had become unstable and was locking up.  I ran DISK ERROR CHECKING with the FIX parameter and the system was still locking up on me.  Keep in mind that the System drive is a solid state drive.  Anyhow, I had no choice but to dive in and reinstall everything.  I wiped the system partition of the SSD using quick format and started installing the operating system.  Now, I've read the CLAIM that this cuases performance issues; but, the only place I see issues is in the video monitor playback in PrPr.  Everything else - Office applications...printing...browsing the Internet...works just fine, everything is responsive, whereas, I couldn't do ANYTHING with it before.

    I'VE RESOLVED THE PROBLEM!
    PREFACE:
OK, I am hoping that through this week-long Operating-System-and-Software-reinatalltion excerise of mine, I have revealed something that everyone -- whom have been cursing Adobe over -- can apply to their systems to resolve this jerky video problem within PremierePro CS5 (and quite possibly other versions, too).
If you've read my post above, you've seen all the steps I've taken to resolve the problem.  I've read many posts, some of which have mentioned  hardware upgrade / opitmization steps that one may take to enhance performance, and hopefully resolve the problem.  I've read where people have taken these steps and have still experienced the problem...and then they curse Adobe.  Fer-shame, fer-shame, fer-shame! (nod to Gomer Pyle).
In my case, I knew it wasn't an Adobe issue, as it had worked flawlessly before; and, it wouldn't require a hardware upgrade or reconfigureation, as my system is completely maxed out with two processors, a system drive and a hardware RAID5 array, a CUDA-suported nVIDIA 4800 FX card, and 96 GB of RAM.  bla bla bla, puke...whatever.  Bottom line is this:
It's not a software issue.  It's not and Adobe issue; and Gawd no!  It's NOT a PC vs. Mac issue!  HA HA.  The software had worked swimmingly well prior to the reinstallation / 'lobotomy' I perfomed on the system drive.
    SOLUTION FOR ME:
Download and install the updated drivers for the motherboard.  Mine is an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC.  Intel has an INTEL DRIVER UPDATE UTILITY which automatically scaned my Intel system and identified drivers which needed updating.  A very handy, time-saving tool!!!  Here's the URL: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
The scan revealed two Intel drivers needing an update:
    Intel Chipset
    Wired Networking
    and one non-intel driver:
    Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-fi
I downloaded and installed these three drivers, rebooted, and tested PremierePro, and was extatic to find this resolved the problem.
If you have a motherboard from another manufacturer, then you may want to navigate over to their wibsite to locate chipset and other updated drivers for your motherboard.
    ROOT CAUSE:
While Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate was able to install certain default drivers during the Operating System installation (keeping in mind that this was done on an Intel Solid State Drive that I formatted using Quick Format) these default chipset drivers apparently weren't current and were ultimately the root cuase of the jerky video playback within PremierePro CS5.
    Peace

  • QuickTime Mpeg2 Playback is jerky

    I purchased the MPEG2 playback plug-in.
However, the playback is jerky...seem to stop and go...
I played with the video playback preferences...
I do not have this problem with other file types or with the same files playing back on Microsoft Media Player

    Hi pabo88,
I just ran into this in iMovie. Exporting a QT .mov resulted in jerky playback in QT. I exported a Full Quality .dv file from iMovie and it played fine in QT. Then I exported out of QT as a .mov. It only works if you have QT Pro, but it works!

  • I'm downloading using RealPlayer But the video playback is jerky.  The audio playback is OK.   Can anyone suggest a solution.  Would upgrading to RealPlayer Plus be a good thing to do?

I'm downloading using RealPlayer But the video playback is jerky.  The audio playback is OK.
Please can anyone suggest a solution.
PS Would upgrading to RealPlayer Plus help?

I can't understand how internet speeds can be the cause of the problem.  My problem with a jerky playback is that I have already down loaded.   Could this be to do with my computer (I maybe able to persuade my wife that I need a new one).  Earlier I was listening to a clip of the MJQ, downloaded from UTube, and although the sound was good the picture was not.
My computer is an iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo with a processing speed of 2.8 Ghz.  Does this information help?

  • Sound doesn't play in canvas preview

Hi. I have my video footage in the timeline with sound disabled (because I don't need it) and an mp3 file. As I scroll through the timeline I can hear my mp3 sound but when in canvas preview I can only hear beep every second. Any ideas?

Final Cut Pro does not work natively with mp3. The beeping is telling you that the audio needs to be rendered.

  • Quicktime playback all jerky after update

The last quicktime update has turned my playback all jerky. I can't even play a normal DV cam video with more then about 4 ot 5 fps. The playback info window however doesn't appear to notice and says the playback is fine at 25 fps as it should be.
Since I'm working in the video industry, it is vital for me that quicktime playback. And I work with HDV videos, which have been playing absolutely fine. And now, they play with 1 frame every 3 seconds. I've tried a reinstall of Quicktime, I even completely setup a new system install. Same result.

    Please report this
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/feedback
This has happened once before (some time ago) and was fixed. But every one should complain since intel Mac get all of Apple's attention now.
Also, reverting to a previous version with pacifist does work but then you cannot video conference in ichat and who knows what else!

  • No audio in canvas preview

Can anyone tell me why i have no audio when i try yo preview my project. If I drag the bar on the timeline there is audio but not when I press play in the canvas preview, just beeps.
    Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.
It sounds like your audio needs to be rendered. Select Sequence>Render All>Both. To avoid this problem, make sure your audio is AIFF format @either 32kHz or 48kHz, whichever matches the settings of your sequence.

  • Playback in Viewer (NOT CANVAS!) halts every second or so...

This is annoying. I have been using FCE for a couple of years, and have never seen this to be an issue. I just updated to Universal, and it is broken.
While waiting for a Universal version of FCE, I went back to using the latest iMovie to do some small video projects, knowing that FCE had in the past had no difficulty opening and importing iMovie projects. Well, this seems no longer to be the case. Although the import works flawlessly, there is a serious problem with playback of iMovie captured video in the Viewer window. It pauses ever second or two, with the audio continuing. I have experimented with choosing different video playback qualities, to no avail. The weird thing is that once this stuff is put into the timeline and played back in the canvas, it plays just fine...
I am wondering if this is related to the audio portion of the iMovie video, as it seems that when audio is rendered or is missing in the Canvas, the video plays back just fine.
I am a bit disturbed that this problem seems to have been encountered back in January or February of this year, and yet I purchase the software six months later and the problem is still there. Any solutions to this?

    Hi Tom:
Thanks for your continued help and patience with this. Searching back in the archives, others are reporting the same thing, including the SAME data rate numbers that I am getting, There is something strange going on....
Ok, I just drilled into the iMovie package, found a media file, and opened it in QuickTime. From QuickTime, I see that the format is DV 720x480 (640 x 480) Millions, DV, Stereo 48.000 kHz and 29.97 fps. The Data rate is 57.55 mbits / second.
When I open an iMovie file in FCE, and select the SAME clip, everything is the same, except the data rate is shown to be 6.9 MBYTES per second. I am not sure why this is the value... multiplying it out by 8 bits/byte I don't get what QuickTime reports the data rate as being.
Everything else is the same... Although I am a bit confused as to the sample size of the audio being 32 bit here...

  • Poor video playback in Encore 2.0 preview and monitor window . . .

I'm having a strange issue with my video playback in the preview and monitor windows. At some points it displays as blocks (like digital noise). I unchecked the "Automatic" option in the A/V Output dialog as described in the manual. Still, nothing changed.
To make sure it was Encore that had the problem, and not the file, I played my MPG2 files through PowerDVD, and nothing wrong with the playback in there. What is Encore 2.0 doing? How can I fix this problem???
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

What Mouse drivers are you using please?
This might sound silly, but under 1.5 (Different preview engine, true, so this may be completely wrong) I found that with a later revision of the MS Intellipoint drivers, I had exactly the same issue.
We worked this out by realizing the green blocks appeared as soon as the mouse was moved. As with your cases, the discs still burned true proving it is a preview related issue.
Uninstalling & reverting back to version 4.1 made it all go away.
But since the preview engine is now the PPro one, this might not work any more.

  • Final cut express can't drag to canvas preview has X and slides behind the canvas

When I try to drag a clip to the canvas, the preview window has an X in the upper right hand corner and the clip slides behind the canvas. How do I correct this please?

Are you dragging from the viewer to the canvas? Make sure the viewer is not set to Image+Wireframe in the view popup at the upper right. If you try to drag the image and a large X through it appears you have the wireframe turned on.

  • Will not playback audio or video in preview or project monitor

First off i am running PP CS3 on an Imac with leapord... 4gb ram... 300 gb of free hard drive... 3.06 processor and i am having a problem with playback... i open the project i am wanting to work on and i go to playback in either window(preview or project) and it will play for about 15 secs with no problem with audio or video, and then out of nowhere the audio quits and then if i stop the playback and try to restart it there is now playback at all, only a frozen frame from where the playhead started. For now i have an external monitor i am able to view on with no problem via firewire and it is a decent temporary solution but i will not be able to do this for long... I appreciate any and all help, and if there is any more info needed to solve this problem feel free to let me know
    Thank You

Well, if your previewing via an external monitor via firewire, that
seems to imply that the timeline playback is in fact working.
First question: Is this on ANY project, or just this one...that you know of.
Second: Is there anything at this 15 second point on the timeline. Some
different type of media than the rest, something like that?

  • Canvas preview not the same as viewer

I set my "Easy Setup" to be "DV-NTSC Anamorphic"
I then captured NTSC Anamorphic video from my DV cam.
When I view the clips in the "Viewer", everything looks great.
When I drag a clip to the timeline and or "Canvas" the video shows at half the size.
Why is it not filling the "Canvas" like it is in the "Viewer"?
Also, these clips need to be rendered once brought into the timeline. It is already in DV format. Why does it need to be rendered?
PowerMac G5, dual 2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2.5 GB RAM, oodles of hard drive space

Is the Canvas in the widescreen aspect? After you changed the easy setup, did you make a new sequence? What needs to be rendered video or audio or both?

  • Second monitor canvas preview

I have a Sony TV that has HDMI in and I would like to use this as a preview monitor. Can I just run a DVI/HDMI cable from the tower to the tv? Or is there another way?

All this does is create a second computer desktop hanging off of the computer graphics card, is this what the OP wants?

  • Playback so jerky on Premier Elements 11 I can't edit. Urgent help required.

My clips are from a Panasonic HC V700 camera filmed at 1080p 50fps
Project settings are PAL 1080p 50fps
There is no orange line above the timeline - only a small green section where I added a transition and rendered - so I assume the project setting match the properties of the clips.
    My laptop details are:
    Acer Aspire 5742Z
    Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU P6200 @ 2.13GHz
    Installed memory RAM 4GB
System Type 64 Bit Operating System
    I'm using Windows 7
I save projects and files onto an external hard drive - a Hitachi Touro Mobile 3.0 1TB
I've defragged my laptop hard drive but that hasn't helped. I've updated the audio, video, graphics drivers but that hasn't made a difference either.  Is it likely to be the lack of RAM?
I have to have this video (approx 5 mins but with complex green screen stuff in it so a few layers of video going on) edited and uploaded to Vimeo by midnight on Sat 31st May. I've never had this issue before with the same camera and same settings etc. There's been some jerkiness but not so bad I can't see to edit properly.
    Any help gratefully accepted.
ETA - I saved the minute long section I've done as a quicktime movie and it played back fine on the laptop.

    Some thoughts...
If you video source for the project is 1080p50 (1920 x 1080 @ 50 progressive frames per second), then make sure that the project preset is set a
    PAL
    AVCHD
    AVCHD1080p50
If you are allowing the program to do an automatic project set, the check to determine what it is setting. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio readings (even if the fields appear to be grayed out). For that project preset, the Project Settings there should read as follows
If you see Editing Mode = 1080i, then start a new project, set the project preset manually to the 1080p50 project preset, and then import your 1080p50 into the project. The how to for setting the project preset manually is described toward the bottom of the following
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
With your video formats, double check what you have. Could there be any confusion between 50p and 50i. Just in case note...when you see 50p, that represents 50 progressive frames per second. When you see 50i, that represents 50 fields per second which is the counterpart of 25 interlaced frames per second.
Please check out the above so that we can rule those factors in the matter that we seek to resolve.
    Thanks for the follow ups.
