12c and adding target database same name

I'm upgrading an existing RAC database from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.3 on new hardware. I have issue where I am trying to add the new database to EM 12c and its giving me an error that the individual rac names are already registered. Yes they are. On different hosts. I have a unquie name defined the cluster and that works fine. Its just when it goes to add the individual targets... they fails with name already exists.
Anyone know how to work around this?

You should have changed the SID during the system copy... SID stands for System ID... you can't have two systems with the same SID in the TMS

Correct. it does not magially appear in other places. It will only be where you put it.

Correct as well. Iphone will sync with one computer at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

OEM 12c and OVM on the same box?

Could you please share you experience, best practices and gotchas with installing OEM 12c and OVM on the same OL 5x box?
We would like to install OEM 12 R2 on a OL57 server with an existing production (Oracle DB SE 11.2.0.3.0) Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1.625 installation.
Some questions:
1- Does Oracle support OEM and OVM on the same server?
2- If Oracle VM Manager and the SE DB are already installed on an OL 57 server in /u01/app/oracle/product, can OEM 12c R2 be installed into /u01 as well, or should we use a different directoty, i.e. /u02?
3- Will the OEM 12c installation program be able to use the same DB as Oracle VM Manager, i.e., its just creates the OEM DB schema and goes on its mary way without harming the Oracle VM Manager DB schema?

The irony with my OEM and OVM on the same box question is that the Oracle Sales & Support teams as well as public Marketecture has been recommending collocating OEM & OVM!
I agree with you 100% about resource consumption, and considering how often we must restore/reset Oracle VM Manager I am curious how supportable an OEM & OVM install is on the same box. 99% of my customers are not interested in supporting MySQL, i.e. the DBAs know Oracle not MySQL. As long as Oracle VM Manager resets (DB deletes) and UUID restores (uninstalls and re-installs) will not damage OEM its all good.

CloudControl 12c: when adding cluster-database single instances are missing

Hello ,
I'e have installed the agent 12c on every single host of our RAC. When adding a database to CloudControl 12c just the RAC-instance gets discovered - but not the single database instances on each host.
Due to this when clicking targets -> databases I just see the cluster-database - but not every single instance of the database.
Compared to another RAC database this is totally different behaviour.
Any help will be appreciated

maybe I should try to explain the issue a little bit clearer...
We have one RAC database called PROD02. When clicking "targets -> databases" I see the following:
PROD02 of type Cluster Database
PROD021 of type Database Instance
PROD022 of type Database Instance
That's the way it shoudl be - that's the way I expected it...
For the newly cofgured RAC database, called PREP02, it looks different when clicking "targets -> databases"
PREP02 of type Cluster Database
The single instances don't show up. Of course I see the single instances when clicking on "PREP02" under the item "Instances".
Now I wonder why these two RAC databases are differently displayed when clicking "targets -> databases". When trying to add the single instances (clicking "Add" under "targets -> databases") and selecting then either "only on the host <hostname>" or "on all hosts in the cluster" no single instances are found or displayed...

Grid Control 12c and high availability databases

In the context of high availability databses, my configuration is as follow:
2 AIX servers on 2 sites with shared storage -> Site1 and site2.
During normal operations databases are on site1. In case of disaster, databases can fallover on site2.
On my Grid Control, 2 agents are installed: One for AIX on site1 and one for AIX on site2.
Databases have been discovered on AIX:site1
Listener is a virtual address and can also fallover.
What are the possibility on the grid side ?
Do I have to discover also the databases on site2 ?
Actually, Listener is seen down on the site who has not the databases.
Is there a way to only configure the Listener virtual address on the Grid ?

Basically you have to relocate the targets to the new agent (the one installed on site2). I haven't done that, but I expect to work fairly easy and smooth. Refer to the following section of Cloud Control 12c manual:

Can't import RAW and psd file with same name different extension

Trying to import a folder of images from desktop that I have been working with in Bridge CS3.
LR won't import a RAW file that has a PSD file by the same name. Tried renaming the PSD and deleting the one with the same name, but says it is still there and won't import the RAW file - What is the correct workaround on this? Why can't it import same name files with different extensions?

A forum search for 'RAW + JPEG' will give you more posts on this than you care to read. This will change. For now, import the RAW and PSD's from separate folders and then move them together for within LR.
LR is seeing the RAW as a sidecar to the PSD. It is an unforseen effect of the RAW + JPEG thing where they decided to not import the JPEG, seeing it as basically a preview image for the RAW.

It's easy to rename each unit. When you connect your iPad and it syncs, the unit will appear on the left of the iTUnes screens just click on the unit there and you can rename it. You should do this immediately so you can see which unit was backed up by it's name. You can sync as many decices as you want in one iTunes library and you can even share Apps as long as you're going to sync both from teh same iTunes account. My household has 2 iPad 2s and we share our apps, and we also share downloaded books, magazines, music, etc.......

Import and Export variables with same name

The nco3 throws and exception when a function has Import and Export variables with the same name.
An example is BAPI_BATCH_CREATE.
At the moment my solution is create a ZBAPI_BATCH_CREATE that wraps the original BAPI but has diferent names for import and export variables (IBATCH and OBATCH for BATCH variable).
Anyone has another more clean solution?

Can I give a group and a share the same name?

I have just create a few shares, one for each group I would like to set up. Now I am trying to set up corresponding groups, using for the group the same name I used for the shared folder. For example, I create a share named "Accounting", and now am trying to set up a group named "Accounting", but workgroup manager tells me:
The name you have chosen conflicts with a name assigned to another group.

You can't. However, it wouldn't really a good idea to do so anyways.
Wouldn't it be better to name the Share, "Accounting Share?"
That way, when you're talking to users that aren't that familiar with ...computers... your explanations will be much more logical to them. Not to mention to yourself.
Keep it simple! You'll have far fewer headaches in the future!

Adding system with same name as existing in transport routes

I have following tms scenario, (DD1 is tms domain):
DD1->DQ1->DP1
I need to include copy of DP1 system in the transport routes to have situation like this :
DD1->DQ1->DP1
|->DP1 (copy)
My question is: Is it possible for two systems with the same name to exist in tms, or if it is not possible how to resolve this ?

Compare folders and output files with same name?

I'm trying to compare two folders and print only the excel files in folder B that have the same names as the pages files in folder A. I've tried using the completedigitalphotography "compare folders" action, but it will only output files that are of the same type, not just the same name.
Any ideas?

I tested this out on my own seat and I think it should work for you. I wrote it as a function, all you have to do is pass the root folders you want to search and the file your looking for. The function will then search that directory and all sub directories
for that file name. you will also have to provide it a file to append to, if the file dosen't exists the function will create it. If you run into an issues let me know and the links Mike

Setting a proper domain name and adding hosts for quick name resolution

I have 3 other computers in my house.
Two run linux at this time.
I want to do 2 things. Right now my machine says Steve.local for its hostname right? I want to change that so it reads Steve.mydomain.net.
Am I correct that I need to
sudo /etc/hostconfig
And change the hostname line from -Automatic- to =
HOSTNAME=Steve.mydomain.net
And for quicker resolution of the small number of hosts on my network (primarily so I can use hostname instead of IP for ssh) can I add static hosts to the /etc/hosts file on my machine ala:
sudo /etc/hosts
Is this the proper way to do these things in Mac OS X?
Also to change my workgroup for Samba:
Open the Directory Access utility (under Applications -> Utilities)
I highlight SMB and click configure and just change the Workgroup entry there. Is that correct as well?

Ok update changing the hostname in the field does NOT allow me to edit the .local part. In fact it converts Steve.mydomain.net.local to Steve-mydomain-net.local.
But I got my windows workgroup changed and I am showing up with the correct workgroup name from my other servers.
Also, lets say you only have a couple of computers on your home network right? So dedicated dns is kind of overkill especially when most of them are laptops rebooting all the time.
Well, your mac os x box has a hosts file. /etc/hosts as in if you want to edit sudo vi /etc/hosts. So you keep the computers pretty much in sync from those files.
I was afraid the information would not be persistent across a reboot. It was.
So, two out of three ain't bad. I read in the server forum its a pain in the ***. I was almost thinking of doing the hostconfig trick but I saw an Apple bulletin saying do NOT do that.

Planning and Essbase apps with same name on HSS-enabled Essbase server

I have an Essbase app "FOO" which was migrated from another Essbase server. I re-pointed an existing planning app also called "FOO" at this new server/app using the configuration setup utility. As soon as I did this, the app "FOO" disappears from the list of Essbase apps in EAS and HSS. The Essbase .sec file now has it listed as "Client Application Type: PLANNING". This is not so good as I now can't apply provisioning etc. to the Essbase app. I need to see this in both projects, as it was before - any ideas?
I tried:
* A MAXL re-register of the app but you can't as it gives "ERROR - 1051494 - Re-Registeration not allowed on planning application"
* In Planning, register the app with the HSS "Analytical Services" app but there is a bug in the GUI interface. The project name for an Essbase server always contains colon ":" characters and the GUI splits the project list on these so it's a mess and you can't select the project you need.

You can try to mount all these mount points via NFS in one additional server and then export this new tree again via NFS to all your servers.
No sure if this works. If this works, then you will have in this case just an additional level in the tree.

Capturing and adding filters at same time

Is there a way to capture video and add the filter at the same time? Whenever I have video from an analog source I always add a gamma correction to correct the black levels. However, this adds to the time it takes me to complete project.
If I know what the filter is going to be, can I capture through a filter so that the captured movie is already filtered when I begin editing?
Or, is there another piece of software that I can use to do this? I really want to avoid the render time.

Good question. I can't check it cause I'm not at my FCP workststion but.
If you go to AUDIO VIDEO SETTINGS and open the CAPTURE PRESET you are using there is a button for COMPRESSER settings and a n ADVANCED button. You migh be able to add a filter there, but probably not the one you want.
Now that I think of it, that might be asking FCP to do alot on the fly while capturing... so you probably can't... OK now I'm just rambling... Try it and see if I'm just full of cr@P.
IMO It's usually good to capture thing "clean" anbd do what you will to it later. Let's you change your mind, which, as you can tell, I do a lot.
