12c and Exadata

This might be something more for the Exadata forum, but, hey, I'd thought I'd ask here anyway...
From what I've been told (for about 18 months) by various Oracle people, 12c OEM (do we call it 'Cloud Control' or 'OEM'?) is meant to play a lot nicer with Exadata than the 11g OEM does.
'Fantabulous!', I say, because working with Exadata on 11g OEM is quite frustrating (especially with the storage cells and the ASM stuff).
Anyone had any experience with this? Is it really worth upgrading ESPECIALLY if you have an Exadata machine? The reason I'm asking is that we're looking to possibly building a 12c OEM to handle our Exadata and 11gR2 systems and then keeping our 11g version for the 9i and 10g systems that we have (I know, I know, believe me, I know...).
I'm considering suggesting it as part of an Exadata upgrade project rather than having it as its own standalone project.
Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Mark

Hi Mark,
I've found OEM 12c to be a huge step up from 11g for Exadata management, particularly in terms of initial setup. If you've gone through the process in 11g, you'll know there are many plug-ins to deploy for full monitoring: InfiniBand switch, Cisco management switch, KVM switch, ILOM, PDU, etc. I've also found agent high-availability in 11g to be quite complex to configure.
12c on the other hand has the concept of an entire Exadata system, and can manage all the Exadata components centrally.
Also, in 12c we've started to see the capability to actually make configuration changes to storage servers rather than resorting to CellCLI; IORM for example now has a slick new interface for creating and managing resource plans.
I'd suggest prioritizing a 12c OEM upgrade to happen before your Exadata upgrade, so you can avoid the pain of an interim 11g OEM configuration, and having to change it soon after.
Cheers!
Marc

  • Adf 12c and wls11g

    HI
    i use adf 12c and i want to deploy my applications on weblogic 11g.
    is it possible? How can i install adf 12c on wls11g
    thanks

    Hi,
    ADF 12C is not supported to be installed with Weblogic 11g .
    The information at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/documentation/1212-cert-1964670.html#Abrams-SupportInformation-ApplicationServers should be read as follow:
    In case of ADF 12c the only supported WebLogic server is WebLogic 12c. That is stated in the 3rd column of the table in the above document. The 2nd column states that when you use JDeveloper 12c you will be able to connect and deploy directly from JDeveloper to the mentioned application servers 10.3.5+ and 12.1.2. However for ADF 12c the certification is only against 12c.
    So it is not possible to install FMW 12c onto WebLogic 10.3.6.

    Prakash.

  • Installation of OEM 12c and DB 12c / repository

    Hi,
    currently I am using an Oracle DB 11.2.0.1 to get to know Oracle (administration, SQL, PL/SQL) and to prepare for certification.
    Now I want to install OEM 12c with Plugin DB 12c because there are many new features that are not covered in 11.2. Therefore I need 11.2.0.3. or an upgrade to 11.2.0.3 as database repository for OEM 12c. But I can not install 11.2.0.3 or upgrade to this version because a support ID is required for download.
    How can I install EM 12c and DB 12c for the purpose of learning oracle and testing Oracle related features using my OTN account as usual?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Eli

    Hi,
    @sybrand_b
    thanks for your message.
    I have already read some documents and the installation of Oracle 12c including EM Express was successful. Then I tried different OEM combinations but ended up in non compatible OEM12c - repositoryDB - DB12c scenarios or would have needed a support ID.
    I am slightly confused regarding full versions, updates and plugins, compatible vs incompatible combinations, which OS works for me etc. and try to figure out a sequence of steps that works anyway. And the parts to download are quite big.
    The main steps are
    1. Installation of repository DB (which one, which OS?)
    2. Installation of the latest OEM 12.1.0.3 using the repository DB
    3. Oracle DB 12.1.0.3 has to be plugged into OEM
    Which software bundles to install OEM 12c incl. DB 12c should and can I download using my OTN Account?
    Which OS works best with downloadable versions? Should I use Oracle Linux64 or a different OS or can I use Ubuntu 64 as well?
    Best regards

  • OEM 12c and OVM on the same box?

    Hi Guys and Girls!
    Thank you in advance for your support!
    Could you please share you experience, best practices and gotchas with installing OEM 12c and OVM on the same OL 5x box?
    We would like to install OEM 12 R2 on a OL57 server with an existing production (Oracle DB SE 11.2.0.3.0) Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1.625 installation.
    Some questions:
    1- Does Oracle support OEM and OVM on the same server?
    2- If Oracle VM Manager and the SE DB are already installed on an OL 57 server in /u01/app/oracle/product, can OEM 12c R2 be installed into /u01 as well, or should we use a different directoty, i.e. /u02?
    3- Will the OEM 12c installation program be able to use the same DB as Oracle VM Manager, i.e., its just creates the OEM DB schema and goes on its mary way without harming the Oracle VM Manager DB schema?
    Thank you,
    Roddy

    Alessandro,
    Thank you for your reply!
    The irony with my OEM and OVM on the same box question is that the Oracle Sales & Support teams as well as public Marketecture has been recommending collocating OEM & OVM!
    I agree with you 100% about resource consumption, and considering how often we must restore/reset Oracle VM Manager I am curious how supportable an OEM & OVM install is on the same box. 99% of my customers are not interested in supporting MySQL, i.e. the DBAs know Oracle not MySQL. As long as Oracle VM Manager resets (DB deletes) and UUID restores (uninstalls and re-installs)  will not damage OEM its all good.
    Thanks again for your support!

  • What is about Weblogic 12c and 32-Bit Linux

    Hi there,
    I have downloaded Weblogic 12c and the supported Konfiguration excel document.
    I only found 64 bit versions that are supported. What is about 32 bit ?
    Thanks for help.
    Regards
    Sascha

    If you want to see if the OS is 32/64-bit, then use:
    uname -m
    For actual processor information:
    cat /proc/cpuinfo

  • 12c and adding target database same name

    I'm upgrading an existing RAC database from 10.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.3 on new hardware. I have issue where I am trying to add the new database to EM 12c and its giving me an error that the individual rac names are already registered. Yes they are. On different hosts. I have a unquie name defined the cluster and that works fine. Its just when it goes to add the individual targets... they fails with name already exists.
    Anyone know how to work around this?
    Thanks

    You should have changed the SID during the system copy... SID stands for System ID... you can't have two systems with the same SID in the TMS

    Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately it did not help solve the problem.
    I have managed to get a JMS bridge working between 12c and 8.1 by including the 8.1 weblogic.jar on the classpath. This setup was using eis.jms.WLSConnectionFactoryJNDINoTX.
    After trying to use the adapter that supports transactions, WLSConnectionFactoryJNDIXA I received the following error:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: can only be called from server
    Is this because the Weblogic 12c server now views the 8.1 server as being foreign?

  • Connect as: normal with Oracle 12c and Toad 12 FAILS.

    Connect as: normal with Oracle 12c and Toad 12 FAILS.
    I've been looked at forums, blogs and wikies but I couldn't found why my new user, that I created before, can't connect as NORMAL but as SYSDBA it can.
    I don't know why this occurs.
    My intention is create a user/schema in a local DB to have my own db.
    I can create a new user but when I go to connect to this new schema I only connect as SYSDBA, this is a big trouble because I can "see" object's DBA and I don't want this, I want create my own new schema db and not share name's object or name's tables with DBA.
    For example, object JOB exists as SYSDBA and I can't create a new table with this name.
    Please, help me.

  • EM 12c and Solaris Zone Monitoring

    Hi all,
    I am using Oracle EM 12c to monitor Oracle database server which run on Solaris zone, which is capped to run using only 4 cores.
    BUT the Host management home page is still showing "Total Cores" of 8 (I am using Sun T4-1).
    Is there some configuration which required to be done to reflect the number of capped CPU.
    Also is there a way to isolate the CPU, Memory, Filesystem and Network utilization to only look at the local zone?
    I suspect what I see now represent the resource utilization of the physical machine.
    Thank you.
    -Joel

    Loc,
    I've opened quite a few SRs, some handled well, some not. My biggest issue perhaps is that SRs are needed at all. We are a small shop that relied on OEM 10.2 for a long time, skipped over 11G and went right to 12R2. It was a culture shock, and I'm not sure if skipping the version added to our woes.
    There are 3 DBAs here, with Oracle experience between 13 and 18 years, we are not newbies. I took the em12c class from Oracle.
    But still, acceptance of its use has not been high, mostly because it's no longer the quick, targeted place we 'go to'. It's a huge product now, with much built-in. We are finding we need a mind adjustment to use it and the transition period related to how much time we can spend on that. Our intent, though, was to make things easier, not harder.
    Case in point is our implementation of DataGuard. This project was new to us and I made EM12C upgrade as a predecessor project because I needed its help. I ultimately abandoned it, we hired a consultant, we learned manual steps, and that's what we use today. Everything is homegrown.
    I feel as through the purpose for EM moved from a DBA monitoring tool. Remember OEM 10.2 and its initial summary page that showed the overall health of everything on one shot? I can't do that in em12c, or at least haven't found that.
    Here are some SRs:
    SR 3-6392247151
    Sr 3-7159111371
    SR 3-6645421051
    * SR 3-6608820051
    SR 3-6667182071
    * Covers "invalid objects" missing, something we previously relied on.
    Back to the original question of this post - I understand now that if we use EM to switch our databases, the role reversal will show. We would have loved to rely on EM for everything. Now that we must do everything manually, I have to then manually drop the target being monitored and re-add it. Again, something that should make our jobs easier is now harder.
    Thanks for listening. Am I really the only DBA that says EM12C is harder to use for basic functionality?

  • JDeveloper 12c and Maven Dependencies

    I am facing issues with using Maven in JDeveloper 12c (12.1.2.0.0)
    I am trying to use Maven as a build tool. When I add a dependency to pom.xml (either directly in the source or using the gui) JDeveloper generates a library in the project (.jpr) file which seem to reference only the one dependency (one .jar file) I added but not other libraries the new dependency needs and references in it's pom file.
    If I build using maven all my dependencies (and the depencies of them etc...) are fetched  to my local repository but the JDeveloper project and IDE does not know of the extra libraries that were fetched. Do I really need to manually download any depencies and manually build a library for the JDev project to use for compilation?
    When I do the same in for example Netbeans the IDE resolves all the depencies and all classes end up in the IDE's classpath.

    Tried this again in a "clean" custom project, same errors.
    I added depency to drools-compiler to the pom (needs also reference to jboss repository, https://repository.jboss.org/nexus/content/repositories/releases)
    created a simple class which imports org.drools.builder.KnowledgeBuilder which is present in the depency tree of drools-compiler but not in the base jar that JDeveloper references.
    I get comilation error on the line:
    KnowledgeBuilder kbuilder = KnowledgeBuilder.newKnowledgeBuilder();
    I get the error both by compiling using JDeveloper and by running maven compile (error: cannot find symbol).
    The same code and pom works fine in Netbeans, haven't tried other IDE's.

  • JDeveloper 12c and SVN not working

    I have JDeveloper 12c on several machines in both a 'developer all in one integrated' and 'standard' environments (separate JDeveloper and Weblogic server).  When I commit changes to a Service Bus application pipeline (like add a http proxy) to my SVN server (I know this server works correctly) everything looks like it goes fine.  When I try to download the change on a different machine/JDeveloper the changes not only do not show up but the pipeline/proxy map is empty!  Anyone seen this behavior?

    Hi,
    I had seen this issue in JDev 11g, not in 12c though. I guess the JDeveloper system files got corrupted or not created properly. So, I deleted the system folder and reopened the JDeveloper and it worked fine for me.
    System folder would be located at %USERS%/AppData/Roaming/JDeveloper/system12.1.3.0.x.x.x. Delete the folder in both the machines and try.

  • WebLogic 12c and OSGi bundles ClassCastException error

    When I deploy an OSGi bundle to WebLogic 12c there are no errors. However, when I try and access my application I get the following error:
    java.lang.ClassCastException: com.sun.faces.taglib.jsf_core.ViewTag cannot be cast to javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.Tag
    I suspect that WebLogic 12c is loading different versions of the JSF than what I have in my OSGi bundle but I am unable to confirm (I tried to deploy the wls-cat tool but I continue to get 503 errors even after a server restart).
    My bundle currently uses JSF 1.1. After reading various forum posts, I have done the following but have not had any success:
    1. Followed the steps in Re: jsf 1.2 on weblogic 12c (i.e. deploying the jsf-1.2.war, modified my weblogic.xml accordingly in my war and then deployed, etc)
    2. Checked all of my manifest entries (which were correct) and even tried to set the required-bundles to my own JSF in the WEB-INF/lib directories
    Are there any instructions/settings for having OSGi bundles work within WebLogic 12c? Note that my OSGi bundle works correctly in WebLogic 11.
    Side question..I read that even though WebLogic 12c ships JSF 1.2 for backwards compatibility, it is deprecated for this release (as per http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24329_01/web.1211/e21049/configurejsfandjtsl.htm#i163099). Does that mean that even if I get my bundle deployed/working that if there are other errors/issues in the future then I would not be supported? I am just trying to confirm so that I can make a decision about upgrading my JSF.
    Thanks :)

    gday -
    WLS 12c (12.1.1) doesn't recognize OSGi bundles -- if you have a library you wish to use with your web application, then it needs to conform the packaging requirements for the Java EE deployment model you are using.
    If you are getting conflicts with a WLS supplied library (JSF in this case it appears) then you need to specify a filtering classloader definition in a weblogic deployment descriptor so that the web/app classloader is instructed to ignore a specified set of packages/resources from the parent loaders and load them locally.
    By way of an example, assume you have a web application in which you are bundling JSF 1.2 and you want to use this in place of the JSF 2.1 API/impl that is provided by WLS 12.1.1. In that case, you'd create a WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file and provide the following settings within in.
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app">
            <container-descriptor>
                        <prefer-application-packages>
                            <package-name>javax.faces.*</package-name>
                            <package-name>com.sun.faces.*</package-name>
                            <package-name>com.bea.faces.*</package-name>
                        </prefer-application-packages>
                        <prefer-application-resources>
                            <resource-name>javax.faces.*</resource-name>
                            <resource-name>com.sun.faces.*</resource-name>
                            <resource-name>com.bea.faces.*</resource-name>
                            <resource-name>META-INF/services/javax.servlet.ServletContainerInitializer</resource-name>
                        </prefer-application-resources>
            </container-descriptor>
    </weblogic-web-app>Deploying that with your application, in which you have supplied the JSF 1.2 API and implementation jars in the standard WEB-INF/lib directory will direct WLS to use those locally supplied libraries instead of its JSF API/implementation.
    Hope that helps.
