13.3" MBP to get i-core?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything through the searches.
I am debating on purchasing another 13.3" MBP as mine is getting outdated for what I want to do (Photoshop, 3D modeling (AutoCad) etc.). I was wondering if anyone had a guess to whether they will be introducing an upgraded 13.3" MBP next year with an i5 core at least or by incorporating the new Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

The 4.6 motif client is not able to run against the 4.0 Calendar Server.
It is strongly recommended that you use the 4.61 motif Calendar client (bundled with the 4.7
Communicator Pro release) or 4.51/4.52 against Calendar Server 4.0. There are
known problems when going offline while using the 4.5 client on any platform

    repaired this problem.

I actually have the Envy Ultrabook is why I asked. HP provided me one for a testing unit so we here on the Forum could keep abreast of their latest offerings. The mSSD accel cache is amazing. It gives ultrafast boot times and hard drive access. It does make the laptop hard to work with for tekkies, but for most users who will not try to monkey around with the OS, like dual boot with Linux or reload with a clean install of your own Windows 7 and other similar stuff it is a great performer...no need for a 7200 rpm drive.

  • Mbp 2.53ghz intel core 2 duo over heat

my mbp is over 70c I installed SMcFanControl and the fan is ruynning about 3,500rpm

the status on Istat about the fan say: Fan Exhaust?
    Help please
    greetings

I have mixed feelings on that subject.  The downside is more wear and tear on the fans and lower battery life. The upside is that, and perhaps more important, it does dissipate more heat.
I simply take the position that the Apple engineers know what they are dealing with and have designed the cooling system such that additional modifications are not necessary.  However I have on occasions placed my MBP on large aluminum plates to act as large heat sinks when using the MBP for lengthy periods of time where much heat is generated, such as watching video.
General rule:  If you can keep it cooler, so much the better.
    Ciao.

  • How can i get Intel Core 2 Duo?

I have an iMac Mac OS X Version 10.6.8, how can i get Intel Core 2 Duo?

You are in the Snow Leopard forum. Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor. Maybe you think that's what you need in order to run TM. But you don't, you need Leopard. Snow Leopard will not run on your Mac.
I see you are running Tiger. You need to get the Leopard Install DVD. You can't download Leopard. Post back if you want to know how to get the DVD. It may still be available from Apple.
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867  MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider,  fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.
EDIT: And, you don't have to have Time Machine. You can make a very good backup with Tiger, which will be an exact clone of your internal drive, using several programs, one of which is free. Post back if you want more information.

  • Need opinions as to which MBP to get

    Hey everyone,
I'm new here, so forgive me if I break any rules here, and if this thread is in the wrong place I am sorry. I'm a senior in high school right now, and I am looking to get a MBP for college. For school, we are issued a Macbook and we will have to return it at the end of the year. The specs:
    Version 10.6.4
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Because we have to return it at the end of the year, I was looking for to buy a MBP. I was looking at the $1799 MBP but I wanted to know if the speeds with be noticeably faster than an IC2D/if this would be the best choice.
Basically what I would want to use the laptop for would be schoolwork first (writing papers, powerpoints etc),
then some gaming (Starcraft 2 etc). I also like to record music in Garageband, and edit videos and upload them to YouTube, and when I upload them, it is in bulk; many 10 minute videos in HD.
Basically, should I get that MBP now based on what I am wanted to use it for, or should I wait and see what they have in store with the faster models/if I even need them.
If I could get some opinions and ideas, that would be greatly appreciated! Again, sorry if I have broken any rules.

Not knowing all the details, the entire scenario raises some potential concerns and consideration.
    First the concerns:
"For school, we are issued a Macbook and we will have to return it at the end of the year." What does that entail? Do you wipe the hard drive and then give it back to the school? Over the course of a semester or year, I would expect that you will be placing some rather confidential info on the system. I would not want to just hand this back to anyone without wiping the drive - the right way.
Also, then you get to your second year. What happens then - they give you a new one that also has to be turned back in? So what happens to all the files that you may want to keep throughout your education? Guessing maybe a backup would be a good idea - perhaps Time Machine.
    Considerations:
What are you going to school for? If you are going into engineering, computer science, or actually many degrees that may eventually require more than your initial considerations for use, then a MBP would start to look that much more appealing. Of course there is the issue of what one can afford or what you want to spend. But if you did purchase a higher end MBP then it would likely take you through a 4 year program without a hitch and although it might represent a one-time higher entry cost, you would probably not have to be concerned about getting another one until you graduated, or even after.
I mentioned the below comment in another post, but it may also apply to your situation:
If you opted for the 8GB then you might want to consider the 4GB (save $400) and install an 8GB upgrade yourself (seems like the "do it yourself option" is about half, or close to it, so maybe could save $200 in total if that is part of your configuration - enough for the i7 without remorse). Then if you are really savvy you could sell the 4GB off, some places may even offer a rebate if you buy an 8GB RAM upgrade and send in the 4GB. I have just read about hem - goggle at your pleasure. On the flip side of this, I am not sure if upgrading the RAM yourself has any ramifications as far as AppleCare is concerned, or if you even were going to purchase that (which also seems, in general, highly recommend).
If this is available route, make sure you read the AppleCare terms and conditions and likely a good chat with an AppleCare rep would settle the issue without ado.
But, I would also qualify this to your situation. You could just get 4GB now and see if you even need the 8GB and then install that as needed.
And just to throw in another 2nd hand comment. My nephew is going through a 4 year degree. Since I am also researching and interested in getting a MBP (please see my post for own particular questions http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2612396&tstart=0), I asked him what the kids at his college were using - which was more popular the Macbook or MBP. Unequivocally, he said that the MBP was the definitive choice. He is not at a "rich kids school" and many of his friends who have MBP are in business majors, which I would make a general statement and assume require less computing power than someone in an engineering or cs discipline, where much of the focus is actually on computers and use, not just using a computer for the standard applications and recreational use.
Hope this helps or at least gives you more to think about. Good luck in school.

  • Will final cut 7 work on a 13" mbp 2.5GHz dual-core i5

  • Late 2011 MBP i7 gets slow with and after Aperture

My first post, please pardon my ignorance. I have read similar threads but I believe my situation is a bit different.
Anyway, my late 2011 MBP i7 4GB ram, running on SL gets very slow after I open/browse/edit in Aperture. The system does page out to 1.3 gb. When using Safary and email, it becomes very painfull even after I close out the Aperture. The whole system becomes laggy and menus become delayed. The only solution is to reboot and my mac is back like new until I open the Aperture again. Every program is up to date and only about 160gb out of 500gb HDD being used.
Heres what I've done so far:
    1. long hardware test checked ok
    2. NVRAM reset
    3. downloaded Kasperski and found no viruses
    4. rebuild/repair aperture database
    5. ordered 8gb crucial ram, should be in in a few days
Is it due to not having enough RAM? My previous 2006 MBP Core 2 Due was almost as fast running on Lion and 4GB ram. I would expect a significant speed increase on my 4 core i7, but unfortunately it's not the case.

Paging out to 1.3 gig effectively means that a lot of stuff is sitting in virtual memory on your hard disk.  The i7 is great for improving the speed of whatever is in memory, but anything that is paged out is limited to the performance of the HDD and SATA bus.
The cheapest and most effective first step is to max out your RAM. It's a modest investment that will benefit you immensely. The second step is to replace mechanical disks with SSDs. Currently, this is a pricy proposition, but the performance improvement can be nearly 100% over a mechanical drive system.
At the end of the day, it's about how much money you want to spend to go as fast as you can afford.

  • Aperture performance on MBP 17" 2.16GHz Core Duo

    Hi everyone,
I've been happily using Aperture for a couple of years and apart from a few niggles I love it.
I'm using a Macbook Pro 17" 2.16GHz (Core Duo) with 2GB RAM (the maximum) and an after-market 320GB 4200rpm internal hard drive. Running OS X 10.5.8 and Aperture 2.1.4. My hard drive is quite full, about 25GB free space. My Aperture library is about 60GB.
However I recently upgraded from a 6MP dslr to a 15Mp dslr and at approximately the same time Aperture performance began to take a nosedive. Now opening an image will sometimes beachball for 10 seconds (at other times they open normally in about 2 seconds). Cloning has become a nightmare of sluggishness, just clicking the retouch tool will beachball for 10 or more seconds and every edit will take a few seconds to appear.
Apart from buying a new Mac, what are my best options to improve performance? Its got so bad I'm starting to think about switching to Lightroom! (I read somewhere that Aperture is limited by the video card RAM, and my card only has 256MB I think. Apparently Lightroom doesn't do this?)
    Thanks!
Edit: Don't know if it has any relevance, but I have never used Aperture's Vault feature. I don't even really understand it to be honest . I backup my photos online to Mozy.

The file sizes on the 15 MP files are 2.5x larger than on the 6 MP camera. So by nature it's going to be slower.
What's causing it? Probably a mix of all 3. That machine is 2.5 years old now; things have gotten faster and with larger RAW file sizes it will be taxed.
You could always see if you could get to an Apple Store and load up a card with a few of your images and see how it goes. Challenge being, new machines are running 10.6 and there have been reports here that Aperture on 10.6 is slower than it is on 10.5 (seems better with 10.6.2 than 10.6.1 but still not sure if it's 100% as fast) so there are a lot of variables going on there.

  • WIll Mountain Lion Support My MBP 17 2.33 Core 2 Duo?

    Background:
I'm currently running Snow Leopard, have recently lost my MobileMe syncing (2 weeks ago) with the closure of the MobileMe service and I'd like to use iCloud to hook in with my iPhone 4S and iPad 3. Given Apple's unfortunate sequencing of dates as regards when MobileMe was discontinued and when Mountain Lion is released, I'd like to avoid upgrading to Lion to use iCloud, only to upgrade to Mountain Lion a couple of weeks later. I am currently without the ability to sync calendars, contacts etc on my MBP on the native apps, and yes I know I can log into the iCloud website every time I want to add a calendar entry etc but that isn't the same as having syncing run automatically and natively on the machine and in the background whilst I use the normal system apps.
Therefore, I'm trying to find out if my MBP is compatible with Mountain Lion but it's seeminlgy very difficult to find out and Apple aren't exactly helpful on the issue.
The link to the tech specs for Mountain Lion is here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    The site says:
Supported Models: MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
The spec for my MBP is here:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .33-17-specs.html
It says they were introduced late 2006 but I don't know exactly when mine was bought. I am trying to double check receipts etc.
MacRumors provides a bit of insight:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1402449
"the connection to 32-bit graphics drivers as the culprit"
Predicament: Unfortunately the Mountain Lion tech specs provide rough date ranges, instead of specific models / configurations supported, which isn't helpful at all.
Q: In the absence of any further information, how can I find out whether or not my machine is compatible? What can I check in About This Mac to give me a clue?
Any constructive feedback is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you...
    Clown Guy
P.S. I would have posted this in the Mountain Lion forum.... but there isn't one!?!

"Supported Models: MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)"
That means the models introduced in mid/late 2007 and after.
"The spec for my MBP is here:
    "http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .33-17-specs.html
"It says they were introduced late 2006 but I don't know exactly when mine was bought. I am trying to double check receipts etc."
Your model was introduced before 2007. That means your model is too early to qualify. It doesn't matter when it was bought, just when it was designed and introduced.
I share your pain. I'm typing this on MacBook Pro the same vintage as yours.  It fails the technical test about 32/64-bit EFI boot code:
    ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi
        | |   "firmware-abi" = <"EFI32">

  • Can't Decide On Which MBP To Get, Can Someone Help?

So I might get a MacBook Pro tomorrow and I'm not sure whether if I should get a regular MBP or one with Retina Display @ 13". I will mainly be using it for music, will install Parallels and use FL Studio, other than that mainly use OS X. Any suggestions?

I just made the switch to the RETINA , after using a 2008 MBP I decided i wanted the new rMBP and I have to tell you that I noticed a huge difference in the way FACE TIME LOOKS on the RETINA screen it looks as though you are sitting in the room and there is no DELAY when you are moving.  I was amazed at the RETINA when watching MOVIES.  I put my MACBOOK PRO 2008 up against my 2013 rMBP and there is a huge difference.  QUALITY that cannot be beat.  Others' are saying not to go RETINA, but it's a persoal preference to each his own.  Go to the APPLE STORE AND TEST ONE OUT before you order or buy.  YOU WON"T BE SORRY if you test drive the retina first @ the APPLE STORE be sure you ask a genuis all the questions you can to help you decide.

  • Purchasing MBP & then get a Hi Res Screen Installed?

Hi, I couldn't find this question submitted.
I am thinking of buying a new MBP UK, 15-inch: 2.6 GHz. I primarily want to use it for some Visual Effects work & regular activities (ie Web, photo, etc.) I don't think I can afford the Retina & if I could, I'd rather buy the top non Retina at this stage as the lower Retina's HD is too small & I'd want to upgrade RAM.
Is it possible to get a Hi Res screen (the one offered on the configure page for £80) fitted after you have purchased the laptop? Or do you have to upgrade it through Apple when you buy? If it is possible does anyone know where? If this is not possible I guess it's best to buy it standard & get an external display in the future.
    Thanks in advance.
