13" and 1440x900 WXGA+

Hello,
The idea about what I am going to ask came from a friend of mine who succesfully replaced his XGA screen for SXGA without any difficulty on his Asus laptop.
I want to ask about the compatibility between displays – is there any standardized kind of connector? Is there any standardized data stream? My idea is replacing the 13" WXGA screen for the one which can be seen in some recend Dell models or IBM x200 – the one with 1440x900 resolution.
I would be happy for any information regarding the topic.
Thanks.

I too can't stand the 1280 x 800 screen in my 13" MacBook Pro...
Then why on earth did you buy it?
Because I need a small laptop, but yet with enough power to run what I need.
I could have found a PC with a small size and a higher res screen, but the design is not as good as the Mac, and plus, PC's don't run OS X (and I didn't want to play the "hackintosh" game)
I just wanted a system that would work, and the 13" MacBook Pro is the closest I could find.

  • MSI PM8M3-V MB with 1440x900 WXGA display?

I just bought MSI PM8M3-V (P4M800CE + VT8237R Plus) motherboard and I'm trying to use my new Acer AL1916W 16:10 monitor with it, and I don't get to choose 1440x900 resolution.
The S3G UniChrome Pro IGP onboard card have drivers that support max 1440x900, and I'm using those drivers, but maybe the motherboard BIOS doesn't support this resolution?
Anyone had the same problem? Know how to fix this?
    Any ideas?

    >> How could a mobo BIOS fix your display problem?
I thought so as well at first.
The solution seems kinda like the one in this thread: http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=74011&enterthread=y
My problem is well explained there as well.
I've been building pc's for many years, and it's the first for me as well, where I might have to flash the MB BIOS to be able to run 1440x900. Probably because it's an onboard display adapter. Not usually a fan of those, but since the computer with the problem is for Windows use only (and no gaming), I saw no use in spending money on a display adapter other than the one bundled with the MB.
From the thread I pasted above:
"The VIA Unichrome onboard video does support this resolution, but the mainboard maker has to put this resolution into the mainboard's VGA BIOS in order for you to have this resolution available.
VGA BIOS is built into the mainboard's BIOS if you have onboard video of any kind. In order to update the VGA BIOS you must update the mainboard's BIOS. You cannot do them seperately. BIOS updates must come from the maker of the mainboard."
"For example - here is the latest BIOS for ASUS P5VDC-MX motherboard, which uses P4M800 UniChrome:
    BIOS Version 0709
    1. Initial Release for P5VDC-MX Version 2.0
    2. Add Support for 1440x900 WXGA
    3. Add support for RAID5 "
Seems like this is the solution, at least for the ASUS and ECS mainboard. Both of the endusers asked ASUS And ECS and they made BIOS's available that was compatible with 1440x900 resolution.
    >> Have you installed the drivers for you monitor yet?
Yep, and it didn't work :(

  • What monitor for MBA 13" and 1440x900?

    Hi,
a user has a MBA 13" and wants a monitor.
My question is, should I buy one monitor with the optimal resolution of 1440x900 to match the MBA? Or
a monitor with 1920x1080 will work too?
I'm afraid that if I choose the 1920x1080 optimal resolution LCD monitor, the image will look blurry at 1440x900.
Anyone has a MBA 13" 1440x900 and en external monitor? How is it working?
    Many thanks
    Oliver
P.D.: can't afford the thundebold display

    Hi Oliver,
The MacBook Air will power a 1920x1080 monitor just fine, mine does everyday. It depends on if you want to mirror display or if you're running the machine in closed lid mode. If you mirror the display, to where what's on the screen of the MBA is the same thing as what's on the screen of the display then you're going to be limited to the 1440x900. But running the machine in extended or closed lid at the higher resolution will work just fine.

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and 1440x900 resolution on G4?

I am looking to purchase a new widescreen monitor (Viewsonic VA1912WB) which supports a native resolution on 1440x900. I am trying to determine if the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro card will properly support this resolution. Anyone have a clue, or tried it yourselves? Thanks!

I had found that page and had drawn the same "hopeful" conclusion that you are suggesting. I also looked in my displays preference pane and noticed quite a few options that aren't on the ATI site as "supported displays," which leads me to believe it's possible.
I've checked out some other boards (pc based) and they are able to make it work but it involves modifying all sorts of driver files. Stupid PC's!
Anyone else out there have the ATI card and the ability to test that resolution?

  • Is WXGA+(1440x900)LED LCD coming to T500, if so can I change panels later myself????

I really like the t500 series, and wanted to buy it for few months but the did not have LED displays. But finally lenovo released the WXGA LED , which is great except for low resolution .  And for some reason t400 has the WXGA+ LED.
I talked to lenovo reps on the phone, but nobody can give a definite answer on if WXGA+ coming to T500.
    So the question is:
If I buy t500 with WXGA LED LCD, and then lenovo releases WXGA+ LED LCD, Will I be able to purchase the display panel it self, and then install it into my laptop myself, or will it require changing other hardware component as well????
    Q2:
Or should I Just go for WSXGA+(1680×1050) TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight???
    Thanx.

    Welcome to the forum!
While I can't answer your question on if and when WXGA+ LCDs are coming to T500 series, there are a couple of other things that I can tell you:
    a) By replacing the LCD by yourself you will void the warranty.
    b) The cost of WXGA+ LCD in addition to T500 without one is likely to cost you a lotmore than a factory-configured T500 with the LCD that you want.
From my (not so modest) experience, most T models are always offered with more than one resolution, so I believe that you'll get to see WXGA+ on a T500...
    Hope this helps.

    George

  • [T410] discrete gfx - Problem with Video Card and Windows Aero -anyone using 4Gb memory modules?

    [3/3/2010 Update]
There's a issue of using 4Gb sticks on T410 currently that results in video output artifacts and aero interface problems when using Lenovo supplied drivers v8.16.11.8825. I think I can call it confirmed (Three people including me face this issue).
Possible workaround is to install modified EliteBook 8440p video driver (read along this thread) comes with a BIG drawback of not being able to change brightness level within Windows 7. To sweeten it a little bit - you can set luminance level at POST screen, when computer boots up.
    [Original Message]
Encountered strange behavoir of my T410.
I have a T410 with 256Mb of Video Memory and 1440x900 display, a T61 with 128Mb of Video Memory and 1400x1050 dsplay and external monitor HP w2338h with 1920x1080 resolution.
If I connect external monitor to my T410 and launch Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 - image blinks and comes back with Aero disabled. Looking through event logs reveals the lack of memory. Entry information can be found further.
Now If I do the same with my old Thinkpad T61, connect the same monitor using the same cable - I can open as many Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 instances I like (tried 5) and nothing blinks and Aero stays enabled.
Actually I find ridiculous, a notebook with more VRAM cannot archive the same performance as notebooks with less.
Does anyone know what path should I pursue to solve this issue?
UPDATE: Simply running multiple instances of Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 without external monitor causes Aero disabled as well.

  • How to enable only intel graphics/discrete graphics on T400(WxgA+), windows xp,

I got a T400  with switchabale graphics (something i dont understand). I want my 9 cells to  provide as long a run as feasible
without recharging. Which mode of graphics should i set it to and how do i do it?.
My blackbox (a bit heavy for me for carrying ) is a t400 with 9 cells and a wxga+, 2gb,120GB.

Edited: Sorry, missed the first time that you were on XP. The answer below is for Vista only. For XP because of op sys limitations you don't have true switchable graphics capability. You can switch between the two graphics cards during BIOS setup only. To switch, reboot turning power off, then power on and on initial screen hold F1 to enter BIOS setup. Choose config and then display, and toggle graphics between integer (energy saving) and discrete (high performance). First time you switch you may have to reboot an extra time to allow the drivers to install.
If you have the latest release of the power manager (2.42) right click on it (the battery icon) and choose switchable graphics. If you are still on 2.37 or earlier release of the power manager left click instead. Once you have found the switchable graphics option switch between the two graphics cards by choosing energy saving and high performance GRAPHICS. (NOT similar options in the normal part of the power manager.)

  • Native resolution changed - now missing 1440x900

Somehow my Macbook Pro 15-inch mid 2012 (not Retina) computer went from a 1440x900 resolution, which I liked, to 1680x1050! This is now the native resolution and 1440x900 is NOT one of the few resolution options I have under Scaled. I tried resetting PRAM but that did nothing. I rebooted. Nothing.
This is all I have now:
I am using the most current release of OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) and all of my apps are up to date. I am not using an external monitor and never have.
1680x1050 is far too small for my old eyes and 1280x800 is too big. How do I get 1440x900 back? Help!

    Try resetting PRAM.

  • T61 and external Samsung SyncMaster T190

I'm trying to configure my T61 to work with an external screen - a Samsung SyncMaster T190.   What I want is the same desktop to appear on both screens, with the resolution of 1400x1050 on the Thinkpad,  and 1440x900 (the best resolution) on the Samsung.
I can only seem to get these resolutions to work if I go to dual-mode, splitting the desktop over both monitors.  If I go to clone mode,  (same desktop on both monitors) it chooses a maximum resolution of 1360x768 for both screens which looks horrible on the Samsung.
I got to a point (by fluke) that I had 1440x900 on both,  which was ok,  but I can't seem to replicate that again since I rebooted.  I can also get 1440x900 on the Samsung if I choose it to be the main screen, with no display on the laptop.
Not too clever with this sort of stuff.  What do I need to do,  or is this just not possible?
    Thanks

Does the problem go away after short period of time?
It should work fine with direct HDMI connection.

This brings up the question: How can you order a pre-configured ThinkPad like those listed in tabook? Do you have to buy from a reseller? Why can't you order one from the online Lenovo Store? (Maybe you can, but it's not obvious to me how to do it, at least for the U.S. online store...)

  • Can I replace my 1440x900 LCD screen with a 1680x1050 screen?

    I have a PB G4, 17" A1107, with 1.67GHz, 2GB, Double Layer Superdrive, and 1440x900 display.
The display has developed 8 vertical lines of different colors.
These lines are not visible on the external LCD connected via the DVI port. So, that
pretty much rules out the video ram as the source of the lines.
That leaves the LCD itself, and the LVDS data cable.
What I would like to do is replace the LCD with a high resilution one of
    1680x1050.
Assuming there is nothing wrong with the LVDS data cable, will
the high res lcd panel work in my A1107?
    Thanks for your exprt help.

    The logic board?
You mean the ATI 9700 graphix chip with 128MB Video Ram, right?
My G4 has the same graphics chip and video ram as the A1139 with
the 1680x1050 lcd panel. So, what are you basing your over-general
    statement of "the logic board"?
The internal layout? I am not changing the internal layout.
You obviously have never opened an A1139, nor an A1107.
You would NEVER tell the difference between them. They are
identical except for user selected options like how much ram,
dual layer or single layer  dvd drive,  has wireless or not, has
1440x900 or 1680x1050 panel.... those kind of differences.
    But otherwise they are identical.
I am not saying I would go ahead and do it, and **** the torpedos.
I was hoping to see if someone has some real experience of having done it
or tried to do it, and share that experience with some hard technical facts.

Apple doesn't offer the option of full resolution (2880x1800) and says everything other than 1440 x 900 won't look as good as 1440x900.
so while you can set the monitor to 17" resolution (1920x1080) it has to simulate it on a 2880x900 screen and has to blur and reinterpolate elements to make it work

Indeed. Everything except 2880x1800, which is unavailable without SwitchResX, and 1440x900, which comfortably fits one pixel of the image into a four pixel square of the Retina Display, must be simulated or scaled. However, while the scaling is real, the 17" "simulation" looks as good, to my eye at least, as my wife's MBP 17". Going smaller will test one's eyes probably as much as Apple's scaling algorithms so the tradeoff for greater screen real-estate may turn out not to be as bad as we'd think. Hi,
I just checked the U.S. lenovo site and they do not sell the X200s with the 1400x1050 LED screen anymore.
Does anyone have a clue about the reason?

Only the X6* tablet had 1400x1050 (SXGA+), this is a 4:3 format resolution. Do you mean 1440x900 (WXGA+)?

  • G4 imac - 720p?

I'd like to get some 720p video currently my G4 imac to show up on my 720p HDTV with the full 1280x720 resolution.
It is uncompressed 720p so my G4, slow as it is, can play it back without the gitters. So using the HDTV as a monitor would work, but I loose the 720p for lack of a good enough port on the iMac.
One way I can think of is through AppleTV, and I think I'll have to H.264 it for that and that conversion takes forever. Something like 1 minute of video takes 20+ minutes of conversion.
Another possibilty is to buy a miniMac and move everything over there I think? It has the DVI port that my iMac lacks I believe?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

Although technically the VGA standard is 640x480 @ 256 colours in fact that 15pin D-Sub connector will support much higher resolutions.
Wikipedia: VGA... ...It may also refer to the 15-pin D-subminiature VGA connector which is still widely used to carry analog video signals of all resolutions. (My Emphasis.)
On the iMac G4 the graphics card is limited by Apple to output a maximum resolution equal to the native resolution of the LCD display. This means that the VGA port on an iMac G4 will drive the following maximum external resolutions:
    15" - 1024x 768 (XGA)
    17" - 1440x900 (WXGA+)
    20" - 1680x 1050 (WSXGA+)
