13 hours to transfer 94GB to from LaCie to iMac?

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 20" iMac with 2.5 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. It has been behaving badly, so I moved all of my files onto external drives and did an Erase and Install of Mac OS X 10.5.
The install is complete, and I am now transferring via a FireWire 400 connection from a LaCie d2 Extreme 300 GB hard drive back onto the iMac HD several folders containing a total of 41,000 items weighing in at 94 GB. The "Copy" pop-up in the Finder says this will take 13 hours (and, two hours into the operation with under 20 GB completed, I believe it).
This seems excessive, and I'm wondering if it is indicative of my iMac's performance problems being more substantial than I had hoped. Can anyone shed some light on whether this transfer rate is reasonable?

I would startup from your Mac OS X installation disc (insert disc and restart with C key held down). At Installer's first screen, go up to the menu bar. Under Utilities, select the command to run Disk Utility. This time, run +Repair Disk+ in your internal drive.
If you did an erase before reinstalling, that should have fixed any existing disk errors. However, if your hard drive is starting to become unreliable, +Repair Disk+ may report new errors. I think you have eliminated the external drive as the cause, so it must some issue with the internal drive.

If your intention is to copy a just documents and data (word processing files and music for example) then yes, you can use drag and drop. If you want to transfer data and applications and permissions, it would actually be easiest to connect the drive to your old computer and turn on TimeMachine. Once TM is finished, connect the drive to your new computer and restart it holding the option key to get into Recovery mode. Then you can use the restore from TM option to transfer your data and programs to the new computer.

Your best bet by far is to use Setup Assistant when the new Mac first starts up to transfer directly from the old one.
It's similar to Migration Assistant, but doing it that way will avoid having an extra user account.
Either way, you can connect them via FireWire, Thunderbolt, or your network, but avoid wireless if at all possible. You can connect both to your netwrork via Ethernet, or put a single cable between the two.

The fastest way is to boot your iBook in Firewire target disk mode. The iBook will then appear as an external FireWire drive on your iMac.

How to transfer a book from iPhone to iMac

Hi,
I pre-ordered a book but when it's available to download, I can't download it on the mac. But I have no problems downloading it on my iPhone.
Any ideas why it's happening? Can I transfer the book from the phone to mac via iTunes? (I only know how to sync books from iTunes to iPhone, but not vice versa.)

Tried logging in and out. Didn't work.
Tried transferring purchases from iPhone to mac via iTunes. Didn't work.
One thing did change however, which is now in iTunes on the mac, I can see the book under the Settings/Books section ( i think it means I have this book on the mac). If I delete the book on iPhone, I can succesfully regain it by syncing from mac to iPhone using iTunes. But the fact is, I don't have the book in iBooks on mac. It still has this cloud icon in the upper right corner. And no matter how many times I tried to download it, it just didn't work.
Too frustrating to fix this problem. I guess I'm better off just viewing it on the phone.

Iphoto transfer of photos from iphone to iMac

I tried to export 1200 pics from iphone5 to iMac in iPhoto. photos seemed to transfer and I deleted from my phone at prompt. now i go in iphoto and these "new" event "folders" are empty. Where are my pics? I looked in icloud and I see 999 in "my photo stream" and most appear to be the pictures I was working with. How do I get them to my event "folders"? I am afraid my computer will sync with the cloud and I will loose my photos. Please advise.

Thanks so much for your help Gail, some of the points you made helped me better understand iPhoto and icloud. I ended up going to a store and getting help at the genius bar. They could not figure out what had happened so they had to restore my phone from the cloud to the day before the problem started. I lost a few minor things from 3 days (texts, photos) but got most of my "lost" photos restored back to my phone. I have not yet imported them to my computer (a little chicken!). I also signed up for one to one classes so I am going to spend some time learning more about iPhoto so I can better control my photos.
BTW something kind of weird - They restored my phone on Tuesday and it still says it is being restored. I am sure it should be done by now! It is plugged in and on wifi every night so not sure why it hasn't finished the process. The only reason I am even aware of this (cuz the phone seems to be working fine) is that it says I have a software update to do and when I go to that window it says at the bottom "you can install this update when your iphone is finished restoring from the icloud backup." I have another appointment next week so I figure I will deal with it then.

Will Mountain Lion allow the transfer of photos from iPod to iMac?

I'm aware that in previous versions of OS X, one can transfer photos actually taken on an iPod touch, but not those previously sent to the ipod by ones iMac.
I'm wondering if this inability has been overcome in Mountain Lion.
Advice welcomed.

If it doesn't work as you normall use it, open iTunes
prefs -> iPod and check Enable disk use.
It should show up in your program.
If is still does not, you can open the iPod (it's on
the desktop) and your photos are in the DCIM folder.

Thank you so much for your help. I've been feeling a bit dense about it all!
I managed to find the photos in the DCIM folder and from there I called each one up and copied them individually to "My Pictures". It's a bit long winded but it has the desired result which is to display them from My Pictures as a slide show on my P.C.
It's fun trying it all out, today I also managed (not quite sure how) to download some French language lessons and upload them on the ipod. I'm sure I'm probably not using the most efficient methods but I'll keep going ! Thank you once again for being so helpful.
