13-in Pro Question

What is the difference between the 13-in 750GB 5400-rpm and the 13-in 500GB 5400-rpm? What exactly does 5400-rpm mean? Is that the same difference as between 2.4 GHz and 2.8 GHz?

5400rpm refers to revolutions per minute.  So a hard drive with higher rpm's would be faster but would comsume slightly more power.  2.4GHz vs 2.8GHz refers to the speed of the processor, not related to the hard drive.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I need to make a master DVD that can then be duplicated in bulk as a single layer disc.  This surprises me because I tried burning a different DVD project that has worked in the past which is also 4.5 GB and now I could not burn that either.  I also reencoded some material to get the new project down to 4.4 GB but it still would not burn.  Any ideas are appreciated.

  • A Compressor/DVD studio pro question

    Hi all.
    I have a Compressor/DVD studio pro question.
I have a compressor setting that is just the standard DVD MPEG 2 best quality 120 minutes. I have only changed the video setting to Pal as I am in Australia.
When I go to import the rendered product into DVD Studio Pro I get an error message saying "incorrect format". I even tried importing the rendered file into Toast Titanium and I get the same message from that program.
Can anyone help with this problem?

In DVD SP you have to set the format, NTSC or PAL first. Then import the clip. If there is already footage from one format already in the project you cannot flip it to the other. You have to remove the footage first. Then try flipping to PAL. Sometimes it doesn't work. Generally only video footage is ID'ed as PAL or NTSC. Audio just has frequency.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro question

I'm working in Acrobat 9 Pro. I have a three page form. I need to add the same number in the same position at the top of each page. I then need to send that form to our in-house copier to print it. I then need the same form with next numerical number at the top of each page, send it to the copier for a second printing. I basically need to end up with a set of forms starting with the number 100 at the top of the first three pages, 101 at the top of the next three pages and so on and so on. Is there an way to do this without creating individual three page document? Thanks for any help!

  • Brand new 865 Pro questions!

    Hi all,
I just bought myself a Mega 865 Pro Supreme
I read in the software manual that if I want to install InstantON (I presume InstantON is the feature that allows me to use radio and CD without booting windows?) then I cannot install any AGP graphics card?!?!
Surely this can't be true! If so, I've been royally ripped off spending the extra to get the radio tuner
    1) Has anyone successfully got this feature to work with an AGP graphics card installed?
    2) I am looking at getting either a 9600XT or a 6600, this PC will not be for games, only for HTPC, any recommendations?
    3) I need to buy a CPU and my options appear to be Prescott 5xx or 6xx (for more money).  Does it make a difference which one I get?  If the 6xx runs cooler I would probably consider getting it.
    Thanks in advance
    BJ.

    Cripes!
Well I did, and it didn't!
In further news, I installed WinXP last night and all the stuff on the drivers/Utilities CD to see what comes with it.  (I will reinstall once I work out what's important).
Which leads to my next question...what is important!
    1) Something that I installed stopped the 'Eject' button from rebooting the machine, what was that?
    2) Does anyone use LiveUpdate? It worked fine for the software, but when I tried the BIOS it just said your BIOS has been updated and didn't do anything??  I have 1.00 and it looks like 1.03 is available, any idea how to get this going?
    3) PC Alert is nice because it makes use of the 'Fancy LED'    but when installing it says it slows down your machine, is this true? How severely?
    4) InterVideo Home Theatre is awful, so slow to respond to anything...I notice some people leave this installed and then use a different program of their choice for HTPC needs, why leave it installed at all?  Does it offer some advantages?
    5) The SCM program offered me a tray icon to check my mail....surely that's not what's it for?
Thanks again for all your help so far!

  • A few final cut pro questions...

hey i was wondering if final cut pro 5.0 is compatible on leopard. if not is it compatible on mac OS X 10.4.9? and is final cut express 4 better then final cut pro HD(4.5). or should i buy final cut pro HD(4.5) and forget about FCE 4. leave your opinion about FCE 4 and FCP HD and if you know tell me about FCP 5.0 and leopard.

5.0 is not compatible with intel machines... 5.1 was the first version that did, and is no longer available, and wasn't free either. You need to upgrade to Studio 2 to run FCP on your machine.
FCP 4.5 (HD) also won't run on an intel mac...
FCE 4 will run on an intel Mac, however FCP HD is a ton more robust than FCE anything.
FCE might be all you need though. Depends on what you want to do... So what might that be? What format do you intend to edit? What sort of work is it etc... If you're a working professional, then there's no question FCS 2 is where you should be looking.

  • Hard Drive for Mac Pro Questions

Hi, I have 2, 600GB hard drives (Approximately) in my Mac Pro. 1 is for Windows Vista, the other is for Leopard. I'm running low on storage space on the Mac Side. I customized my Mac Pro when I bought it off the Apple Site.
I would like to add another hard drive to my Mac so I have more storage space, 600 GB would be a good size. Would this Hard Drive work? http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB983ZM/A.
I've never installed a hard drive in a computer before. Is it safe to do? is it difficult? My only fear is somehow messing up my mac.
I would like the new hard drive to only be used on my Mac Side running Leopard (not Windows Vista). how would I do this?
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks guys. I have a couple more questions, I'll be purchasing a 1TB Hard Drive. Why are the hard drives much more expensive from the Apple Store than from Amazon? Is it safer to pay more money and buy the hard drive from the Apple Store than from Amazon?
After I install the Hard Drive will I see a New Hard Drive Icon on my Desktop?
How do I tell the computer that the new Hard drive will be used only on the mac side and not the Windows side?
When I go into Disk Utility to format how will I know which is the new hard drive? I don't want to accidentally format my current hard drive will all my data on it.
How will I store data on the new hard drive?
    Any info is greatly appreciated.

  • Canon EOS 7-D/Workflow Final cut Pro questions.

Today i just upgraded my final cut pro from 5 to the latest 7.0.3, and im having trouble viewing my clips.
    First off, im very confused.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3249
i read this entire article and still cant view my clip in the timeline. Here's what im doing.
I plugged in my card into a card reader,
next i opened final cut pro, and i opened up log and transfer.
my clips are all there, and i can preview them all.
Step 3 is what confuses me.
    3. In the Import Preferences window, select 'Canon DSLR' as your Source, and then select the Transcode to format of your choice (such as ProRes 422).
when i open up my settings/preferences in the log/transfer settings i cant seem to find "canon dslr, or how to make it my "source".
instead, i see AVCHD PLugin, P2 PLug in, MPEG2 Consumer Cameras, and Canon E1. i selected the Obvious Canon E1 (because thats the plug in you download) and when i added it to the queue it finished and i am still unable to see it in the right window. There's audio but the screen is white.
So the burning questions i have..
    What am i doing wrong?
What do you use for your easy format or custom format?

First don't use Final Cut to import directly from the card. Use Disc Utility to make a new image of the card from your card reader onto a hard drive. Make a back up copy of this by dragging it to another drive if possible. Now if anything goes wrong you are secure. Open one of these disk images and log and transfer from them with FCP.
You do this by opening log and transfer window. Use the top left button in the window to point to the files. On the other side of the left pane at the top open preferences, select the Canon E1 but then double click the little arrows which should open another window and offer a selection of versions of ProRes, choose Apple ProRes or ProRes LT, anything higher is overkill. Select the files you want and add them to the import queue. They should start importing automatically. You should be able to see files appearing in logging bin progressively. Whilst the import is happening do not touch anything else in FCP, allow the whole import to finish before playing with them.

  • HDD, Streamlining FCS and general Mac Pro questions

Hello Everyone. I just got a Mac Pro and am setting it up.
I've got the 2.8 Quad Core, 1TB HDD and 3 Gigs of Ram, 5770 ATI
I work a lot with FCS, Maya and Adobe Products.
I didn't get the top of the line tower as I was hoping with the money I saved I can buy some add-ons. I want to get some RAM, a 2nd monitor and more hard drive space.
I work mainly with FCS doing editing. My video is mainly HD video in a 422 codec. I do a lot of compressing to H.264 as well as motion graphics and 3D. I also do a lot of transcoding as the raw footage I get is usually in a h.264 codec and comes from the Cannon 7D, T2i or the Sony EX1 and some Panasonics.
I can either by a 2TB internal 7200rpm WD or I've been looking at the SSDs. The SSD's look really tempting but are expensive compared to the HDDs. Would it be that much of a performance boost for my software if I use SSDs? I was thinking about buying a 40GB SSD and housing all my scratch files for FCS on it.
Currently (Until I get my tower set up) I've use a Macbook Pro. All of the FCS software is installed on the hdd.... all of the templates and extras I have are installed on an external GDrive. All the scratch files are stored on it as well.
If I remember right as a FCS user we are not supposed to run FCS from the same HDD which the scratch files are on, correct? Should I install a 2nd drive to save all my scratch files to and work with the media from there? I have some external HDD's but I think I would like the speed of a internal drive better.
If I buy a SSD should that be my boot up disc drive or should that be the drive which houses the media?
As a last question. What is a good way to back up my Mac Pro HDD? I have a 1TB external G Drive (FW800) a 500GB G Drive min (FW800) and an internal 1TB WD (SATA)?
Any help and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
    -Fraky

Forget SSD drives in a tower - waste of money.
Fill your bays with 3 1TB or 2TB drives. Why did you put your templates on a drive other than the system? The only time I'd consider that was if I was running a laptop with very limited space. One a tower, it makes no sense. Reinstall the FCS suite and locate all the extras on the same drive as the application.
Use the G-raid as a backup system drive or use one of the tower's 4 as a clone of the system. You should always have a working backup in case the main system goes south during an update or by adding incompatible software.
Use one of the other drives in the tower for the scratch and the remaining drive(s) to store projects.
The money you save by not purchasing SSD drives should be spent on RAM. While the current FCP is 32 bit and therefor can not use more than 4 GB (2.5GB for the program and 1.5GB for the frameworks), the extra RAM will allow you run multiple apps simultaneously without starving the programs.
This question - or some variation is asked regularly. Do a search and you should find all sorts of configurations explained.

  • Older MacBook Pro Questions

Im trying to sell my MacBook Pro so I have three questions.
    1. The battery died so I need to replace it, what is the best one/way to go about it? I have seen some products on eBay but they kinda worry me.
    2. What should I do before I sell it, as in clearing everything off the system?
    3. How much do you think I could get for it?
    MackBook Pro OS 10.5.8
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    250GB HDD
    Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
    VRAM 256MB

While checking on Craigslist you may be able to find some batteries for it.  This may work because you can test them out and have the person let you test them out before you give them money for it.  As long as things work, you should be okay.  As far as the price, you are going to want to look for an average and what you think you want to get out of it.  If you aren't totally sure, put a price that you would like with an idea of what you'll actually take and put it OBO and if someone doesn't want to pay the price you have they'll give you some offers if they want it.  From that point it is all a matter of what you actually want to get for it.  If you want to take what they are offering for it, then it's up to you and you can sell it at that price.  If not then you hold onto it longer so you can get what you want to get for it.

  • Basic Logic Pro Questions. I Am New To It

    Running OS 10.7.4
Hello....I am new to Logic Pro, graduating up from GB. I have few simple questions that I will ask on my next One to One, but I thought someone in Logic Pro Land can help for now.  Just be patient I am trying to understand concepts
    1. My One to One instructor here in NYC, down in the SoHo Store ( the best), helped me create a templete track, so I never have to listen to clicks or a metronome again ( I do VOs)....
    2. I have done some recordings on that template I saved it as COMPING, as that's what I want to learn at  my next one to one.... That track is my Logic Pro file in music.
    3. Based on that, all I want to do now is duplicate the template track. Is there a way to do that?
My own logic tells me...well if the track is saved under COMPING, all you got to do is launch Logic Pro.... the last track will come up (COMPING)..... so just delete the contents ( since it's saved) record what you want to record, and save it under a different name...for the sake of simplicity, let's say  I want to call it VO Track Number 2.....that track will appear in my folder under VO Track Number 2.....Is this correct?
    4. Barring that, is there another way of just duplcating the template track without having to name it something all the time, or perhaps name different duplicate tracks, Track 2, 3, 4, etc.?
    Recording questions
I recorded take one of a beer commercial. When I stoped the recording the head was right at the end where I stopped...when I went to record take 2, instead of just contuning, it back tracked a bit so the last few words on take 1 were recorded over.
    1. WHY?
    2. How do I prevent that from happening?
In GB, the recording just picked up where I left off, never back tracked...
    Anyanswers, greatly appreciated...

Next time, make a copy of your template before you record anything, in fact, save it as a template so a pristine copy will always be available under the "Templates" menu item. Then start the first project as VO-1 then VO-2...etc. Never start a project and save it the same name as your template.
Now you have to go in and remove the files from the arrange and Audio Bin or else they will stay associated with the project.
As for the recording, the last few words were not recorded over, they were just covered up.
The back tracking is due to the one bar count-in or you have some "preroll" set. Does it backtrack 1 bar?
I think the adjustment is under  "Settings/Recording".
I'll let others jump in and fill in the holes.

  • Window 7 pro question

I have a windows 7 pro machine that when you first boot up works as expected. After the machine runs a day or so the CMD, paint, or basically any of the items in the accessories will no longer load. If I right click and run as Admin they will sometimes open.
I then reboot and everything works as expected for a period of time. It seems to be a rights issue but I have had no luck in finding it.

  • Pro Res and Intensity Pro Question

    Hello All!,
I currently traded in my Sony FX-1 for a Sony V1-U. Very happy with everything on it so far! My question is simple. I am about to undertake a project that is some basic 2 cam sit down green screen interviews. I will be purchasing the intensity pro to capture Pro Res 422 via HDMI from the V1U. My biggest concern is that I will not be able to re-capture if needed! I have read and am pretty sure I can set my camera to HDV downconvert and my device control to DV and capture preset Pro Res 422 and capture through the intensity pro.. My only question is will this allow me to log my footage then do a batch capture. Highly critical that I am able to re-capture the footage as this client seems to come back every couple of months and make changes and I don't like to keep footage on my drives. I also think it would be beneficial to have pro-res to help me with keying the green screen as HDV is 420 and Pro res is 422. Any suggestions? thanks so much in advance!

    Matt Brodersen

    Hello,
I have done just that sort of operation. I am using a Canon HV20 with HDMI out to
Intensity Pro. My camera allows for down convert, which I do not use, but I do connect
a firewire cable which then gives full log and capture. I am not a pro so my daily
experience is for my own needs.
I hope that gives you some help, others here might be able to offer more.

  • Migrating FCE 2 on G4 powerbook to FCE 4 on Intel iMac/Mac Pro: Questions

I am interested in migrating from FCE 2 on G4 powerbook (1.6ghz) to FCE 4 on Intel iMac/Mac Pro (have to decide which). I have two main questions:
Will my FCE2 projects, sequences, scratch files etc. (currently on external hard drive) open ok on the Intel based FCE4 system?
How much of a performance boost can I reasonably expect after this migration (for example renderings)?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you both for replying. Just in case anyone else is wondering about the second part of my question (speed of FCE on 1.6GHz Powerbook G4 vs an Intel iMac), I tested this out this weekend at the local Apple store. I took a 12 second clip on different computers and timed how long it took to render a contrast/brightness change. Here are the results:
    7 sec. iMac
    6 sec. Mac Pro
    9 sec. Macbook Pro
30 sec. My old G4 Powerbook
So a 4-5 x bump! Impressive! Although its interesting that the mac pro isn't radically better than the imac.

  • Simple MB Pro Question

I already have a mb pro. I use to have a G5 that died. I have a nice 20 monitor, wireless usb keyboard, and external dvd drive that were used on it. Since I use my mb pro pretty much as a desktop I inquired how to hook up the monitor and keyboard. Everything works fine. My question is, will using it that way be better or worse for the overall life of the mb pro. Put simply
    which taxes the computer more?
    a) using the laptop by itself
    or
    b) using it with an external display, usb keyboard and mouse, and external dvd drive

Obviously, using your computer, with an external display, USB keyboard and mouse, and external DVD drive will use more power resources.
However, the important thing to remember is that your computer has been designed to perform all of these features.
Nothing lasts forever, especially computers. Enjoy them! A MacBook Pro is the most powerful notebook on the market today. It will not let you down.
By the way, I have been using all of the aforementioned peripherals with my MacBook Pro for over 1.5 years, and it has performed exceptionally well.

  • Looking on saving up for a mac pro questions

Ive been recently wanting to get a mac pro. But before i even atempt to start to save for this i have a few questions. Also before i start talking about this id like to mention that im not looking to buy the newer mac pro thats comming out later this year i wanna buy the one thats currently on the market. Anyways my questions are is it possible to upgrade mac pros? I know this is a obious question but what i really mean is not ram and the hard drives but i mean like GPU and processor to the like haswell chip and basicly things on that line. This is one of the main reasons for me wanting to buy a mac pro is because i have a iMac mid 2011 and i feel like i want something more customizable and that i can change at anytime. My next question is, is it worth it? I know its a big price point and everything but is it worth paying that much for it? Like i do a lot of heavy computing and i want something that i can have for a long time while being able to make it newer and better so it kinda evens out and i dont have to buy a whole new machine when mine becomes slow and sluggish. Thanks for the help and just as a little side note im 13 comming up on 14, but ive been saving my birthday money and pretty much any money i get since i was like 10 so im almost there (plus i dont get things like allowances or things like that).

is it possible to upgrade mac pros?... like GPU and processor to the like haswell chip
The current Mac Pro 65lb tower uses XEON processors. These are Server-class Processors that include Hardware assist for Error Correcting Code (ECC) Memory. This allows the use of very large Memories without fear of having Memory Errors pollute your computing environment or your data.
Replacing the XEON processor with a Haswell Processor is impossible, and you would be taking a major step backward by doing so. The slight advantage of the latest desktop processors may soon be erased by the next generation of XEON processors.
The Graphics cards are in a PCIe slot, and can literally be replaced, and you can support three displays on a card and in some cases add multiple cards (limited by their appetite for power).
The 65lb tower Macs MAY be replaced by the small black cylinder Mac, and if they are, your options will be refurbished or used machines. My opinion is that the Mac Pro 4,1 and later (2009 and later) are a better choice than any of the older models.
What has happened several times in the last decade or so is that new things we do with our computers have made the old ones obsolete much faster than predicted. For example, a Power Mac G3 is a nice machine -- but it will not play Web Videos.
