13 inch Air screen vs. 13 inch Pro screen

Hello. I'm looking at getting either the 13 inch new Air or the 13 inch Pro.
I'm wondering what the practical or observed difference between the screens is given that the air's resolution is better.
Has anyone observed the difference or have any opinion?
Thanks in advance!

Hi n,
The MBA display is going to be able to show more on the display because it's higher resolution. This also means things will be smaller (think text), but also sharper (that's what higher resolution is).

  • My MacBook pro screen is broken (awaiting part for repair) can I transfer keynotes pres onto iPad air? Without a home screen to navigate?

I am eagerly awaiting the correct parts to repair my MacBook pro screen (my husband dropped it). I have an iPad air but for some reason iCloud has only stored a very old copy of a keynotes presentation I need? Anyway to transfer with being able to see MacBook screen to guide me?

You misunderstand the memory management scheme and misinterpret the display you're seeing.
To start with, free memory is wasted memory. Once some disk contents have been brought in, it is wasteful to discard that data just to make the RAM that it occupied "free." Inactive memory is memory that is not currently used, can be given to an application that needs it without doing any disk I/O (or used as a destination for reading disk content) but which currently holds disk data that might be useful in the future. I.e., it's file content of some sort.
To get a better idea of how Mac OS X manages RAM and how to interpret the Activity Monitory dispaly, see this tech note: Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor.
Rosetta is indeed memory hungry, but it's an interim solution. With 2 GB of RAM installed, you can run a lot of applications with alacrity.
Lastly, your Safari, an Intel-native application, is currently using 2 GB. This is a known issue with Safari, though it seems to me that it has gotten better since 2.0.3 was released in 10.4.6. Still, it's a bit of a memory hog, to be sure. Now that Firefox, Camino and Seamonkey are all available in Universal (Intel native) forms, you have alternatives. Firefox seems a lot more parsimonious when it comes to RAM.

  • Deskptop is compressed to a 6 inch strip in the center of the screen

it is an Apple Studio Display 21" CRT
everything was fine with the display, came in one day and brought the computer out of sleep mode and the display was messed up. the deskptop is compressed to a 6 inch strip in the center of the screen with black bars on the left and right.

Mission Control? It isn't a little bar in the center of the screen but does display the running apps. You can access it via the Control+Up arrow key combination and there are preferences for it in System Preferences.

  • Macbook Air 13inch 2014 or Macbook Pro 13 inch 2013?

I need a new laptop for just high schooling(year 10) needs; I am not going to be running any graphic intensive programs. Mainly for internet use, notes and entertainment (I don't game much). I may need to edit some videos for my school; this shouldn't be too complex just putting together some clips and text. I understand that the new Air with 8gb ram, 256gb & probably 1.4ghz i5 should be enough to satisfy my needs but am not too sure and need reassurance. I am spending my own saved up money, so kinda a big deal to me.
Should I upgrade to i7 with 1.7 ghz processor?
    Will 256gb be enough?
Will an older macbook pro be a better option?
Should I wait for the new processor to come out?
    Thanks a lot in advance

    > I am a case manager and personal assistant so I use my computer alot for Word Office, note taking, internet, etc.
With that workload the MacBook Air is a better choice.  It is lighter and has a longer battery life.
    > Also is there a major difference between the the 13 inch Air with 128GB storage and the 256GB storage?
There are no differences except for the obvious: SSD size and price.
When you configure a MacBook Air you need to decide on how much RAM and SSD to purchase.  They cannot be changed once you order the Mac.
The 8 GB RAM option is only $100 so most people choose that option because 8 GB of RAM will help extend the usable lifetime of the machine and in case you find you need to run a large-memory application.
The $200, 128 or 256 GB SSD decision is a bit harder.  How much space do you use on your MacBook Pro now?  Over time, will those storage needs grow?  Do you plan to start using it for more media such as music, pictures or movies?  Will your storage need (now an in the future) fit comfortably in 128 GB or would that be too small or a tight fit?

  • Macbook Pro 15 inch Retna vs 13 inch air and Thunderbolt

Hello, I recently bought a Retna Macbook Pro 15 inch.  It has a great display and plenty of power.  I want to use this mainly for photography and as my only computer, not as a travel laptop etc.  The question is would you rather use the 15 inch MBP or a 13 inch 2013 air and use a Thunderbolt 27 inch display for my office at home.  Probably would be slightly more money for the second option but not that much more.  Probably less power in the air but I'm thinking it's enough for what I want to use it for.  How does the 27 inch display compare in quality to the RMBP?  I know the new airs have newer Haswell chips but I don't think the Retna's are that far behind except for battery life.

  • Macbook Pro Screen Quality

I upgraded my notebook from an ibook G4 to a Macbook Pro last August. I have been an apple user for more than 5 years now and love my macbook but recently I noticed a small, superbright pixel on the bottem left side of my screen. I just noticed this because I have had a solid black background and recently changed to a grey background which made it a lot more noticeable. I took it into the Genius Bar and the rep tried to tell me that I had done it myself. He said that it looks like a pressure mark. I told him in response that I never take my computer off my desk because I mainly use it for video editing and I have never seen anything like this before. It does not look like a pressure mark or a frozen or dead pixel but it looks like a white glowing eyelash. What do you guys think it is? I also have full apple care and I am surprised that his response was that it is physical damage. I have never dropped my computer or take it anywhere. It simpely sits on my desk like a desktop.

I have a similar problem on my new MBP 15" as well. I bought the notebook about three months ago and used the default wallpaper for a while. About three weeks ago, I changed my wallpaper to a lighter color and noticed a small, bright mark about halfway up a half inch from the right edge of the screen. I have taken this notebook out a couple times but baby it (I mean, it is a two THOUSAND dollar machine). I took it in once, before I noticed the mark for rattling due to a slightly loose hinge and warping edges. The genius told me to get a thick cloth to sit in between the screen and keyboard when the machine is closed. So, I'm sort of afraid to take it in for this (small) problem and get a similar answer - there's nothing we can do, or it's a pressure mark.
I have ramped up my Photoshop use lately and the mark is directly over the layers window, which is really annoying.
I think I will take it in tomorrow. If I get a different answer, I'll post back here. Sorry to hear you have a similar problem. It's annoying - especially after you first notice it.

  • MacBook Pro Screen Hinge Tightened?

Can anyone confirm that the new MacBook Pro's (purchased recently) have the screen hinge tightened?

I have a new MacBook Pro 15" produced in 2008, week 51. It has this same problem with the hinge. As long as the MacBook is sitting flat, the screen will stay put. However, if the base of the MacBook is tilted at 45 degrees or more the screen will close until it is a couple of inches from being fully closed.
Many people don't care about this and ask why anyone would want to do that. However, for me and others who like to use their MacBook while lying on a bed with knees drawn up, this presents a problem. I consider this lack of tension in the new MacBook Pro hinge to be a design flaw.
I've tried this with older 13" MacBooks and older 15" MacBook Pros (from early 2008) and none have this problem. Those models have stiff hinges that hold their position no matter the orientation of the MacBook.
Has anyone learned whether or not it is possible to adjust the tension in the hinge? I have heard of people having the hinges tighted in older MacBook Pros but I have not heard for the latest MacBook Pro models.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Macbook pro screen compatibility

    Hello,
Im trying to determine the correct replacement screen for my macbook pro. Its a 2012 A1286, 9,2  MD104LL/A 15.4 inch. There are plenty on the market for sale, but vendors seem to think the screens are all the same and a screen for the A1286 will fit all. My research has shown some have 30 pin sockets and others 40. The screen I've remove d is an LG, model number LP154WP4-TLA1. One vendor says his will fit but states its a 30 pin socket. Others give different order numbers but still A1286. And then theres the resolution. That the standard 1440x900 won't work on a  macbook that came with 1680x1050. Its all very confusing and i don't want to fork out good money for something that doesn't fit. Thanks for any input

I don't think if they were connected, you wouldn't be able to do anything with them. And the remote application works for the iPod touch. It only works with itunes, but it might be helpful.

  • HT5219 Can some one please help me clarify if I can set up two thunderbolts as split screens to my Macbook pro 15" (October 2011)? Thanks

There is a lot of different answers to this on the internet but all different. The Luxembourg Apple retailers are not able to give a real answer either.
Please don't answer too technical as I am no IT expert.

  • Can a latest Mac Book Air get connected to a display screen?

Presentation at meetings require Mac Book Air get connected to a display screen.
A Mac Book Pro is possible to get connected to a display screen using a A1307 adopter.
Does any one know if the latest Mac Book Air connectable to a display screen using A1307 adopter or anyother means? I would be oblighed to know the possibility prior to buy one.
    Regards

The Thunderbolt port doubles as a Mini-DisplayPort. Thunderbolt is not the same as Firewire. However, Apple does sell a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor so you can connect Firewire devices to the computer. Thunderbolt devices may be daisy-chained, but a display monitor must be the last device on that chain.
According to what I found the A1307 adaptor is Mini-DisplayPort to VGA. It will not connect to a Firewire port.

  • Greenish sparkling and tinge on my MacBook Pro screen?

    Hey guys,
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been having a problem with the entire screen of my MacBook Pro internittently being covered with a greenish tinge. It doesn't happen all the time, and sometimes goes away depending on what I'm working on. Sometimes it'll be a few pixels of green here and there, followed by whole chunks of green over the screen, followed by a complete greening over the entire screen. It does not affect the performance of the computer at all, but it's really annoying and often won't go away unless I restart. What could be causing this? I have a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.2. Could it be an overheated video card? Corrupted driver? Can anyone recommend any fixes?
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

  • What looks like a bruise on my MacBook Pro screen?

I noticed a small bruise-like marking on the screen of my MacBook Pro a few months ago. It's only visible when the screen is black but lit, so if my computer is asleep or turned off, you can't see it. It never posed an issue so I just ignored it, especially because you very seldom saw it (a laptop's screen is very rarely black, unless you're watching a movie/video). I just shrugged it off.
As of lately, I've noticed that it's been spreading. I've uploaded a picture of it below so you guys can see it.
I do not have AppleCare anymore as it is a mid-2010 MacBook Pro, and I'm almost definite nothing has ever happened to it physically. I have a hard-shell case on it 24/7, and if isn't in my room, it's in my bookbag, traveling with me to/from/and at school. I take very good care of my laptop and make sure that I am gentle with it. It has never really been exposed to extreme weather; only typical North Eastern weather.. But it has never been directly exposed to (used, opened in) weather outside of the 40-80 degree window.
The nearest Apple Store is 2 hours away from me as I am temporarily in the middle of the country and won't be back home until June.
I was just wondering if this was:
    A) something to worry about?
    B) something that can be fixed/could have been prevented?
    C) if I were to bring it to an Apple store, will they still help me in the event that it is the computer's malfunction although my AppleCare has run out?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just a bit worried since it's spreading and I don't have the $1300(+) to get a new one right now, especially since I'm in the middle of my semester. Thanks to any and all help!
