13 Inch and 15 Inch Sata Connection downgraded

I was thinking about maybe upgrading my 2.4 SR MBP (with Express card and 3.0 Sata) to one of the new unibody 15 inch models. I went to my local Apple store and checked out every 15 inch they had and all of them have been downgraded to Sata 1.5 connection speed. All of the 13 inch models have also been downgraded. What is going on?? I have already sent Apple feedback but this is just beyond being cheap..... to save a few pennies is going to cost Apple a lot of sales. I, for one, am not buying any of the new MBPs.

I could be dating myself (okay... no "faster is better" jokes on this part)... I think it was in the 486 days (or maybe 386... I forget). PCs used to have a "Turbo" switch. You could run them at full speed ("Turbo") or reduced speed. The idea being that the hardware was speeding up much faster than the software was evolving. The timing on some programs couldn't compensate for the faster CPU. An example might be a game where a character moves across the screen at a given rate... but on the faster machine it would fly across faster than you could even see it... so you would switch the "Turbo" off.

stevie, a third party app called airparrot will give you the pretty much the same as mirroring and forks on Macs too old to mirror.

  • Is it available to replace DVD driver in MacBook Pro with SSD 512GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb?

I'v external DVD driver and I'd like to replace DVD driver with in MacBook Pro with SSD 512GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb.  Is it available? All your opinions are welcome.

Here is a post from another thread on this problem.
So here's the deal, don't expect SATA III devices to work on the optical port.  I just went thru this on both my 2009 and 2012 13" MBP's.   The 2009 is SATA II (3Gps) and the 2012 is SATA III (6Gps).   A SATA III SSD (OWC 6G) will only connect at 1.5 Gps on the 2009.  On the 2012, it actually connects at 6 Gps, but every drive I tried crashed (dropped drives, file errors, kernel panics), including a Samsung 830 and  Seagate Momentus XT 750.  Out of desperation, I stuck the (slow 500 Gb) Apple HD in, it connects at 3 Gps and works like a champ.   Check your System Info on SATA info.   If you have a 2009, don't waste your $$$ on high end SSDs or drives.  If you have newer, BEWARE, you're likely to have issues with high end SATA III devices.    On the bright side both Samsung and OCZ V4 work great on the main drive (450 MB/s read) and boots in 10 seconds!!      The optical drive SATA port is a major issue for everyone ( like me ) who buys MBPs because they can trip them out, this is a real nagging issue/obstacle.   This is a firmware issue that needs to be addressed by Apple. I'm hoping for a firmware update and that Apple isn't doing this intentionally.

Will a Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE500BW work in a late 2013 Mac Mini

Would you happen to know if it will work in a mid 2007 iMac running Mavericks with 4GB of RAM? I need this to last this year and next year I am buying my MacPro, anyway, I dont want to put all the work in to installing it if its not going to work, thanks for any help!

  • I ordered Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB 7.2K 2.5-inch SATA HD...

I just ordered a new Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB 7.2K 2.5-inch SATA Hard Drive ST9320421ASG - Brand New OEM. What I want to make sure (in case I need to cancel the order) is that this will be the same as the one that came with my Unibody Macbook Pro (it has the same model number...but does Apple customize these in any way?)
    Thanks!

Yeah, mine is enabled too. Not that I want to do this...but do we have the option of disabling the motion sensor? If so, I'd like to know how .
PS: I wound up ordering the Seagate ST9320423ASG SATA Hard Drive because the other one was an older model. Pretty much the same thing though.

  • Msi k9n with 2 sata disc in strip and a plextor sata burner connected

can all msi k9n motherboards run with 2 sata disc in astripe and a plextor sata dvd burner connected to the sata connectors ?

    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=729

A onboard satacontroller until now controls a pair of sata ports on NF4 and older.
So with 4 ports native , there is two controllers aka' you enable raid pr. controller as in sata1/2 , sata 3/4 .
NF570 looks different from NF4 (atleast in the MSI K9N bios) in that way that you can include pr port eg.
    SATA0 Primary =Raid Enabled - SATA0 Secondary=Raid Enabled - SATA1 Primary=Raid Enabled - SATA1 Secondary=Disabled , and so on .
Why must you absolutely have sata burner , it's nothing gained over a IDE type in the matter of speed .
Even 16X DVD doesn't utilize 33MB/s that Ultra DMA2 is currently at for IDE burners .
16X DVD utilize 21MB/s , 54X CDR utilize 8MB/s , so no one needs burners at a sata controller.
But anyway , a silicon Image or a Promise PCI controller board should work  .

  • P67A-GD65 new system bios setting recommendations and sata connections

    Hey all,
My old dual core HTPC (after many hours of use) finally gave up the ghost and moved on to the great PC grave yard . I have ordered all the new upgrade parts from Newegg and am looking for recommendations on what bios settings and setup procedures I should use on the initial bootup and Windows load. I'm not looking to overclock I just want a fast stable system for video decoding and playback. It's my understanding from the manual that SATA 1-2 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and 7-8 are controlled by the Marvell chip but I am unsure of SATA 3-6. Can SATA 3-6 do raid 0? I want to use the Crucial SSD as my primary boot drive and the 2 WD drives on raid 0 as my secondary drive. SATA connection advice (which SATA ports) and Raid Bios setting would be helpful. Should I install the raid 0 drives after I have Windows 7 loaded on the SSD? Any other setup advice is appreciated.
    Here is my setup.
    Windows 7 64bit
    Bach HTPC case
    Ultra LSP 750Pro PSU
    Intel i5-2500 3.3G CPU
    MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard
Sapphire HD5570 1G RT Video Card
Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 SSD 6.0Gb/s SATAIII (Primary boot drive)
    2 WD3200KS Hard Drives SATA 3.0Gb/s (Raid 0)
    Lite-on 12X Blu-Ray Burner SATA
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Two questions answered. SATA 3-6 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and do support Raid 0 but I still wonder if I should wait to install the drives until Windows has finished it's install.
SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
    - Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 PCH
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128
    - SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 mode by Intel P67 PCH
    - SATA7~8 ports support RAID 0/1 mode by Marvell SE9128

  • 13" MBP SATA interface downgraded to 1.5 Gigabit

I just checked my system information and the sata connection is reporting 1.5 Gigabit as the speed. I discovered this when I benchmarked my Vertex 60GB SSD and noticed that the speeds were a lot slower than before (I used to have a 15" umbp). Did apple downgrade the sata connection? This is a huge disappointment and very surprising.

    Well,
I also just got a 13" and installed an Intel X25 drive (160gb) and then stumbled upon this thread. I've called Apple Care to get more information. Waiting to hear back.
In the meantime ran xbench on my machine so I could compare it to other machines and got a score of 198.91. The results for a base 2.53GHz, 4gb RAM, 250gb 5400 drive configuration was also out there on the xbench site and the results for that machine were 137.17. When looking at the read write speeds, with the SSD don't lose anything but on the read side the differences are very dramatic.
This does not answer the question about the limitations of SATA I vs SATA II but at least shows a dramatic increase in the score with the swap in hard drive.
I will update if I get more tech support info

  • ESATA and "housed" internal drive connection to MACBook

    Hello,
I have a MAC Pro and old style white MACBook. As a fallback in case my MAC Pro gives up the ghost once we have moved out of Apple Support territory (could be 4 years), it has been suggested that I might take an external Drive housing with me so I would be able to access my data in the event the unthinkable would happen to my 3 year old MAC Pro with four hard drives... Would I be able to use an eSATA connection (don't know what it is but guessing its a plug in type adapter for the SATA connection... I think that means it will not connect to the MACBook. Is that right?
What is the best connection I could make to the MACBook noting it does have a FW400 port? Any recommendations on a housing or alternative idea would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks, Floor
PS. I use the Pro for FCE HD video editing and Aperture in case that influences any response(s).

If the hard drive you linked to is the drive you have, you can get an external SATA drive enclosure. Depending on your preference, you can get one that connects via USB, Firewire, or both (the choice is yours). You just need to make sure that you get an SATA enclosure. Here are some examples:

  • Linksys WRT54GL and Airport Extreme dropping connections

In looking through these forums, I realize that people have had problems with their Linksys WRT54G routers and their Airport cards. There seem to be a lot of suggested fixes, but no definitive answer as to what's wrong. I don't know either, and after changing channels, changing Linksys firmware, changing encryption, creating background pings, and all of the recommended solutions, the problem persists. I wanted to document it here in the hopes that someone can figure out what's wrong. Here's a tail of /var/log/system.log during a period when the Mac was having trouble connecting to the Linksys. I don't believe that this is due to Wifi interference or the Linksys, since other machines in the house (a Mac running 10.4.8, but using a Cisco card), for example, don't have these same problems at this time.
Basically, this kind of behavior repeats for a half-hour or so, then settles down for "a while," where a while could be an hour or could be 6 hours, and then it repeats. I have no idea what the problem is, and I suspect it's a problem with the Airport Extreme, rather than with the Linksys. Ideas?

What I am saying is that I have wireless connections to the Ae and I have wired connections to it as well. Both are getting dhcp from the Ae. Both are getting dropped. In the log I am getting these entries, about once per hour...
    "Jan 06 10:26:00 Severity:5 Connection accepted from ::ffff:10.0.97.190/57902.
    Jan 06 10:26:01 Severity:5 unloading current configuration.
Jan 06 10:26:20 Severity:5 (WAN) link state is Up.
    Jan 06 10:26:20 Severity:5 Deauthenticating with station ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff (reserved 3).
Jan 06 10:26:20 Severity:5 Rotated TKIP group key."
The 10.0.97.190 is the recently-added OS X Server. Not sure what the port is. But it seems to be doing something untoward.
    Anyone?
    Anyone?
    Bueller??
