13" Late 2009 White Macbook Kernel Panic
I inherited a late 09 white Macbook from a family member last year and have just started having problems. I need it to hold out until February when I can finally buy a MB Air or MB Pro (still deciding...) and wondered if anyone could give me an idea of what was causing the kernel panics. They are pretty infrequent at this time, but when they occur, it takes a good 5-10 restarts before I can finally get the computer back up and running. Started out with 8 gb of RAM, took one RAM stick out and the computer didn't panic for another week...now we're back to square one with the 4 gb of RAM in the computer.
All I need to know is if any of you fine folks could tell me what the hardware issue is so I can find out if it's a quick fix that would last long enough to get a new MB in February. I appreciate the wisdom of those of you who know how to decipher this--thanks in advance!

Hi
It seems that there is a problem with some component in the motherboard, this happened with me too with my Macbook pro retina display. Take it to a genius bar, and tell them of this problem. They will replace the motherboard or give you a new laptop if its under warranty.

Need help with Late 2009 imac- had HD and video card replaced under Apple Care last year. Upgraded to Mavericks and it froze up while on Yahoo looking at a slide show. Screen pixelated with checkerboard patterns and then eventually locks-up. Only way to get it to work now is in SAFE MODE.
Tried memory test, Resetting SMC, AHT, Zapping NVRAM, PRAM, only errors I can see are some permissions

New kernel panic is now as follows-
What's interesting is I had the video card replaced at Apple in the last year- it's a ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
But I see that the log has it listed as
"com.apple.ATIRadeonX2000(8.2.4)"
wondering if that my be the problem as the issue is the screen is fragmented and flickers- checkerboard before it crashes when not in safe mode..

Late 2009 13" Macbook Pro Randomly Restarting Often.
Hi. I have a late 2009 13" Macbook Pro, 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of memory. I'm currently running Mavericks, although the issue about which I'm posting occurred in Mountain Lion too. My computer will randomly restart, usually while I'm browsing the Internet, and sometimes even while it's just idle with the screensaver on. The screen goes black and then the "You need to restart your computer" screen comes up. This is a Kernel Panic, right? I always report the issues when my computer restarts and tells me to, so I've copied and pasted the most recent report below. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks!

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 that has Windows 7 on a Bootcamp partition which has never given me any trouble. I have some very valuable projects on the parition and want to make sure a Lion install won't do any harm to it.
I've backed up everything on the Bootcamp partition but am very hesitant to do anything to screw it up.
Are there any extra steps I can take to minimize any chances of doing any damage to the Bootcamp partition while I do a Lion install?
Thanks in advance.
Use Windows tools to make a system image before the install, if disaster occurs you can use it to restore .... -
Hi, I have been trying to update many things on my 2009 white macbook. Everytime I do it tells me I need a different version. I don't know what versions I need or even where to begin or if I need to purchase new hardware? It says my version is 10.5.8. I have tried downloading 10.6 but not sure what to do. Everyone else seems to be updating there's and mine is way behind however it still tells me I have no software updates...Any suggestions?
You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture. -
I have a late 2008 white macbook. I have a mini dvi to hdmi adapter, and a hdmi cord. My cannot get my MB to detect an external monitor. Nothing happens when plugged in. Also, my display settings does not have an option for mirroring or arrangment tab
Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

No "Low Battery" warning on new (November 07) MacBook - Kernel Panic
Hello,
I'm not sure is this is the right forum for this, but since the problem occurs during a specific battery state, I'm going to post it here.
I just got one of the new November 07 MacBooks. The machine is great, and screams with the pre-installed Leopard.
First thing I did was plug it in to charge as I started configuring software. Once it was fully charged, I pulled the plug, and began using it on battery. My plan was to calibrate the battery, by running it all the way until it forced a sleep, then shutting down and plugging it in again, as Apple recommends.
Problem is, I never got the "Low Battery" warning, or even the sleep warning. At around 10 minutes of power left, I simply got a kernel panic. A few seconds later, the laptop just switched off.
I plugged in again for a few minutes, then ran it down again to see if I could reproduce the error, and I did get the low battery warning.
The next time the battery ran down, it gave me the kernel panic.
Is this happening to anyone else? Is it a new MacBook problem, or a leopard power management problem? I'm having no other issues at all with the MacBook or Leopard. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!I'm a little hesitant to force a firmware update on a MacBook it wasn't meant for. These are brand new models, and I would think Apple didn't ship them with the known faulty batteries or bad firmware.
The frustrating thing is I have no way of knowing who the culprit is. Is it the brand new OS that I'm sure has a fair share of bugs? Is it the new hardware having a power control issue? Or is it a combination of Leopard and the new hardware? I was hoping to find some users who had the same problem so I could narrow it down. Battery drains out, kernel panic, then the machine shuts off after a few seconds. Funny thing is, the indicator says I have like 10 minutes or so left, but it appears that the battery must be completely dead, since it forces a panic and the machine just dies. So it might be a calibration error. The Mac thinks it has some juice, but in reality it's just about dead.
I made an appointment for the Apple store tomorrow, so we'll see what they have to say. It's otherwise running beautifully, thankfully. -
Macbook kernel panic during boot + other kernel panics! HELP PLEASE
Hello,
I have a w macbook 2,0 ghz duo (2006 edition), 2gb ram, original HD. Operating system: Tiger OsX (updated).
A couple of weeks ago my mb started to display (during a normal session and even after a stand-by) a big message on screen "Please hold down the power button to restart your computer" etc = kernel panic message.
I took a look at the panic.log file and it said:
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: firefox-bin
So I thought there was something with firefox and, to resolve definetely this problems, I checked my hd using utility then I tried to install Leopard using the DVD(updated again). After installing Leopard I did not receive kernel panic errors related to firefox-bin thread but now I still have kernel panic problems.
These are the error messages:
1. When I boot up the mb, it shows the "restart" message or it FREEZES (doesn't boot up)
2. The log says that the panic error is related to "ACPI" and Io.apple.firewirefamily (what is it???)
3. The panic.log file just says:

MacBook Kernel Panics All The Time
My fife month-old MacBook seems to have a Kernel Panic everytime I try to move it (lift it up, put it down etc). Sometimes my MacBook even panics out of the blue, standing still on a smooth surface. I ran the hardware-tests, but they couldn't find any problems.
My panic.log-file follows:

My white MacBook (not C2D) has a 2GHz prossessor ad 1 GB RAM (All bought and installed by Apple).
I may have misplaced my topic, but I didn't know quite where to post it.
Thanks!I'm so fed up with these Kernel Panics and Random
shutdowns! It seems like they occour more frequently
now than ever before.
So, you've done all the steps the other people have pointed you to? You've re-loaded the OS? You've swapped out RAM to see if that fixes things?
I don't know what to do next. Call Apple and
complain? I really don't have a clue. Any
suggestions?
I think it's probably time to take it to Apple. Either call them and explain what you've done to narrow down the problem or take it in to a repair center.
From your symptom (that it seems to panic when you move it) I'd wonder if there's a cold solder joint or broken trace on one of the boards, and when you move it a little bit, there's an electrical interruption or short that causes your panics.
I've never looked inside a MacBook, so I don't know if it's possible with that particular model, but I've seen similar kinds of things with other laptops.
charlie -
Early 2009 Mac Pro - Kernel Panic help please
I'd really appreciate some help troubleshooting KPs, please.
My machine is a Mac Pro early 2009, 16GB Ram, 2x30" Apple Cinema Displays, secondary display connected via mini display port adaptor.
I'm getting a KP every couple of days and the frequency seems to be increasing.
I think the Panic logs point to internet access as being the source of the problem. In the log that I've posted, an app called Radium is mentioned in the "
BSD process name corresponding to current thread" - Radium is an internet radio app and I was getting KPs before I installed it.
Previous panic logs have mentioned Chrome in place of Radium.
In the "unloaded kexts" com.apple.driver.AppleIntel8254XEthernet makes me this this is possibly internet related.
I have tried using ethernet port B instead of A in case port A was faulty, but the panics still happen. Maybe I could try connecting over wifi next.
I've booted into single user mode (64 bit kernel by holding the 6 and 4 keys during boot) and ran memtest overnight for 5 loops - all Ram checks out fine.
I've zapped PRAM and checked and reseated all RAM, HDs and GPU. Carefully cleaned all internal components of dust.
Any help would be very gratefully received, thanks in advance for any ideas.

There is nothing obviously wrong with the stuff you posted so far, and the two seem to have happened in about the smae place. That increase the risk you have some damage to Mac OS X, and may benefit from a re-Install. -

Uninstall McAfee first and see how that goes, you really don't need always on anti-virus, a free ClamXav run as you need it anti-virus is less conflciting, plus some hardening techniques.
Harden your Mac against malware attacks
Update the other software and run like that, or remove the problem ones with their uninstaller.
If you ever get a Gray screen and it won't log in, then reboot holding the Shift Key down for Safe mode to disable the third party at boot kernel extension files.

MacBook Kernel Panics Frequently
Hi Everyone,
I am new to Apple Support Communities. In fact this is my 1st attempt.
In the past 3 weeks I have had numerous Kernel panics. I have done several CLEAN installs of SL along with individual installations of Mac approved apps.
I have done several tests using TechTool Pro 6 and it tells me that everything is good and proper. My Hardware and RAM are ALL Approved gear.
I personally suspect a "Software" issue. The last Kernel Panic occured whilst I was Browsing the net using "Safari".
When I rebooted again in "SafebootMode", a NEW message appeared saying my Time machine was currupt. Since that message, I have made another TM backup on a Different External HD.
I have browsed through the Kernal Panic report but I am unable pinpont the offending application. Attached please find my Kernal Panic Report.
Can some one, Please Please help.

ASP_TCP CancelOneRequest: cancelling slot 23 error 89 reqID 22208 flags 0x9 afpCmd 0xF0000002 so 0xec3051cHi WZZZ,
Thanks for the response. Much Appreciated.
I am using 2x4GB OWC Apple Certified RAM on this MacBook. See below for details;
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.32f8
When I run TechTool Pro 6.0.4, it tells me all is sweet and fine.
To be doubly sure I replaced the RAM with identical OWC 2x4GB. The KP's still continued. Is there any other
test I could do to check out my RAM Sticks.
At this stage, I have NOT tried unloading any kext files. As for the DisplayLinkDriver, this was an extra monitor
screen that I only installed a few days ago. [Extra monitor to view Console & Activity Monitor reports etc]
The KP's have been "On Going" for nearly three weeks now.
Even the local Apple store couldn't tell me what was causing the KP's.
All I can say is that my Macbook works like a dream for a couple days then it goes crazy by having 10 ~ 15
KP's a day without much indication.
After the last KP approx 12 hours ago, it complained saying my TM was currupt and wanted me back it up
immediately.
This is what I found in the console reports:
Hfs: Run Time Corruption detected on TM Backup. "fsck will be forced on next mount".
On the next reboot the Macbook could not even find the TM Back Drive.
Since then, I have backed it up using a NEW External HD.
Any other suggestions will be most appreciated.
Thanks -
I've had three kernel panics, and all 3 occurred when debugging in Xcode, I was stopped at a break point, and I was listening to music (local mp3s) via iTunes. It might be worth noting that I am using 2 displays: a Thunderbolt Display as my main display and an Apple Cinema Display as my secondary.
Here is the log of the most recent panic. All of them share the exact same stack trace.

com.apple.kec.pthread 1I have also experienced this kernel panic as well. Both times, I could see coreaudiod in the diagnostic report. After the first time, I tried muting my audio, but while debugging in Xcode 6.1.1, it just happened to me again a couple minutes ago.
Obviously, avoiding the use of the iOS Simulator is *not* a viable workaround.
My Mac is actually a 2007 MacBook Pro (3,1 Model). I thought maybe it was just my machine getting old and crapping out, but since yours is a recent 2013 model, it looks like there's some kind of issue related to Xcode and coreaudiod. BTW, I am also running SpriteBuilder at the same time, but I think the two times I've experienced the panic, I was actively debugging something via Xcode.
So far, 2 kernel panics in 2 consecutive days.. Not happy. -
I bought my Macbook in June, and it worked fantastic unti last week when the dreaded Kernel Panics started. They occur at least once a day.....sometimes up to 4.
Can anybody interperet this Kernel Panice Log:

Macbook 2.0 GhZ Mac OS X (10.4.7)Thanks for the RAM suggestion. I didn't try swapping it but did run Memtest (100 memory loops) on all of the RAM and no problems were detected....
However, I think I may have solved the problem. I use a Logitech mouse , and the driver I had been using was for the PowerPC chip. The other day Logitech released a new driver for Universal. I installed it yesterday and have been running since with no kernel panics.
Hopefully this has solved the problem.
Black 2 GHz Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.7) -
Hi Everyone!
Over the last couple of days my MacBook performs a kernel panic and forces me to restart. I have to restart a couple of times before it works properly again, but sometimes the screen stays black when I turn it on, and it just sits there until I restart it again using the power button.
I've taken dump of the error message in panic.log and it appears that it is the AirPort card causing problems. Can someone confirm this, and suggest what I need to do to resolve this issue as it is becoming quite annoying now. I bought my MacBook back in October last year, so it should still be under warranty.
Heres the relevent content of the panic.log:

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Feb 22 20:55:00 PST 2007; root:xnu-792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386Hey boys and girls...
Well, after reading a few of the posts, I can say this:
1. I have the N activated from the factory- This is a week old macbook. (Utilities/Network Utility, choose en1 from the dropdown - if you see (802.11 a/b/g/n), you have n installed)
2. The ONLY airport driver loaded into the kernel is atheros, meaning it MUST be the active driver. See kextstat -l | grep -i airport
3. I have been monkeying with replacing extensions from previous versions. So far, I have not had a wifi dropout or kernel panic... BUT IT'S EARLY IN MY TESTING.
Here's how I replaced the extension. This is taken directly from a macfixit tutorial. NOTE: 10.4.9 still produced a wifi lockup. I have now used the airport kext (I chose all I found) in 10.4.8 and SO FAR (only tonight) I have not had a dropout. IT COULD STILL HAPPEN THOUGH, SO YMMV:
Reverting to older AirPort kernel extensions [Useful for: slow wireless throughput, router not recognized]
f you are experiencing dire AirPort connectivity issues after a major system update (incremental Mac OS X update or Security Update), and have exhausted all other workarounds, you can try reverting to older version of the AirPort kernel extension via the following steps: [WARNING: This workaround is risky because you should not generally mix and match kernel extensions after updates. You will also lose any AirPort-related refinements brought about by the most recent update and new conflicts can ensue. Still, in a bind, it can restore wireless connectivity where other workarounds fail.]
1. Download the Mac OS X combo updater directly precedent to your current system version if you applied an incremental Mac OS X update (e.g. Mac OS X 10.4.9), or your current system version if you applied a security update from Apple's download page.
2. Download and install the shareware application Pacifist
3. Drag the Mac OS X combo installer package (e.g. MacOSXUpd10.4.9Intel.pkg) onto the Pacifist application icon.
4. Click the triangle next to System to expand it
5. Click the triangle next to Library to expand it
6. Click the triangle next to Extensions to expand it
7. Scroll down and find the file AppleAirPort.kext. Drag it to your Desktop or another location (you will have to enter your administrator password)
8. On your Mac OS X startup drive, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and locate a similarly named file (AppleAirPort.kext). Move it to another location for safe keeping.
9. Now drag the file from step 7 (the one that you retrieved from the Mac OS X combo install package) into the /System/Library/Extensions directory on your startup, in effect replacing the newer file (installed by the AirPort updater) with and older copy -- you will have to enter an administrator password.
10. Restart your Mac
