13" Macbook + DVI-HDMI + HDTV Problem

Hello,
I recently bought myself a 13" macbook, which I'm now in love with!
so here's my question, I have a Mini Dvi to Dvi Adaptor hooked up to my macbook and a DVI to HDMI cable running to my HDTV (32") into the HDMI Input (on the tv.) When I goto plug it in ( either tv first or macbook first) My macbook screen turns to this hazy blue screen (looks just like the boot up screen) and Then my macbook freezes up. I've tried shutting down my macbook plugging everything in and then booting up, but still no luck it does the same thing. I just got my mac on sunday straight from apple.com .
any suggestion? I've heard this is a typical issue.

no luck, I made sure the cables were super tight and plugged in properly. my tv says "no signal"
and my macbook freezes up with the blue screen.
This time I tried it two different ways, I shut down my mac book and made sure my tv was off. Turned on my tv switched it to HDMI IMPUT 1 and tightly plugged in my cables. then turned on my macbook.
After seeing the booting screen ( little apple picture and music) a light blue screen (that normally appears durning booting) appears and it freezes on that blue screen. then I tried leaving my mac book on and tv turned on to HDMI Input one and plugging it in, this time I'm able to see my desktop ( on my mac book, tv still says no signal) and I get this fogginess that appears over the screen. I can move my mouse but everything else will not respond.
any help or suggestion would be super!

Mac Mini DVi on HDTV - PROBLEM

hey all,
i am using a mac mini (1.42 G4 80gb 512 combo) on a sharp HDTV using a DVI to HDMI cable.
everything works but i have a problem that it is slightly blurred, this makes text (especially small fonts) very difficult to read.
is there any way to alter this or at least improve the visual quality?

i am using 1280 x 720 resolution, the other resolutions have the same blurred problem but it makes all the icons and stuff bigger.
The tv / monitor is 26 inches.

Macbook Pro to HDtv problems

Hi,
I have a macbook pro from 2009 (1st aluminum body). I recently got a samsung HDTV, and when I hook it up to my macbook, sometimes certain programs come up in a distored, unviewable form. It is hard to describe, it looks sort of like a photo negative, with random rainbow colours throughout.
if I close the program (eg firefox) and reopen it on the hdtv with a wireless mouse, then it always works. But if I have the program open first, and then plug it in and try and full screen netflix, it gets all messed up.
I did cheap out on my hdmi adapter, and my hdmi cable. I'm not sure if either of these would have anything to do with it. Help!

I've done the same thing, with no problems - the tv audio input selector setting needed adjusting, but otherwise fine. Some tv's are less than obvious how to have the audio input independent of the hdmi.

MacBook Pro - HDMI Connection Problems

I have connection my MacBook Pro to my TV with a HDMI cable. My docking station is now on my TV which isnt a problem but is when I unplug the HDMI cable to find that my docking station is not at the bottom of my laptop screen where it usually is. I've had a look around system preferences but cant seem to find anything. Anyone got any ideas??

I'm thinking that maybe there's something wrong with the tv. I remember when first trying to connect the DVI cable that there were some sparkles around the DVI. Maybe something got burned inside the tv.

Macbook air hdmi connection problem

I cannot get my macbook air to connect to my tv via an hdmi cable. I suspected my cable until my neighbor had the same issue. Have others experienced this and is there a solution?

I have had this same problem. Has the wifi worked before? What I did was I turned my wifi off, then I restarted my computer, then I turned my wifi back on. If that doesnt work, leave the wifi off, and shut it down for a while. Hope I could help!

T60 w/ Docking Station DVI - HDMI 1080p problems.

Im currently running vista 32bit on a T60 with a docking station trying to externally display to a 1920x1080 LCD via the DVI port on the back of the docking station to the HDMI port on the LCD (Samsung N series 40").
The problem im having is when i set the resolution to 1920x1080 the output on the LCD is not crisp and there is a 1" black border around the whole screen. If you lower the resolution right down to 1024x 7xx (cant remember exactly what it is) it fills the screen and is crisp., but everything is just mega big..
I have the latest video drivers off the lenovo support page.
I also have a T43 running vista and it displays 1920x1080 via the DVI port on the docking station fine.
Has anybody seen this before and have any ideas on how to fix it?

Recent Lion update -- HDMI/HDTV problems

After the recent Lion update, my MBP can't communicate with my HDTV, which was possible before updating OS.
There's just a black screen on my tv, with a small text: "Outside area".
I've tried changing everything on the tv and finding the HDTV on my MBP, but it won't work.
I haven't tried SwitchResx, since it worked without this program before.
I've searched the web alot, and it seems Macs generally have a problem with HDMI.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like your home folder permissions are out of whack.
Open Terminal and paste this command:
sudo chown -R `id -un` ~
Put in your password and press 'return'.
Wait till it finishes, it might take a while. Restart the computer and test.

Mini-DVI- Svideo- HDTV problem

I have a mid-2007 iMac and I'm attempting to connect it to my 2005 model Panasonic plasma TV to mirror my desktop. I'm using a Dynex mini-DVI to s-video adapter and have have not yet been able to view my Mac desktop on my tv. I've tried various methods to get my Mac to recognize the tv, powering both off, one on one off, etc. but no luck so far. I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks.

I only need to temporarily connect my Mac to the TV for a fantasy football draft this Friday. I decided to go with s-video because the 15-20 foot cable I needed was cheaper than HDMI. I'm contemplating overnighting an Apple branded adapter instead. Would that be better than the off brand? Also, I've tried connecting the s-video directly to the tv and to my home theater receiver that feeds video to my tv and neither setup is detected.

DVI-HDMI Adapter for hooking up a HDTV...Few problems...

I have a spare 32" Sharp HDTV with HDMI, so I placed this next to my Mac Pro and used a DVI-HDMI adapter. Here are the problems:
With my standard GeForce 7300 GT you cannot use both connectors, as they are too close together - so I could not even test to see whether both DVI outputs can work at the same time. So I have to disconnect my 23" cinema display. Now, the Macpro recognizes the TV - in the display preferences - but the resolutions are not good - the only one that works is 1280x720. Other resolutions listed, ie, 1344x756 and higher are listed as interlaced and all cause flicker. This means I do not see the OSX top menus.
I wish to be able to show clients samples of edited movie clips on a HDTV both in FCP and standalone QT. I doubt that appleTV is the answer, as this only works in iTunes - plus, my Mac is next to my TV anyway.
Any thoughts on making this work better? I am trying to not have to buy a new video card. Maybe the Black Magic Intensity card for HDMI output is the answer?

I can live with the lower resolution - the TV is actually 1366 x 768, but the most annoying is not being able to use both DVD connectors on the card at the same time - they are too close together, how stupid is that?
Ideally, I would like to see both the cinema display and the HDTV running at the same time - or least not having to manually switch over the adapter at the rear.
I see no way around this, unless I change video cards but for $250 I can get the Black Magic HDMI card which outputs DV via HDMI to HDMI.

MacBook to HDTV via Mini-DVI to DVI-HDMI.

Okay guys, here's specific question about color calibration / resolution with DVI-HDMI output from my MacBook (or maybe any machine) to my LNT-4665. I've been trolling the forums for an answer. If you know of a thread, let me know.

Using Photoshop and a template I found online, I created this image. It is pixel perfect. The colors are exact RGB colors.

So, first of all, the resolution changes between DVI and VGA due to overscan(?). Maybe the Start Menu distorts the background image? I never fully understood how this works. Why would the picture look any different? How can I make it look the same? However, this is not my top priority.
The big issue, as you can see, are the colors. The color difference between VGA and DVI is laughable! The MacBook Display colors look better than the TVs. The DVI colors are totally washed out.
Am I outputting the wrong signal? Anyone know how to check that? Or.. fix it? I'd appreciate a crash course on any of this.
On the MacBook I played with the System Preferences>Displays>Color>Calibrate settings (I've created 5 different color profiles) to no avail.

This is pretty strange/frustrating. I successfully booted the computer in clamshell mode but it still doesn't fill the screen. However, I rebooted the machine in clamshell and the BOOT SCREEN filled the screen! Then it reverts back to the little screen when the desktop opens up. Ugh!
Windows is my Plan B. Unfortunately, it requires backing up and reformatting.
Plus, why do I have to install Windows on my MacBook in order for this to work? Totally unacceptable. Why is this so difficult?! If Apple wants to get into the home theater market this MUST be worked out. I have no interest in buying an Apple TV if I already own a MacBook that SHOULD work fine. Why would I buy an Apple TV if it turns out I have to install WINDOWS on my MacBook for it to work?!

DVI- HDMI discoloration on HDTV (as second monitor)

Hello all.
I have been having some issues when using my Philips CRT 30" 1080i HDTV as a second monitor via a DVI->HDMI cable. There seems to be a discoloration that occurs (my best guess being a "green" discoloration) that occurs in the top left corner of the screen. It is made all the more apparent when you then unplug, and a purple haze is left in the corner of the "blue" video input channel. (i imagine the green discoloration on the blue channel yields purple).
From what I can tell, this problem does not occur on any other video input (say, a Wii on the composite channel, or an XBOX on the component, etc).
I had heard rumblings that it could be, in order of bad to worst: a bad HDMI cable, a bad HDMI input on the television, or the television going bad period.
Wanted to know if any of you have had or heard of similar experiences. Need to decide soon if I'm going to had to just buy a new HDMI cable, or if I need to buy a new television/monitor for a job coming up.

Problems like that are caused by stray magnetism that cause misalignment of the electron beams from landing on the proper phosphor color. The set itself has a demagnetizer, but sometimes the magnetism is too strong for the built-in demagnetizer to overcome. But calling in a TV repair person to do a demagnetization is, I'm afraid, a throw back to bygone days. But that's what your TV needs.

Mini DVI to HDMI Cable problems

So I bought the mini dvi to HDMI adapter off of Amazon so that I could connect my Macbook to my HDTV. I have seen other posts that said that this cable works but when I tried to connect my computer to my TV nothing came up. I tried restarting it and reconnecting all the cables but it still didn't work. The one time time it worked, just a blue background came up but nothing else showed up. Is it something wrong with the cable or is do I have to configure something with my computer?

My TV is a Samsung DLP Model # HL-85887W. I do know that it does allow a computer to be connected to it because I can connect an iBook to it. The iBook doesn't have a mini DVI port and has just a normal DVI one and I use a DVI to VGA adapter to connect it to the TV. Is it possible that the TV is programmed to the iBook and I have to do something with the computer and/or TV? Or is my mini DVI to HDMI adapter faulty?

I've connected an 18 pin plus one slot DVI to HDMI cable to my 32" Vizio HDTV, this cable is connected to my macbook via a Mini-DVI to DVI cable, this one has 24 pins plus one slot on the DVI side. My Vizio display is blue, no signal, it reads. I'm wondering if the reason it's not picking up the display is the lack of pins on the DVI to HDMI or because I dont have any display options aside from screen size and color on my display menu. BTW I hit the detect display button and nothing happened.... I know I just wrote alot here but hopefully someone will read it and come to the rescue. thanks

Oops, I guess all I had to do was restart my macbook. I feel like an idiot.....all is well.

Connecting MacBook to Sony Bravia via DVI-HDMI!

Hi I am having major issues with my Macbook connecting to my Sony Bravia KDL-32V4000 I now have 2 different DVI-HDMI leads as well as the Apple Mini-DVI-DVI and still have absolutely no luck.
The Macbook is picking up the Television absolutely no bother at all but there is just nothing at all coming up on the Television its self it doesn't even recognise that I have the computer in the HDMI slot nothing at all just blank!
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it will save me buying more and more cables if this fails to work will have to go with the DVI-VGA I guess would rather fix this though!

I bought a mini-DVI to HDMI and an HDMI to HDMI cable. Once I went into settings for the display, I found that the TV was acting as a second monitor and that it was off to the right of the macbooks own screen. Thus if i moved the mouse to the right it could control the second monitor. You are able to move the screens so that they have the same data on each or use them as two screen with different info on each. Each screen is clearly visible in Spaces and it works a treat.
It is also possible to use the TV as the only screen. The way to do this is to connect up and close the lid on the mac. Once the light on the front starts blinking you can wake it up by using your mighty mouse or external keyboard. once awake, assuming you have chosen the correct HDMI connection from the TV the TV will act as the only monitor at full resolution.
The problem I have, is that I have not been able to get the sound to work. I have used the earphone socket and connected that to external speakers as I cannot seem to get the analogue signal on the TV on anything but an AV channel (not an HDMI channel). Thus the sound works on one channel and the image on another. My TV is a Sony KDL40w5710 - thus if anyone know the solution to getting the sound running through an HDMI channel on my TV it would be appreciated if you could contribute.
