13" macbook pro intel chip question

I'm considering purchasing the 13" macbook pro. Should I be concened that this model does not have the new intel i chip?

The short answer is no you should not be concerned, however without knowing how you will be using the computer it may or may not be the best configuration for you. If your needs are primarily Internet based (email, web browsing etc..) and basic functions like MS Office (or equivalent) then you will be quite happy with the current 13" models. However if you are a serious gamer or do other processor intensive applications like 3D renderings, CAD/CAM etc then while the 13" models will do these there are better MBP alternatives.
The previous poster's assessment of heat and other manufacturer's quality issues are his opinions. Apple does not disclose why it uses the components it does in a specific model therefore his assumption of heat being the reason the 13" models use the Core 2 Duo CPU is a guess. Like any guess he may or may not be correct however at the end of the day it's a guess none the less. Oh and while we're on the subject speculation of Apple's decisions are against the Terms of Use of this forum. As to the longevity of HP computers I seriously doubt he has done an engineering study on these products therefore I give him little credibility on the accuracy of his statement.
If you really want to find the best product for you go to an Apple Store and use the various models and ask questions. Then you can tell for yourself wether a 13" MBP is the right machine for you or not.

Roger

My computer is a MacBook Pro Intel core duo, and I need to know if I can run the new Lion OS?  The Apple web says must have Intel Core 2 Duo. Please advise. Not knowledgeable enough to know if not having the 2 between Core and Duo is a stopper.  Appreciate any guidance.

The difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo is a show stopper when it comes to running Lion.  The Core Duo is still only a 32 bit chip, but the Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit chip.  You need the 64 bit chip to run Lion.

How do I keep Firefox automatically starts when I boot up (OSX 10.6 .8 -- MacBook Pro Intel). It is not in the Startup Items in System Preferences, and automatic startup is not checked in Firefox Options.

    Hi fullrun-
Once Firefox is open, you should be able to open the Right click context menu on the icon. From there you select 'Options' and then de-select 'Open at Login'. Hope that helps.

  • Difference in quality of iSight on Macbook Pro C2D and Macbook Pro Intel

    Hi there
I currently have a MacBook Pro Intel 2.16mhz 17" laptop and I just bought a new MacBook Pro 2.33 C2D laptop. I have noticed that the picture quality of the built in iSight camera of the standard Dual Core is much better than on my new C2D version. The new C2D version seems to have more 'noise' over the whole picture than my standard Dual Core. Does anyone know why this should be?
    Many thanks in advance

  • Leopard not wanting to install on MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo?

I want to bump up to Leopard on my two main computers (MacBook Pro Intel, and a tower, also Intel)... but as I'm using them 24/7 on projects I dare not have problems with ... I don't want any down time getting Leopard to run seamlessly on those systems.
To this end, I 'borrowed' the Leopard disks from my son, for whom I just got a new iMac ... and was going to try it out on my spare (no critical projects) laptop (MacBook Pro Intel). At the beginning of the install the pop-up tells me it can't 'install Leopard on this computer'.
Could this just be some new security device to inhibit pirating? Related specifically to new iMacs? Or am I going to have problems when I try to install the Leopard I was about to buy to upgrade all my computers?
    All ears,
    B.

FYI, an OS installer doesn't just blindly install all the OS components it contains; among other things it runs "pre-flight" & "post-flight" scripts to make sure the Mac's hardware is compatible with that version of the OS, to assemble some of the pieces (like preference files) on-the-fly prior to installing them, & to initialize & clean up some of the items placed on the drive during the installation process.
If it helps, think of it as little mechanized factory that builds customized, turnkey products based on the measurements & specifications it obtains from the buyer.
The retail version of the OS contains the generalized version of this factory; the OEM disk sets do not, since they are intended for one model only.
So, if you want to "test drive" the OS, do it on your son's Mac. You won't be violating the license terms & your test will be much more indicative of what you will see with the OS properly installed on your Macs.

  • MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4) Failure To Open

I cannot turn on My MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4) When I took it to a technician he said he needs Bios for my MacBook Pro. Where can i get it? Please help

First suggestion is to never go back to that Technician, he knows nothing about Apple computers.
Mac computers do not use a BIOS, they use a Firmware, EFI, and there is no way to get into it.
You can get a Firmware reinstall disc, CD, from Apple for your system but I seriously doubt that is why your system is  not booting.
From the type of Intel CPU installed in your system it is more then likely a late 2007 or early 2008 model that is more then likely one of these described in this article.

  • I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty?

I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty? I want to know if the 3 year extended warranty covers what damage. Like water damage, accidental damage, lost or stolen macbook, manufactory defects, or any other kind of damage, maybe be even cosmetic damage. Can anyone help me?

If you are talking about features of the MBP itself, as long as you are not looking at  the Retina models, then the memory you can upgrade yourself for a lot less than Apple charges, and that does not affect the warranty as Apple considers memory a user permitted upgrade.  Great sources are Crucial and OWC, both are Mac specialists and have on-line videos on how to do the install.
If the 15" is what you are looking at, a good upgrade is the 7200 rpm hard drive, gives a little better performance over the standard 5400 rpm drive.
The Hi Res screen is good if you do a lot of graphics work.
Comparing the 13" amd 15" you will notice the 15" has a second, discrete graphic processor...helps when you get into heavy duty videos, games, graphics...but keep in mind that kicking in the second processor uses a lot of power and will run the battery down faster.
If you are looking at the Retina models, then keep in mind there are no post-purchase upgrade options...you have to buy with everything you want at the start.
    Just some thoughts.

  • Macbook pro(intel based) all apps hang but mouse still work

My Macbook Pro(intel) running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1 has started hanging after the last OS upgrade.  All apps stop responding but the mouse pointer contines to function, though mouse click doesn't respond as all apps are not responding.

Yes, I have this problem as well. Although it only happens once I have resumed the computer from standby/sleep mode.
I haven't contacted Apple yet as it has only happened again recently and I put the first time down to a once off. I really hope this is not a hardware issue as I am already suffering from airport related kernel panics.
Anyway, from browsing the internet somebody mentioned that disabling "accidental input" in System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse may solve the problem. I have done that and it hasn't happened again yet. Although, this is not an ideal solution.
Please let me know if you hear of any developments. I was hoping that switching to Mac might get rid of all my computer troubles (previously XP) but all I've had is problem after problem .

Provide the computer's firmware password. If you don't know what it is, contact the person you got the computer from or Apple.

  • Wireless N upgrade for Macbook pro Intel Core Duo (Purchased 8/2006)???

Firstly, I am a little angered that apple has not come out with any directly supported options to allow people with my macbook pro to upgrade to the new wireless N capability.
Therefore I have found a 3rd party option that is being offered by fastmac (http://fastmac.com/ncard.php) that will allow for wireless N wifi.
My only concern is if having this installed (professionally by them or by an authorized reseller, say compusa) would cause my entire applecare warranty to be voided or just the part that covers the wireless card. I could deal with having the wireless card voided as it would be under warranty by fast mac...
Macbook pro intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Your warranty is not voided by installing the Airport card. However, any damage that may be caused by the installation of the card would not be covered under the warranty.
Secondly, the Airport Extreme card that supports 802.11n is available as an upgrade kit for Mac Pros. Some Apple dealers may be able to obtain and install the card for you in your computer.
