13010

itunes will not open on my Mac. I get the following message "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured. (13010). Has anyone seen this before?

courtesy of Jim VanLeeuwen:
Try removing the Genius database.
In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again.
This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

No! Not the iTunes Library.itl file!! That is what makes your library.  Delete that and when you open iTunes you will get a blank, brand new library which will certainly take care of the issue because you will be starting from scratch (the media files will still be on the computer).  By "re-scan your media" this will mean adding it all again to the library, rebuilding your playlists, starting off with playcounts zero and no ratings.
Caddyfan, I see you have systematically posted in quite a number of topics about this issue.  I hope you post a correction about this in each one, or if you did indeed mean delete the entire library file at least make it clear this will be a consequence of your suggestion.  It is also usually unecessary to post in topics which haven't seen a post in about a year.

  • My itunes will not open its showing error 13010

I'm trying to launch my itunes but every time I click to open the application I keep receiving
an Error notice numbered 13010 saying unable to open? Any ideas on how i can fix this without risking
    losing the music??

Hold the option key while starting iTunes and create a new library. Does it start now? If so, it's something to do with your library file. Is there anything we should know about your computer such as you keeping your library on a NAS?

I too am having the same problem. I have followed the above advice - I followed this advice http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421 to no avail. For what it's worth, It appears to be isolated to my user account. I also tried uninstalling and deleting all apple software including the itunes folder in my music folder plus deleting the registry keys before reinstalling. I also tried to move th Genius files onto my desktop as per the above suggestions. Any advice?

  • Mac iTunes won't open; error 13010

Running the newly updated iTunes on my Mac; the one with Genius support (not sure if I actually like that feature or not); anyway, I was in the midst of synching with my iPod shuffle when my Mac indicated that I needed to hold down the "Power" key, which I did. Upon restarting, however, the Mac seems to be running okay but now my iTunes application refuses to load and I get the following error message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13010).
Any thoughts on a fix? Thanks in advance.

  • My iPod error 13010.

My iPod Classic is having issues syncing.  It is giving me error # 13010.  Has anyone had this experience or now how to fix it?

Mine did the same, but when it reset to factory settings it came up with another error message and told me that it couldn't be done. Result: I have an iPod Classic that is well and truly stuck, not recognized by my Mac, not recognized by iTunes, can't be turned off and is stuck on a screen "OK to disconnect".

My genius results cannot be delivered. Unknown error 13010. Therefore itunes match doesn't work neither. I already tried deleting the genius itdb file. Didnt work. My music is on an external drive.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello nebimotu,
This error indicates an interruption in communication between the iPad and the computer, specifically the USB connection.
    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Trying to sync my itunes and ipod and get error 13010

I just updated my iTunes and now my iPod won't sync. I get an error message 13010. I have tried everything and still it won't work. Any fixes or ideas?

    Earlier posts reccommendation,
    close iTunes,
move a file called iTunes Library Genius.itdb to desktop
Then restart iTunes, which will create the same file.
    Good Luck!

  • ITunes 8.2.1 crashes or will not load, reprots unknow error [13010]

I recently upgraded to iTunes 8.2.1 and have had several errors and it crashes when ever it try to copy files to my iTouch.
The program installed and ran the first time but on subsequent starts the program would return a message iTunes cannot load, unknown error 13010. Looking through the forums I found several others with the same problem. The solution was to delete the Genius library files. I did that and iTunes loaded. But each time it loads it recreates the this Genius thing and the program will not run after it's finished or crashes while creating the Genius Lib. I started canceling the Genius as soon as iTunes loads and i'm able to keep it up and running.
The next problem is every time I try to copy files to my itouch the program crashes in the middle of the copy. I found that it will run for a while but eventually the program will crash.
Does anyone know if this is related to that @#%@! Genius thing. Can I remove Genius?
My next course of action is to delete 8.2.1 and go back to an earlier version.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?
    Thanks

You can not get rid of Genius, but you can turn it off on the iTunes Store menu.
Another thing you could try is to rebuild your library using this method:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
But ... I am just wondering if one of your content files is causing iTunes to crash.
Check this article on troubleshooting crashes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421
The section headed "Check for content files with issues" is the one you want. If that's not it, it is a good article on general troubleshooting.
