1333 MHz memory

Hello,
I want to ask if 1333 MHz would work with current MacBook firmware and if so, whether they would actually work on 1333 MHz.
Thanks.

It depends on the processor in large measure and also the firmware, a lot of users had upgraded firmware to 5,1 to better support the 6-core W3680/3690, and 1333MHz DDR3.
http://www.macdsales.com/memory is a good place to start search and research even if you don't buy there.
Today, 3 x 8GB would be a good place to start your upgrade on memory.
Also, replace the boot drive with a 250-500GB SSD as well.
Then there are other things you can still do if needed.
4 x 4GB RAM might be enough but lock you in when you want or need more.
The OEM GT120 is also worth looking at how well it suits your needs.
graphic scratch disks and for graphic libraries are another area all in order to optimize system performance and reduce bottlenecks.

I use the imac mainly for editing Video which when doing so it has reached temperatures of near to 60° C which causes the program to become unstable and needs to be cooled down to operate correctly.
An Apple technician (by phone) advised me to download an smcfancontrol.  This allows each individual fan to increase speed and also advises the current temperature at °C.  The smcfancontrol has been downloaded but this has not resolved the problem.  By increasing the speed of the fan more heat is generated and creates additional noise.
I have since taken the iMac to an Apple Store for examination as suggested by APPLECARE when the fans were found to be working correctly.  An Apple Store technician carried out a test, but not whilst working under the pressure of FINAL CUT PRO when the iMac generates a high temperature.
The Temperature Specification  for this model is
    Operating Temperature 20 °c to 35°C
    Storage Temp.47°c
Clearly the temperature my iMac  is operating at is excessive and could cause the computer to break down prematurely.  Has anyone experienced this problem.

When was the last time you cleaned/vacuumed out all of your iMac's vents, slots and ports.
You need to do this with the iMac powered down, disconnected from power and everything disconnected.
Lay your iMac, screen down, on a soft surface, like a heavy towel. Use a small electronics vac, or portable or full size vac with hose and a crevice tool attachment and carefully and slowly vacuum every vent, slot and port on your iMac.
Then reconnect everything up, power up and download and install iStat Pro. Start working, then report the temps of your iMac after this has been done.
When using SMCFan Control, it is important not to run the fans at too high an RPM. This doesn't generate heat on its own, but will suck in more dust, lint and dirt into your iMac, and that will be the cause of additonal increases in heat.
I run my fans in the range of 1400-1600 RPMs. You can go as high as 1800 RPMs but it is important to keep the RPM range below either 1800 or below 2000 RPMs.
I, also, run a very small desktop fan pointed toward the upper back of my iMac to keep temps down even further.

You can update directly to Yosemite (for free) through the App Store (this is 10.10). Make sure your existing applications will run on this OS.
If you wish to stay at 10.8, you can order this through the online Apple Store (it's $20), and they will email you a redemption code to be used on the App Store.

  • Will 1333 MHz RAM work in a 27" 2012 Intel 3.2 iMac?

I've got a 27" 2012 Intel iMac 3.2 Ghz - got 4 Gig of Corsair DDR3 laptop RAM that appears to be compatible but it's 1333 MHz instead of 1600 MHz.  I'm assuming it would work but would drop the overall memory speed to 1333 MHz from 1600MHz.  Or should I put down the bong and get the compatible 1600 MHz RAM from OWC/Crucial?

It will likely work, but how reliably is a question mark. The memory bus would run slower and reduce performance.
Get the spec'd memory for the computer. You might as well spend the money now then have to spend even more later.
Use OWC or Crucial, if you wish. I usually go with DataMem. But it really doesn't make any difference.

Hi I'm thinking of buying Adobe After Effects CC for my MacBook Pro. But I am worried it won't work. Here are my specs 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB Ram, 1333 MHz DDR3,13-inch (1280 x 800) are my displays and I'm up to date with latest software. I need to know if this will work on this Mac and or if there is any other After Effects that will work.

The display would not. However, your model does not have a discrete GPU, and the integrated (Intel 3000) would not meet CS6's requirements (any CS6 software) alone.
    However:
    Standard VRAM:
    384 MB
    Maximum VRAM:
    512 MB*
    Details:
Apple reports that "memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 384 MB". *If upgraded to 8 GB of RAM (or more), 512 MB will be reserved for video function.
In other words, you would need to upgrade your RAM to 8 GB. The VRAM (video ram) of the processor can exceed its specifications if you upgrade your memory to 8 GB. In order to run the software, you would have to upgrade your RAM first:

  • Macbook pro 2010: does a 1333 mHz RAM (mac 2011)work also in a macbook pro 2010 (1033 mHz RAM)?

And an other question: putting 8 giga 1333 mHz instead of 4 giga 1033 will increase too much battery consumption?
    thanks for your answers

Mac's are very picky about RAM, thus it is advised that you only use RAM spec'd for your machine. While the 1333 may or may not work, you won't receive the benefit of the increased speed, as your machine will default to the lower speed. Yes, more memory means more battery usage, heat, etc. More memory will not speed up your computer. The real benefit to more memory is the ability to run more applications at the same time.

  • I have a mid 2009 13" Mac Book Pro. I want to upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4 GB. Can I use 1333 MHZ modules instead of 1067 MHz?

The manual suggests 1067 MHz modules but my dealer stocks only 1333 MHz modules. Can I use two modules of 2GB 1333 MHz in place of the present two modules of 1GB 1067 MHz.

I wonder if perhaps the new ram isn't exactly right for the computer?  When you install a 2gb and one of the 4gb and go to Apple-About This Mac does it show up as 2gb or 6gb?  Just thinking perhaps the computer can't read the 4gb cards at all, so as long as one of your old 2gb cards is there to function it doesn't freeze (seems like an odd concept but I've seen it happen in PC years ago, so not sure if it's even possible with current hardware or Mac but it's a thought).
Also, double-check the sticker on your new Ram to be sure it works with your system (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270) thinking maybe even if you bought the correct package in the store, maybe it contained the wrong product?  You didn't say what screen size you have, but it looks as though they are all the same specs (13, 15, and 17-inch MBP mid-2010):
    - Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
    -30mm (1.18 inch)
    - 2 GB or 4 GB
    - 204-pin
    - PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz type RAM
I did a quick search and found this thread, same issue, so perhaps it may contain some clues as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3797144?start=0&tstart=0  I noticed someone mentioned the brand or source of the purchased ram; I have personally had issues with third party or "other than what the manufacturer recommends" brands of memory over the years.  I bought mine from Amazon.com but made sure it was Crucial brand, which I've always had high success with.

  • Can my Pavilion 3204tx take ddr3 1666 or 2000 or only 1333 mhz?

Hi, I cannot get any answer from hp as to whether my pavilion 3204tx can take ddr3 1666 or 2000 ram. The machine currently has 4 gb of ddr3 1333 mhz ram and the manual says it can take up to 8 gb of ram. i am running 64 bit win 7 premium and some memory vendors have said this laptop can take 2000 mhz and 1666 mhz memory. I am going to upgrade the memory to 8 gb and would like to use the higher clock speed if I can. Does anyone know what memory this machine can take?
    Thanks very Much

Which is the best company and is it necessary to buy it from the Apple store.

Let's clear the air here between fact and fiction.
Brand of RAM has little if anything to do with its quality.
A reliable vendor is more important that brand of RAM.
Installing faster rated RAM than required for your computer doesn't result in a faster computer. The RAM still runs at the speed of the system's memory bus.
Installing slower rated RAM than required for your computer will make the computer run slower.
Using faster rated RAM is a tricky business. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not work. This may be due to other factors related to your computer's memory bus speed and clock speed as well as other characteristics of the RAM such as CAS Latency (CL.)
The reliable thing to do is use RAM that meets the specifications set for your computer. That information is found in either the user manual or the system specs.

I just bought my Core i5 setup yesterday. I'm satisfied with its performance.
The problem is that I can only run my G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3 1600 at 1333 MHz. I checked the Cell Menu. The highest DRAM ratio is 5. Setting it at 5 makes it run at 1333 MHz only
I have read the manual of my MSI P55-GD80. It states that it supports DDR3 1600 MHz
How can I run my DDR3 memory at 1600 MHz? BIOS update?

I lowered my muliplier to 13 (200x13) to acheive 2.6ghz on the processor, but, at this setting now the processor is running 10-15c hotter then at the 133x20 default setting, and yes im using aftermarket cooling.  Why the extra heat at the same clock frequency?
You must set the CPU and VTT Voltage lower.
Example for 2600Mhz(200x13) CPU-Mhz and very low temperatures ->
      In CellMenue:
    - Load Optimized defaults
    - First u must set LoadlineCalibration in Bios to disabled ! ... in the next bios generations it calls Vdroopcontrol(set to LowVdroopcontrol)
    - Turbo disabled
    - Try VTT from 1,2V to 1,351 V- For higher BCLK(200..stock is 133) u need higher VTT-VOLTAGE as stock (lower VTT lower temps for the memory controler) ..use later the lowest possible VTT-VOLTAGE when u make any stability tests
    - BLCK 200 x CPU Multiplier 13 = about CPU 2600Mhz ...RAM u can use now @ 2000Mhz with memory multiplier 5
    - Now set the lowest possible CPU-Voltage in bios for stable usage with your own CPU! Thats the trick.Undervolting the CPU for lower temps an power consumption as stock !
    - Try 1V to 1,024V CPU Voltage in bios for 2,6Ghz(good choice for the newest I5/7 ). Howto->  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=127944.0
Use programs like Linx 0.6.4 to test the stability of your Sys. Howto and download--> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201670
Now u see temps are down (normal usage SYS). Lower CPU-VCore and VTT lower temps. Higher CPU-VCore and VTT higher temps.
    My CPU:
My I5-750 runs with 1,012V CPU-Voltage bios setting @ 2,8Ghz on P55-GD80. Stock the CPU has 1,264V VCore.
Now I have 25-30watts less vs stock(full LOAD SYS)  and very, very low temps - IDLE and LOAD usage .
Be sure that the 4 first GreenPower settings are @ AUTO.
