14" imac 1.83GHz LCD screen suddenly too bright

My computer screen is suddenly too bright with a sort of a white washed look. I've checked the display settings and brightness in System Preferences and played with the greyscale and white on black options in the Universal Access panel, all to no avail.
I hooked up an LCD projector and the projected image is perfectly normal while the computer display is impossible to read. Even the most dim setting is too bright. Help!

Definitly sounds like a physical issue with the phone. I suggest you go to your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

  • Intel 20"iMac screen seems too bright

I just bought a 2Ghz, 2GB Ram, 20" intel iMac. The screen seems to be washed out/too bright even after the brightness is adjusted. Is this a common problem? What is the remedy?

I have the same issue. I do a lot of digital photography and my prints should look close to what I see on the screen. My older eMac and MDD G4 w/ a 20" flat LCD screen gave me excellent results. I was struggling with the color profile on this new iMac (2.4 GHz Intel w/ 20" GLOSSY screen). I got close selecting the Adobe 1998 profile and adjusting the brightness down to about 60%. This helped but I'm not 100% satisfied. I called Apple and one of the tech support engineers suggested I also go into the Universal Access setting and adjust the contrast ever so slightly. Again, this is moving in the right direction and I need to view this setting for a while before I say it's what I'm after. It does help. Also, go to birdphotographers.net and select forum and go all the way to the bottom of the screen, they have a great step wedge to verify you monitor settings, you should see all steps w/o saturation.
    Good luck,
    Rich

  • Imac late 2013 lcd screens compatibility

Hello everybody. I have an imac 21.5 inch late 2013. The exact model is EMC No 2638. It accidentally fell down and the lcd screen is very damaged. I want to replace it. The model of screen is LM215WF3 (SD) (D2).
I want to buy this part but I found this model: LM215WF3 (SD) (D1).
Can anybody tell me if it is going to work with mine?
Another question. What are the models that can work with my mac?

    Hi gajonormal,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you have not already, I recommend calibrating your iMac display:
Adjust your display to show accurate color using Display Calibrator Assistant. The colors on your display can be altered by many factors, such as ambient light, the position and angle of the display, and the age of the display. Calibrate your display regularly to ensure accurate color.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Color.
Click Calibrate. Display Calibrator Assistant walks you through calibrating your display and then creates a calibrated color profile. For a more detailed calibration of your display, select the Expert Mode checkbox, which is at the bottom of the introductory text.
Some displays have additional built-in color accuracy and calibration features. For more information, see the documentation that came with your display.

  • Control Panel LCD Screen is too dark.

Is there a way to brighten the LCD screen on the control panel? Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @LeftyMike ,
I see that you would like to be able to lighten the LCD screen on the printer. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
I have checked through the menu structure and wasn't able to find anything for the brightness for the display.
Try tilting the control panel up for viewing, to see if the light shows up.
Touch a button on the display, just to make sure the printer isn't gone into sleep mode.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue persists, then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Screen Contrast Too Bright - Changed Itself

My mother-in-laws AIO computer monitor is too bright. The contrast changed automatically. No updates were done. I ran diagnostics, changed monitor settings, reset defaults. Nothing is changing the end result. Is the monitor just dying? It's an all-in-one. It is less than three years old and not used very hard. What else can I try to troubleshoot? I was going to hook up a second monitor, but b/c it is a AIO I don't believe it has a cable to plug in a 2nd monitor.

This is weird. All I did was squeeze the case near just at the top of the LCD display and the lit screen SUDDENLY had the written display again. As I said the ipod worked but I did not have a written display. With that little trick the ipod returned to normal. About a week later , the ipod had a relapse and squeezing the case dont remembe whether it was the left or right side, brought it back to life and it has behaved itself for the past 3 months. I hope this information is useful to others with the same problem who do exist.

  • The color of screen seems too bright

I've just upgrage my system. The fonts of tty became very small and very bright after that. I just startx as usual but find the color of screen is so bright that I cannot see the fonts clearly and and kwin effect disappear.
I've reinstall my video card driver and remove xorg.conf but it didn't help. any ideas? thx~

Does the problem disappear when you disable KMS?
The font in the TTY is probably small, because of the higher resolution that is possible with KMS. You can change the font size and the colors for the text in the TTYs, though. I can send you more info on that in some hours if you want.
    Thanks !

I do not have a DVi cable so I cannot try DVI connection.
It seems a known bug.It has been reported and discussed a lot here:

  • Satellite P300-P19: screen is too bright

    Hi all
I have a P300-P19, the screen is so bright, its set at LEVEL 17.
I have to use FN + F6 to drop it to LEVEL 1 constantly.
Does anyone know how to set it so it stays at the LEVEL you want ?
And is there any other options for contract etc etc
Its even to bright at LEVEL 1 but i do hate bright lights... :-)
    Thanks in advance..
    Rob

LOL :D if you hate true bright screens so why you buy devices which support such True Bright screen technology?
I love such screens I like it in the LCD TV, external PC LCD and in notebooks...
However, if you want to use constantly low screen brightness then I recommend changing the screen brightness option in the Vista Power settings.
    Check the forums HowTo area.
There you can find nice document called How to handle the power managment features of Windows Vista?

  • Satellite A660-18N - Screen it too bright so how to update the BIOS?

Hi guys, I need your help with this laptop because it is giving me a lot of problems.
I have changed the screen of this Satellite A660-18N because the one that was fitted in was damaged. I have installed it and is working fine but I'm having problems with the brightness. When I click - on the brightness it goes up and when I click + it goes down. It's way too bright and want to do something to fix it.
Does the bios help to fix this problem and how do I flash the BIOS on these laptops? I did flash BIOS on desktop pc but on this I can't see any way of doing it. Is there any way of fixing the screen without changing the BIOS? Some people said that I have to flash the BIOS because new screens wont work 100% with old BIOS.
    Please help
    Thank you

Thank you very much Xardas for your reply.
It is 3rd party screen. I bought it from ebay. They said that it's original. It says made from Samsung. The original one was also made from samsung. The guys from Toshiba said that you might have to update bios so that it will accept other screens. I told them which one I bought and they did confirm that it should work fine.
I wanted to flash the bios with the latest bios and maybe it could work fine. I just don't know how to do it? I did create a bootable usb and placed the bios in it but don't know the command to flash it. I did go in bios but did not find anything that would be helpful to flash.
I also was thinking to use some kind of software that makes it little bit darker. It's way too bright. My eyes hurt to use it. I always have to use sunglasses.
If you know anything it really would be helpful.
    Thank you

  • Suggestion to iPad developer: the screen is too bright for an E-reader

    Hi,
I have been using kindle DX for reading e-book and newspapers for a year. I bought the iPad and have been using for a week. iPad has many advantages over Kindle in many ways(very fast, zoom-in zoom out, great apps for editing PDF, and many more) however, it lacks the appreciation of the display for reading. *_The brightness is quite too high(even when you try to lower the brightness setting to lowest). When I read WSJ or PDF for a while, my eyes go very very tired. It is fine in the apps like Kindle or iBook or GoodReader where you can adjust the brightness even more._* So you could read with the same light intensity like the kindle or other e-reader. However, it is still very bright in safari or WSJ apps where you cannot adjust even further. You cannot use iPad to read something in the dim light environment with this lowest brightness adjustment.
I made an appointment to the Apple store to discuss about this issue. I also compare the brightness adjustment to MacBook and other device. You can eventually dim the screen even more and more for other device except the iPad. You could also dim the brightness even more for an iPhone. The technical support told me to send a suggestion to the iPad developer so that they can do the adjustment for the next OS Update.
*My advice is to increase the range on the dimmer side of the brightness. You could also add the option to adjust for the contrast. In this case, you will have low light coming out of the device and the character is still crisp by lowering the brightness and increase the contrast of the display. The eye strain problem will be significantly reduced.*
Many of my e-reader colleagues also complain about this issues. So I hope you take this into serious consideration. Please Adjust the brightness range and everything else should be perfect. You could even think about the display like Mirasol display for the next generation of iPad as an option for display rather than only IPS LCD. This will help the e-reader oriented like me to stick with iPad forever
I strongly hope there will be some of these changes in the new OS update. Since you guys want the iPad to be one of the option of an e-reader, then the display and the brightness is very very very important.

I adjusted everything including turning the auto brightness off( like I did for my iPhone ). And you could see that the lowest brightness of the iPhone is dimmer than the lowest level for the iPad. I have no problem reading on the iPhone without that level of brightness either. This is the only reason that I don't like about iPad and the small adjustment should satisfy all my need. I don't see any reasons for returning it.
Moreover, the eyes sensitivity to the light level or brightness for each people is different. It's correct that you and some of my friends do not have difficulty reading with this level of brightness. But some of my friends and I are having this problem in safari and the apps that do not have further brightness adjustment.
The best way for me to avoid this problem now it to alight the iPad 75-90 degree to vertical so that the light does not come directly to my eyes when I use the apps that does not contain brightness adjustment. This way reduces the light traveling to the eyes from iPad. The brightness goes down a bit more. That is why I said just reduce the lowest level to a bit more then everything is great.
I also try the inpicio anti glare to reduce the light from reflection but this does not help either because it produces bad image output and does not filter any light out.

  • Screen too bright at night

I've just bought a 24" iMac and find the screen far too bright in the evening and at night when I often work. I have the contrast and brightness down to the lowest settings in System Preferences, but the screen remains so dazzling that it hurts the eyes. On my MacBook Pro I can slide the brightness down to black if I want, so why not the iMac - or have I missed something?
All thoughts about solving this problem - or suggestions for software to reduce the brightness - greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank Lenn and Dennis for your suggestions, all of which I have now tried. I've taken so long to respond because I wanted to wait 24 hours - and another night - to see if one is better than another. Changing the screen profile made a very small difference, and at first Brightness seemed to do a better job, but the overall winner in terms of flexibility is undoubtedly Shades, which I'm using right now.
    Thanks again, both of you!

  • 23" LCD screen (LG) VGA w/nVidia GeForce2 MX on a G4 Quicksilver

I just bought an LCD screen not too long ago, and it works fine with my old G3 (ATI 3D Rage Pro 6MB) although I have to use a Mac to VGA converter with it. However, on my G4 which has VGA and ADC outputs, when I connect with a VGA cable, the graphics don't look good at all. It's very streaky; for example, if there's a black terminal window, the black from the terminal window streaks across the screen. I think it must be something with the graphics card, although it worked fine with my older CRT displays, so maybe it's just a conflict between my screen and the graphics card (not sure what conflict, though). With my G4 I've tried it with Linux and MacOS X, and with my G3 I tried it with OS 9 and an older version of Linux. It worked fine in both cases on my G3, but in neither case on my G4 could I avoid the streakiness. Please let me know if you need more information. I appreciate your help.

    Hi-
Streakiness could be due to a poor cable or connector.
Having said that, it could be the analog side of the card is bad, or, simply that the Geforce2 won't do well with *widescreen LDC* panels through VGA.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25232
The Geforce2 MX will only do 1920x1200@60Hz from the ADC (digital) port.
Get an ADC to DVI adapter, and the problem is solved.

  • PRINTER DISPLAY SCREEN ALMOST COMPLETELY WHITE (TOO BRIGHT/FADED/?)

I cannot read the images on my printer’s display (Product HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-all-in-one printer - N911a). The images are there, but barely discernible. I can't put my finger on whether the screen is too bright or too faint, or the images are too light. The display is NOT blank or black (and the HP Troubleshooting solutions to correct those problems have not corrected my problem, ie Hard Power Reset, updated firmware, and adjusted brightness setting), just too bright or too faint. Even with the screen brightness on the darkest setting, I still cannot make out the images. Interestingly enough, at the end of the day yesterday, the screen self-corrected somehow, and was back to a readable display. However, it reverted back to the problem overnight.

    Hi busymom51 & otcheryl,
I understand that your issue is not the same as the title of the troubleshooting guide listed above: The Touchscreen Does Not Respond, however the troubleshooting steps are the recommended steps to attempt the resolution. If you followed the steps and the issue is not resolved, try again to update the firmware.
If your 8600 is the N911a, try this firmware update: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware. The printer will need to be connected to a Windows computer via USB for the firmware update.
If the 8600 is the N911g or N911n, use this update: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g_n Firmware. The printer will need to be connected to a Windows computer via USB for the firmware update.
If the firmware update does not help the dim display, contacting HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you would be the best option.
